Pregnancy after miscarriage

Hello,

I just found out I’m pregnant again (very early days, 4w today). I had a mmc back in April which was diagnosed at almost 12 weeks but baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks and then I fell pregnant again but had a natural mc at 5+5.
This time I am taking progesterone pessaries and aspirin. Anyone else pregnant after a loss? I’m so scared about mmc but trying to relax as much as possible.

I’ve just had another scan and seen a baby with a heartbeat measuring 7w5d, so it's caught up a day! Was 6w4d last Wednesday.

I had a missed miscarriage at 8w4d in February so I won't feel properly reassured until I’ve passed that threshold (and even then I think I'll still be anxious) but I’ve got to take it as good news for the moment.

Am also feeling sick (although never to the point I think I might be sick), which I haven't really experienced in any of my previous three pregnancies. Really hoping things work out this time.

Rachae · 13/10/2021 16:56

@itssquidstella that's really positive news!! What I'd give to feel sick haha... when did it start for you? xx

black2black · 13/10/2021 17:14

@Rachae I didn’t feel sick at all with my first pregnancy, my second I felt sick as soon as I was the slightest bit hungry. I know it’s hard when you have no symptoms but that was the norm for me.

Selena33 · 13/10/2021 17:24

@Oti21 and @Loulou237 thank you. I know anything can happen however I do think two weeks it’s a lot to be behind in the early days. I have been preparing for the worst as I think it will be beneficial to me if I do get bad news in two weeks time. If they’ve got good news then I will be over the moon of course but with my mmc I started spotting, convinced myself it was ok and then it was the worst scan experience. I have been positive and relaxed until now as things were going well and I think that’s the way to be though as difficult as it can be but appreciate your support :)

@Lucy8721 and @black2black so happy you got good news! This is my first experience with an early scan that has not been conclusive either good/bad and I totally understand now why some women don’t find them reassuring at all.

@PeeAche that must be so hard! We have enough with our own negativity your partner would do you a favour if he was to be your positive support person but maybe it’s his way of not getting hurt? Hugs to you

I've just taken a new pregnancy test, 3 days after my first (faint line) test. My line is noticeably much darker.

I am very pleased. Now getting carried away and already practicing our announcement for Christmas Eve in my head. Blush

black2black · 13/10/2021 18:46

That’s awesome @PeeAche!!!

TinyTickler · 13/10/2021 19:02

@Rachae this is all such marvellous advice. I'm so sorry your in a position to share it but thank you for doing so!

itssquidstella · 14/10/2021 07:32

@Rachae hard to say as I’ve had awful indigestion for at least two weeks! Still not convinced this is morning sickness rather than general digestive havoc tbh, but whatever it is, it's making me feel constantly slightly off :/

Rachae · 14/10/2021 08:30

@itssquidstella I say take it and that sounds encouraging! Well I've woken up bloody normal again 🤣 so much energy I could run a marathon. 5.4 days today.. come on lady luck, bring me some sickness 😁🤞

Hope everyone's ok xxx

PeeAche · 14/10/2021 11:39

Oh my god. I'm feeling a bit sick. Started late last night. I've never been so happy to feel like shit.

GinnyBee · 14/10/2021 12:33

Congrats @PeeAche 🤣 it's crazy isn't it, when you feel like crap you hope it would stop and when it does, you want it to come back!

I've just had my scan this morning, all is still well! Little dude was measuring two days ahead even, 8+6 when I should be 8+4 and heartbeat flickering away. Couldn't get a side profile so just looked like a lump so I didn't bother asking for a picture. I'm so relieved! My symptoms eased off a week ago and whilst I don't feel completely normal yet, I feel much much better than I did and was starting to panic that I'll find another mmc and the progesterone I'm on is causing what little symptoms I still have. This is now further along than I got to with my other two pregnancies, so I'm starting to feel more hopeful. Next scan in two weeks again.

black2black · 14/10/2021 13:24

That’s awesome @GinnyBee. I had 2 MCs and then went on to have a successful pregnancy when I started taking progesterone at 3dpo.

Rachae · 14/10/2021 13:38

@GinnyBee that's awesome! :-)
I'm on 1200mg of progesterone a day and hear you on the symptoms front. I literally chatted to my friend today and she said that she never had symptoms until 24 weeks! Also that her colleague is pregnant now and hasn't had one symptom and is 30 weeks! You hear this stuff on forums but it was so much more real/ reassuring to hear from a friend.

