I think you do have to just say nope!!! @IzzyLeigh ! People just instantly think they own you and it's so annoying.

ShiningStarz · 12/04/2022 20:41

@Carebear99 I have cramps in the morning so literally have to shake my legs for a bit before I sit up and now I wait a couple minutes before standing up! I had this with the last pregnancy too but seems much earlier this time round!!

@annlee3817 love your scan pic! I remember the 20 week scan in my last pregnancy being so detailed! Don't know how I didn't guess the sex! I'm nervous and excited. Like you I'm 40, the other screening tests were low risk and iv had 3 scans now and all is fine so I should be feeling relaxed!!

Thanks for posting the my fitness pal stats. Didn't start today!! Will tomo lol Iv been started on iron tabs so need to up the vit c to help the absorption.

@stimpyyouidiot wow! My mum was mad I didn't tell her when I missed my period lol! I waited until after 1st scan at 12 weeks! She's fine though now. I just get told not to touch that, not to lift that, don't reach up for that lol lol driving me nuts !!

Celyn22 · 12/04/2022 20:56

@IzzyLeigh it’s pronounced [kell-in] ...a bit like the welsh version of the Irish name Kellan. I imagine he will have a few issues with pronunciation growing up! But hey, it’ll teach him patience ;)

Another early night for me now... sleep well everyone! I’m really grateful for this thread and for you all and your honest sharings! Sending lots of love and back rubs to you all xx

ShiningStarz · 12/04/2022 21:03

Has everyone stopped taking folic acid now we are past 12 weeks?

madeleine85 · 12/04/2022 21:19

@ShiningStarz I just take an all in one prenatal vitamin which has folic acid in it. I was told to take it before getting pregnant, throughout pregnancy, and even when breastfeeding to keep various things at the right levels. I didn't know there was a 12 week cutoff to stop taking?

ShiningStarz · 12/04/2022 21:26

@madeleine85 I think I stopped last time after the 12 week scan. I'll keep taking it as well as multivitamin and now iron tan until the next appt and double check with the midwife.

IzzyLeigh · 12/04/2022 21:27

@Celyn222 it’s lovely! Is it just because I’m American that it seems uncommon to me or is it uncommon over there as well?

@ShiningStarz I honestly didn’t know folic acid was only really needed in the first 12! I just assumed it was an entire pregnancy thing. I’ll probably keep taking it just because it’s in with the rest of my daily vitamins, but it’s nice to know that it won’t feel like the end of the world if I forget to take it for a day now or something

Anyone notice that having a kid 35 onwards is a nightmare for names because all your favourites through tne years have been used by someone you know of? 🙈 Had one go last week actually to a new arrival 😂

@celyn22 my main boys name so far is similar to yours! ☺️

HaresHoping · 13/04/2022 06:47

@Belle2210 yep! My issue also is that DH has lots of friends and we end up quickly realising we know someone with every name we end up thinking of 😂 so it would seem like we're naming the baby after them haha!

annlee3817 · 13/04/2022 07:26

I haven't taken folic acid since 14 weeks, I don't take any pregnancy vitamins either, they didn't agree with me last time, and I kept forgetting to take them, so haven't bothered this time, just trying to eat a balanced diet (apart from the chocolate!)

Carebear99 · 13/04/2022 08:34

I take pregnacare and ill be taking it for the whole pregnancy

SoOverThisCrap · 13/04/2022 08:42

Morning ladies, how are we all today?
I'm 17 weeks tomorrow, and my 20 week scan on 6th May feels like aaaages away, and I feel like such a twat for cancelling my private scan last Sunday 🤦‍♀️

I'm taking Pregnacare Max and a separate dose of folic acid, but that's because I take meds for epilepsy and I also took it and Pregnacare to full term with DD 😊

I fully came off Cyclogest as of Sunday night, felt a bit anxious Monday and yesterday but I've still been feeling flutters so I guess all is ok.

I hope everyone has a lovely day x

Celyn22 · 13/04/2022 09:25

Good morning everyone! I had some funny dreams, and one of the highlights was picking my itchy nipples till they were (literally) white with a few pink specks! It was a funny sight. Also lovely in a different part of the dream breastfeeding baby Celyn! I am getting so

I take a cocktail of supplements everyday anyway and I didn’t realise till the midwife told me that I didn’t need to be taking folic acid after 12 weeks, and I’d already bought enough for the whole pregnancy! So I’ll be continuing with taking them along with the vit C, vit D, zinc, calcium, MSM, b12 & shilajit!

