Guys I am so late to this so sorry if it’s boring you… but I held off buying as I was sleeping fine. Last 3 nights however my hip really hurts and I keep waking up as I’m so uncomfortable. I’m really trying to stick to guidelines of sleeping on left side but I have had to move to right side when I get too sore (not for long as that hip then hurts 😂)

I can’t afford to spend a fortune on a pregnancy pillow. Can anyone recommend one that has helped them that is less than £40?

Even better if it doubles as back support when sitting & potentially a breastfeeding. Could stretch to £50

*breastfeeding pillow

RoseValleyRambles · 22/01/2022 08:05

@curryandsnuggle If you're ok with a sewing machine, you can make your own: I've just made a super long, slightly tight pillow case and studded it with two regular pillows. It's like a giant sausage and it's great! Also one less thing to get rid of after.

Roxystar23 · 22/01/2022 08:24

@CurryandSnuggle - I’ve purchased two. The first was two firm and I found it to be quite comfortable.
I then ordered this one for £19 - amp.direct.asda.com/george/baby/baby-feeding/breastfeeding/kinder-valley-12ft-nursing-maternity-pillow/050297393,default,pd.html

And it improved my sleep dramatically! It’s much more squishy and because it’s so long I can tuck it under my knees and still have some left to tuck behind me while lying on my side so I feel supported. It’s also really good for providing support when sitting on the sofa. My sofa is quite low so I was starting to struggle to stand up but this has helped.

I definitely meant to say the first was quite uncomfortable - I’m having a nightmare this morning!
Roxystar23 · 22/01/2022 08:30

@laurenGame - Aah! Thank you so much for your message - it has helped me a lot so I really appreciate you sharing your story. ♥️ I’ve woken up feeling much more positive this morning! I spent last night browsing online gender specific baby clothes and this made me much more excited. I’m sure that this excitement will grow daily and in 2-3 weeks time I will be just as elated as you are. 😊

pregnancydiaries · 22/01/2022 08:32

@CurryandSnuggle my sister in law recommended this one. She said it was really good because of the small pillow too and also helped with sitting up etc. I haven't bought yet so can't say if it's any good but think I trust her judgement!xx

@CurryandSnuggle I got this one and I love it. It's quite big but we had a standard double and there's still lots of space for it, me and my husband who's 6ft 4. I like that I can sleep on my side and even if I roll slightly onto my back in the night, the pillow stops me from rolling over properly so I don't worry at all about ending up on my back. You can get spare cases for it too.

Anyone else not planning to find out gender?

unknownscot · 22/01/2022 09:53

@CurryandSnuggle
Have you tried Facebook selling groups / marketplace or Vinted/Depop/eBay etc?

We have a local Bartering group on Facebook and lots of baby things on there going for cupboard staples / candles etc 😂

DaimDillyDoo · 22/01/2022 10:00

Found you guys! Grin

I've been away for a couple of weeks, we moved house (the day my HG reared back up!)

Had my 20 week scan although the sonographer didn't offer to tell us what we we having (we had a private scan earlier but wanted reassurance 😂) and I didn't ask! Are you meant to ask?!

My boobs are leaking. Lovely.

How is everyone else?

GrowBabyGrow · 22/01/2022 10:04

@CurryandSnuggle do you have a spare duvet? I found that rolling one up like a big sausage and putting it in a cover tied at each end with a hairtie was really comfortable before I had a pregnancy pillow. It also meant I knew what style of pregnancy pillow was helpful (I've gone for a full length body pillow) without risking spending money on one that I might not like and then having to spend more money on a different one.

unknownscot · 22/01/2022 10:35

@DaimDillyDoo
Hope the house move went well. We're just currently decorating our bedroom this weekend, and then the nursery over the coming months.

Yes, it's not a given that Sonographers tell you the sex or offer to find out. It's not medical so a lot of hospitals don't have it in their policy.

EarlGreywithLemon · 22/01/2022 13:04

@CurryandSnuggle I use a pillow behind my back and a pillow between my knees and under the bump. Id find it difficult to get up or move otherwise.
I do sleep both on the left and the right sides. I think the left is preferable, but as far as I’m aware the only big no-no is your back

@CurryandSnuggle have you tried your local Facebook groups? Or even fb marketplace? I have a great local fb group & have managed to get a load of baby stuff for free or very cheaply. My pregnancy pillow is currently £220 Shock on Amazon but got it for free on my local group, I’ve just washed the 2 covers it came with.

Octoblockisadick · 22/01/2022 15:41

Hi all, I'm due middle of June, 20 weeks today. My 20 week scan is next Friday so quite late really. I'm looking forward to finding out what we are having!
Congrats to everyone who has had their scans so far.

That's a brilliant idea: and good duvet storage too!

CurryandSnuggle · 22/01/2022 16:13

Thank you for the brilliant suggestions everyone! Being a cheap skate right now (as we’re saving for shared parental leave) so I’m thinking I’ll use what we’ve got already to start with. If it doesn’t work I’ll have to invest. Particularly loving the rolled up duvet idea!

CurryandSnuggle · 22/01/2022 16:16

Also I’m on quite a few freecycle type pages, but I’m a little bit fussy about sharing things like pillows. I’m not sure why, just freaks me out 😂🙈

PeeAche · 22/01/2022 16:40

@CurryandSnuggle I'm also not going to be buying a pregnancy pillow, if I can help it. Money for old rope.

However, a pregnancy pillow pillowcase is £5-10 (and requires no sewing whatsoever. Shove the sewing. You're a pregnant goddess.)

Swipe to order and the very next day, a little Amazon man will bring it right to your door. Don't you just love living in the future? Anyway, stuff it with a duvet... spare cushions... an old pillow or 3... put your husband in there too, if he complains (you're a pregnant goddess, remember)

Ah, voilà!

Question? Does anyone else do a "voice" for their baby? Whenever my husband or step children speak to baby, baby replies in a gruff, male, Mexican voice. Sort of middle aged. Heavy smoker. I don't know why. Just sort of feels right.

My pregnancy pillow is SO worth the money. Honestly have slept so well since getting it, i totally think it's worth the £50 as will use it to support feeding bubs later.

mrkb · 22/01/2022 19:23

I got my pregnancy pillow for Christmas as didn't personally want to shell out on one haha but it really has changed my sleep and it converts to a breastfeeding pillow when baby is here. Whatever you go for (duvet situation or Amazon) I think it's definitely worth getting something if you're having sleep problems!

rathernotshare · 22/01/2022 19:36

I really struggled with picking a pillow, didn't like the 2 sided ones as I like to be close to my husband even if we're not touching! Got one coming tomorrow, so hard picking on Amazon as there are hit and miss reviews on every single pillow

Rolledthedice · 22/01/2022 20:42

I can’t remember if I got the recommendation from this group or not, but for any mums considering home birth (especially FTM like myself!) - I’m reading Why Homebirth Matters by Natalie Meddings. It’s well researched and provides a balanced view on home birth. I like it so far anyhow!

Rolledthedice · 22/01/2022 20:46

@laurenGame yes I think if I was going to get extra support I’d rather a private midwife, as like you say, doulas don’t have the medical background.

That’s good you have confidence in your DH for support! My partner is brilliant at many things, but I’m not sure he’s the best person for tuning into how I’m feeling/reacting during labour! 😅
