@Celyn22 apparently it's if there's a heatwave women who are 37 weeks+ are more likely to go in to labour. Probably bollocks but something to cling to when we're sweaty messes in 4 months begging them to come 😂

madeleine85 · 22/04/2022 15:14

@Isonthecase dehydration during a heatwave (while exercising outdoors) played a big part in kickstarting my early labour last time. Recommend excessive hydration 😂.

Beth262 · 22/04/2022 15:22

Afternoon everyone

Appointment went OK this morning. Apparently, it's likely I had an incompetent cervix with DS and that was why he was so prem 😬 Ive been on progesterone pessaries since week 6 this time round and having ended the course last week, I had spotting last night and this morning- so my appointment couldnt have been timed better! Im back on them until 37 weeks (if i get thay far) and the consultant wants to see me again in 4 weeks so that if I have any more spotting or tightenings between now and then they will get me on steroids in case this one makes an early appearance too. So seems like they are keeping a close eye which is good.

@madeleine85 @Isonthecase thank you for sharing that... it makes sense! I will stay hydrated then and wow 4 months doesn't sound very long does it!?

Time is passing so fast. It feels like I'm growing every day, but particularly this morning it was like I had a growth spurt overnight! It was my partner putting his hand on my belly when we woke up this morning who noticed it first. I was shocked looking at my reflection. Perhaps it's gas or bloat but I wouldn't expect that first thing in the morning!

@Beth262 aw I'm glad you are being taken care of! I hope it all goes smoothly for you this time around StarFlowers

madeleine85 · 22/04/2022 15:56

@Beth262 im so glad they’re taking great care of you and are monitoring well! Fingers crossed this one stays in until you’re ready for an appearance x

squatternutbosh12 · 22/04/2022 16:16

@Beth262 glad to hear the appointment went ok, and good that you got some answers and extra check ups booked in!

OGTT this morning was fine, the drink wasn’t as bad as I was expecting- vaguely lime flavoured! I managed not to be sick the whole two hours until the second blood test was taken, then went to the loos and promptly threw up what was left of it in my stomach 😂 which seemed like quite a bit so I hope enough of it actually went into my system before the bloods were taken ?! Oh well not much I could’ve done about it if not!😐
results Monday apparently!

Isonthecase · 22/04/2022 19:41

@madeleine85 top tip that, I'll add it to the list of pineapple, Clary sage, weird walking, that bath bomb from lush, curry, sex, and trampolining 😂 none of them worked last time anyway and I am NOT willing to have a September baby in a heatwave 🙈

Glad it went well @Beth262, reassuring they're so on it. Just out of curiosity, what's the issue with spotting? I've had it before and not had an issue yet.

madeleine85 · 22/04/2022 20:45

@Isonthecase honestly if the little one isn't ready, nothing works. Stubborn little things :). In saying that, 2 weeks before my due date I will give anything a go!

Beth262 · 23/04/2022 07:47

@Isonthecase I know for the majority, spotting is normal and isn't an anything to be concerned about. But particularly for me, it's been a precursor to miscarriages and DS' prem birth and so the consultant said that it seems to be my 'trigger' that indicates my body is failing to sustain the pregnancy. Hope I haven't got you worried x

Morning 😊, lovely to hear all the updates and glad to see everyone is having the monitoring that they need!

Anyone considering trying cloth nappies? I'm going to order cheeky wipes and now thinking of some cloth nappies too. X

Shelly1812 · 23/04/2022 08:57

Ps finally able to post again, I've not been able to for a few days, had to download the app again! X

PopGoesBang · 23/04/2022 10:44

@Shelly1812 I constantly look at cloth nappies. I'm very tempted but not sure I can convince dp, I might get a few and try them and do a mix. I know mil has already brought a supply of disposable nappies. So a mix might be the way to start and see how we do.

I've just been looking at baby carriers. I had a wrap one with DD and remember it being a bit of a faff with the extra material. And I had a rose and rubellion when she was a bit older. Just been looking at the close caboo and wondering about that. We'll 100% need one for dog walks and I loved wearing last time. Anyone got good recommendations that are perhaps more up to date?

Same here, I was thinking of a combinations just now, more to see
How I go with the washing and drying of nappies 😂😂! Not always the quickest turn around!

Close caboot seems to be the 1 recommend for newborn baby carrying (I joined a group on FB).

I'm going to the baby & toddler event in Glasgow tomorrow so will be looking at nappies and baby wearing if there are any stands x

PopGoesBang · 23/04/2022 11:08

@Shelly1812 yeah that is a good point! I can be very good, or astonishingly bad 🙈
I think a combo is a good no pressure way of trying cloth nappies.
Look
Forward to hearing what gems you find out about tomorrow!