It’s a cool brand I hadn’t heard of before, ‘together’ and their multivitamins are made of whole foods which I like. And they’re organic too. It was cheaper through amazon than on their website too!

@IzzyLeigh yes it is quite uncommon. I don’t know anyone with this name but a 16 year old was the one that told me about a famous actor called Kellan, and since then I’ve seen that name around a little. It means ‘holly tree’ in welsh. The jolly tree was quite significant to me before I became pregnant - and is even more so now, although in all honesty now elder trees are capturing my attention and affection more!

@Belle2210 aww I love that! I look forward to hearing the name you’ve chosen when you’re ready! ...another similarity between us are the numbers in your username. That’s my birthday!

amorningperson · 13/04/2022 10:33

@stimpyyouidiot omg that sounds so awful! What on EARTH honestly... So sorry you had to go through that!

I do remember some really crazy stuff people in my family did last time. Just things like, my sister works in agriculture and so I would ask her to remove her work shoes before she came in the house (in case there was some E coli or other infectious bacteria on her shoes - very common!) and she went off on one about how I was rejected her and her profession? We are also vegan and she decided to give us this horrible farming book about sheep being farmed to eat? And then told me I was a fantasist to not want to read this to my baby.
It also really stressed me out and made me feel really obsessive about cleaning and also like a I was being at the unreasonable one.

Anyways for this reason, we are not letting visitors come for the first month or so, to give us breathing time as a family of 4... not sure how that will go down with a toddler but I not sure I can face them all in that vulnerable place again

Carebear99 · 13/04/2022 11:02

Can I ask for some advice. I think I've either his thrush again or a urine infection. I tried calling the gp but I was 17th in the queue and didn't get through. Can the midwife prescribe anything I need and help? Shall I call them?

lunarshatters · 13/04/2022 11:03

Hello! Bit late the game but 18 + 2 weeks now! I work part-time in a university and have another DS who is 3 (and a half he will insist!).
We live in the UK, I'm from the US and half French too so a bit international. I love it here, I moved here as a child then went back and forth to US/France and finally settled here 10 years ago.

I've caught up a little bit with some skimming, amazing to see those 20 week scans, can't wait for mine which is in a couple of weeks. I wish my DS could come in, they are so strict about it here! I guess it makes sense as some kids may be jumping all around the the tech probably has about 10 minutes to ascertain if or not your baby is doing OK. We don't know the gender- can't wait for find out!!!

TotoAnnihiliation · 13/04/2022 11:21

Welcome @lunarshatters

@Carebear99 - keep trying to get in touch with the GP, I'm not sure the midwives can prescribe.

I've been to the midwife this morning. I had ketones in my urine dip, the mild wife said that it's something to keep an eye on. I voiced my concerns about GD but she said not to worry. She did try and bring forward my glucose test but there is no availability at the clinics uk do this.

The midwife also said they don't check for the heartbeat at this stage as a standard. This was a surprise as when I was expecting DD, it was certainly done at 16 weeks. She did try though and found a feint but regular galloping heartbeat, muffled by my anterior placenta.

Carebear99 · 13/04/2022 11:23

@TotoAnnihiliation thanks. Sadly that's it for the gp today, call in the morning and that's it. I'll try again tomorrow

stimpyyouidiot · 13/04/2022 12:38

@amorningperson I know.

God it sounds like you had some batshittery as well!! What on earth is wrong with people.

YanaBanana · 13/04/2022 21:51

Hi everyone!
I am glad to join this thread together with sooo many more mums-to-be in September.
We’ve been told we are having a girl this time, our boy is 3y8m now. The hospital close to us is Frimley Park, I thought maybe someone else here will give birth there…

I have an issue with being extremely tired still (15+ 5 today), I need to have a nap every day and have 0 energy. This is worrying me as I haven’t experienced it with my first pregnancy.
I am starting to panic not to have undetected cancer in my body. Without exaggerating, on some days I can’t get off the sofa for the day.
GP and midwife explain it with the pregnancy. But I’ve never heard anyone being sooo exhausted after 12 weeks. Just curious to hear your opinion based on your experience.
Thanks.

madeleine85 · 13/04/2022 22:45

@lunarshatters and @YanaBanana welcome!!

