@LemonSwan Kimi was on my husband's list of potential names! He, however, had it as a girl name and when I pointed out that it's a boy name he got very confused 🤣 he was just scrolling through some lists of Finnish names and just assumed.

Just joining this thread, 19weeks tomorrow, no flutterings yet but last night I felt a sharp quick pain right in the middle of my bump, which I'm assuming was a kick, but weird is hasn't been preceded by flutterings or bubbles or anything else. Could it have been something else? It wasn't ligament pain, I get that regularly much lower down.

LemonSwan · 18/12/2021 11:21

@GinnyBee
Haha I know! It does sound like a girl name doesnt it. But Kimi Raikonnen is a legend and he certainly pulls it off. Perhaps one for the middle name.

My dad is quite adamant boys should have two useable names so they can have a decision. I only recently found out his actual name is his middle name! How he has failed to bother to mention something so important is beyond me. No wonder my attempts at family tree making failed so spectacularly Grin

TashieWoo · 18/12/2021 11:56

Welcome @Zibidee!

I wouldn’t like to say what you have felt, as I haven’t felt anything obvious and I’m 20+6 but it could be that you didn’t notice any possible preceding movements as they are so subtle.

I don’t know if kicks are supposed to be like a pain at this stage, but if it wasn’t a kick I wouldn’t worry about pain that goes quickly as it is likely to be muscular.

The above is just based on what I’ve read / what I’ve been told by friends who’ve had babies, I am not an expert. I hope we all start to feel some proper movements soon if we haven’t already Smile

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 18/12/2021 12:12

So exciting we are all starting to have the 20 week scans. Mine is on Monday.

I had my Covid booster yesterday and I am feeling so crappy today, just completely exhausted, headache and shivery. Hope it doesn’t last too long. My husband had his yesterday too and is also feel unwell and our 2 little boys are not impressed at our lack of energy today 😂

Really hoping we manage to avoid getting ill before Christmas. We are supposed to be travelling to see my family for Christmas. We couldn’t go last year because of Covid and I’ve been so looking forward to it but I got an email saying there’s been a positive case in my sons reception class yesterday and then I got pinged to say I’ve been in close contact with someone on Monday which must have been at his nativity as I didn’t go anywhere else that day so just hoping we all stay healthy and can go and not infect everyone!

Bubbasmama2017 · 19/12/2021 14:22

It's so stressful at the moment isn't it! I keep cancelling plans and it doesn't feel very festive but really want to keep us all covid free til Christmas at least

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/12/2021 04:48

Hey ladies! I understand that it's less common here than in the US, but I'm putting together a gift registry for my family and friends back home to be able to send us presents for baby that we really want and need.

I've found big things like prams and bassinets, etc. without any trouble, but what stores in the UK sell little things like changing pads, burp cloths, pacifiers/dummies, etc.

As a newcomer, I do prefer actual bricks-and-mortar stored like John Lewis over internet-only stores, as I'm not familiar enough to know what's an established shop and what's just another online reseller.

In the States, there's a store called BuyBuy Baby that is a usual place for all things baby/nursery. Something similar here?

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/12/2021 04:49

PS. Clearly the insomnia is in full force tonight, posting about such a thing at 4:45. 😵‍💫

fattycatty82 · 20/12/2021 05:53

@aNewYorkerInLondon I also woke at 4am 😭 I would say probably Boots is your best bet for those type of things, possibly Superdrug too which is slightly cheaper but I'll let the more recently experienced mums comment!

My scan is Friday and I feel like I've been waiting forever... the longer I wait the more I'm worrying something will be wrong. Ive had so much energy lately, a complete turnaround to the first horrible months of exhaustion and nausea that sometimes I forget I'm even pregnant and I feel like my bump hasn't got any bigger in a while either. I think I'm feeling a few flutters though so hopefully it's all ok 🤞

It's never good to wish your life away but I just want to finish work on Thursday, covid free and ready to find out I'm having a healthy boy or girl!

