Just for fun, what's the stupidiest question or comment someone has said whilst you've been pregnant.

Was it planned?! That question has irked me with dc3?

OP posts:

LimeSupper · 17/03/2022 14:53

Is it your husband’s?

What do you think the baby will be called? Said as though I wouldn’t be choosing myself 😂

LimeSupper · 17/03/2022 14:54

Oh and at work:

So how many days a week will you be dropping to?

Harlequin1088 · 17/03/2022 14:54

@Notthissticky

A friend of a friend had a manager say that a miscarriage would obviously be an ideal outcome for them. She'd had two already. Some people are just unbelievable
That’s awful. I’d have fucking sued quite frankly.
ThatsNotItAtAll · 17/03/2022 14:55

"But you already have one of each!" when I was expecting dc3, followed by "it could happen to anyone, it happened to P didn't it?" (P already had 3 children despite her first two being one girl and one boy, which by implication precludes wanting a third child).

JuniperAndTonic · 17/03/2022 14:56

I’m only 11 weeks but a lady at work asked me if I was pregnant a few days ago, I obviously couldn’t lie so said “yes, but it’s still early.” Her reply was “How did you get pregnant?” 🤔 I’m not sure what answer she was expecting but I just awkwardly said “erm the normal way - what do you want me to tell you how babies are made?” 🤣 honestly I was so shocked she’d even asked I was pregnant let alone how I got pregnant!!

People are so weird about pregnancy!

Yummymummy2020 · 17/03/2022 14:57

A relative said to me they won’t congratulate me till I’m thirty weeks as a lot of people miscarry before then. I was having a bad pregnancy with preeclampsia at the time and only 20 weeks and I remember sobbing my eyes out after and was on edge the rest of the time worse than I already was! I’ll never forgive it but baby is a big and bold healthy two year old now. Really awful to say it at the time though!!!

Chocoqueen · 17/03/2022 14:58

Admittedly not to me, but DH's uncle said to him after finding out I was pregnant, 'oh, you've done the deed 😉' We'd been married over 2 years by that point....

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/03/2022 14:58

Are you sure it’s not twins? No I’m just fucking massive

Notthissticky · 17/03/2022 14:58

OTOH, when pregnant with my first I taught a delightful top set year 7 who were very interested in my pregnancy. They knew I struggled a lot with nausea and I always had a bottle of ginger beer on my desk to help with this. One afternoon they asked their science teacher if Miss notthissticky should really be drinking beer, isn't that bad for unborn babies?Grin I just loved a) their concern and b) the fact that it hadn't occurred to them that no teacher would be drinking alcohol in class, pregnant or not

Nosetickle · 17/03/2022 14:59

I got “are you sure you’re not having twins?” a lot towards the end.

ThatsNotItAtAll · 17/03/2022 15:00

When I was teaching a senior manager had a "quiet word" in the corridor with lots of teens passing but no other staff around to say she just wanted to "make sure you're aware you'll have to choose - loyalty to the school or loyalty to your family - not all women are cut out for it" and having dropped that pearl off she strode to make sure that no untucked shirts were going unaddressed...

Satsumaeater · 17/03/2022 15:00

@BiscuitLover3678

“You should sleep whilst you still can” followed by laughter.
Oh yes that's the usual one. For anyone pregnant reading this, my son slept through the night from 5 weeks old so it's entirely possible to get sleep!

I have no idea why people like putting the fear of God into pregnant women.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 17/03/2022 15:01

I told a new acquaintance I was glad I'd got to the end of the first trimester as I'd had a miscarriage previously.

She told me that I could still lose it, she was a midwife and knew about these things.

Strictly speaking it was true but not exactly what I needed to hear at that moment.

Notthissticky · 17/03/2022 15:02

It was. Not sure what you'd sue for but my shitty manager's lack of empathy (kid on O2 in hospital, "please can you make sure you set cover work in accordance with school policy") pales in comparison.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 17/03/2022 15:08

Took my wedding ring off due to swollen fingers. Took car for a tyre at a garage and bloke sang we are getting married in the morning. Cheeky bastard !

PrinnyPree · 17/03/2022 15:09

I was delivering a couple of bits for a foodbank at the local church one morning and there was a man waiting for it to open. I smiled and asked him how he was and he made a very graphic comment about how massive my "bazookas" were (I was very obviously 8 months pregnant) ConfusedBlush

Lorw · 17/03/2022 15:13

A small baby shower meal thing was organised with the female family members, they didn’t know I was pregnant as I kept it a secret from wider family and I had no bump so at this point I was 7 months. So I announced it and everyone was congratulating me etc, one of my DH family members during that 1 hour meal mentioned her miscarriages 3 times, I was a really anxious first time mum and it really didn’t help and kind of ruined my baby shower meal 😩

Doje · 17/03/2022 15:17

Pregnant with DC 2 and I went to the GP because I was in so much pain I couldn't walk.

He asked "Have you tried a hot water bottle". 🙄😠

elbea · 17/03/2022 15:20

I had a GP ask if I was having twins. When I said no she said it looked like it was. I don’t know what possessed her.

girlmom21 · 17/03/2022 15:21

It's the "are you trying to try again for a boy?" that pissed me off.

During pregnancies with girls.

No.

Geezabreak82 · 17/03/2022 15:25

"You must be due any day now..."

With DC2 this started when I was seven months pregnant. DC2 was a big baby, so he was probably a decent size by then and my bump was huge, but it was still annoying.

I also spoke at an event for teachers and college lecturers a few months before I gave birth and one of the women sitting near the front came up to me at the break and told me that I wasn't projecting my voice effectively which would make it difficult for the people at the back to hear me. I was struggling to take a deep breath at that point, of course I couldn't project my voice effectively!

You'll have to get rid of your cat. It will sleep on the baby's face and smother it. You'll have to get rid of your Jack Russell, they are very jealous dogs and will harm your baby.
Cat put its paws on the edge of the moses basket, took one look, then haughty walked away with his nose in the air, never went near again. Jack Russell was fine, being a foot high she would never have managed to get into the cot even if she wanted to, which she didn't!!
I told a couple of exdh's sisters that I was planning to breastfeed. They both looked horrified and replied "ooh you don't wanna be doing that!!"

Floofsquidge · 17/03/2022 15:29

On my last work event before Mat leave "It must be catching as is due soon too" she was at the same small event, and very clearly not due soon and not even pregnant. Weird man.

Our cats became very good cot warmers! They'd sleep in it when empty, but not interested at all when a squirmy, smelly crying baby was in it!

A colleague was also told this too and said people assumed "accident" third even though they'd planned it, so ridiculous!
