New thread - because I'm badly procrastinating with actual work today 😆

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ToCaden · 18/06/2022 10:37

@beckybloomwood11 I've got pram/car seat, a ton of baby clothes, baby baths, a moses basket (planning on co sleeping, but someone gave me one so that's backup), changing mats, reuseable and some disposable nappies, etc.

I need more post birth stuff for me and a few basics such as more disposable nappies, wipes, barrier cream, etc, but think I have most of what I need. There are a couple things I do want, but concentrating on getting baby's room ready before I sort them.

Cakecakecheese · 18/06/2022 11:36

I found an interesting way to hide from the heat, visit the very air conditioned maternal and foetal assessment unit. I'd not been feeling baby much compared to last week. It turns out he is moving, just in an awkward position so I can't feel him. I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and he's still transverse.

I'm going back today as a double check plus they're concerned about my blood pressure. They also found a protein in my urine so I had a blood test.

Unknown6 · 18/06/2022 11:54

@Cakecakecheese, hope all goes OK! Keep us updated.

I have a new symptom, carpal tunnel in my fingers, I thought I was sleeping on them wrong but apparently another delightful symptom! Last night it felt like my fingers would dislocate if I moved them!
With that, leg cramps and the heat I think I have had 3 hours sleep in 2 days 😴

If anyone has any tips to help with the legs or hands please let me know! I'm incredibly grumpy today, my poor hubby!

Beth262 · 18/06/2022 12:33

Hi everyone, catching up on the thread this morning. Sorry to those who have had mum health worries. Not exactly what you need.

Had a growth scan yesterday and consultant apt. Baby is measuring around 3lb 9oz but consultant wasn't much use. Told me she has no idea when he'll arrive and to be vigilant 🤦‍♀️ crazy to think how much she's probably getting paid for advice like that! 😆 He seems comfortable for the time being again though thankfully.

@CoalCraft love Lois. How are you pronouncing it?

Also suffering with leg cramps but only in my left calf... find its worse if I haven't drunk gallons of water during the day.

Magik8ball · 18/06/2022 12:58

Afternoon all
I just wanted to ask because I'm not sure
Are 32 week growth scans only for high risk pregnancies as I wasn't offered one but my next scan is 36 weeks.

ToCaden · 18/06/2022 14:07

@Magik8ball there're only for some kind of risk. For example my baby is ivf and they automatically refer for growth scans for that.

ToCaden · 18/06/2022 14:20

For leg cramps I had restless leg syndrome pre pregnancy along with cramps and spasms.

Magnesium is my number one. It doesn't always prevent it, but helps stop it getting bad. Milk has helped the cramps at various points in my life (not sure if it's helping now but did help a lot as a teen when cramps started. And am drinking a lot of it now due to craving). Vitamins help. I take a good multivitamin (pregnacare right now) plus extra magnesium for the restless legs.

Having a weighted blanket / heavy pressure over my legs at night. Some people find a warm bath before bed helps, but haven't had much success with that.

When you wake in the night and you get that cramping feeling in your calf like it might lock up, very qùickly place foot flat on a surface and press weight on it. Don't give into impulse to tighten calf muscles as this can make the muscle seize up (agony).

And if you're awake due to restless legs and nothing is working, take some paracetamol. Usually stops the restless legs long enough to sleep.

Gem2811 · 18/06/2022 14:29

@Unknown6 for hands place your hand flar against the wall and stand arms length away from the wall after about 30 seconds rotate your hand 180 and repeat

CoalCraft · 18/06/2022 14:35

@Magik8ball As ToCaden says, they're only offered in pregnancies deemed higher risk - in my case because of previous premature birth. It just seems that quite a lot of us in this group are getting them for one reason another.

@Beth262 Two syllables; lo-iss ☺️ Hoping your little chap continues to stay where he belongs!

Unknown6 · 18/06/2022 14:36

@Gem2811 thank you so much! I was literally in agony last night! I will try this today!

@Magik8ball, my growth scans at 36 weeks too, some trusts apparently don't do them at all (my friend in Berkshire only had 12 and 24 weeks)

Cakecakecheese · 18/06/2022 16:20

My tests came back fine so I don't have pre eclampsia so that's good. My blood pressure was ok today and baby's heartbeat and movements are good.

Got a growth scan on Wednesday.

My sister is throwing me a baby shower tomorrow. I know not everyone is a fan of them but it was nice of her to want to do one plus I think I deserve cake 😋

ToCaden · 18/06/2022 16:43

@Cakecakecheese yay for good news.

Also your username very much implies you deserve cake.

PopGoesBang · 18/06/2022 17:05

@Magik8ball my growth scans are due to gestational diabetes, and also because my bmi was higher to start with they didn't want to rely on the belly measurements to check growth is ok. In my first pregnancy I just had the 12 and 20 week scan there wasn't any need for additional ones.

@Beth262 Sound advice there. Because clearly you aren't on high alert and analysing everything. 🙄 but glad your little one seems content currently and I hope that stays the way until later down the line.

@ToCaden Good advice on the cramps. I'll try introducing milk in with my before bed snack. I quite enjoy a glass of milk just have pair it as with everything now for the GD. And make sure the car isn't around or the pressure to drink it before she tries too is unreal!

@Cakecakecheese enjoy the baby shower tomorrow, absolutely lovely to have the attention on you and even more so now everything's come back ok.
I'm 33 weeks tomorrow and baby is transverse too. Has been most the pregnancy. They said they will either try and ECV, or possibly wait until induction and the. Turn and break waters so there's more chance baby stays put or just straight to c section depending on how everything is. But time for baby to turn on own before I have to really think about that.

