@SamanthaVimes thank you! Funnily enough someone mentioned this to me today. It's got a free kindle download too. I'm gonna start reading tonight Smile

ChinChilly · 11/02/2022 22:02

@ShellUK09 @paintfairy proceive do trimester specific vitamins but tbh quickly looking at the 1st and 2nd trimester one they look fairly the same, the 2nd one definitely still has folic acid in it. I think they are buy one get one half price at holland and barratt atm. I was taking them but i find they've got a really odd taste and it kept repeating on my so I'm just taking boots pregnancy vitamins for now.

We've just found out we're having a girl, total shocker as we were both convinced it was boy 😂

Lianna93 · 12/02/2022 01:40

Unsure about anywhere else, but in Scotland, our midwives gives us essentially a textbook on all things baby called 'ready, steady, baby'. It covers everything from conception to after the birth & goes through GIRFEC as well.
I'm well versed on child development, GIRFEC & all things play related but taking care of a baby, that's solely my responsibility is a major anxiety for me right now, despite my many years working with Children & all the qualifications that goes with it 🙈😂 Have an online antenatal class in the morning that'll go through baby care - like bathing, cord care, feeding etc... Hoping that'll help ease my anxiety 😬😂

@ShellUK09 My midwife recommended taking my prenatal vitamins all through. In Scotland, we get ours for free from the doctor. They're called 'healthy start vitamins' and they contain Vit C, D & Folic Acid. I also take another dose of folic acid on top of those as prior to me conceiving, I was diagnosed with folate anemia - I've to take that all through my pregnancy but no idea if I just stop once baby is here. I'll need to discuss that with my midwife 😬😂
Vitamin D is definitely important, especially at this time of year, so would recommend taking that for sure but if your diet is well balanced, you should be okay for everything else :)

Completely off topic to what's being discussed recently... Anyone else being kept awake by those baby flutters?! 😩 She's proper using me as a punching bag & the sensation genuinely makes me want to heave 😂😂

Mattieandmummy · 12/02/2022 05:07

@KizboBaggins I would be really surprised if a student sonographer was let loose without supervision as they wouldn't really learn anything that way but if it's making you anxious definitely call and explain. Anxiety is a hideous beast so I completely understand your situation.

@KizboBagginszobobaggins don't worry about the nappies, you'll be changing so many you'll feel like a pro in no time at all.

ShellUK09 · 12/02/2022 07:17

@ChinChilly thank you, will have a look at those vitamins in Holland and Barrett although the ones I'm taking now don't have any adverse effects on me (apart from the price!) so may just stick with them. Lovely to hear you are having a girl, you can start to plan names now 🥰 I have it in my head we are having a girl as I had such bad sickness in the beginning but I could be surprised when we find out next week.

@Lianna93 ah Scotland is the place to live, they do everything better than England right now! I wish we were given a text book here, going to look on Amazon. The online class sounds amazing, which company is that through? It's interesting how people are given different advice on vitamins but surely they can't do any harm to take all the way through, and my diet could be better to be honest. My placenta is at the front so I've not felt very strong movements yet although I've noticed when I am drying my hair the flutters pick up so the baby mustn't like the sound of the hairdryer! I like it when I feel the sensations though as it is reassuring ☺️

KizboBaggins · 12/02/2022 08:21

@ShellUK09 @Lianna93 oo when did you start feeling movement?? I'm almost 17 weeks and the midwife asked me if I'd felt anything but alas nothing yet. I can't wait!

Also @Lianna93 it's kind of nice to know that someone who is well versed in childcare is also nervous!

@Mattieandmummy yes that's what I thought! It was @WotsitMum who was struggling with the prospect of a student sonographer! I wouldn't even know the difference

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 12/02/2022 09:00

@ShellUK09 Scotland also gives every new mum a “baby box” literally stuffed full with everything a new baby needs - clothes and nappies and creams and mittens etc etc

www.scotland.org/about-scotland/scotlands-stories/baby-box

And no, sadly I’m not in Scotland! Grin

Lianna93 · 12/02/2022 09:38

@KizboBaggins @ShellUK09 My placenta is also at the front, I had very minimal sensations around 16 weeks that I wasnt sure if it was her or not but I'm now 19w4d and I'm feeling her a lot more strongly now. Last night she was super active & I got no sleep 😬😂

The antenatal class is through the baby academy :)

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I fill out my form for my baby box in a couple of weeks time, very excited to get it 🙈😂 I'll share a photo when it arrives :)

ShellUK09 · 12/02/2022 09:45

@KizboBaggins only in the last week or so, noticed it more from week 16 but as I say the placenta being at the front acts like a cushion so I only notice the flutter sensation at random times. Usually seems to happen at night when I am lying on my side, or when I've had a glass of cold fresh orange juice. It'll happen soon for you.

