Gosh I couldn't find this thread- so just place marking!

Unarosaes · 05/01/2022 09:19

OMG thread 6 already!!

@Rolledthedice @czycoup we're due date triplets Grin

Has anyone started feeling the baby yet? I am only 17 weeks and have anterior placenta, but I was sitting on the couch yesterday when I felt like super light bubbles in my lower belly. First I thought it was gas, but then I remembered people compare quickening with bubbles or butterflies and that's exactly what it felt like. I don't know if it was real or just my despair to feel pregnant now that the nasty first trimester symptoms seem to nearly have gone away (finally)

czycoup · 05/01/2022 09:24

@Unarosaes yeah that's how I felt with my first. Is this your first?

Yesterday I was sitting on the sofa and felt strong movements. I'm doubting myself though because they felt so strong and quite high up. It really felt like movements though and I can't think what else it was. It was more than bubbling. I also felt other movements and one this morning but I have to really concentrate to feel them.

I'm so anxious about something happening to the baby that I've started using the Doppler most nights - I need to get a grip I think!

Imhereforthecake · 05/01/2022 09:39

Is anyone else due 19th June?

Anyone else feeling a bit ... flat? I'm putting it down to hormones but god I feel rubbish.

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 09:58

@Vimto1991- I survived on cheese Doritos and Coca Cola for the first trimester of my last pregnancy. Trust me, the baby leaches the vitamins they need out of you extremely efficiently. If your diet is crap, you might suffer a little but the baby won’t. Prenatal vitamins can be helpful, though.

And I did reusable nappies for those of you interested. Our bins are only collected once a fortnight, so I was grossed out by the thought of a big bin of rotting nappies in the height of summer. It’s a bit more effort and initial investment but quickly pays for itself and you find a rhythm. I also preferred having natural fibres around my sons genitals rather than all those ‘whicking’ chemicals. Nursery were fine with using reusable too. We provided them with an adequate number of clean nappies and a wet bag in the morning and they handed back the wet bag full of dirties at pick up. No problem. Most nurseries have seen this stuff before. We used Bambinomio nappies from about week two and would recommend them. But there are all sorts of different types depending on what best suits your baby’s shape, and it’s actually better to buy second hand as they’re often more absorbent than new ones. Look out for nappy libraries and there are lots of useful Facebook groups.

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 09:59

Urgh. The constant gagging has finally come to an end, thank God, but now I have this thing where it’s like I’ve had my stomach stapled. I’m hungry, so I eat (taste buds still weird, though), and I think I can eat a certain amount, but without warning I’m full sooner than expected and will end up throwing up at least the last few bites but sometimes the whole meal. It’s so very attractive! Anyone else getting this? I don’t remember this from last time…

Vimto1991 · 05/01/2022 10:03

@ALHCTPS thanks for that! Makes me feel better, was feeling like a terrible mom. 😫

Interesting to see reusable nappies mentioned, I’m really keen to try but not sure if I should start for the first few months cause of how much poop a newborn produces and how fast they may grow out of them. 🙈 I’ll take a look at the brand you mentioned!!

Also just to say to the above about baby movements - I’ve been feeling what I thought was quickening for a few weeks now! I’ve not had it before, so I thought I could tell if it was wind. This week they’re getting much stronger. I saw my stomach move but I know the baby is tiny still, it was just a quick little almost muscle spasm in my lower stomach. It’s got me all excited to feel them move anyway!

Imhereforthecake · 05/01/2022 10:04

@ALHCTPS yes to this! Although not throwing up I'm definitely getting uncomfortably full out of nowhere and then feel so nauseous.
Even with drinks!

jennixxx · 05/01/2022 10:06

@Unarosaes yes! i have anterior placenta and im 17 weeks too, last night i was feeling fluttering and bubble sensations, i was wondering if it could be baby aswell.

unknownscot · 05/01/2022 10:09

For the past two days I have had the itchiest boobs in the world! Anyone else? 😂

Looking forward to my consultant appointment next week so I can ask about my birth plan. I had been told that nhs Glasgow don't let ivf pregnancies go past 38 weeks so keen to know if that's true and what the process is with my heart condition etc

X

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 10:11

@Vimto1991- newborn poo, aside from the initial tar-like stuff is relatively innocuous when they’re only consuming milk. Quite liquid, like a smear of mustard. Yes, the blow outs when it goes all up their back are quite something, but it’s all par for the course. It’s once they start on solids that things get gnarly…

One thing that can make the transition easier is to start with disposables and then introduce one reusable a day and build from there. You don’t have to go all in immediately.

