For the FTMs that haven’t got loads to spend on cots, prams, car seats etc. We got a really good deal on online4baby for our first son. They do bundles of various things for really good prices.
Only thing is they don’t deliver quickly - we had to wait a month or two for it all. So you’d probably need to order in advance!

We are stuck trying to find a decent double pram for not too much money 🤯

namechangeanonymous · 25/01/2022 16:05

I think the lady in mamas and papa saw us first time parents coming from a mile off babies wheels have cost more than my first car 😄

For everyone looking at prams - eBay and Facebook marketplace have loads of recent models, most of the time like new and for half the price. Bonus it’s better for the environment too 😊

namechangeanonymous · 25/01/2022 17:00

Or you could let us (who in my case) has been dreaming of purchasing our prams buy whatever pram we can afford without the need for comments like that. There's not an infinite amount of ebay prams, they have to be new to start with.
Now I might have taken that comment the wrong way for which I apologise but I am fed up of people making people who buy something new sound like bad guys.

Capricorn8990 · 25/01/2022 17:04

@namechangeanonymous ohhh is that what you have purchased love it! I don't think the previous comment was meant in that way at all, just if people wanted something cheaper xx

Lianna93 · 25/01/2022 17:19

@namechangeanonymous I can understand why that may have hit a nerve. All I've heard from my MIL since the day she found out is her saying 'no' to family wanting to get us anything because there are people in our family who have had kids recently & have loads of stuff for us.
I don't mind hand me downs, I really don't. However, I have a real thing about cleanliness and when it comes to buggy's etc... babies are messy. So I want something that's new. However, I'm also really money conscious so everything I've purchased has been affordable & for long term use.
I bought a cotbed rather than getting a next to me crib or a Moses basket because baby can use that until they're about 6 years old and the travel system I'm looking at will last them until they're no longer needing it.

WotsitMum · 25/01/2022 18:13

@HopefulBeth i had the joie chrome travel system with my first and loved it, we got it with the isofix base for the car seat and it was so worth it! Gutted they dont do a propper double travel system! We then moved onto the joie literax when lo was 11 months for a lightweight pushchair that folded one handed.

@AppleTree16 we have just brought our double travel system from facebay seccond hand for 1/4 of the price it would be brand new and its in such good condition! We have all 'big' items from our first still so it was just a double pushchair beeing a 'big' purchase this time. I also think once your on your seccond child you realise not everything needs to be new and seccond hand is just as good. We brought a next to me cot brand new with my first but i would be keeping it for my next baby and my sister has said she wants to use it when she gets round to having annother.

@annie1994 weve gone for the cosatto wow xl, it can be used as a double and a single and has a built in buggy board, we also looked at the icandy orange which is simular.

Also anyone looking for deals on big items i reccomend online4baby and also jolly tots on facebook! Smyths toy store is good for looking at pushchairs/carseats/cribs and the staff are so helpfull!

This
@namechangeanonymous
. Lots of people saying it’s expensive buying new (which it is!) and I just wanted to suggest other routes. Lots of people don’t use Facebook so wouldn’t know about marketplace etc.

ChinChilly · 25/01/2022 19:30

I'm in two minds about the second hand stuff, there is definitely some bargains to be had but also sometimes things don't look as good/clean in real life as they do on the pics, also I feel with it being first baby and with it not being straightforward, MCs etc there is definitely they temptation to buy everything new. I can see both sides @AppleTree16 @namechangeanonymous
I'm sick of people trying to give me hand me downs already, a family member has already offered me a moses basket that they are using for thier newborn atm but it's already been around about 4 families! I don't know how to say no without sounding ungrateful 😕

Lianna93 · 25/01/2022 19:56

@ChinChilly I am feeling the exact same way with hand me downs - a family member is giving us a whole bunch of clothes - probably more than I'll ever need & don't get me wrong, I really appreciate it but it also makes me feel quite sad because this will likely be my only baby & I was so excited to start buying clothes 😞
I can probably still buy stuff but until I know exactly what I'm getting I feel like I can't.

My mum was talking to me about a getting a travel cot & then my dad piped up & said they had one in the left - which belonged to my little brother - who's now in his 20s 😬 Told them I didn't need a travel cot quite yet... 🙈😂

Mads96 · 25/01/2022 19:59

I'm 15+5 today and still nauseous by the evening 😞 does anyone else feel really sick if they eat anything sweet or have dairy?

I need to get a new car seat for the new baby but don't know where to start looking?! Mothercare was still open when I had my daughter and my friend worked there so could recommend me all the car seats suitable but now I'm so confused! I don't want to spend a fortune as I have a swivel 360 car seat the baby can use in the future when DD grows out of it. But I need one with a handle if you know what I mean not one permanently on an isofix base 😊

Mattieandmummy · 25/01/2022 19:59

@HopefulBeth we got a bugaboo fox for our first baby and it's still going strong so we'll be using that again. It folds up fairly well but not super small but if you need an off road beast it is brilliant for that. I also used it as a running buggy when small person was older, you're not meant to but I figured as I was running on a flat path it would be fine.

We had a maxi Cosi pebble car seat for 0-1 but it caused so many tears we had to change to a Cybex 0-4 swivel one which seemed to be less upsetting to the small person. She was a big baby though and I think she just found the maxi cosi too restrictive.

