Hi all
I could see the other thread only had a few posts left so thought I'd do a new thread before i missed the chance like last time & we lost people 🙈

@CaptainCarp

Just found out my 20 week scan is 18th feb too *@crazyhairbear*

We won't be finding out the sex as I want a surprise & so i don't get really "gendered" clothes off people.
I've already got a mix of peter rabbit, dinosaurs & jungle themed sleep suits/ babygros.

Yes I'm the same as you with regards to gendered clothes, everyone in RL seems to think I'm crazy for not finding out but I like the idea of a surprise and that not everything we own will be either pink or blue!
missv556 · 19/01/2022 12:59

Has anyone got any other ideas to prevent puking during teeth brushing? I tried a kids toothbrush, kids toothpaste, not brushing my tongue. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, some days I'm fine. Other days (like just now) I puke my guts up. I had no sickness at all during first trimester funnily enough. Then 12 weeks hit, I puke every couple of days exclusively from brushing my teeth

Effram · 19/01/2022 13:03

@crazyhairbearand and @CaptainCarp This is actually a big reason I don't like to find out - I love the surprise, but not knowing definitely limits the amount of blue and pink you get bought, I think! Mind you I have 2 boys now so whatever this baby is it will be wearing a lot of dungarees and dinosaurs. Why are all boys clothes covered in dinosaurs?! It really annoys me. Anyway - frugi is good for bright coloured unisex clothes!

My scan is 5th Feb so not far off now!

It definitely is an anxious time, once you start to feel baby moving regularly it alleviates a bit I think. @literallymotherhood the midwife definitely wouldn't have said she heard it if not sure. Their protocol is to send for a scan if there is any doubt, this is why they often don't listen in early on because it'\s quite normal NOT to find it when baby is tiny if it's hiding at the back so then they have to send you to EPU. Maybe it's worth to speak to midwife to confirm, and ask for a referral to perinatal mental health team? A few of my friends have found it really helpful for anxiety. You get better continuity of care and more frequent appts. @Capricorn8990 I'm glad you're on the waiting list. I don't have OCD but I did suffer terribly with health anxiety a few years ago, luckily for me before I was ever pregnant. I understand the short term relief that any medical response brings, but the doubts come straight back in! I think you need to do what makes you feel best, I just think maybe its' worth discussing with someone because £400 is a lot of money if it tells you what you already know and then you still feel anxious a few days later? CBT was really, really effective for me, but it was combined with psychotherapy too. I would speak to midwife and say you're struggling to ask if you can be considered for cancellations before 22nd feb?

@laurenGame I can recommend caring for 2 under 3s and having a lot of time pressures at work to make the time pass quicker! Maybe a journal would help, to document things then you'll see how things are changing even when you feel they're not?

I did realbirthproject.com online hypnobirthing course, it came with a workbook then loads of short video clips that my husband and I watched one an evening off (they're like 5-10 mins). I listened to the relaxation tracks every day as I fell asleep. I think a lot of hypnobirthing is just really empowering you to really understand what happens physiologically during birth, like what contractions are actually doing etc. Then the breathing helps you relax the muscles and exert some control over the process. but I'd recommend it, I'm going to revisit the workbook and tracks from last time.

Just had my 16 week appt, heart rate 151... so still a girl, apparently ;)

We didn’t find out the sex for exact same reason with DD, I didn’t want loads of gendered clothes as gifts.

I think we’ll find out this time but partly to help explain it to DD, partly to see if we need to keep thinking about boy names (we have a girl name picked already but both struggling with boy names!) Our boy option from last time is too similar to DDs name so wouldn’t work. Think Daniel and Danielle (not the real names but same effect)

literallymotherhood · 19/01/2022 13:49

Thanks so much @Effram! I didn't actually know that's what happens if they don't find a heartbeat. I've also not been told about the perinatal mental health team either, so thanks very much! Definitely going to enquire about that.

