@CurryandSnuggle Yay for 16 week appointments Smile I had mine too, did they listen to the heartbeat?

CurryandSnuggle · 17/12/2021 10:39

@Prema112 no they didn’t! I live in a different town than when I had my DS and I feel like this midwife is much less knowledgeable and helpful. Doesn’t really explain anything (I think because she assumes I know it all already but that’s not the point lol). Not holding out hope that she’s going to bother with listening to heartbeat at next appointment lol. 🤷‍♀️

Prema112 · 17/12/2021 11:15

@CurryandSnuggle Oh that's surprising I thought that was the main point of the check! Sorry you didn't get to hear it.

Clueless22 · 17/12/2021 11:42

Hi all, been keeping up to date in the background but not had the courage to post until now :)
I'm due on 10th June and my next milestone is the 16 week appointment with the midwife. Was just wondering if anyone had had this appointment already and what happens at this. Was given the name and number of the midwife for our area by my doctors and each attempt I've made to make contact its gone through to voicemail so think I'll struggle to get this arranged.
My first baby so I'm totally clueless with what the journey ahead looks like 🤭

EarlGreywithLemon · 17/12/2021 13:16

Welcome @Clueless22! From memory, the midwife will take your blood pressure and do a dip test on your urine. They will then discuss any blood test results from the booking appointment with you. I also had blood taken at mine (in my previous pregnancy) because I had iron deficiency symptoms- but I don’t think that’s standard. In some trusts they listen to the baby’s heart beat with a Doppler. Not all trusts do that though as it can be a big hit and miss whether they find it at this point and it can cause panic (unsurprisingly!!). My trust did in 2019 but no idea if this still do. Best of luck for your appointment!

EarlGreywithLemon · 17/12/2021 13:17

A bit hit and miss, not a big hit and miss!

InvisibleDragon · 17/12/2021 14:07

For people struggling with insomnia, this was me until last week. I got one of those long v-shaped pregnancy pillows and it has really helped a lot - I still wake up at some point over night, but it's more like 5am than 3am, and I'm able to get back to sleep again faster.

I was surprised the pillow made any difference, because I don't really have any noticeable bump yet, but it really seems to help (or is a placebo). I think being able to curl up around it gives my back more support and stops my (inflated like balloons) boobs from dangling painfully and waking me up. It also keeps me warmer, which is another plus.

Had my covid booster on Wednesday along with the flu jab and felt utterly crap (achy, feverish) for about 24 hours, but fine now. Really glad I was able to get it before Christmas, as I'd had the AZ one before (NHS worker guinea pig, so ended up with AZ even though it's not recommended for my age group), which is apparently totally pants at protecting against Omicron.

Clueless22 · 17/12/2021 15:11

Thank you so much @EarlGreywithLemon.
Still waiting a call back, so hopefully I'll get something booked in soon x

Clueless22 · 17/12/2021 15:31

@InvisibleDragon I have also bought a pregnancy pillow, wasn't sure if I'd purchased too soon as have a very small bump but I found it really comfy. Takes up a lot of space in the bed though.. husband and cat now have a lot less space lol x

Rolledthedice · 17/12/2021 16:38

@unknownscot I second the Calm App! Really helped me fall asleep when I had awful Lyme symptoms earlier in the year.

For those with anxiety induced heart palpitations, you could also try having a warm bath with some Epsom salts and listening to the 30 day meditation challenge on Calm app (they are only 10mins per session and it teaches you how to practice mindfulness). I used this when I had heart palpitations from Lyme disease too. I really believe that learning these mind and body techniques are one of the reasons I’m (so far!) having a calm pregnancy. :)

Rolledthedice · 17/12/2021 16:44

Welcome @Clueless22 and congrats on your first baby! We are only 3 days apart on due date. :) I’m also clueless about the 16 week appointment, but I assume it’s to run through any blood / testing results and I hope I also get given my risk factor and a care plan as so far nothing shows on Badger notes.

mrkb · 17/12/2021 17:54

@Clueless22 @InvisibleDragon what pillow did you get? I've been thinking about getting one as sleep/aches are getting ridiculous now!

Dogmum5 · 17/12/2021 17:57

Currently 13+4 after my scan on Monday.

Im sat feeling like I should be doing heaps of reading and buying all sorts but also have no clue where to begin. Its baby no1 can you tell?

Ive just bought myself a pregnancy pillow which is great.

Any books or just anything in general people would recommend doing at this point?

mrkb · 17/12/2021 18:03

@Dogmum5 I read 'Expecting Better' and thought it was great. Lots of facts/information to help you make your own decisions about everything from what/not to eat/drink to the birth plan (when we eventually get there...!) and I found it helped cut through a lot of the conflicting information that's out there!

unknownscot · 17/12/2021 18:39

I got the Kolbray Pregnancy Pillow. Haven't used it yet as it's a christmas gift and don't quite need it yet.

InvisibleDragon · 17/12/2021 19:05

@mrkb I got the Grandma Shark one - does the job nicely but not really expensive. It is really big though - my husband has been complaining! (Although I've found him snuggled up in it after I get up!)

hellointhere · 17/12/2021 23:37

I had my 12 week scan today after my last appointment a couple weeks after ago dated me too early. This time it was amazing! Baby was moving all over the place and it made me laugh, both of these things made it difficult for them to get a good image of them. It was amazing. I'm due June 26th. I was feeling very worried and low, but the seeing the scan made it disappear. I hope I can hold on to this feeling.
I decided to get the screening test, so waiting to hear back on that.

PeeAche · 18/12/2021 09:01

Told all the grandparents last night at my DH's birthday party. They all were a little too eager on the celebrations and my father is currently passed out on the sofa in the dining room. He stirred as I went in to light the fire and just said "PeeAche... you're pregnant!" Before passing out again.

I guess the party season has officially begun. 😅

I'm wondering how you guys are feeling in regards to Covid?
I don't want to go off track and start a big Covid discussion but just want an opinion.

I'm double vaccinated and boostered. I have a wedding to attend on Boxing Day with around 80 guests. I'm in two minds about the whole thing. I would definitely go to the ceremony with a mask on. But how would you all feel about the reception?

X

pregnancydiaries · 18/12/2021 10:31

@PeeAche I just shed a tear at “PeeAche…you’re pregnant”…damn these pregnancy hormones - how sweet!

ALHCTPS · 18/12/2021 11:04

@mrkb @Dogmum5 I second Expecting Better. Such an enormous relief to feel like you’re being treated like a sentient adult who can make an informed decision. So helpful re assessing what’s properly risky and what’s maybe a bit extreme.

GrowBabyGrow · 18/12/2021 11:52

@unknownscot oh that is really tricky dilemma. I would be apprehensive too. When did you have your booster? They take one to two weeks for the immunity to build up. So if it was a fortnight before the wedding at least you can be more confident that you are protected esp if wearing a mask (and even more protected if everyone else wears one too!) Hopefully with everything going on the venue will also be ventilating the rooms too... Are they asking guests to LFT and only come if well?

Would the couple getting married understand if you talk to them about your concerns? You definitely won't be the only person concerned about covid with everything going on! X

caz198917 · 18/12/2021 13:09

I had my gender scan today. I just had a peek. My husband doesn't know 🤣🙈🤣 and I'm not meant to know either. Xx

DaimDillyDoo · 18/12/2021 13:36

It's a baby girl!
