@Dyra
Yeah like you say the problem is, with it being summer alot aren't running or are replaced by clubs for older children. I guess we are in August tomorrow so not long until they will be back on.
Ive not seen my HV since Teddy was 6 weeks old. Not sure if thats normal.
Aww well done Max, yes Teddy is the same. Not really sure what to do with them.

Caass45 · 01/08/2022 16:23

I totally agree with not being able to do much just now. I would love to take Elizabeth to things like soft play or aquariums etc but she would just get bored just now/is too young to enjoy it. Feel bad that we spend so much time at home bit what else is there to do.
We are currently looking into baby swim lessons but the only ones that will take her at this age are £18 for 30 minutes which seems a lot. Can start at our local pool but not until 6 months and it's 9am. Ells doesn't wake ip until 9.30 😅
No hv since 6 weeks doesn't seem right we've had monthly visits since then only 6 weeks since our last as our HV was ill 2 weeks ago. Maybe give them a call? Maybe it's cause I'm a FTM but I live for HV visits 🤣 get to ask all my questions and love seeing her growth process.

Scoaf · 01/08/2022 18:01

@Caass45
Yes we spend alot of time at home too. But i guess its just their age like you say.
We've booked onto a sensory class for Sept. Its 7 weeks for £50 so i thought that was good.
£18 a lesson? That is bloody steep.
What about private gyms near by? The one near us does a baby class twice a week but you havr to be a member and its £24pm.
I asked the other mums at baby massage this morning and 3 other mums said they hadnt seen a HV since 6 weeks either and were told they wont get another visit until 9months which is what i was told. 🤷‍♀️

Dyra · 01/08/2022 18:29

I vaguely remember getting more HV visits as a FTM, but then that was pre-Covid. My friend who had her DD around the same time, didn't hear from her HV after 6 weeks until the 2 year check, so it could be an area problem. Definitely had less contact this time either way.

Aquariums are a good idea. Lots to look at, even if they don't appreciate it. And if they sleep through it all, it's still an interesting day out for you! Soft play though is utterly pointless until they're crawling comfortably at least. Walking confidently even better.

We pay a similar rate for our toddler's swimming lessons. She's been going since she was 18mo, but it's only in the past couple of months she's got the hang of it. Not that she can swim without a noodle mind you. She still sinks without some form of buoyancy aid. And don't get me started on how cold the pool is. She's small for her age, but if a separate pool designated for teaching young children has them blue lipped and shivering with cold, then something is wrong. She seems to enjoy it though, which is the only reason she still goes. I probably won't do lessons with Max until DD is in school.

Actually... Now I think about it. DD was gradually slipping down the centiles at the time. Not fast enough for the HV to be worried, but maybe it resulted in more visits. Turns out she was finding her natural line. She started on the 50th (90th by gestation), and meandered her way down to between the 9th and the 25th over 6 months. Then we started weaning, Covid hit, and she's stuck there ever since.

@Scoaf we did sensory class from 6 weeks till 13 weeks it was great she was a little small to appreciate it fully but was so good for getting her used to sounds and other people from a young age we can't wait to get back we only stopped for summer to do stuff with my sister and neice but it's just not worked out that way 🤣
I'll have to have a look at private gyms.

@Dyra interesting you said about slipping down the centiles. Elizabeth has been between 50 abd 75th for weight consistently since birth. She hasn't been weighed in 7 weeks and is now down to the 50th. Health visitor isn't worried and thinks its just down to her dropping night feeds completely. She has her last feed at 8.30 down to sleep between 9.30-10pm and wakes 9-9.30 ready for first feed so she is going much longer without a feed.
Going to 9 months sounds mad to me but it must just be your area. We've had visits monthly since 10 weeks which has been so good for asking questions.

Elizabeth may or may not have started the sleep recession. She may just have teething pain. She has been waking once or twice screaming for a few days but nothing we can't handle then last night she woke every 30 minutes like that until I cuddled her with me all night. I've given her teething gel before bed and so far no wakes yet but I imagine it'll happen soon but she's been down about 2 hours. Maybe just due to teething
Its so hard to know as a first time mum. The indicators are drooling and chewing but that's also indicators of just being a baby 😅 but today particularly she has been shoving fists in her mouth almost in anger so I feel there is some pain in there

We have family visiting this week. Isn't life a peach 😅

Derbee · 06/08/2022 00:52

Hi all, nice to catch up on everyone’s journeys. We’ve mastered rolling over both directions, back to front and front to back. So life is exciting! Haha

@Caass45 are the £18 swimming lessons with Water Babies? If so, I cannot recommend it enough! I signed up slightly reluctantly due to the price, but it’s absolutely fantastic. He’s definitely got stronger and looked closer to sitting etc since swimming.

Seems quiet at the moment with all classes off… I like having something to do every day, and a reason to leave the house! Really grateful for our NCT group, as we’re all still meeting up a couple of times a week

I can’t believe there are pregnancy threads for March/April 2023 already! Where does the time go?!

Dyra · 06/08/2022 01:28

@Derbee A master of rolling! Next stop crawling! Max is so close to back to front, but selfishly I want him to wait a bit longer. I like being able to leave him on my bed and know he'll still be there. It is crazy seeing that the March and April 2023 boards are up and running already. Almost want to post a picture of Max and go, this will be you this time next year!