ChinChilly · 25/01/2022 20:06

@Lianna93 oh gosh, the bags of clothes! I'm kind of dreading that because like you say those are the things I want to buy, it's a nice thought from people but sometimes I think they're just trying to clear out thier own houses 🤣 omg the travel cot is hilarious 😂

Lianna93 · 25/01/2022 20:11

@ChinChilly That is exactly what they're trying to do! We literally had one family member out right say that to us 😬😂 My plan is to divi up a lot of things between us & the in laws.

WotsitMum · 25/01/2022 20:30

A tip for the bags of chlothes beeing given, i would say oh thats so lovely of you, we already have lots so we will sort through and pick out bits that we like and pass the rest to a pregnant friend or charity, it seems to go down well. Sil had a baby the week before me but had a big baby and i had a small so my baby was allways a size behind, when her baby grew out of chlothes she would invite me round to pick out bits i liked then she passed the rest to charity, she understood the beeing given lots and lots of chlothes 😂

MrsKirb · 25/01/2022 20:42

I have no issues buying a second hand pushchair if it's clean and the wheels are still decent. I'll buy new beause there are lots of deals with car seats and bases, neither of which I'd have second hand.
I've had offers of hand me downs and I'll just take them, then use anything I want to and donate the rest.
I'm excited to buy things and we do reasonably well as a household but after getting married this year our savings took a big hit and I'm trying to build it back up before I go on maternity leave! So don't mind saving a few quid here and there when I can 😂

CaptainCarp · 25/01/2022 20:47

My friend has sorted out some clothes & bits from her baby. I'll ask her what she wants me to do once they're outgrown i.e. Pass back or onwards.

If there's anything I don't particularly like then I'll either box up or pass on to charity. I think its going be mainly bright coloured sleepsuits & babygros so should be OK.

CaptainCarp · 25/01/2022 20:55

I'm kind of annoyed today because I checked the "jobs in your area" email i get through from indeed & theres a job which sounds just like what i do but 10 miles closer & about £3K more!
Can't afford to lose out on maternity pay & knowing that i have a good chance of getting part-time hours on return if i want as they have set a precedent with others.

So I can't apply for it. Just typical it comes up now! 🙈😂

@AppleTree16 I thought you meant well and got a harsh response from anonymous Blush

I don't mind second hand but DP said no we will buy everything new - we're 35 and 42 y.o., having our first and only child, very excited - so I agreed with him.

But before I met him I considered doing it alone - and would have bought a lot of second hand stuff, and don't think either baby would have been deprived of love or needs.

emmatake2 · 26/01/2022 07:24

Could someone link the Facebook group for me please? I've missed it everytime it's been up so far. Thanks!

MrsCtobe91 · 26/01/2022 08:59

@NamelessBaby1 ahh thank you, I'll definitely have to have a look this weekend. I don't know why i thought i could carry on with my pre pregnancy bras 😂.

I hope you manage to get used to them as i can totally see where you're coming from with the wireless, sounds like we're talking about something technological lol but yeh, heres to feeling all different kinds of shapes throughout our pregnancies 😂. Xx

Effram · 26/01/2022 10:05

Looks like crossed wires to me - hope you're both ok @namechangeanonymous and @AppleTree16 - if anything looked like apple tree was replying to the post before namechange!!

For my tuppence worth, we did a mix. We spent an eyewatering amount on a travel system for my first (my mum wanted to contribute) we got a silver cross pioneer and we are still using it now 3.5 years later and it will see us for no3 too. I used a professional company to get it cleaned in between and would really recommend looking them up if you want to scrub up a pram you had before or if you've bought a second hand one you would like to spruce, they honestly made it like new! But having it did really make it feel exciting as first time parents!

We had to amazon prime a carseat to the hospital when my first was born as he came early and we weren't ready haha!

I didn't buy any clothes myself for my son until he was nearly 1 as we got given soooo many by friends, we were really lucky. We were also lent a Moses basket (which never got used as he was a velcro baby) but I bought a next2me which we used for first two. it's been through the wars now so we are borrowing a snuzpod for no3 as its our final baby, and I'll just get a new mattress.

I remember thinking everyone was so kind and generous with our first and then I discovered its just because you end up with so much stuff, most of it essential but only for a really short period of time so then you want it out of your house to fit in the next short-term essential item haha so you just want to pass it on! e.g. a bouncy chair I couldn't be without... for 3 months. then we needed a bumbo, then a playpen. with clothes I would keep and use the ones I liked and pass on to friends anything else each time/when they grew out. I kept my favourites for the next baby.

@CaptainCarp
that's so annoying but does that give you any leverage to discuss a pay rise where you are, perhaps?

CaptainCarp · 26/01/2022 12:04

@Effram I have already had 2 decent payrises in the last 12 months so may be pushing it asking for a 3rd.
The job i found is higher paid than any other I've seen in the area so think I'd need a couple more to have leverage for another pay rise.

Heya all, hope everyone is feeling good!

I got some sad news yesterday that my dad has Alzheimer's in addition to his vascular dementia 😞 I didn't get too upset at first as my mum was crying so was being strong for her, but it's definitely settling in a bit more now..

On a positive note, I called the scan department and my 20 week scan is on Valentine's Day! My 12 week was on Christmas Eve, so feeling very excited about it.

Found out we're having a baby girl with a private scan and got my lovely parents to pop the balloon and caught the moment on video which I will forever cherish.

Love to everyone x

Capricorn8990 · 26/01/2022 12:08

@CaptainCarp could you apply for the new one you've seen and discuss the circumstances and see if they could start you after your maternity? I know it's a lot to ask but if they like you they may be willing to wait x
