Ahh congratulations. How have you been doing? I’m learning so much! When is your 20 week scan. Have mine on 24 Jan. don’t know about you, it didn’t feel real then felt real at the 12 week scan but that feels so long ago it almost doesn’t feel real again and the anxiety is kicking in leading up to the next one!

czycoup · 04/01/2022 19:10

@Rolledthedice I found my due date twin! 👋🏻👋🏻

Rolledthedice · 04/01/2022 19:16

@DaisyB2022 I’m similar to you, learning so much as I go! My 20 week scan is Jan 26th, but I cheated and had a private 16 week scan at the weekend so I could confirm the sex (it’s a girl).

How has your pregnancy been so far? I hope it’s been uneventful as that definitely helps keep anxiety away. I feel quite calm in general, other than when I find an unfamiliar term and google it, which I advise against doing. 😉 I’ve been reading Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth which I find soothing and it fits with my holistic approach to health and what women’s bodies and minds are capable of doing. I never imagined being a mum, so just trying to trust the process and go with it as much as possible.

Rolledthedice · 04/01/2022 19:20

@czycoup aww that’s fab! Lovely to find a due date twin on here 💜

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 19:26

The list was very long and detailed, but there are the essentials:

  • somewhere for the baby to sleep at night
  • Somewhere for the baby to sleep in the day
  • Waterproof mattress protectors for both (very helpful for us with leaks and vomit)
  • Spare sheets for both - we found about 3-4 sheets was right, but our daughter vomited a lot
  • Blankets and/or sleeping bags - we used sleeping bags for sleeping and just one blanket for the pram or car seat if it was cold
  • Bouncer
  • Baby mat gym
  • Changing mat - we also had a travel mat we used upstairs for middle of the night changes which was really helpful
  • Nappies - good to have some size one and two if using disposable
  • Nappy rash cream - Sudocrem worked for regular changes and yellow metanium is great for nappy rashes
  • Baby nail clippers or scissors - their nails get really sharp - I found clippers easier and less scary
  • Cotton wool - some hospitals require it instead of wet wipes; large cotton make up remover disks are the easiest to use
  • Wet wipes - reusable or disposable
  • Kitchen roll! Really helpful for accidental pees during changing
  • Baby bath - we found a more moulded one like a shnuggle bath was very helpful for not dropping her in!
  • Hooded towels - though frankly you can use any clean hand towels you have!
  • Muslins for wiping vomits and the like
  • Vests - mix of long and short sleeve
  • Sleep suits
  • Hats - one or two will be needed when they’re just born
  • A cardigan or two - maybe less necessary for summer
  • A steriliser - a microwave one is easy and cheap
  • Bottles of planning on formula feeding or combi feeding - our daughter was a bottle refuser, but we had a couple as reserve
  • Pram/ car seat/ travel system - if buying separately it can be useful to get pram/car seat connectors
  • Mirror for the car of you want to sit in the front
  • Nipple cream and breast pads if planning on breastfeeding- I thought reusable were more comfortable
  • Vitamin D drops - all babies should have them from birth
  • Sling and/or structured baby carrier
  • Bath thermometer-some double up as room thermometer too
  • If budget permits, a room thermometer like a gro egg can be helpful
  • Baby monitor

Some also buy/like the following:

  • Infacol - some people swear by it, sadly it didn’t help us
  • scratch mitts - we didn’t use them
  • Socks - we used sleep suits so no need, but might be useful in the summer
  • Booties - didn’t use
  • White noise machine - works for some, didn’t work for us; there are good mobile phone apps for that anyway
  • Swaddles - if you’re not sure if you want to use them, you can buy large muslins that can double up as swaddles
  • Baby lotions and soaps - still have all the ones we were gifted!
  • Top and tail bowl - any clean bowl does the job!
  • Soft hair brush - if your baby has hair!
  • Changing table - we had an attachment to our daughter’s chest of drawers instead, but you can just as well kneel on the floor or in front of a bed to change them (my physio recommended the latter)
  • Feeding chair - any comfortable seat does the trick
  • Changing bag - we did have one, but putting a travel changing mat in any backpack or large bag would also do the job
I think that’s it, but I’ll add anything else that comes to mind!
EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 19:27

@MrsNT ha ha, good luck! You can always ask him if he volunteers to carry the chicco around for you all day!

Clueless22 · 04/01/2022 19:33

@MrsNT thanks for adding me and setting up the new thread, we are a chatty lot we are Smile

@EarlGreywithLemon thanks for the list, it's really helpful as I've no idea what I'm doing!

@DaisyB2022 how your feeling is exactly how I am feeling. It doesn't feel again and my confidence that I gained after the 12 week scan slowly disappeared. Have my 20 week scan on 21 Jan which seems an age away still. Thankfully had my first midwife appointment today and heard the baby's heartbeat 💓 so I feel a little less anxious and that there is something happening inside there xx

Clueless22 · 04/01/2022 19:34

'Doesn't feel real again' that should be ... I hate not having an edit button I'm such a fat fingers typist Grin

PleaseSendNoodles · 04/01/2022 19:52

@Clueless22 and @DaisyB2022 I’ve also felt a bit anxious lately. I don’t have an obvious bump and hardly any pregnancy symptoms. It feels like ages ago that I saw baby on a scan! Hopefully everything is fine!