Bubbasmama2017 · 20/12/2021 07:56

Yes boots as they sell Mothercare now which used to be a big baby shop here, also mamas and papas sell lovely things

TashieWoo · 20/12/2021 08:15

@aNewYorkerInLondon Jojo Maman Bebe is also a nice go-to shop for baby things Smile

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/12/2021 08:16

Thanks!! Yes, I remember reading about Mothercare going out of business about two-ish years ago and wondering what would take its place.

robyna · 20/12/2021 10:45

We've got loads of stuff (bigger furniture stuff) from Smyth's Toys. Got a cot, pram and bedside crib, all way cheaper than anywhere else I've seen!

LS2020 · 20/12/2021 17:44

@robyna ooh that’s interesting on Smyths I didn’t know they did baby stuff!

@aNewYorkerInLondon I’m an avid online shopper I’m afraid but would suggest boots, their mothercare section and mamas and papas for any smaller bits like that 😊

Ended up in maternity assessment unit today as still felt so unwell post covid booster - all was fine but just told me to take easy and one of those things. Never had a reaction to first two, it’s so strange! Good news is that it’s my 20 week scan tomorrow so using that to keep me going and hoping I feel better soon! Keep doing my LF’s just in case too 😩

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/12/2021 17:48

@LS2020, I hope you feel better soon!! The booster knocked my husband on his backside too. For me it was roughly the same side effects each time.

Sarah239 · 20/12/2021 20:23

@LS2020 oh I'm sorry you feel so rough! Maybe it means you have a god tier immune system training up!

My husband and I had our boosters on Saturday evening... we'd both had two doses of Pfizer and this time I got Moderna and he got Pfizer. We both didn't sleep well on Saturday night (mainly sore arms) and spent Sunday feeling achy and tired, he felt worse I think. But today we are ok. Really hope you feel better soon and good luck with your scan!

I feel like I haven't researched any baby stuff yet... I am starting to shift to maternity clothes now, but cots/prams/carseats I haven't got a clue! I think mentally I'm waiting for 20 week scan again as still don't want to jinx it...!

Has anyone's partners been able to feel movements yet? I keep telling him to put his hand on my tummy and convinced the movements are really obvious but he says he can't feel a thing. I guess it's hard for me to separate what I feel inside with outside!

Zibidee · 20/12/2021 20:36

@Sarah239 I'm so fearful of jinxing things, have been ever since starting IVF meds in July! Don't know of that feeling will ever go, but also waiting for 20week scan (at 22weeks 😟) to really believe it. Probably wait until April to buy anything!
And just started feeling flutters 2 days ago, pretty sure they can't be felt on the outside, not sure when that starts.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/12/2021 22:15

@Sarah239, my husband felt one small thump, but mostly feels nothing yet. I have an anterior placenta so it may be some time before he heels baby strongly. I can't wait to really share that with him.

@Zibidee, I think a fear of jinxing is natural. I found out I was pregnant the morning we were leaving for vacation. I was so afraid to jinx it that I refused to unpack the tampons I had packed in my suitcase. I lugged a huge box of them all over Scotland to not jinx it!! 🤣

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/12/2021 22:17

Hi ladies! For any of you who’ve had babies before, have you ever switched hospitals partway through your pregnancy?

We’re moving in February and we’ll be twice as far then as we are now from the hospital I’m currently going to.

The trip from our new place to my current hospital is about an hour and ten minutes by foot/mass transit and anywhere from 25 minutes to over an hour by cab.

The trip from our new place to the other potential hospital is about 25 minutes by bus, 30-35 minutes on foot, and ten to 30 minutes by cab.

(Gotta love central London traffic.)

For the most part, I do not dislike the care I have received thus far, and I’m used to them now so I’d be a bit nervous to switch, but it’s also quite a long way and, besides the “main event,” I’m high risk, so I have appointments every month.