I was delighted at getting a load washed, dried and ironed on the same day... don't think it's ever happened before 😂😂.

I shall keep you up to date on what I find and how much has changed since my
1st 7yrs ago 😂 x

Celyn22 · 23/04/2022 11:45

@Shelly1812 @PopGoesBang I intend on using only cloth nappies (but will keep a handful of disposable ones stashed away!) where we live is remote and we don't have landfill collection which means we have to bag it up and do a tip run once a month or two. I'm imagining at least 10 nappies per day... roughly 300+ per month sitting around till we can get them buried in the ground doesn't feel good! Biodegradable ones are too expensive for me too and my second-hand experience with those is that they take well over 3 years to break down. I've found them when emptying compost toilets completely in tact, well after the poo had become soil. My partner isn't fully aware yet but I've volunteered him to be responsible for washing ;)

I've been so busy with work on the land here - combined with baby brain so my mum has taken it upon herself to do a load of research on our behalf! I am so so grateful. She thought that the waterproof outer part of the nappies with folded muslins seemed the best option for a newborn... that being said she's bought us a few different ones to try out. I can imagine all-in-ones being more handy if you're out and about.

Apparently it's 'reusable nappy awareness week' so there are quite a few deals on!

PopGoesBang · 23/04/2022 12:22

@Shelly1812 we're very similar, by time this baby is here it will be 9 years ago I had dd - you'd think that would make me feel more prepared, somehow I think I feel more daunted but it!

@Celyn22 reusable sound like they will be your friend.
I know a soak bucket with nappy san in pre-washing is handy. Helps get any stains out and of course to start with we'll hopefully be able to make use of the sun.

There's a nappy and sling library local to me, I'm going to see if I can get along there and pick up some tips as well I think.

Isonthecase · 23/04/2022 15:14

Thanks @Beth262 and sorry to hear you've been through the things to know that! It's such a worrying time even with no previous issues, I can't even imagine what it's like.

@Shelly1812 have you seen they have a sale on? Think it's 25% off, well worth it if you're buying anyway. That said, they're basically flannel squares so you could just buy a few flannels cheaply to try out. For those with older kids they also do washable sheet covers for night time accidents, means you don't usually need to wash all the sheets.

Anyone planning reusable nappies I'd highly recommend getting a bundle on eBay or marketplace. Loads of people buy them and don't get on with all of them so you can usually pick up ones that are just pre washed or worn once and they are a lot cheaper. We didn't start using them until 6 weeks or so as you need a smaller wrap and they're way more prone to leaks but after that the tots bots bamboozle with a mothersease wrap worked well overnight and the tots bots all in ones are good for the day time and nursery as they're thinner and quicker to dry and to put back together once washed. Don't forget the fleece liner but the paper ones never worked for us. We never soaked them as they don't really need it if they're only waiting max 48 hours to wash, especially if you get a zipped wash bag for them. I really liked the frugi tots bots ones, cheeky wipes ones, and some I bought from a random Australian on Etsy with popper hanger things so you can drape them over a door handle to fill (with the velcro tabs folded over!!) then just unpop, unzip, and bung in the washing machine. Pop it in the sun for a bit to remove any yellow stains. Follow the washing instructions or the velcro is shot in weeks. If you're struggling, the nappy lady website is fantastic for advice and does trial packs with a mix.

You've actually all reminded me I need to start using them again! I stopped over winter as we don't have the drying space but definitely prefer them in summer over stinky nappies in the black bin 🤮 reckon we've saved about 2000 nappies from landfill just by using on average 1 a day for two kids.

Mufflette · 23/04/2022 16:16

Thanks for the 25% off Cheeky Wipes tip @Isonthecase have just ordered! At the moment I'm thinking disposable nappies to start with while we're getting used to the whole new baby thing, and then trying cloth ones after the first month or so.

Isonthecase · 23/04/2022 20:35

No problem @Mufflette , hope you like them 🙂 ours are still used on my older kids for faces!

Isonthecase · 23/04/2022 20:36

I feel I should clarify we had face ones and bum ones which are different colours...

Yeah cheeky wipes had the full bundle on £40, I've messaged them as it originally said the full of April then changed it to 21st midnight ☹️. Thanks for the nappy chat!

Shelly1812 · 23/04/2022 20:48

Hi send too quickly lol!!

The reusable nappy area is a minefield 😂😂 x

Isonthecase · 23/04/2022 21:19

@Shelly1812 to be fair so if the disposable one, it's just a bit cheaper to get wrong 😂 the leaks, the allergies, the toddler proofing...
