@Dyra uho! I was really hoping this was a horrible 😭 I hope it passes quickly. I'm dreading it. Elizabeth has been doing 10-11 hour straight stretches recently it's been a dream.

@Scoaf poor little fella! Teething already. I'm not sure about birthday party but Elizabeth recently started being really unsettled with people she doesn't know. A friend of ours tried to give her a bottle and she was ok for a few seconds then she looked at her and just screamed until my husband took over. She did that a few days before with people she's never met. Have you been to any sensory classes? We went to 5 from about 7 weeks old and at first she was quite overwhelmed with the noises and sights and the new people but after a week or two she was better. Could just be it wss out of the norm.

Caass45 · 02/07/2022 22:05

5 as in 1 a week until about 2 weeks ago. Only stopped because we liked the Monday class and my sister and neice are off Mondays for the summer so we have summer of fun planned with the kids x

Dyra · 02/07/2022 22:38

Now the fourth trimester is over they're becoming actual people. Still babies, but things really start changing quickly now. Soon they'll be rolling. Then there's crawling/scooting/whatever. Sitting without support. Pulling to stand. Cruising. Maybe even walking. Grabbing toys and bringing to mouth. Laughing, weaning, babbling. Teeth! Maybe a word or two. You think. They'll be able to do most of that by Christmas. And it's not that far away

Sounds like DS was very overstimulated @Scoaf . Probably overtired too. And then the sleep regression makes them clingy too. And he's teething as well?! Poor mite. Yeah. I'd shout too. Hopefully his teeth will stop moving around soon.

@Caass45 It's not too bad. He's very squirmy when he's falling asleep, so he keeps waking himself up. Then he gets overtired, and deafens us letting us know about it.... He's still doing 6-8 hour stretches (thank goodness), but wake up is 5-6am atm. He's also stirring quite a bit while asleep too. We're over a week in now, so I think the worst of it is past.

@Dyra our little one wants to do everything yesterday. She has started today almost completely rolling back to front. Can't quite make the arms work but she gets the bottom half rolled right over. She's only 3 months. She also wants to sit up a lot. You see her trying her best. 6-8 hours is OK Elizabeth does fuss a bit In the night and it wakes me but a hand on the chest or just leaving her and she does ok. She's started really moving around her next to me so the side will need to go up all night soon. She can grab stuff now and even got a teether into her mouth for a chew usually it's just muslins. Where have our little babies gone!

Scoaf · 02/07/2022 23:04

@Caass45
Ah poor Elizabeth, so sad seeing them upset.
They're obviously getting alot more used to the people around them now.
No not tried baby sensory. All the classes by me have a waiting list. We are due to start baby massage next week though and swimming after hsi next Jabs with my cousin and her little girl so hopefully that will help. How lovely that you will get that time with your sister.
Teddy is spending his first night in his next to me tonight after far too much movement in his moses, cheeky sausage is trying his best to roll over and grabs the side of the moses now.
We did try him in the next to me when he was first born but think he didnt like how small her was in it.
@dyra yes now i think about it. It must have all just been too much. We have 2 more parties nect weekend though 😭 July is a busy birthday month for us. Maybe we should just spend an hour at each so he doesnt get too overwhelmed?

I cant believe how quickly the time is going. Teddy is booked in nursery for 2 days a week from November now when i return to work 😭

Dyra · 02/07/2022 23:18

Oh wow! That's some impressive hand mouth coordination. And nearly rolling back to front too?! Someone's putting all her talent points into motor skills! 😂

Speaking of the next to me, we're having to source an intermediate cot, as Max only has a couple cm left in his Moses basket to grow into. He's 16 weeks old today and so, so, so much bigger than his sister was at the same age. He's almost out of 3-6mo clothes. There's not enough room for the big cot in our room. He can't move out of our room to the big cot, as he'll be sharing with his sister. Who will be certain to share all she has with her baby brother....

We've had Elizabeth in the next to me for about 6 weeks now at first she really was too little for it but when she got a bit bigger we just put her in there to save moving the moses basket.

Yeah she is really good at it. At first she was grabbing things accidentally but now it's more determined. The picture was her half roll. The legs are over she just doesn't know what to do with the arms 😂

We're over a week in now, so I think the worst of it is past.

Hindsight is a bitch.... I broke down in tears today. Partly because of the screaming when I was holding him and partly because big sister decided to join the party and go through her 3 year regression at the same time. I got maybe 4 hours sleep. Not bad, except it was in hour blocks with at least an hour between them. So tired. 😴

@Dyra oh gosh sending you all the will in the world! It will pass and hopefully quickly for you! is DH helping? I was thinking of another trip to my mums soon but might wait till that's out the way first

Dyra · 03/07/2022 23:01

TY. ❤

DH has helped a little. In fairness to him, there's not much he can do about Max, and DD prefers me. But when Max woke him up at 4.30, he took over with DD and actually got her to sleep back in her own bed. I think the sobbing took him aback and made him realise he should have stepped in sooner. We were watching the grand prix and Max just wouldn't settle and was endlessly screaming. Once the tears were flowing, DH took him off me and Max immediately turned angelic. I remember the exact same situation happening with DD when she was about this age. DD also stepped up and gave me lots of cuddles so I would feel less sad.

