@ToCaden I’m having a teary day too. I don’t really know why either! Just feeling flat. I agree it must at least in part be exhaustion- insomnia most nights & have a medical condition that causes fatigue.
I imagine for you having gone through IVF you’ve had quite a prolonged period of stress/anxiety as well as the rollercoaster physically and emotionally. We should give ourselves a break shouldn’t we!

It is feeling real now that I’m starting to see the beginnings of a bump! Shock

mamaof2girls · 10/02/2022 14:24

Had my 12 week scan today and every went really well was a great experience had a lovely person showing us everything and going right into detail off the baby due date still 26th august! X

BunnieMilk · 10/02/2022 14:30

@mamaof2girls my due date too! ❤️

CoalCraft · 10/02/2022 14:30

I wouldn't say I've had an energy burst per se, just a lessening of

CoalCraft · 10/02/2022 14:30

... of permanent tiredness!

Congrats to those having scans, so exciting!

Unsure1010 · 10/02/2022 14:40

@BunnieMilk oh how lovely!!! Don’t worry about birthing plans too much - as previously said, you’ve got time to go over these, and at the end of the day, it’s your choice.

I had a great day yesterday - full of energy, got tons done…. Today - battery is dead. Struggling to get even the simplest task done at work and have so many deadlines coming up!!! Guess we just have to ride the waves for now.

surprised12 · 10/02/2022 15:10

Anyone give me some advice??

12 weeks on Friday - dream job has just came up at work. Should I apply even though I'm pregnant?
I think there is a bit of taboo about applying for a new job when your expecting .... really don't know what to do!?

ToCaden · 10/02/2022 16:25

@surprised12 if it's your dream job I say go for it. Just check none of your maternity benefits will be affected.

They'll only need to cover you for maternity leave and will have you for x number of years afterwards. Don't hold yourself back from what you want because you're a woman of childbearing years.

Best of luck if you do go for it.

squatternutbosh12 · 10/02/2022 16:30

@surprised12 you absolutely should go for your dream job! The law is clear on it - they cannot discriminate because you are pregnant, whether or not you tell them about it before (or after) you apply. www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/managing-pregnancy-and-maternity-workplace/help-and-support-employees/faqs-employees/during-6

Outdated attitudes do still exist sadly, just have to hope your employers have got their heads screwed on, but if it’s your dream job definitely don’t let being pregnant stop you from going for it.

After all it would be very short sighted of a company to choose the second-best person for the job ahead of a better, pregnant applicant. A sensible company will know that maternity leave is short in the grand scheme of all the years even decades of skill and commitment you can give them as the best person for the job!

ToCaden · 10/02/2022 16:52

@squatternutbosh12 wow a bump! That's exciting. It's going to be interesting when we really pop. People being able to notice at a glance that you're pregnant feels like it will be an odd experience. At least to those of us who are pregnant for the first time.

Ten more minutes of work then I think straight to bed for me.

I agree. I think it's important to give ourselves a break at times. It's easy to forget what an ordeal growing a human can be.

I wonder if there's a ritual sacrifice we're forgetting to do in order to bring about the much talked about second trimester energy.

beckybloomwood11 · 10/02/2022 17:00

Oh @KCat82 I'm sorry you had a rubbish experience. That sounds awful.

I'm the same as you and got told yesterday that I'm only 11+1, not 12+3 though I was expecting to be behind what they had me at from my booking appt. I did have a bit of a wobble at first, as I was hoping to come away having had the tests done, and didn't get that reassurance. But thinking about it, there are positives - they can see a baby with a heartbeat and told me not to worry, so I'm trying just to focus on that. Do you have the date for your next scan yet? Hopefully not too long to wait?

Fingers crossed the next time you have a better experience and that they have your appointment in! Ridiculous to make you wait that long with a full bladder and then act like you showed up without an appointment when it wasn't your fault at all! That's so rubbish.

koalalala · 10/02/2022 17:17

@surprised12 I went for a new job at my current company before I knew I was pregnant. Requires significant external training. Have declared my pregnancy and was worried but it's fine and they're planning for my Mat leave now so it should be fine.
Hope you're experience is good too. I've not been disadvantaged at all during my last pregnancy or this one it would seem. Hope your workplace are on the same page!

Definitely go for it! If it were me I'd tell them at the offer stage rather than the interview stage unless they are likely to already know!

