I always wanted a planned c section but now I've done a 360 and want a natural for a quicker recovery. I'm conscious of traumatic birth too so my plan currently is to go for an epidural + natural. It's quite hard to decide isn't it.

Thanks @Capricorn8990 I ended up texting OB at 6pm Blush he called and said if pains are coming and going and not consistent pains then he's not concerned. Hope he doesn't think I'm a drama Queen

MrsKirb · 24/01/2022 10:38

I love the idea of giving birth vaginally and possibly being home later that day, especially if covid restrictions are still around! I just worry that I'll end up needing a section and having a far worse time overall than if it was just planned!
I know the recovery can be awful and it has its own risks but everyone I know who's had an emergency csection has said how much they want a planned one in future, just to avoid the stress!

Effram · 24/01/2022 10:50

@Capricorn8990 congratulations on your daughter!! how lovely.

I hope everyone had good weekends! My husband was away (we try to give each other a couple of weekends 'off' a year and it was his turn!) so I am quite tired after being just me with the two boys but it was also very lovely. Just enjoying a coffee and slow start before I crack onto work now.

To everyone discussing birth options - I would really recommend The Positive Birth Book, and How to Make Birth Better. They discuss all options - vaginal, home, hospital, caesarean - and it can be so empowering to be informed.

It is completely your right to request a c-section, they can't deny it. In fact with everything in pregnancy/birth it's good to remember it is not up to medical staff to 'let' or 'allow' you to do anything. They should be advising and recommending but ultimately it's your choice. I think everyone should be entitled to the support and facilitation they need to have the birth they want!

@strawberrysummer19 you're also definitely right that there is a higher chance of requiring a c-section after induction. I had a wonderful home birth which I am hoping and planning for again, but if for any reason induction was advised I would definitely consider going straight to c-section personally because there is also increased risk of lots of intervention before you get to the section with induction!

I have been feeling movements every day for about 3-4 weeks now (I'm 18 weeks today) and the last two nights in bed I've actually felt them with my hand on the outside which is so exciting! My 3 year old is really excited to feel his little brother/sister so looking forward to them getting stronger so he can soon

Candlesoftime · 24/01/2022 11:16

Hello everyone, this is my first comment on this thread, I thought I'd join as I'm due 4th of July 🙂 It's interesting to see a few others considering elective caesareans like me. I spoke to a consultant and they said it's my choice (but not booked in just yet). I've only mentioned it to one open minded friend for fear of the "looking at you like you have two heads" people have said about!

Hope you're all doing really well and healthily Smile

Capricorn8990 · 24/01/2022 11:25

@Andariego good idea! To be fair I need to take a leaf out of your book as I spend far too much time on social media scrolling and I love a bit of tik Tok 🤣.

@laurenGame it's always best to check than not so don't worry about them thinking you're a drama queen, I expect they think you're a caring mumma! Xx

Capricorn8990 · 24/01/2022 11:28

@Effram thank you! I've had 3 dreams about her now. I just had an instinct. It's amazing!

I had a very busy weekend and I'm working late shifts for 3 days with 2 rest day.. followed by 5 earlies, didn't realise how tough it would be to be pregnant and learning a new role which is very demanding. However I did pass my exam so am pleased.

Love that you give yourselves weekends off, true partnership there. I'm gonna take a look at those books as I've ordered a couple but feel a bit overwhelmed when reading them so need to be in the right headspace.

I didn't know that you can ask for a c section! I thought it was for emergencies or complications. Thanks for the information x

Capricorn8990 · 24/01/2022 11:29

Welcome @Candlesoftime ❤️ is this your first pregnancy?

ChinChilly · 24/01/2022 11:30

@Andariego 👋 Hi, it's nice there is a few of us on here from the same area! Also guilty of spending too much time on social media, especially when I should be working from home 😅

On the topic of births, I'm hoping for a vaginal birth as the thought of a c-section scares the life out of me but if that's what needs to be done on the day so be it.

I had a really good week with my sickness but it seems to be back 😭 seriously fed up of vomitting!

bonnieb9 · 24/01/2022 13:48

This has totally reassured me!

I am higher BMI too and think that an elective caesarean will put me at ease as I keep catastrophising worst case scenarios.

I'm due early July but my anomaly scan isn't till the end of feb - everything seems to be running a little late in Scotland.

Good to hear from people in similar situation

strawberrysummer19 · 24/01/2022 15:13

@laurenGame that was my plan first time but unfortunately it took months of healing and I didn't feel normal again for 6 months due to internal tearing and scaring so I don't even think you can decide as easy as natural vaginal vs cesarean so I lost wanted to add my experience

I had retained placenta which was why but that can happen again apparently so that's why I'm thinking c section

Don't think anyone opting for a natural vaginal birth thinks they would rather opt for interventions it just some times can't be avoided
X

annie1994 · 24/01/2022 15:30

I’m considering an elective caesarean as I had a traumatic first labour but I’m not sure how easy it is to get if it’s mainly mental health/ trauma and not an actual physical need. I feel like I will end up doing a vaginal delivery with this baby but not sure that’s 100% what I want.