Both hospitals have excellent reputations. Both have NICUs in case something catastrophic happens.

Thoughts on switching?

morphe · 21/12/2021 00:55

Sorry to hear you're unwell @LS2020. I was lucky and didn't have much reaction to my booster, just a sore arm. Although I wonder if that's because I'm old and the reaction means a stronger immune system?

For baby items, John Lewis is reliable for quality but can be expensive. I think I got most of DD's things from Boots, Mothercare or Ebay shops/Amazon. We still have quite a few of DD's things so I haven't thought much about buying anything, but we gave away most clothes and early toys.

@aNewYorkerInLondon I've never switched hospitals but I wish I had done in my last pregnancy - I just didn't realise the process was as straightforward as it is (you can just self-refer to a new hospital without giving a reason or notifying your old one). With London traffic, it probably is easier to be at a closer hospital, although having said that I'm not using my closest one. I suppose it might depend if you feel you've built up a relationship with your consultant and having that continuity would matter to your care. In my previous pregnancy I didn't have much to do with the hospital until the later stages, and saw different people each time, so it wouldn't have made much difference if I'd switched.

We're going to be flying out to see DH's family in the US tomorrow. Not a great time to be on a plane but we have FFP2 masks and have got our fit to fly tests back all clear. I was half expecting one of us to test positive as it's so rampant in London right now.

LS2020 · 21/12/2021 09:15

Thanks for all your well wishes 💕 yes everyone keeps telling me it must be a good immune response to it but is making me want to avoid covid like anything now! I’ve napped twice yesterday and just slept 11 hours last night so hoping it means I’m getting through 🤞🏻

@Sarah239 I had a really one off where baby kicked like 10 times in about 15 seconds where OH had his hand over and he maybe felt that so I think it’s too early yet. I’ve had a couple of big kicks someone might have been able to feel but they’re so one off, no way of predicting.
I’m hoping my 20 week scan is a good trigger to start buying the remaining non big items we don’t have.

@aNewYorkerInLondon I would definitely switch, especially if you’re going to loads of appointments there too. you’ll get used to the new ways they work and actually be for the best as will be equally familiar once you’ve been a few times.
When I was in the MAU yesterday, even though I’ve been to that hospital for loads of appointments, I still felt a little lost and small in the maternity ward so I’m not sure how much familiarity preps you anyway!

@morphe have a safe flight - don’t envy you an American length flight, make sure you take stuff to be comfy 😊

robyna · 21/12/2021 13:17

Just had my booster, it really hurt this time! Just resting for the rest of today as I felt a little lightheaded after. I was supposed to get moderna but when I told them I'm pregnant they switched to Pfizer, I asked if it's cause I'm pregnant and they said yes but I didn't ask why. Anyone else had anything similar?

LS2020 · 21/12/2021 16:37

@robyna hope you fair better than me! That’s interesting I told them I was pregnant and they kept me on Moderna (I had Moderna first two times) apparently they’re supposed to be the same, just not AZ. I think Pfizer’s just that bit more widely been had by pregnant women so they like to go with known outcomes rather than anything in it etc.

Had my 20 week scan today and baby all happy, no issues. Wouldn’t budge for any number of jumping jacks so definitely a sleeper like their dad 😂

robyna · 21/12/2021 17:11

@LS2020 I'm currently in bed feeling absolutely awful! I've definitely reacted worse to this one that my previous two, I can barely get out of bed my whole body is aching!

Honeymint · 21/12/2021 17:32

@robyna That’s interesting, I was given Moderna anyway when I told them but I think they only had the one sort on the day. I’m sure it’s fine, but I’m worrying about it now!

I’ve had a rubbish few days myself. I’ve come down with a terrible sore throat and headache. At first I thought it was just a delayed reaction to the booster but it’s going on a bit - I’ve only been to get my booster in the last few weeks but it was right at the back of the store and it was packed. I’m really hoping I didn’t catch covid Shock