PleaseSendNoodles · 04/01/2022 19:53

Oh and thanks for the list @EarlGreywithLemon - I’ve dutifully copied it into notes on my phone to worry about later 🙈

DaisyB2022 · 04/01/2022 20:09

@Clueless22 @PleaseSendNoodles
Yep completely get it. I had really bad nausea until 13 weeks and that disappeared almost overnight. Had my scan then and felt ok but as the days / weeks go by and the lack of bump or symptoms really plays on your mind.
We’ve got this ladies - not too long to wait. Although hours feel like weeks at the moment!!

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 20:17

I knew I forgot a few!

  • nappy bin - if using disposable nappies; we used one but we know people who didn’t bother; it’s actually more useful after they start on solids and their poos become smellier!
  • Napisan - to put in the washing machine for stain removal after leaks and the like; we actually had a plastic bucket with Napisan and water on the go and soaked pooey clothes as soon as we took them off her, wouldn’t really have wanted to mix them with the rest of the washing
  • travel cot if you are planning to stay away overnight a good deal
MrsNT · 04/01/2022 20:25

Thanks for the list @EarlGreywithLemon ive saved it in onenotes on my phone. Very useful. The only thing i have out of this list is "somewhere to sleep at night 😂"

thanks everyone for the reasurrance about the anterior placenta, big relief that its normal xx

EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 20:48

Grr - one more:

  • a feeding cushion; you can also re-use a maternity pillow if you have one, or some standard pillows. As long as they have washable covers!
EarlGreywithLemon · 04/01/2022 20:56

@MrsNT don’t worry! We had absolutely none of these things until 30 weeks last time! All was well and bought in good time in the end.

JAR1981 · 04/01/2022 20:58

Wow thread six!

Thanks so much for the list @EarlGreywithLemon I am not feeling ready to start researching much yet until after my 20 week scan (next Friday) so will need to very quickly start playing catch up after all being well.

Is anyone else consultant-led? And already had first appointment? I have my first tomorrow (by phone) at almost 19 weeks but not really sure what to expect or questions to prep?

MrsNT · 04/01/2022 20:59

@earlgreywithlemon yeah i dont want to rush.need to sort out storage space etc before i start buying things.

I ended up buying chicco crib so early as someone was selling it literally around the corner from us on fb market place and was really cheap

I wrote out a load of replies from the first thread then if deleted them when I found this one, annoying!

Somethings I remember, baby was in bouncer the day we got home from hospital last time. Will be the same this time. Getting a Moses basket this time as my son slept on my during daytime naps but will need to interact with him when baby sleeps this time. And baby will be on sleep suits for as long as possible this time.

My son is desperate for another boy. Keeps telling me he'll put the baby back in my tummy until it's a boy 😅

@PeeAche I'm planning cloth this time. Loads of friends had them so have given recommendations on food brands. Seems to be you get what you pay for with them. I've been advised to get new born disposable and then reusable from size 1

We've just started work on the nursery. It had polystyrene ceiling tiles and lining paper, wallpaper and painted bright yellow so I wanted it done before I need to start making it a nursery as couldn't store anything in it, in the state it was. Bought carpet for delivery in 6 weeks, and husband has plastered it so now need to find out gender so I can paint it before carpet comes! I've got a lot of baby things already, managed to get a load of bargains so have been picking things up as and when I see them cheap. As a result our room is bursting with baby things 😂

MrsNT · 04/01/2022 23:18

@Brightsmoke we need to sort out the room too. Im going for a boring neutral creamy shade lol

Hey folks! Wow, new thread!

@peeache also planning on reusables here, but it's so confusing. Trial and error seems to be the way forward. And it does sound like they're not suitable for the first few weeks so we've got a little breathing room. I also suspect nurseries may demands disposables, so ours will likely be a combo approach.

Night cramps again for me last night. So annoying. Sounds like fibroids may make it worse, so at least there's a bit of an explanation, but I still want sleeeeeep...

RoseValleyRambles · 05/01/2022 08:32

@mrsnt that's super helpful, thanks. I'm adding it to my list to ask about at my 20wk scan

Vimto1991 · 05/01/2022 09:02

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and new year. I found Christmas really overwhelming and ended up getting quite stressed with the in laws, and suffering from anxiety and panic attacks!! But been okay since (they left lol).

Today I’ve woken up and feel so guilty thinking about my eating habits. I still have terrible food aversion and eat what’s possible, but realised for the past four months I’ve not eaten an awful lot of fruit and vegetables. I hope this doesn’t harm the little one and will start eating better from today by forcing myself if I have to. 😩 pre pregnancy I had a really good diet, I can tell the baby is my DHs as his diet is terrible, too. Baby likes bland and unhealthy apparently!
