So. Today i am 8w pregnant (deffinately pregnant as all blood tests confirm. But, i have now had 3 scans, all transvaginal, and they cant find my baby.

They were testing me for ectopic but said with my HCG levels its starting to look unlikely its that.

Im due for another scan at 8w5d and hoping to find someone whos had a similar situation who can give me some hope.

Im really hoping they can find a little heartbeat in there somewhere!

maybe having a different shaped uterus

That sounds possible for a double uterus?

I just re-read your posts. What are they seeing on the scans? You are saying they can't see your baby but I'm not sure what they can see? Clearly it's something as you've said they are satisfied it's in the right place?

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 18/10/2021 21:14

My partial molar was spotted at my 12 week scan, but it took about 6 weeks to be confirmed. The consultant said he was pretty sure from seeing the scan but he couldn’t tell me until he knew. At the 12 week point I was told it was an unviable pregnancy, and I had to have a D&C..

My hcG levels were high so I was huge and growing and I had bad morning sickness, so it came as a complete shock to find something was wrong. It really hasn’t crossed my mind.

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 21:15

@EarringsandLipstick not blunt at all, they are saying i am pregnant, but because they cant see it on the scan, its not a viable pregnancy, so they would like to terminate (going in tomorrow for more details on that) they have been very backwards and fowards between diagnoses, they originally looked for ectopic but ruled that out (not sure how) theyve suggested molar and also the double uterus. Oh to add in, at one point they suggested twins, forgot to mention that on here. So if im honest, i have no idea. I have been told my HCG were rising to quickly, too slowly and that they are perfectly normal. All of these on the same day too by different people, ive had my bloods done 5 times now since 6w. I have been told its a pregnancy in the uterus, but also that there are no signs of pregnancy, at all! I have alot of questions for them and i feel like ive been stuck inside a riddle that noone knows the answer too...

This sound horrendous treatment. Why on earth weren’t you able to see the screen??

If they’ve ruled out ectopic perhaps ask about the possibility of extrauterine pregnancy. I’ve seen a couple and they’ve both been missed.

AndThenInTheEnd · 18/10/2021 21:18

Sorry, extra uterine as in abdominal pregnancy.

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 21:18

@EarringsandLipstick thats exactly the problem, theyve told me its a pregnancy in the uterus, but theyve also told me theres NO signs of pregnancy, at all.

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 18/10/2021 21:21

Thanks @KJE3112

But to go back to my question, what can they see? You keep saying baby - do you mean they can see no embryo at all? Just a sac? Or not even that?

How would twins account for not seeing any embryo?

When you look at the scan, what can you see?

Have they printed out anything for you?

Regarding the possible molar pregnancy, it may not be possible to tell this as PPs have said. However that's not your issue. You would see this pregnancy. It just would not be able to develop as its abnormal cells rather than a developing foetus. But you'd certainly see something.

I feel so sorry for you (and apologies, my last post crossed with this one).

If there is no sign of pregnancy at all, it's not possible for you to be pregnant.

You may have miscarried early, in which case there may be no retained products to see.

However that sounds really unlikely given your dates & HcG levels.

I think you need to ask them how two totally contradictory statements are true - that you are pregnant with no signs of pregnancy.

ViceLikeBlip · 18/10/2021 21:25

What a horrible situation. I would also ask them why they are so anxious for you to actively terminate, ie what's the worst case scenario if you just "wait and see" for X weeks?

(I obviously understand the dangers of a fallopian ectopic, but are there the same dangers from other pregnancies of unknown location?)

ThirdElephant · 18/10/2021 21:26

Sorry you've been treated so poorly, OP.

Remember, it's your body and your choice. They can't tell you what they're going to do, they have to ask you if they can do what they'd like to.

catandbabymama · 18/10/2021 21:26

Just wanted to come on and add you don't have to "ask" then if you can wait a few weeks, you tell them that's what you want to do. They can't force you into a termination, that's bloody barbaric. You get to choose what happens next, you don't even have to go to the hospital yet if you don't want to. It's perfectly legal and well within your rights to decline their suggestions.
I'm also baffled by the suggestion of termination because if there's nothing there how can there be anything to terminate or a foetus to biopsy?