Isonthecase · 10/02/2022 17:36

Go for it @surprised12, worst they can say is no and if you're already there they may be able to smooth out cover plans as they recruit cover for your new role and a new person for your old one. They might well decide against you because of pregnancy but some people will just for being childbearing age 🤷

KCat82 · 10/02/2022 17:38

@BunnieMilk @SantiagoSister @ToCaden thanks all for the reassurance. I got a call today to book me in for 22nd which seems like such a long wait. Obviously I'm happy that they were able to say all looked fine yesterday but just know I won't be satisfied until we have a proper 12 week scan.
Hope everyone's doing well.

surprised12 · 10/02/2022 18:10

Thanks for all the job advice - I've applied so will see what happens.
The company I work for are big on equality and diversity so I'm hoping that I'll get a fair shot! Fingers crossed!

RP90 · 10/02/2022 18:59

I feel like we're all getting somewhere with all these scan dates and appointments now.

We had our scan yesterday. All good and had a very wriggling active baby on the screen. I'm also due the 26th Grin!

Unfortunately my husband tested positive tonight, feel like that's taken the wind out my sails a bit but trying to tell myself it'll all be OK Confused!

Also good on you for applying for that job! Fingers crossed for you.

notsofertilemyrtle · 10/02/2022 19:30

I had my scan today! All good and measuring 12+3, EDD is now 22/08 ☺️

Couldn't get the nuchal translucency and apparently they don't re-scan so having quad test instead which only tests for one of the three syndromes. I'm in two minds what to do...just do the Downs screening, go for NIPT (£££) or leave it be. Anyway, things looked good as far as we can see! Phew!

madeleine85 · 10/02/2022 20:59

I just had my NIPT results back, all low risk and it is definitely a boy. The sneakpeak test was correct! As I am 36 going 37 I was a little worried about the NIPT so I am breathing a sigh of relief!

@surprised12 ySo glad you applied! I hate that we hold ourselves back for something we literally have ingrained in our DNA. Go for the promotion, get that extra mat leave pay!

@notsofertilemyrtle how old are you if you don't mind me asking, and are you aware of any genetic issues in either of your families? I had my DD at 34 and we did not test, no family history of issues, and she so far seems all good. We did the NIPT this time as I am 36 and it is all low risk, but glad I did it just based on age risk.

T1mumtobe · 11/02/2022 04:51

Damn I just wrote a message and then lost it before pressing send!

Thank you all for the kind welcome messages.

@squatternutbosh12 and @madeleine85 - I ended up admitted to hospital last weekend as the sickness just got worse and worse until ketosis kicked in, so I got 2 bags of fluid and anti-emetic s by injection, then they sent me home with Stemetil tablets which seemed to be working until yesterday when o started vomiting again 😣 just woke up throwing up again now, I'm so tired! How exciting that you're both feeling first flutters!

@KitsuneDream I am so, so sorry about your loss ❤️

@Lilbean0408 welcome!

squatternutbosh12 · 11/02/2022 08:38

@T1mumtobe Sad oh no, you poor thing!! I hope you’ve stopped vomiting now? If the problem is vomiting up the stemetil, there is Buccastem which is the same thing but dissolves in the mouth to get into your system rather than having to be swallowed/risk being thrown up? Or you might need to try a different class of antiemetic - having been admitted to hospital hopefully whoever is looking after you will now want to do whatever necessary to prevent another admission Hmm
Sorry it got to that stage it must’ve been an awful experience! Hope you feel much better soon Flowers

T1mumtobe · 11/02/2022 08:55

@squatternutbosh12 thank you! I will ask about the Buccastem, although I had Stemetil at about midnight and threw up for the first time after it at around 3am so I suspect I need to try a different type. Thankfully I have the antenatal clinic today anyway so can ask the doctor what to do, as I'm so fed up at this point!

squatternutbosh12 · 11/02/2022 09:11

@T1mumtobe yeah, think you’re probably right then- buccastem is good if the problem is simply not keeping tablets down but it’s a lower dose than stemetil so might just not be enough for you. Glad you have clinic- hope they can find you something that sorts this out for you! Good luck x

Littlebutload · 11/02/2022 09:15

Had my twelve week scan yesterday and everything looks great, due on the 22nd of August. The one thing that was concerning me was pre eclampsia as I had it at the end of my last pregnancy (unexpectedly, I had none of the risk factors) so she has put me on low dose aspirin every day. I'm not in the UK and all going well I don't get seen again until the 20 week scan, is that the same in the UK?

ToCaden · 11/02/2022 09:29

@littlebutload it's normal for where I am on UK. You can have an optional 16 week appointment here if you've done the screening blood tests (for things such as risk of downs syndrome) but can opt out. So 20 week one is next non opt out appointment.

Littlebutload · 11/02/2022 09:43

@ToCaden thanks, seems a long time but hopefully the 8 weeks will fly!
