@Vimto1991 the IVF docs advised all the other stuff and I figured I ought to give the little one all the chances, but when I told the doc I'd stopped them all because I figured I was eating pretty well a couple of weeks ago (after disastrous first trimester nausea) she said that was fine - including the folic acid. I'll carry on with that though, doesn't bother me, just the fish-flavour-burps I'm not going to put up with!

I get dizzy and out of breath going up more than about 10 stairs, or walking up a slight incline for 10 minutes 😂

Chocolate fudge cake! 🤤

Vimto1991 · 16/03/2022 10:49

@destiEos yeah I got told I don’t need to carry on with folic acid but it won’t harm to keep going. They’re mainly used in first trimester I think! I think people take folic even out of pregnancy and I have a massive tub so might as well!! So just keeping on with vit d (I’m deficient from sitting indoors all day 😂) and folic anyways.
Yeah I’m not good at exercise these days. We did a short less than 1km walk and I was exhausted. It was like I ran a marathon. I keep thinking I’m not even THAT far gone, but I think we do need to give ourselves a break, our bodies are doing quite a bit at the moment! 🙈 going to York for my birthday on Sunday and I’m kind of dreading what I’ll be like walking around. Need to stop for a sit or a pee constantly!!

Turniptracker · 16/03/2022 10:52

@BunBun221 I found a local lady recommended in a lost on the pgp partnership website so ensured she was familiar with the problem and was going to know how to deal with it. I have good days and bad days but the sciatic pain it causes is the worst and can be so sudden and random (that's why I ended up not being able to walk at one point). I was very frightened I would experience permanent damage and wouldn't be able to walk/run properly again after pregnancy. It was one of one of the key reasons I was anxious about ever getting pregnant. But here we are and fingers crossed nothing is permanent and we won't need a wheelchair by the end of this!!

destiEos · 16/03/2022 11:04

@Vimto1991 Oh, York is lovely 😊 Enjoy and don't worry everyone seems to be very lovely to pregnant-me, I'm being offered seats everywhere and I'm sure any cafe/restaurant would let you use the toilet if you flash your bump!🤰🏼

MrsNT · 16/03/2022 11:32

Ladies who are already mommies..Has anyone tried tescos own brand newborn nappies on their little ones? I got a free pack of 50 from bounty app and was reading reviews today and they seem to be very disappointing. Everyone talking about leaks etc.
Not sure whether to keep them or not now :/

Prema112 · 16/03/2022 11:55

@Flowerbug1994 That's a long time to be in triage! Glad to hear all is fine with bubs, mine was the same he kept kicking the monitor and they kept losing the heart beat. Right decision to go get checked though

EarlGreywithLemon · 16/03/2022 14:13

@MrsNT I didn't try those ones, but the impression I get is that good nappy fit can be individual to the baby. Some brands suit some babies' shape better. We also found the fit changed from nappy size to nappy size! We switched nappy brand for our daughter after size 2 for that reason.

So that's a long way to say maybe keep them and give them a go?

Vimto1991 · 16/03/2022 14:33

@destiEos thank you! Haha yeah I’ll just point to that bump 😂🙈

@MrsNT all my friends swear by Tesco own brand or Aldi!

PeeAche2 · 16/03/2022 15:03

I've stocked up on 60ish Lidl newborn disposable nappies. I'm aiming to switch to reusables at the end of that supply. But if she's too small for that, we'll restock. I honestly didn't realise there was a bit difference in nappy fit. I hope I haven't wasted my money!!

MrsNT · 16/03/2022 15:09

@vimto1991
@earlgreywithlemon
Hmm ..think ill keep the pack for now and see how it goes. I was going to buy aldi ones on recomendation once the freebie ones finish

OP posts:
EarlGreywithLemon · 16/03/2022 15:28

@PeeAche2 don't worry! Differences are marginal. And I'm afraid some leaks do happen anyway no matter how good the nappy. If the worst comes to the worst and you get some leaks, you'll just have a few more baby gros to bung in the washing machine. Nothing more than that.