@Caass45 Sounds like some teeth are on the move to me. Poor mites. FX they calm down again to give you both some respite.

Epli · 06/08/2022 09:44

Are everyone’s babies so needy of constant stimulation and attention right now? I cannot leave mine on a mat for longer than 5 minutes. If it was up to her I would spend whole day talking to her or carrying her around showing things :D

Dyra · 06/08/2022 10:08

A lot of the time, yes @Epli . Hopefully they'll get there. DD was a bit of a velcro baby, but once she was able to crawl and get to the interesting things herself, she became much more independent.

OP posts:
Caass45 · 06/08/2022 11:27

@Derbee yes it's water babies sounds like a great class but with me not having a job i worry a lot about cost of things. I'm weighing up the benefits against just waiting for the 6 month class at our local pool. Little bubs is already like super strength I'd worry if she got stronger haha she's always trying to sit up herself.

@Dyra yes I do fear she may have some teeth on the way. Just gotta wait it out I suppose. She woke up again last night screaming and just would not calm with my husband but calmed instantly with me. Its draining and makes him feel quite sad I think.

@Epli our little one isn't too demanding but she rolls instantly when we lay her down then she gets irritated that she can't move any more than that. She shouts a lot right now and does seem to want me more than anyone else this week. Should just be a phase and you'll probabsly find she amuses herself again in a day or two

Scoaf · 07/08/2022 15:35

Seems we are all in the same boat atm with our LOs being at that imbetween stage.
After Teddy rolling over last week yesterday he stated again and hasnt stopped since. Literally the second he is put down.
We've had a trip to the GP on call today as Teddy woke up with terrible conjunctivitis. He looks so sorry for himsle. Makes me want to cry whenever i look at him, especially since hes still smiling away 🥺
We've got some antibiotic ointment so fingers crossed it clears up soon. X

Epli · 08/08/2022 13:07

@Scoaf My LO also had conjunctivitis and it started clearing from the day 2 after ointment application, hopefully you will see improvement very soon!

Scoaf · 08/08/2022 16:18

@Epli
Ah thanks. Its already so much better today 🙂

Scoaf · 12/09/2022 09:02

Hi Everyone.
Its been a while. How is everyone getting on?
Just wondering if anyone has any tips with helping baby to nap in the day.
Teddy wakes up bang on 30mins everytime and is just cranky so i think hes overtired?
Thanks x

Countingchicks · 12/09/2022 10:01

@Scoaf we have the same issue. I find if she's up for a little bit longer and has a feed just before going down she can stretch to an hour

Scoaf · 12/09/2022 10:13

@Countingchicks
My problem is that he then gets over tired and wont settle 🙈 its a vicious circle.
Where does your LO sleep in the day?

Countingchicks · 12/09/2022 10:48

She sleeps in her cot. If she overtired were resorting to a form of sleep training. Helps keep me sane among the screaming. One minute of crying then go in to comfort. Put down as soon as quietened, then two minutes of crying, repeat, then three minutes... Usually goes to sleep by the six minute timer. If she gets to eight minutes then something is obviously bothering her so I try calpol and then five minutes of boob and she's out.i figure it's her teeth then hurting too much

We only get decent naps if we go for a looooong walk, or take him swimming. 😂

Dyra · 12/09/2022 22:08

We only get decent naps if I hold Max. Or take a long, long, long long long walk with the pram. I have to hold and feed to sleep. He wakes up 90% of the time if I try to put him down. Unless it's late in the evening. Thank goodness he's usually an excellent night sleeper. He's got a cold atm, so it's been 2 hourly wake ups the past two nights. He's doing better today.

It's tough, and the house is zero clean, but I did it with DD, and she eventually became a good sleeper. If Max is following the same pattern, he'll drop to one nap around Christmas, or whenever he's crawling confidently. Then I'll be able to put him down in his cot. It's just a matter of time. He'll get there.

Elizabeth currently only naps if I hold her. She naps like 4 times a day usually only 30 mins but usually 1 longer nap. I plan on sleep training soon. She's also the last 2 nights refused to sleep at night unless we cuddle her or lie beside her. Hooe that's a short phase. Feel like I'm back to the newborn stage.

Anyone else's babies suddenly started fully volume yelling? 🙈 she's so loud I'm put off taking her out but also get anxiety having her home when husband works from home

Mine has done full volume screaming since day 1. It's been extremely wearing... I sometimes wear earplugs!

As for the sleep, DD wakes every 1-2 hours all night long and has 2 x 30 minute naps in the day.

Bring on the teenage years asap 😴

Dyra · 16/09/2022 12:11

There's a volume for yelling other than maximum? Max has not demonstrated such restraint yet. He's also developed a happy/excited screech. He's an assault on the ears whether happy or sad.

@Caass45 FX it's just a small regression. Hoping Elizabeth is back to her regular sleep schedule tonight, or ASAP if not.

I can't believe Max has been around for 6 months already. Just.... Where has the time gone?

Scoaf · 16/09/2022 13:10

Im glad Teddy isnt the only 1 who takes short naps.
Im hoping they may get longer when he starts solids. We're starting next week.
He is also a shouter 🤣

MiracleBaby2022 · 16/09/2022 14:26

@Scoaf we've started two weeks ago but DD is just spitting everything back out again... wondering how long it'll take before she gets the idea!