Fingers crossed fro you xx

Oti21 · 14/10/2021 16:13

Ahh congratulations @GinnyBee lovely news.

I’ve also never felt so glad to feel horrendous @PeeAche I started being sick Monday evening at approx 5 + 3, no vomiting so far today thankfully just generally feeling awful. That said I know plenty of people who had little or no symptoms and healthy pregnancies and now I’m also scared of feeling better 😂😭

I have my follow up scan tomorrow and I almost want to cancel it! I’ll only be 6 weeks exactly so it may not even see a heartbeat even if it’s all good.

Rachae · 14/10/2021 18:32

@Oti21 oo congrats on the sickness! 😁 As odd as that sounds 😂 Fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow.
Still no sickness my end, ill be 6 weeks this Sunday. I've had a constant headache all day and whilst boobs aren't sore, they've got really massive... I'm hoping these are signs, instead of just the progestrone. Not sure xxx

Oti21 · 14/10/2021 19:08

Thanks @rache haha

I think it’s more usual to start feeling sick after 6 weeks so you have plenty of time! TMI but I also have awful constipation and have for about 10 days now which I’m sure is contributing a lot.

Massive boobs and headaches definitely sound like good signs! My boobs are only sore intermittently. I’ve been poking them a lot because last time they were so sore and like rocks and this time they’re nothing like that. xx

Rachae · 15/10/2021 07:34

Thanks @Oti21 - totally relate to the constipation! Thinking of you today and fingers crossed.

How about back pain? Has anyone had this? Xx

PeeAche · 15/10/2021 08:10

Good luck today, @Oti21 xxxxx

GinnyBee · 15/10/2021 10:25

Best of luck @Oti21 ! xx

I'm also struggling with constipation, and now so is my dog! His issue is unrelated obviously haha! Three more weeks of progesterone, and I'm already so ready to stop taking it...

PeeAche · 15/10/2021 10:42

For people on progesterone, is it because of low progesterone in previous pregnancies?

I have bad vaginal dryness and it's making me quite worried. This is my 3rd pregnancy; 2 previous miscarriages.

Rachae · 15/10/2021 11:01

@PeeAche I was prescribed it as I've had 3 mc's, so studies show it can be effective for women with reoccurent mcs. I've never had my progestrone checked in pregnancy tho as I've been taking these so it would skew the results.
Might be worth getting a medichecks progestrone at home blood test? They're about 40 pounds and at least you know your level to take to the GP

Thank you so much for this advice Thanks I didn't know I could buy those.

I'm in 2 minds about asking for an appointment to discuss my anxiety. I'm a trembling wreck. But I'm unsure if this would be a waste of NHS time. I've never asked for mental health help before but I just don't feel myself. I'm sure the hormones are part of it.

GinnyBee · 15/10/2021 11:46

@PeeAche I've never had that tested, so it might not be helping me at all, as it's only really useful if your own progesterone production isn't sufficient. I also have two losses and didn't qualify for investigations, but was given it just in case as there's no harm in trying it, but it is possible that it's doing nothing at all for me.

Rachae · 15/10/2021 11:58

@PeeAche I echo what @GinnyBee said there, the progestrone could be doing nothing at all! Don't worry that you don't have it this time X

I 100% recommend seeing someone for anxiety - it's never wasting anyone's time. A question for you... Why don't you deserve it? I've had lots of therapy across my mcs and it honestly was the best thing I did. I'm now doing weekly hypnotherapy privately (50 pounds a session), and that's been even more helpful. Less invasive than therapy and super calming. Xx

Oti21 · 15/10/2021 12:33

Thanks @Rachae @PeeAche and @GinnyBee

It went well, measuring 6 plus 2 with a good heart beat. They don’t want to scan me again and told me to book in with a midwife, which I still can’t bring myself to do although for now I do feel reassured. My dates match with the first day of my last period rather than when I ovulated (according to ovulation tests anyway).

I cried in the shower, in the car both ways and mid scan and I’m not a cryer!

I also asked about symptoms and they said it’s totally normal for them to come and go and even not have them at all. xx
