I know an Arabella (adult one, not a child) - it's shortened to Addy, which I quite like.

morningpaper · 21/12/2007 21:05

nice! know a cute baby called Arabella. The cutest thing is listening to other toddlers pronouncing it, "Ar-rra-bell-a" in toddler stutter sounds adorable

JackieNoel · 21/12/2007 21:05

Fishie - that's Arabel, not Arabella.

Meeely2 · 21/12/2007 21:05

my best friends baby is called arabella, its lovely - however her nickname is barry! or baz, suits her though, shock of red hair and a proper cheeky madam.

turquoise · 21/12/2007 21:06

Far too sloaney for me I'm afraid. Thought this was a pisstake thread!

moljam · 21/12/2007 21:06

i like it-like gisele also.

Meeely2 · 21/12/2007 21:06

my sons call her bella

meemar · 21/12/2007 21:06

It sounds quite posh. For some reason it makes me think 'Arabella, dahling..'

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 21/12/2007 21:07

i know an adult Bella ..I wou;ld try to keep it Arabella

funnypeCOOLYULEiar · 21/12/2007 21:07

I like it, although I don't like bella as as shortening - but does make me think of the poem :
Little Arrabella Miller
Found a furry caterpiller
First she put it on her mother
Then upon her baby brother
Both said 'Arrabella Miller
Take away that caterpiller'

So probably better if your surname's not Miller

notnowbernardimstuffingthebird · 21/12/2007 21:08

I LOVE Bella - Arabella a bit poncey - prefer Giselle!

(Wouldn't have shortened it ti 'Jiz'.. pronounced G-iz, surely?)

SantasLittleToiletFlusher · 21/12/2007 21:08

Sloaney and posh with a house in the country..ok yah dahhling!

funnypeCOOLYULEiar · 21/12/2007 21:08

Oh, and didn't see the giselle thread - lovely name - magical ballet associations for me
Although, yes, jiz perhaps not great!

fishie · 21/12/2007 21:09

Meeely2 · 21/12/2007 21:12

my boys call this arabella bella cos they can;t say whole name, but it doesn;t actually suit her, whereas arabella and barry does, wierd but true - i seriously don't think u can name a baby til you see him/her

robinredbreast · 21/12/2007 21:12

lol mmm im liking this one
i even like it shorten to bella
and at least my husband is italian so we don't have to put up with why have you picked a french[german!] name lol

mmm
bit annoying how everyone wants to shorten peoples names though isnt it?
you have to pick a name and think of everything it could rhyme with be shortend too