Got everything crossed for a better night tonight. I was planning on starting potty training on Tuesday, but I think it might have to be delayed if we have another bad night.

OP posts:
Dyra · 04/07/2022 12:02

It was a much better night.

I kept waking up every 3 hours like clockwork, but could go back to sleep straight away. I could hear DD stirring and wriggling around each time I was up, but she never woke up. Max had a feed at the 5 and 8am wake ups, but otherwise slept through. Very relieved and much less tired.

I think Max likes playing with his gym more than cuddles. 😢DD loved being held.

OP posts:
Scoaf · 05/07/2022 08:12

Ah @Dyra im glad Max has settled down.
Teddy had an off day yesterday, slept more and wasnt happy when awake so im wondering if hes have a growth spurt.
Just wondering what you all do to keep your LO entertained in the day? X

Dyra · 05/07/2022 13:40

Everything is entertaining to them at this age, not much input required. Max goes on his mat and bats/grabs dangly toys. Or I/DD dangle them for him. Or he goes in the bouncer in the kitchen when I need to cook and bats at his toy bar. Or I cuddle and chat to him. Or he goes in his pram and looks at what he can see of the world when we're walking somewhere. Or he looks at the world/TV in general.

Hope Teddy has a better day today.

How's everyone doing in this heat? Max is pretty miserable. He's got a bit of a cough, and also having runny nappies in the heat (TMI, but he gets that from me). He's napping a lot, and is pretty grouchy when he's awake. Oh and he hates being put down, but gets wriggly when he inevitably gets too hot. I also can't use our garden as it's a sun trap all day and completely paved. And my living room is also south facing with a massive window and is far too small for me, a 4 month old, and a toddler. Just need it to be like... 5-10 degrees cooler.

Sigh....

Caass45 · 13/07/2022 19:46

@Dyra Elizabeth has been a bit gnarly and sleepy but on the whole not too bad. She's had a few fussy times today. I can't tell if she is teething but drooling a lot and shoving everything she can get a hold of into her mouth. Health visitor is back Friday so will see what she says. Our garden gets sun all day at the back but we've got a wee parasol for her.

Has max got past the sleep regression yet?

Dyra · 13/07/2022 21:34

@Caass45 Oooh. I vaguely remember my HV saying Max would have a weigh in at 3-4 months, but I haven't heard anything from them. Max is drooly as well, so I think some teeth are on the move. My family are late/slow teethers, so I don't think any are imminently about to erupt. He's had his fingers pretty much constantly in his mouth since birth I swear.

Is Max past his sleep regression?... It's hard to say. He was still a bit restless, then this heatwave struck. Unfortunately for me he's now waking up every 3-4 hours for a feed again. Hopefully it's just because he's thirsty, and he'll return to his 8 hour solid block once it cools down again. Speaking of feeds, has anyone's milk production gone crazy in the heat? I haven't leaked in weeks, but for the past few nights I've generated rivers down my pyjama top.

We do have a parasol, but with the whole bloody garden being paved, and bordered on 3 sides with brick walls, it's like an oven even in the shade. Plus nowhere I can put him. Ah well. Next year will be better. He might be walking by then, so I can take him and DD to the splash park to run through the jets to cool down.

OP posts:
Caass45 · 14/07/2022 17:10

@Dyra our health visitor seems to be here loads 😅 but Elizabeth did get an extra weigh in due to her reflux. She was last here 17th June so once a month now. She's good and always texts me to arrange next appointment right after the last one. Yes she's always got hands or anything she can get her hands on in her mouth. Everything apart from actual teethers that is 🙄

Hopefully he will settle again. We've started Elizabeth with a dummy for sleeping and when she wakes up we offer it and pretty much every time she falls asleep instantly again. I imagine if she wanted feeding she would stay awake. She sleeps pretty much all night 10pm-9/9.30am and doesn't want feeding which is good. I stopped breastfeeding at 11 weeks so I can't comment on supply.

Ah yes that sounds pretty frustrating. I doubt the good weather will last long it never usually does here in rainy Scotland anyways 😄 I do hear Sunday Monday atleast is supposed to be very hot again

Caass45 · 28/07/2022 17:33

How's everyone getting on ?