Already got some bloodwork back from the GTT this morning, and nothing about glucose but it does look like I'm a bit anaemic - I'll wait for the doc to explain what the results mean specifically, but my Nov results are all fine and then they all drop out of range for today's draw. I've started taking the vitamins (including iron) again today - seems I may have been premature in stopping them after all Sad

Lostintranslatio · 16/03/2022 17:12

My bloods came back yesterday and glucose is fine so are iron levels. Anyway midwife told me to start taking iron supplements from week 28.

destiEos · 16/03/2022 17:21

@Lostintranslatio looks like I also haven't done so well on the 120 min glucose test either :/

I got 9.9 so fall into the Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) range..

bugger

Lostintranslatio · 16/03/2022 17:25

@destiEos oh no! Did you get an appointment with the consultant? My friend had GD and with diet she controlled the glucose pretty well. It was a pain at the beginning, but she got used to it and baby was great!

destiEos · 16/03/2022 18:07

@Lostintranslatio they said if there was anything wrong I'd get a call. Results only posted this afternoon so I expect I'll hear tomorrow. Thanks, I thought my diet was adequate if not ideal - ah well, less cake for me 😢

EarlGreywithLemon · 16/03/2022 18:25

@destiEos don't beat yourself up! I don't think GD is caused by diet! An explanation here:

"During pregnancy, your placenta makes hormones that cause glucose to build up in your blood. Usually, your pancreas can send out enough insulin to handle it. But if your body can't make enough insulin or stops using insulin as it should, your blood sugar levels rise, and you get gestational diabetes."

AlbatrossSociety · 16/03/2022 18:26

@destiEos how are you feeling about it? I don't think that it's a reflection of an inadequate diet, just the way your body is processing glucose. I had a consultation with a nutritionist the other day as I'm a bit worried I'm becoming a little too focused on diet and weight and I wanted some support. She emphasised that impaired glucose tolerance can happen to anyone in any pregnancy.

fpeg · 16/03/2022 18:36

@destiEos as @EarlGreywithLemon says it's definitely not a reflection of your diet and whilst some can be controlled with diet alone many with GD end up on meds to help control it too. Sometimes our bodies just need a bit of help 💚 hope you're feeling ok x

destiEos · 16/03/2022 18:53

@fpeg @AlbatrossSociety @EarlGreywithLemon you're all lovely, thank you for your comments Daffodil I'm really tired too be honest, it's been a long day and really wasn't expecting anything negative from the test, or even results back so quickly.

The blood results worry me more, as I think I'm just in the middle of the Impaired Glucose Tolerance, not in the Diabetic range. I suppose until I speak to the doc no sense in getting too worked up - there always the 5am wake up call to mull over it 😂😢

Hope everyone else is doing well today, been a bit miserable, grey and rainy in London 🌧

Lostintranslatio · 16/03/2022 18:55

@destiEos DG isn't caused by unhealthy habits or diet. It is a hormonal response!! So don't beat yourself and wait to talk to the Dr.

sunflower198 · 16/03/2022 19:04

@destiEos hope you get some answers in your call tomorrow.
I was diagnosed with GD 2 weeks ago, it's been a lot of learning and stressing but I had a consultant appt/scan today and all is good, I've actually been told to increase my carbs as I wasn't actually eating enough 🤷🏻‍♀️
I've just had a normal portion of pasta for my dinner tonight and i had cake on Sunday, so it's not all bad x

MrsNT · 16/03/2022 19:23

What are you ladies planning to wear during labour? Hospital gown or your own? Im thinking of buying some long loose tshirts from primark they were about 6 as it seems a bit more modest compared to an open back hospital gown!
Also came across these really nice labor dresses on ebay. They have buttons front and back incase access is required at back for epidural etc but they cost atleast £13 and i know it will go straight in bin after

Ladies who are already mommies..plz share ur tips as to what you wore during labour

OP posts:
MrsNT · 16/03/2022 19:25

@destieos as others said..GD isnt in your control and nothing you ate could have caused it so dont be upset. Now that thry know u are on the right path which is what counts so dont be sad about it. Positive vibes only

@MrsNT I’m planning on buying a couple of the labour dresses because I figure I’ll wear them as nighties at home post partum, too. Also, the hospital Im expecting to deliver at keeps all new mums in for at least 2-3 nights. I’m looking at the ones which allow easy feeding and skin to skin too. Like this:

3 in 1 Labor / Delivery / Nursing Hospital Gown Baby Be Mine Maternity,, Hospital Bag Must Have www.amazon.com/dp/B07N13C8FT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_PG16P9MM7SBBYM5QFWG1?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