For YanaBanana, have you been suffering from sickness/reduced appetite? Are you taking pre natal vitamins to help energy levels? I wonder if it could be Iron related (non medical professional questions here). I am exhausted on random days, and it is worse when I eat certain things i.e. chocolate. It literally knocks me out for 1-2 hours after I eat it, so I just can't, although i frequently try and regret it. Weekends are also exhausting with my toddler, and I legitimately look forward to Monday morning daycare and "getting a break" while I work, which is insane! Pregnancy does crazy things to out bodies, and we are growing a whole human. I felt 100% worse last pregnancy with my girl, this time with my boy I have energy provided that I am careful, if I eat right, and if I don't exercise above what my body is using for calories. Please read from this that I am 20 weeks and that there are still frequent naps, and 9+ hour sleeps at night. Hope that helps!

petitlapin1 · 13/04/2022 23:51

Welcome to those newly joining us here!

Tonight I have reached a milestone! At 19+2 I have eaten a whole bag of maltesers and not felt like I was going to see them again! Sweet stuff usually knocks me for 6 but not tonight! Hurrah!
It's such an amazing feeling! Now I can't sleep though as I'm full of sugar and baby is doing a full-on jig- guess he/she likes maltesers too! 😂

How's everyone else's nausea/sickness going?

Peauela · 14/04/2022 07:35

Hey all! I'm pretty sure I felt baby move for the first time today! Weird flutters in lower belly, different than anything this far 😍 ahhhhh 💕

I have my scan this evening so please keep fingers crossed for us 💕 hope all is well 💕

Redapple21 · 14/04/2022 07:44

Hi all so lovely to read through and see how everyone is getting on. Very exciting that the 20 week scans are starting, mine is in 2 weeks and I'm starting to feel anxious now. Just hoping all goes ok. I think I'm in the minority here that I don't want to find out the sex. I totally get why people do, and before I was pregnant always thought I would - but now I'm here I've changed my mind and I can't really explain it, I just think it's too soon for me to know - is that weird 🤣 anyway a few people have said we will have to be really clear at the 20 week scan that we don't want to know - so let's see how that goes! Feeling so much better now at 18 weeks, nowhere near as tired and my appetite feels more back to normal and I'm actually eating salads again instead of constant carbs! There are still a few things I don't fancy (curry which I used to love) but on the whole I'm much better now. I am taking Pregnacare all in one vitamin and will do throughout. I can also feel some definite wriggling from baby this week which is so lovely. Love this thread and keeping up to date with how everyone is doing!

Celyn22 · 14/04/2022 08:21

@YanaBanana welcome! Around 14 till 18 weeks I had much more energy, but it’s been gradually dropping again! I’m now 20+1 weeks

I’m sleeping around 12 hours a night - going to bed usually 8/9pm, and having to nap or at least stay sitting/lying down in the day. I have forced myself to keep going a few times as there is so much to do here at home on a farm - with a deadline, and it’s all physical work! So I’m finding I have been getting increasingly achy in my back and feet.

My gut feeling is that it is normal to experience whatever we experience as our bodies are under so much more pressure. My vitamin / mineral levels are good so that’s not the reason for fatigue in my case, but that is a symptom for iron and b12 deficiencies.

I’ve eaten 3 packs of absolutely crap 25p-pack biscuits over the past few days (and didn’t share them!) on the days I’ve eaten them the pressure on my belly gets so painful and full, then I crash energetically big time. It also meant I couldn’t eat a healthy meal as it felt my food was sitting in my throat and not going down! So hopefully I’ve learned my lesson... when the ingredients are crap, it’ll make me feel crap!

@Peauela yay! Movements and scan!! Exciting day for you. I’ll be thinking of you today! Will you be finding out the gender?

@RedApple21 hey, lovely to hear from you! It’s awesome that you don’t want to find out the sex of your baba for now. I was the other way around - thinking I wouldn’t want to know, and then I kept calling him ‘he’ because he felt like a boy, but then I felt a bit guilty in case he was a girl and it may give her a complex growing up! So when I was able to find out I was very pleased to discover my intuition was right and he is a boy! So I’m glad I did, but I’d like to see through a pregnancy the traditional way, connecting with them on a soul level with less visuals - like the scans. Even though they make me melt each time I’ve seen him! Anyway this wasn’t supposed to be a rambling about me but I’m so excited and loved up right

Sending everyone hugs and back rubs from drizzly grey Wales!