@HotToddyColdSauvignon wow that's incredible! Scotland just seems to care a lot more. It's a brilliant initiative.

NamelessBaby1 · 12/02/2022 09:54

@Lianna93 I'm in Scotland too and very grateful for the Ready Steady Baby book; can't believe they don't do that everywhere as I literally wouldn't have a clue without it, lol. It goes right into detail about all the various issues that may arise, and even has information on how to claim extra help payments and whatnot if needed. Find myself referring to it fairly regularly as time goes on.

Can't wait to get the box either, apparently you can colour it in yourself lol.

Re movement I can definitely feel a bit of fluttering late at night, took me a while to realise that's what it was though!

Lianna93 · 12/02/2022 10:35

@NamelessBaby1 I couldn't believe the size of the book when I was given it, I thought it was just gonna be like a wee magazine or something but it's proper detailed. Feel very lucky to be in Scotland.

Haha I definitely know I'll be colouring the box in 🙈 I'm gonna send my box to my in-laws though so my cats don't claim it as their bed 😬😂 Plus it means baby has somewhere to be put down when I'm at theirs!

Mattieandmummy · 12/02/2022 11:01

Oh sorry @KizboBaggins and @WotsitMum we're going through a getting up at 4.30am phase with our three year old and it's an absolute killer.

KizboBaggins · 12/02/2022 12:57

@Mattieandmummy eek that sounds very stressful! And here's me complaining that the dog woke me up at 8am Hmm

annie1994 · 12/02/2022 13:21

@Mattieandmummy I feel your pain, my 17mo is going through the worse sleep regression. Either up for hours in the middle of the night or awake at 4.30/5 😴 so hard especially being pregnant!

NamelessBaby1 · 12/02/2022 16:15

@Lianna93 what a good idea, I should maybe do the same as I was just thinking today how much our cat loves boxes lol; would save them having to get something seperate too which would be handy!

Mattieandmummy · 12/02/2022 16:43

@KizboBaggins @annie1994 tiring veeeery tiring but she's normally a 5.30am girl so we're kind of use to it she said weeping into her decaf tea

KizboBaggins · 12/02/2022 17:33

@Mattieandmummy @annie1994 you're not selling this parenthood thing to me ... sounds exhausting! What have I let myself in forGrin

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 13/02/2022 06:00

Well this is going to be a tmi question Blush but I’ve got no one else to ask (thank god for anonymous Internet forums!)

Is anyone else getting a pain “down there”?! Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, need the loo for example, roll over and it feels like someone has kicked me right in between the legs. Almost like I’m bruised so there’s a sharp “ooof” and then it disappears

Mattieandmummy · 13/02/2022 06:55

Is it a sharp like lightening bolt pain? Could be lightening crotch. I have that plus this dull ache sometimes.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 13/02/2022 07:04

Yes, really brief but sharp. Glad to know it’s a “thing” Grin
KizboBaggins · 13/02/2022 08:18

@HotToddyColdSauvignon someone at work called this "dagger foof" the other day lol. I haven't had it yet thankfully, but it's definitely a thing!

Totallyblue · 13/02/2022 09:26

Heard the heartbeat at my checkup on Friday, was lovely! I started this pregnancy with quite severe prenatal anxiety / depression and couldn't even let myself talk about it, let alone get excited. Second trimester has allowed me to actually feel happy, and I finally genuinely smiled at a checkup!

I have fully started baby buying prep now - three bundles from ebay for the basics, and carriers from Facebook marketplace. Not long to go ladies!

KizboBaggins · 13/02/2022 11:53

@Totallyblue ahh that's amazing! How far along are you now? I don't get to hear the heartbeat until 24 weeks Sad feels a lifetime away! I also haven't started buying anything really yet. You sound much more prepared than me! I feel like I'm subconsciously waiting for the 20 week scan to be given the all clear then I'm gonna start buying!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 13/02/2022 15:26

Aww that’s so nice @Totallyblue Smile glad you’re feeling more positive

Totallyblue · 13/02/2022 16:52

@kizboBaggins I am 17 weeks :) the midwife did the doppler at my 16 week checkup!

I am the type of person who deals with stress by getting prepared so buying early is helping me relax :D

@HotToddyColdSauvignon thank you x