Lianna93 · 19/01/2022 14:59

I was getting ready for bed last night when I noticed my skin seems to have darkened - thought I was tripping, so I asked DH if I looked darker & he confirmed.
I genuinely look like I've been tanning... I'm a paler than pale normally 😂

CaptainCarp · 19/01/2022 15:57

@crazyhairbear @Effram @SamanthaVimes
From SDC boys clothes seem to be covered in diggers & dinosaurs unless you by the trademark 1s for pokemon/paw patrol etc.
I think it's easier to dress a girl in boys clothes than it is the other way which is a shame in some ways. Although SDC (now 7) has had a few pink / purple t-shirts & jumpers.

I brought some nice bright coloured clothes & some with foxes on from poundland the other day. Even better when i got to the till the sleep suits were half price so only £2 for 2 sleepsuits.

I think its been about 50/50 with people i know that have been pregnant as to whether they find out the sex or not.
A couple who did find out have very stereotypical views but others just wanted to know.

We've not even started thinking about names!

Happy to report that all was good at scan
Measuring exactly 13+1
NT measurement 1.8 which she said was in normal range
Had bloods now just waiting on results which she said would be 7 days x

Mattieandmummy · 19/01/2022 18:35

I can't wait to find out whether boy / girl but I am very impatient. With our first we found out and just didn't tell anyone we knew which worked really well. Not however looking forward to the nagging from my Dad in particular over what name we have chosen, in the end we just told him totally stupid names that you would never pick - think Rocket Cherry Scent and similar just to end the conversation.

ChinChilly · 19/01/2022 18:50

@Lianna93 I wish i was having that side effect, I'm so pale I'm see through 🤣🤣

On the subject on finding out the sex, We're definitely going to find out... we're both dying to know I'm going to wait until about 17-18 weeks though seen as every scan we've had little one is pretty uncooperative!

I've had terrible toothache the last few days, I think my wisdom tooth is having a push through and pushing on my other teeth but my dentist has no appointments until March, I'd normally kill this sort of pain with ibuprofen so paracetamol isn't cutting it 😩

CaptainCarp · 19/01/2022 18:55

@ChinChilly would aspirin help? Might be worth checking with a pharmacist or giving your docs a quick ring to see if you can take it... I'm on a 150mg dose everyday from the consultant.

Also not sure if you can use clove oil when pregnant? That is meant to be great for toothache.
I feel for you. I think toothache is 1 of the worst pains ever & I've had multiple broken ribs.

OP posts:
ChinChilly · 19/01/2022 19:18

@CaptainCarp I think I'll give the GP a quick ring tomorrow and ask, the last GP I spoke to about something else said pharmacists tend to just always say no to everything 🤣 I think I'll call the dentist again and ask them to let me know of any cancellations.
Somebody at work mentioned clove oil, I'll have a look and see what's recommended for that. Toothache has got to be one of the most irritating pains, it's calmed down abit since the weekend over the weekend it was giving me a migrane.

AppleTree16 · 19/01/2022 19:23

@Lianna93

You do need to careful - with the hormonal changes you are more prone to burning and if you get melasma patches they are very difficult to get rid of. I’ve been wearing sunscreen throughout winter as I’m fair anyway.
Lianna93 · 19/01/2022 19:38

@AppleTree16 No worries for me burning currently, I haven't left the house since the weekend due to feeling so crappy 😩
But will definitely keep that in mind, especially more so coming into the warmer months - I'm awful at remembering suncream unless I'm actively going away abroad.

Phoning my gp tomorrow as I'm definitely dehydrated & no amount of water or lucozade sports seems to be helping at all.
I haven't pee'd since first thing this morning despite having consumed over a litre in liquid 😬😬😬

Supposed to have my gender scan on Saturday but may look to reschedule. DH is absolutely desperate to know gender, whereas I don't mind :)

missv556 · 20/01/2022 07:32

There's no way I could wait until birth to find out the gender. It's killing me having to wait a few more weeks let alone until July. I'm just eager to know everything I can about my alien. Then I can pick a name and start calling him/her by it. But will still affectionately nicknamed alien lol

AppleTree16 · 20/01/2022 07:49

@Lianna93 I hope the GP can help with some anti sickness meds. I’d go to a walk in centre if dehydration gets any worse 😢

ChinChilly · 20/01/2022 08:08

@Lianna93 might be worth giving your maternity unit a ring, I've been told by a lot of people about their own GP being a pain dishing out the anti sickness meds, but they've managed to get the good stuff from the hospital, my GP wouldn't give me anything but cyclizine and they're not great. If you're dehydrated I guess the hospital will want to see you to get some fluids in you.