Little Ells turned 4 months on Monday then Tuesday worked out how to make the arms work when rolling back to front. Now she's nailed it she won't stop. Every time I put her down on her back she rolls over. Then gets frustrated she can't do anything else. No doubt she will be crawling jn no time 🙈

Thankful that's all her jags done until she's 1. Neither of us enjoyed that!

Didn't realise until a few days ago their soft spots can pulsate. I do not like that 😅

Dyra · 28/07/2022 18:33

Wow! Great job Elizabeth! Max has mastered rolling onto his side (only his right, probably because it's the way I turn him when changing his nappy), but is still stymied by his arms so he can't roll further. However, his efforts cause him to rotate. So he finds up facing a different way, which pleases him greatly. I disliked this frustrated stage with DD. But then it coincided with the first lockdown, so it was all a bit of a shit time anyway.

It just so happened that Max's jabs so happened to be booked on Tuesday 19th July at 2.30pm. Aka the hottest part of the hottest day ever. I didn't rebook as Tuesday was supposed to be the cooler of the two hot days, and he was already delayed on his jabs. It was like stepping out into a sauna, only a little less humid. Thankfully he only needed one dose of Calpol. Very glad it's the last set until he's one.

I love pulsating fontanelles. It's so alien. And hypnotic.

We've had another hospital visit due to bronchiolitis. No stay this time, but urgh. Poor little guy. His breathing has sounded awful for weeks now. The one positive (other than Max's in good health otherwise) is that Max was weighed and we found he was exactly 4kg heavier than he was at birth. Slightly below the 75th centile.

Caass45 · 28/07/2022 20:08

Shes a fast learner. I think shes going to keep me on my toes 😅 aww atleast he's having fun moving about! Ah yes. See the lockdowns weren't so bad for me because I ran a cafe and never got any time off and was constantly surrounded by people so someone telling me I had to stay away from people and stay at home was sadistically blissfull 😅 but down sides too for sure. Would be so hard with a baby!

Oh my goodness Elizabeth was booked for the 20th and I was so grateful to miss those hot days! I'm glad you both did ok.

Oh no they really freak me out 😆

Aww poor wee guy! I hope he feels better soon he just can't catch a break! 75th is good! Can't wait to see what Elizabeth weighs next week. Our HV has been off sick so we haven't had a check up in about 6 weeks.

Anyone else ever have their babies flip out in the car? Elizabeth has done it twice now once at 8 weeks when coming back from my mums which is a long journey so understandable. But last week she did it halfway back from my sisters, 55 minutes away. She was inconsolable. Not sure if it was just too hot but we had the AC on or maybe she just didn't like the fact I had the canopy on qnd she couldn't see as well. It's given me such awful anxiety about taking her in the car alone.

Dyra · 29/07/2022 09:32

Oh no! I don't think we've had an freak outs in the car. But then I am oh so very tired (nothing to do with Max, DH forgets to be quiet and keep the room dark in the morning....), and I'm lucky to remember the events of yesterday at times. But I'm willing to bet it's because of the canopy. Both DD (when she was a baby) and Max get very distressed if their eyesight is in any way compromised.

FX for next week!

OP posts:
Caass45 · 29/07/2022 10:47

I was thinking the canopy might have been the issue she is very nosey and I only out it back on that day because it was so sunny but I think from now on I'll just go without it she has a screen on the window anyway so she shouldn't need it really.

Scoaf · 31/07/2022 16:45

Hi All.
We've had a bit of a rough week.
Teddy had his injections on the Thursday and on sunday he woke up with a cold and really cheaty cough. That coupled with teething and sleep regression its been pretty difficult. He's understandably been really grumpy and unsettled. The last 2 nights he's slept better so hopefully he's coming out the other side.
He has also mastered how to roll and is always facing the other way when i come back to him on the mat 🤣
I kind of feel like when never really go anywhere but then where can you really take a 4 month old? Any ideas?
We go out for a walk every day and through the park etc, and we have been doing baby massage on mondays but thats it really apart from trips to the shops etc.

Dyra · 31/07/2022 17:29

Is there much in the way of toddler groups where you are? Oftentimes there's a baby area you can sit and play, while watching your future running around and shouting. Best port of call will be either Facebook, or your health visitor might have some local suggestions. Libraries, churches, and community centres often have baby groups. NCT run a bumps and babies group. There's a breastfeeding group too, which is really a baby group with added breastfeeding support. Unfortunately at the moment, it being the summer holidays, a lot of these groups aren't currently running. But you can make a list of those you'd like to try.

Failing that, my local cinema used to do child friendly showings of recent releases. Baby sensory is a very popular activity where I am too if you want another class.

OP posts:
Dyra · 31/07/2022 17:33

GJ Teddy btw! Max can roll front to back. But those pesky arms of his still thwart him every time he attempts the other way.