To begin with, we invested in a sealable bucket, 20 Bambinomio nappies and a set of Cheeky Wipes. In fact, I recommend Cheeky Wipes or equivalent whether you use reusable nappies or not. They’re essentially small bits of flannel. A million times better than disposable wet wipes that just smear the poo about and are an environmental nightmare.

Another useful post i came across today

@alhctps in my culture we use running water to wash poo for babies. Pee can be cleaned with wipes but poo is always with water. Much easiar , faster, cheaper and less chances of getting nappy rash.

OP posts:
ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 10:16

@Vimto1991- I think we got the Bambinomio starter set and it covered everything we needed, aside from wipes. I did buy more nappies later, so we had 30 in total, but that was so I only needed to do a nappy wash once a week. The starter kit was perfectly adequate if you’re happy doing a wash every three days. Five nappies a day is about right and enough for three days gives you time to wash and dry. It’s useful to have boosters (extra padding) for nights once they start sleeping through too. But I know some people who used reusable during the day but stuck with disposable at night. You don’t have to be purist - every reusable you use is one less nappy in landfill. We always used disposable on holidays.

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 10:19

@MrsNT - what culture is that? Eminently sensible! My husband would dearly love one of those squirty hoses you get attached to toilets in the Middle East. And bidets are so civilised. To this day, we still use the moistened Cheeky Wipes flannels to wipe the four-year-old’s bum after he’s been to the loo at home. So much cleaner and fresher, as he’s rather bath resistant.

Vimto1991 · 05/01/2022 10:21

Thanks guys!! Will check out that starter kit, very keen on not using disposables, bin already gets full as it is. 😂

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 10:24

@Vimto1991- my husband got a bit geeky and did the sums and worked out the £200 or so start up costs (much cheaper if you go with second hand but we were nervous as we knew no one who’d for reusable) were recouped within about six months of not buying disposables. It’s often the way with more environmental choices - more expensive up front but you save in the long run.

MrsNT · 05/01/2022 10:26

@alhctps we have the squirty hose things. They are called bidet shower or bum shower aswell. You will find them Im of South Asian ethnicity but washing with water is what middle eastern do aswell. I think even in some European countries they have it .
Regards to washing baby poo with water, Unless travelling in car or plane etc where water is not available then we would use wipes. Even when we have guests over for like lunch dinner etc with little babies and if they do a poo they will take them straight up to the bathroom and wash the bum quickly with water, dry with muslin and then put nappy on. Its considered the norm.

Oh, and @Vimto1991, most reusable nappies grow with the child. The ones we had had poppers that you moved as the baby got bigger. The same nappies took us from newborn to toilet training at 2 1/2.

MrsNT · 05/01/2022 10:27

Sorry my msg above ended in a weird typo. Im of south asian ethnicity

@MrsNT - loo roll really isn’t very good at the job it’s intended for, is it?

MrsNT · 05/01/2022 10:36

@alhctps tmi warning but we have always always since little used water for ourselves and then used loo roll to dry . Moving to the uk with no bidet showers in any toilets was a major challenge but then we improvised. If you ever see a plastic teapot shaped type thing in a bathroom in UK..thats what it is for 😂 thats the simple version of the fancy bidet showers.

On the subject of poo 💩, I watched a film called the change up at the weekend (would blame my terrible taste in films on pregnancy hormones but my choices have always been questionable, although Ryan Reynolds is in this one so a very pretty face to watch when the plot is somewhat questionable Smile)

Anyhow, this scene made me chuckle, especially when it goes in the mouth 🤮.

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 10:42

@czycoup - please be careful using a Doppler. They can both give false reassurance, in that you may think everything is fine when it isn’t (the heartbeat you hear may often be yours not the baby’s), and also panic you unnecessarily. Even trained professionals can struggle to get a clear result depending on what the baby is up to.

ALHCTPS · 05/01/2022 10:44

@MrsNT - that’s a genius workaround! My husband and I are increasingly tempted to use our son’s Cheeky Wipes…