Lianna93 · 20/01/2022 10:33

@ChinChilly That's exactly the meds I've been prescribed.
They're great in terms of stopping the nausea. I've been taking them since Sunday & I've managed to keep everything down but they cause me extreme exhaustion.

@AppleTree16 I've contacted my GP but it's an online system so may not hear back any time soon so agreed with DH that if I haven't heard anything by the time he's finished work, then we'll contact 111 and seek their medical advice.

I haven't been to work since Saturday morning which is very out of character for me, I'm usually the type of person who will still work even when I feel like I'm dying a death 😬😂
I've asked my GP if I can be signed off work because it would be highly irresponsible of me to get behind the wheel of my car right now & I can't get to work without my car. My work can also be high risk at times, so having me there could pose a risk to not only myself but to my service users.
This would be the first time ever I'd be signed off work but I'm now no longer just thinking of myself - I need to make sure I'm doing the best I can for my wee baba.

ChinChilly · 20/01/2022 12:53

@Lianna93 it made me feel exactly the same, that drowsy feeling did wear off after a couple weeks of taking it. I think it only stopped me being sick because I was asleep all the time 🤣 hope your GP got back to you!

Lianna93 · 20/01/2022 13:34

@ChinChilly Haven't heard anything from them yet. However, progress! Took my tablet this morning & haven't had to sleep yet 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Normally I'm out cold within half an hour of taking it. Praying this is a step in the right direction!

Coco9910 · 20/01/2022 13:58

I had my 16 week appointment booked in with the midwife last week for when I will be 15+6 (2nd February) and it’s written on my paperwork. But I checked my NHS app and it says the appointment is 9th March when I will be 19+6. I contacted the doctors to double check and they said it’s on the 9th March. I’m going to try and contact my midwife as she is the one who wrote it on my paper work, but what happens at the 16 week appointment? I don’t want to wait until almost 20 weeks for it if I don’t need to 😩 I’m supposed to be having my whooping cough vaccine that day and also she said she will try to listen to the baby’s heart beat, so hoping I can have it at the start of Feb.

SamanthaVimes · 20/01/2022 14:28

@Coco9910 definitely speak to the midwife, I think the GP practices can be a bit rubbish about info around midwife appointments.

I had my 16 week appointment today (although am only 15 weeks) and was just poked full of holes for a blood test (checking foetal blood group as I’m rhesus negative)

The midwives in my area don’t listen for heartbeats routinely so very jealous of those of you where they will do it!

MrsKirb · 20/01/2022 14:35

We have a gender scan booked for next week and I'm so excited and nervous. No idea what it'll be but hope baby is cooperative.

Effram · 20/01/2022 14:42

@Coco9910 is the appt in the app Def midwife and not 20 week scan? My scan appts come from hospital and midwife appts from midwives directly, and the hospital often seem unaware of any others!

@SamanthaVimes I'm jealous you're in an area where they check foetal blood type, they don't do that here yet so I have to have anti d every time just in case...

They did heartbeat at my 16 week appt but that's first time in 3 pregnancies they have, normally it's from 24 weeks only.

Lianna93 · 20/01/2022 14:56

@Coco9910 My 16 week appointment was just a phone call. Just went over how I was feeling & that all my blood work from previous appointments were fine.
My next appointment is at 22 weeks, where she'll measure me, listen to baby's heartbeat (hoping I also get to hear it 🤞🏻) whooping cough vaccine, blood work, register for my baby box & I'll get my maternity paperwork for work. That's happening at the start of March. Have my 20 week scan 15th February.
Seems like the appointments are all done differently depending on where you are.
