So. Today i am 8w pregnant (deffinately pregnant as all blood tests confirm. But, i have now had 3 scans, all transvaginal, and they cant find my baby.

They were testing me for ectopic but said with my HCG levels its starting to look unlikely its that.

Im due for another scan at 8w5d and hoping to find someone whos had a similar situation who can give me some hope.

Im really hoping they can find a little heartbeat in there somewhere!
@anotherDayofThis theyve given me nothing, wouldnt let me look at the screen either while they were scanning me, im going in tomorrow to see a supervisor, im taking my partner with me this time too so i have someone on my side. Theyve also told me they cant see anything, but its deffinately in my uterus.
They can’t do that with the screen - was this an EPU? They should be explaining to you what they can/can’t see

They can’t say that it is definitely in your uterus if they can’t see anything ??

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/10/2021 17:38

I think you have every right to look at the screen. It's your body.

anotherDayofThis · 18/10/2021 17:39

You have a right to see the screen and you have a right to your scan reports . Sorry you are going through this it must be very confusing

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/10/2021 17:39

I think they can see a sac then but it should be possible to show you.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/10/2021 17:40

Ask to see a consultant to rule out ectopic and opt for surgical route for D&C.

anotherDayofThis · 18/10/2021 17:40

In our trust of hcg is rising and no signs on US of a gest sac or fetus then you would be admitted and an ectopic assumed

anotherDayofThis · 18/10/2021 17:42

I’m surprised they haven’t suggested a laparoscopic procedure to check your tubes? Are you sure they haven’t mentioned anything about seeing a sac but not a fetus ?

GreenLunchBox · 18/10/2021 17:42

Can you get a private scan, OP?

Do you know whether you have any fibroids or anything?

GreenLunchBox · 18/10/2021 17:44

Posted too soon but the reason I asked is this happened to someone I know and it turned out she had a massive fibroid.

MyMabel · 18/10/2021 17:49

This sounds like such a frustrating situation. Have they told you consistently that it’s in the uterus? I feel like if they can’t even see a sac/pole or anything over the course of time you’ve been having scans but with rising HCG then it may well be a ectopic which is why they’re saying it’s non viable and recommended terminating? Sometimes I feel like they expect you to read their mind and don’t give the full story of what they know is going on.

Otherwise, if it’s definitely, definitely not a ectopic pregnancy why they would be so quick to terminate. Even with who have a visible pregnancy but with no heartbeat are sent home to let nature take it’s course and expel the fetus/tissue at first. I feel like if you’ve got rising HCG, and no reason to assume your health may be at risk like an ectopic then you can’t just wait it out and be monitored.

On one hand, I be inclined to take medical advice because.. well they’re professionals - then on the other hand it seems like they’re being a bit too hasty suggesting a termination with regularly rising HCG ect.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I wish you all the best with whichever outcome. Flowers

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 17:52

Theyve told me its not ectopic, i presumed it was because they couldnt find anything where it shouldnt be, if that makes sense.

@anotherDayofThis I dont know what a laparoscopic procedure is? And nope, the words where "no signs of pregnancy"
@GreenLunchBox I can get a private scan, and me and my partner are thinking about that as an option, no fibroids, at least, i dont think i have.

Have they mentioned a Molar pregnancy to you? Sounds a little similar to my experience many years ago. Basically it’s an empty sac where the baby would normally be. Extremely high HCG levels

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 17:56

@MyMabel my concern was the hastiness of the termination. I really want to wait just a few more weeks, then, if a termination is necessary then thats what ill have to do, but, theyre only basing it off the scans when everything else points to either healty pregnancy, or ectopic. But theyve somehow ruled out an ectopic.

anotherDayofThis · 18/10/2021 17:56

You need to get a second opinion and insist on seeing the screen and having the diagnosis properly explained to you Flowers

KJE3112 · 18/10/2021 17:58

@hellywelly3 theyve mentioned a molar and said that is a possibility, but theyve also told me im showing no signs and symptoms of it and my HCG are at normal levels.

Read the NHS info pages they are actually good at laying out the options and symptoms. For instance this link says scan may not always find an ectopic but a laparoscopy would. www.nhs.uk/conditions/ectopic-pregnancy/diagnosis/

Hattie765 · 18/10/2021 17:58

I'm sorry hon, it sounds like a missed miscarriage. I've had one and they're not uncommon. Sometimes you lose a baby early on and the body doesn't realise for a while so you still feel pregnant and release pregnancy hormones. You can let nature take it's course or manage it medically. I hope I'm wrong though and it works out for you xxx

lynntheyresexpeople · 18/10/2021 17:59

Have you bled at all earlier on op? They cannot force you to terminate!!

DerbyshireMama · 18/10/2021 18:03

Just remember it's your body and they cannot force you to do anything you don't want to. I know they can be quite unpleasant if you don't blindly agree to whatever they want to do to you, but you still don't have to do it.

Fernando072020 · 18/10/2021 18:03

Sorry to hear you're going through this, op. The person you spoke to on the phone sounds horrendous and cold.
My first thought was a MMC. I had one where my baby stopped growing at 7 weeks and it was discovered at 10 weeks. It could be your baby has stopped growing so early and that's why you can't see anything and yet your body is carrying on like you're still pregnant. I had symptoms until the d&c.
Hope I'm wrong but you definitely deserve to wait a bit, get a second opinion and actually talk to someone with a bit of compassion x

CharlieP1977 · 18/10/2021 18:03

So sorry you are going through this.

Do not forget - It is your body and your decision Hun!!

If you don't want to make a decision or don't feel comfortable at this time then do not be pressured into anything.
Get second or third checks if you need and go with your gut until you get the answers.

Thanks
dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/10/2021 18:03

You should be able to get some sense out the NHS if you see a consultant but if you want private and are near London, the fetal medicine centre used to be really good. Pregnancy viability scans are one of their options.

Romanticrights · 18/10/2021 18:11

If they've mentioned the possibility of a double uterus, I'd definitely want a second opinion! It makes no sense that they can insist on the pregnancy being in the uterus but not seeing a sac? Could you try another hospital?

Clovacloud · 18/10/2021 18:21

I’m so sorry for your loss, I had this years ago. My HCG levels said I was pregnant, but nothing on the scan. My GP said that it was pretty common and that I had basically reabsorbed the foetus. I eventually had a period/miscarriage as normal. If there is no immediate danger, ask if they will just give you time for your body to deal with it?

Piapiano · 18/10/2021 18:28

I think you need to get them to spell out why they want you to terminate and if there any risks of not terminating. Don't feel pressured to make a quick decision. I'm so sorry for how insensitivity you've been treated and spoken to.