This weekends task is to sort my hospital bag... I've been saying that for a while, my motivation should be that Dp would be awful at packing anything I might need if I'm not able to over see it. Must do it...

Cakecakecheese · 18/06/2022 17:26

@PopGoesBang I'm 32 weeks tomorrow with transverse baby so have been wondering when they'll start to think about trying to turn him or book a section so that's interesting. Hopefully they'll turn themselves before it gets that far!

I've packed my hospital bag with my stuff just need to get baby's things together.

ToCaden · 18/06/2022 17:56

My baby is breech. His head is smushed up into my ribcage which is suprisingly uncomfortable and making it difficult to breathe. Currently panting through a dizzy spell because I dared to exert myself while he was wiggled right up there. Just glad it's lovely and rainy right now and not boiling like yesterday.

Midwife said they'd start to think about whether they need to manually turn him, etc, around 36 weeks if he is still breech then. (Assuming of course placenta has moved up by then and I don't need a c section due to that).

Unknown6 · 18/06/2022 19:19

Your baby doesn't apparently get into position until 36 weeks unless they are coming early x this is what my midwife told me. In the last 2 weeks mine has been in lots of positions and I'm 33 weeks.

Unknown6 · 18/06/2022 19:21

Anyone know what sized nappies you get for a newborn? Should I also take in formula in my babies hospital bag?

Cakecakecheese · 18/06/2022 22:30

Thanks @ToCaden and @Unknown6 he's got a few weeks to move then that's good to know.

So far I've got newborn sized nappies that were free in an Emma's Diary pack. As for formula I think that is provided if you're giving birth in a hospital? But I would check with your midwife.

Gem2811 · 19/06/2022 09:11

@Unknown6 I have size 1 new born pampers I believe they are for something like 6-11 pounds should tell you on them though 😊 double check with your midwife about formula I think every district is different I know for mine we do but only certain brands

Isonthecase · 19/06/2022 23:06

@Cakecakecheese Mine don't do formula but you can get little pre mixed bottles in the bigger supermarkets that come with a screw on drinking bit so I'm getting a pack of those.

I bought a small pack of the little nappies because worst case you send someone out for more or prime them.

CoalCraft · 20/06/2022 13:35

Had another regular tightenings scare in the early hours of yesterday morning and found myself on triage again, though they'd mostly settled down by the time I arrived. Cervix still tightly closed and fibronectin test negative, so all looking good.

Feeling a bit glum today though all the same, missing all the things I can't do (and eat) because of pregnancy. I know it'll be worth it but damn I'd love just one day of being able to lie on my back, pig out on pizza and run around freely without having to worry about hurting baby, getting constipated or pulling a muscle 😕

Two more months.

Beth262 · 20/06/2022 15:00

@CoalCraft Glad to hear she appears to be firmly staying put for the moment but still a scary time given what you went through with your daughter.

I'm with you on the glum times. Saturday I just cried several times through frustration and tiredness. DP thinks I'm losing the plot 😬 I just want one night of not having get up 6 times for a wee or turning over and yelping in pain!

OP posts:
PopGoesBang · 20/06/2022 15:06

@CoalCraft glad baby's staying put.

Some of these babies are sure putting us thru our paces before they are even here in person to do it! August 2022 babies are gonna be a force to be reckoned with 🙈

I've literally just said to DP I'm on a very narrow edge and it seems to be rapidly shrinking. I predict an evening of tears and sulking from me.
We've all got this, and we know it is worth it, and it's ok to feel the feels we are feeling etc. but man, it's bloody hard some days!

madeleine85 · 20/06/2022 15:58

@CoalCraft and @Beth262 very glad to hear both your babies are still in there, even if they are driving you a little insane. I'm also struggling with the 8-9 more weeks of no dairy, all I wanted this weekend was a bloody ice cream! Not an oat milk whatever, I wanted a scoop of ice cream from the local shop with my DD. I feel like last pregnancy I was much more lax about alcohol too (to each their own is my mentality), but i'd have an occasional half glass of wine in the third trimester, which this time I have been a straight teetotaler for the duration due to dehydrating effects and contractions. Oh and now even fizzy drinks too close to bedtime keep me up all night, and getting up at least 2-3 times to pee is just normal. Sorry this is now rapidly turning into a food and drink rant! It is just so frustrating now that we are so very close. Anyway, you all have my sympathies on this one. We are so nearly there. I saw a friends fathers day post yesterday saying their newborn has been in the NICU for the last 10 days, and that gave me a good wake up call of what I will literally do anything I can to avoid. I'm currently distracting myself by reading all the trashy beach reads that I can get my hands on. I just discovered that my local library does it all online now and downloads to my kindle, and my mind is blown. So thats where i'll be for the next few weeks :).

CoalCraft · 20/06/2022 16:07

I think it must be a pretty tough time for many, this sort of 30-34 week period. It's all well and truly sunk in so you're not still on that "oh my god!" stage of early pregnancy, you're really starting to feel it physically, you've been abstaining from various things for so long, and yet it still feels like there's quite a way to go!

I'm hoping that as I go along things will start to feel more imminent and the frantic excitement/nerves will keep me from feeling too sorry for myself. At least I'll be able to say "final stretch!".

Much love to all. Just think how amazing that first ice cream / glass of wine / comfy sleep is going to be! Xx