Anyone still being sick? I’m still sick every morning and I’m 17+5… when will this end!?

Hope3821 · 24/01/2022 15:59

Hi All,

Been a while since I posted. 14+3 today. Nausea and tiredness pretty much gone, except for the odd snooze collapse after dinner some nights. Random hunger pangs too. Too early to feel movement so all I have are slightly sore breasts. It's really weird not to 'feel' or look pregnant, can't wait till my next scan (at 20 weeks) to see everything is OK.

Meeting my homebirth midwife this Friday to get all booked in. So excited to get into her care.

Any experienced mum's know if trying to fit in driving lessons and test before I get too big would be a good idea? Should I just wait till after the birth and recovery? I can walk to my gps and family can drive me to emergency, but I'm worried I'll need to be able to drive as soon as.

Andariego · 24/01/2022 16:31

@Hope3821 I did all my driving lessons and passed my test whilst pregnant, it was fine. Only issue was feeling tired after work and dreading the lessons a bit but once I was behind the wheel I was really alert. I think it would have been really difficult to fit in after the birth for me, life is generally easier to organise without a baby and it’s just one less thing to feel overwhelmed about.

Mads96 · 24/01/2022 16:47

I had my first baby via elective Caesarean section due to anxiety and depression. They aren't allowed to say no, they will try and push you for a natural birth but if anyone wants an elective due to mental health or trauma stand your ground 💗

As long as our babies get here safely is all that matter 😍

I've booked my lessons, not sure if I'll be able to pass a test before the due date but I'll do my best. Best of luck to you if you decide to go for it!

Lots of west Midlands mums to be... anybody in Nottingham?
We're finding out the gender on Saturday, I am so excited. I've been convinced it's a boy the entire time until the last couple of days when I have been wondering for no real reason if baby is a girl. Truthfully I don't care that much.

I've been having a few discomforts today I wouldn't say pain but as a nervous FTM every little discomfort gets built up so much.

15weeks 3 today here.

namechangeanonymous · 24/01/2022 18:10

@Mads96 thank you for sharing that that's very interesting indeed. I have a condition called vagimus and (TMI time) even sex is somewhat difficult so the idea of a long drawn out labour is too much for me.

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 24/01/2022 19:32

Hi everyone congratulations to you all… first time posting here have been lurking but been a bit shy to post but 16+3 today with third baby due the 8th of July (my youngest’s birthday).
I’ve had both an emergency c section (1st baby)due to eclampsia- had blood transfusions after due to lots of blood loss, I had a VBAC vaginal birth (second baby) where I needed to be cut but planning to try vaginal birth again this time round. I am a high risk due to eclampsia with the first- took aspirin last time and on aspirin this time round so far all going well 🤞🏻 I have my 20 week scan on the 19th of feb but won’t be finding out the gender- it’s gonna take some will power 🤣

WotsitMum · 24/01/2022 19:43

We brought our double pushchair this weekend, we went for the cosatto wow xl, im in love with it! We got it seccond hand in such a good condition for a very good price with added extras!

I think we have also decided on a unisex name this evening! Marley or Marlee, cant decide on how to spell it. Weird as we decided on our first babys name at arround 16 weeks too!

16 week midwife appt tomorow, will be my first midwife appt!

Im also concidering an elective c-section, my first was an emergency c-section, my mum is very against it🙄 thinks i should try for a natural birth for a easier recovery.

WotsitMum · 24/01/2022 19:46

@Fizzybubblegumbottles out of curiosity what were the birth weights of your first and seccond babies? Im on asprin due to my first had a unexplained low birth weight so wondering if it makes much of a diffence?

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 24/01/2022 20:00

@WotsitMum my first was 6.8 born at 39+3 and 2nd 7.12 born at 40+3.

laurenGame · 24/01/2022 20:21

@strawberrysummer19 yes I've been debating for weeks and weeks on the topic. There is a good chance that I'll end up with either complications from natural birth, or emergency CS which is just not nice.

I've been weighing in the risks and probabilities and decided to opt for natural although I am dreading complications 🙈. From memory there's about 40% risk of tears, but a much smaller chance to end up with complications that require 6 months recovery.
If only I knew the answer whether it'll be a straightforward natural or not. Otherwise taking a bit of a gamble Grin

Mattieandmummy · 24/01/2022 20:38

This is exactly me, if only I knew which way it could go naturally. If I knew for definite it would be ok I'd probably be brave enough to go vaginal.

Andariego · 24/01/2022 20:52

Ah I’m sure you’ll do fine @MollyRover, good luck!
Also good luck to @Hope3821 if you decide to go ahead with it Smile

If anyone is on the look out for some maternity jeans I tried on loads of different styles from various brands over the weekend and these were the best ones by far:

www.asos.com/prd/200346111?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

I’m wearing them already at 14 weeks (so comfy!) but they’ve definitely got enough room to last the whole pregnancy and the jean waistband that sits below the bump isn’t too tight like others I tried.