EarringsandLipstick · 18/10/2021 21:28

why they are so anxious for you to actively terminate,

If there is nothing visible - no sac, yolk, embryo, there is nothing to terminate.

I feel really sorry for OP but factually & medically the information as presented here doesn't make sense, and I wonder if there is some significant miscommunication (which is still terrible for OP & shouldn't be happening).

addictedtotheflats · 18/10/2021 21:29

I had an anembryonic pregnancy suspected at 8 weeks and confirmed at 9 weeks. The egg implants but never develops but due to the implantation your body continues to produe hcg and grow an empty sac. Sadly it ended in medical management of miscarriage for me, hoping its a good outcome for you x

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 21:30

@EarringsandLipstick how theyve explained it when theyve said no signs of pregnancy, theyve said theres nothing to indicate, at all a pregnancy, so no signs at all of pregnancy, no embryo, no sac, nothing as if im not pregnant, but they know i am, because of my blood tests.

I have no idea where the suggestion of twins even came from, they said it to me and my MIL last week and we both thought it was strange then so i kind of forgot about it.

Ive not seen my scans, and theyve not told me or shown me that theyve printed anything but i know they have notes, which im going to ask to see tomorrow.

I feel like they dont really know the answer, so theyre jumping to a conclusion.

I had a pregnancy of unknown location and my HCG levels bounced around rather than doubling, I also had the prune juice bleeding - my hospital was happy for me to naturally miscarry, however I had to have a lot of blood tests until the HCG had gone right down.

I'm so sorry flats

I thought of this - however, OP says nothing is visible at all. There would be a sac visible if this was the case.

addictedtotheflats · 18/10/2021 21:32

Ohh sorry I misunderstood. Thats is very strange and I would definitely want answers aswell. Thanks

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 21:34

@EarringsandLipstick i think miscommunication has a big thing to do with all of this, each person i see gives me different diagnosis and information, often contradicting what the last person has said to me, im going in tomorrow to clear things up and get a better picture of things so i cant find out whats really happening

That's so difficult

I think you need to ask to see the scan images.

If your HcG levels are continuing to rise, then there must be a pregnancy in some location. However a scan and / or MRI would establish that by this point eg a double uterus / ectopic pregnancy.

The other options eg anembryonic pregnancy would be possible to see, and would also be - about now - the cause of blood loss as you would miscarry at this point.

I really think there must be some confusion if they say that can see nothing at all but talk about termination.

Frazzledd · 18/10/2021 21:38

Can you ask to speak to a consultant obstetrician or someone who can gather all the information and give you some clarity?

I'm so sorry your going through this Flowers

MolkosTeenageAngst · 18/10/2021 21:39

I’m sorry the informations you’re getting sounds very disjointed and contradictory. Fingers crossed you get some answers tomorrow Flowers

TheChip · 18/10/2021 21:42

What a nightmare, OP.

The question I'd be asking is, if there are no signs of pregnancy, what exactly would you be terminating?

You must be so confused because it doesn't seem that they are giving you any clear messages at all!

Just remember, your body your choice.
Good luck for tomorrow

This.

Stand your ground. If you want to wait, wait. They don’t get to decide what to do with YOUR body.

CocaColaTruck1 · 18/10/2021 21:44

I'm very sorry your going through this op Thanks
As others, stand your ground, get answers.
I think for them to jump straight to a termination is mental.

whosaidtha · 18/10/2021 21:46

I would have thought they'd be looking for or suggesting alternate reasons for your hcg levels to be rising. It's so confusing for you when they seem confused themselves. Are you still having positive home tests? Go in with your list of questions. Hope you get answers.
