Just for fun, what's the stupidiest question or comment someone has said whilst you've been pregnant.

Was it planned?! That question has irked me with dc3?

‘God you’re so fat-is it triplets?’
‘I can’t believe you got yourself pregnant!’ (Last I heard it takes two)
7 days over due,a random woman came up to me and had a go at me for not being able to do my trousers up properly-they where held up with a hair bobble
Like I’m going to buy new clothes just for the last 10 days before I gave birth
‘Can’t believe your having twins!’ (I wasn’t)
‘I hope your bottle feeding-I can’t bear to see women get their tits out in public’

All spoken by women/mothers

Oh no I remember another one, my sister asking me if she could tell her friend I was pregnant (her friend was at her house) I said yes. The friend turned to me and said “is that a good thing?” Hmm Shock Confused

Dippydinosaurus · 17/03/2022 13:41

Had an early scan due to bleeding. The sonographer asked if it was planned. At 20 week scan I said we wanted to find out the sex and the sonographer said 'oh you want to find out the gender?' Confused. Lots of random people in supermarket queues commenting on the size of my bump and whether they could touch it. Erm no thanks

Ididanamechange · 17/03/2022 13:43

With ds I struggled really badly with nausea in my 1sr trimester. I was never actually sick but I felt sick and dizzy from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to bed. A colleague told me she couldn't understand why I was struggling because I was 'barely pregnant'

floofycroissant · 17/03/2022 13:44

Really idiotic scaremongering advice after I MC my last - "don't carry anything, you'll miscarry like so and so" or "don't reach your arms above your head, thats what I did to miscarry" Hmm Sure, sure it was, not genetics!? Added guilt and anxiety that is very much unwelcome atm.

Paris14eme · 17/03/2022 13:44

“We all know what you’ve been up to”- from an idiot senior male colleague. It was an ivf pregnancy btw.
When we told Ex MIL I was pregnant with first child (she knew we’d done ivf), she actually said:” Don’t get excited because you might have a miscarriage”. (Male factor infertility for the record, not that it matters, and she knew we’d been through a lot). I don’t speak to her since the separation & divorce. That’s my silver lining.

Extratoebeans · 17/03/2022 13:48

The 2 that I remember being said multiple times to me were "don't you have a tv" and "oh thats a shame, are you going to try again for a boy?"

I have 5 girls and this was said with every pregnancy from DD2 onwards.

Theunamedcat · 17/03/2022 13:49

You must get rid of the cats they will kill your baby Hmm

LillyLeaf · 17/03/2022 13:57

'Was it ivf?' Actually it was.

'I didn't think you were bothered about having kids' thanks, only been trying for years, so yeah I want them.

My dad would ask me if the baby was moving about much, I hated been asked that because I was so nervous about movement (previous miscarriages), so it always made me anxious.

People who didn't know my history would ask if I'm excited, totally normal thing to ask but truthful I was terrified everyday so found myself lying about the excitement. Not their fault, but it was hard being asked all the time.

@Theunamedcat

You must get rid of the cats they will kill your baby Hmm
Oooop yep I’ve had that one too! Apparently my dogs will be jealous of my baby and will tear it’s face off, my cats will suffocate him, and my chickens will peck his eyes out…..

Because, of course, I was just going to throw my baby into a ring with my pets and let them have at him…🙄

My response to this so far has been “Well what do farmers do when they have children? Get rid of their herds and herds of animals or just let their children grow up safely and responsibly around animals?”

showmethegin · 17/03/2022 14:01

I'm 27 weeks and I've had "sure it's not twins?!" About a million times.

Also, why as fellow mothers do people decide to tell you their horrific birth story as soon as they see a pregnant woman? I've had about 10 in the last 3 weeks. Why?!

Caulidop · 17/03/2022 14:02

I had been ill during my first pregnancy and it was known at work. Male colleague asked about how I was in relation to this (which was nice), I said I was doing ok but a little worried. His response was odd, something along the lines of 'oh women have been having babies for hundreds of years, what's the worst that could happen!?' with a little chuckle. To which I couldn't help but reply 'Well, I could die'

yaboreme · 17/03/2022 14:04

'Wow, I thought you were trying to avoid that happening?'

I wanted kids, happily married etc etc etc.

Very strange.

Catlitterqueen · 17/03/2022 14:07

@Ornamentalcabbages

Are you sure there's two in there?? Tinkly laugh

I was heavily pregnant with twins, however had quite a neat bump.

It always felt like such a stupid comment. Were they suggesting I'd lost one? Hmm Sad

Mine was the opposite of this! DD2s key worker at nursery asked me regularly if I was absolutely sure I wasn’t having twins when I was pregnant with DS. He did turn out to be quite a big baby but her exclaiming ‘but you’re huge!’ in spite of my insistence that there was definitely only one baby wasn’t particularly helpful!
AliasGrape · 17/03/2022 14:12

FIL on being told I was pregnant - 'but what about my dog's name? Will he come and live with us?'

Nope.

Just thought of another one! ExMIL who was very close to exDHs SIL said ‘Well that’s a blow!’ When we told her I was pregnant with DD1 Shock
Apparently she would have preferred SIL to provide her with her first grandchild!

MoonOnASpoon · 17/03/2022 14:15

I'm 27 weeks and I've had "sure it's not twins?!" About a million times.

I had a big bump that showed v early and I got so sick of this!

"Ooh how far along are you?"
"4 months"
"4 months, wow it must be twins!"
"No, it's not"
"Yes it is! That's definitely twins!"

FFS! I was at the scan, you weren't, random old woman in the chemists.

annlee3817 · 17/03/2022 14:19

You're baby is going to be massive.. yeah thanks for commenting on the size of my bump, now let's have a chat about your physique and see how you feel 🙄🙄

Theawkwardblonde · 17/03/2022 14:19

"Enjoy sleep while you can!"

Yeah...I hadn't had a full nights sleep since 6 weeks due to hyperemesis. Add in heartburn, backache, needing to pre every ten mins etc. I'm actually sleeping better now baby is here then while pregnant.

Second most irritating was "ooh another lockdown baby" or something along the lines of "we know what you've been doing in lockdown!" followed by eyebrow raises and taunting. I used to just respond that it wasn't a lockdown baby..if I had my way and hadn't had 3 losses I would have been pregnant long before lockdown 🙄

annlee3817 · 17/03/2022 14:19

Ahhhh sorry *your

SpiderinaWingMirror · 17/03/2022 14:20
  1. same partner?
  2. haven't you had it yet?
HailAdrian · 17/03/2022 14:20

I was told I shouldn't ride my bike while I was pregnant. Is there any reason I shouldn't have?
