Pregnancy after miscarriage

Hello,

I just found out I’m pregnant again (very early days, 4w today). I had a mmc back in April which was diagnosed at almost 12 weeks but baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks and then I fell pregnant again but had a natural mc at 5+5.
This time I am taking progesterone pessaries and aspirin. Anyone else pregnant after a loss? I’m so scared about mmc but trying to relax as much as possible.

Just popping in to say had a private scan and all ticking along nicely at 17 weeks. Such a relief!

itssquidstella · 31/01/2022 13:42

Great news @OnceUponAThread!

Loulou237 · 31/01/2022 14:03

Oh amazing news @OnceUponAThread ! You must be thrilled. Not long now til the 20 week one and then you will be have to stop worrying a bit (that’s what I’ve told myself anyway) xx

OnceUponAThread · 31/01/2022 14:07

So pleased. I predict thrilled for a week, calmly pleased for a week and then gentle ramping up of anxiety as I gear up for 20 weeks.

I do think I will calm down a lot if 20 week scan goes well. And then will be much better again when I can feel baby moving.

Although I suspect there will be a fair amount of panic about the birth itself (terrifying) and somehow managing to look after a child from then on.

Fantastic news @OnceUponAThread ! Did you find out what you're having?

Loulou237 · 31/01/2022 14:24

@OnceUponAThread oh hilarious, I’m exactly the same and yes the worry never ends.

I watched an awful lot of one born every minute before my daughter was born, I’d prefer to know every possible outcome really and it did calm me down a lot. I know most people prefer not to see the gory details though! I was shocked at how well I coped with labour, it’s so true it’s all instinct and you just relax and know what to do when the time comes. And by that point you will be so sick of being pregnant you’ll be desperate for labour ha! Xx
@susiebluebell yes it’s just too tempting and such a long time to wait to find out!

I’m good thank you, on the whole. Pregnancy doesn’t agree with me really but I’m resting as much as possible and reminding myself how amazing it all is and how lucky I am. I hope you’re well, are you experiencing the symptom free second trimester that most people get? Xx
@Loulou237 Yeah mainly symptom-free, other than not being able to poo without Fybogel 😒 and getting a bit puffed and dizzy at work if I stand up too quick. Glad you're just focusing on resting. We think it's all about the baby but my partner said 'it's all about you!' 😊

@GinnyBee

Fantastic news *@OnceUponAThread* ! Did you find out what you're having?
@GinnyBee yes I did. So exciting.

They said they were 99% sure but you do hear about people constantly being told one sex and and finding out at birth it's another, so I'm trying to keep that in mind.

So glad I know. It's made it feel so much more real somehow.

Loulou237 · 01/02/2022 14:47

@OnceUponAThread are you not going to tell us what the gender is? It doesn’t jinx it I promise!

@susiebluebell that sounds lovely about your partner, I’m constantly moaning and telling my husband it’s all about me haha! Xx

Hi @Tandabear welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. Congratulations and everything crossed for you with this pregnancy!

My epu refused to do scans before 7 weeks as they said it causes anxiety and more chance of seeing a heartbeat at that point. I had a scan at 7 weeks and it was just a blob with a heartbeat so I can’t imagine you being able to see much at 5weeks, they do say it’s around 6 weeks that the heartbeat is detectable from though… sorry if not much help. The early bit is the worst try not to worry and just let the weeks pass! Xx

Loulou237 · 03/02/2022 14:05

@Tandabear also that’s crazy you got pregnant exactly a year later with the same due date too! I hope it’s not triggering for you xxx

itssquidstella · 03/02/2022 15:06

Congratulations @Tandabear.

If you can bear to wait until 7 weeks then I do recommend it - although it's usually possible to see a heartbeat from around 6, you'd only need to be a few days out with your ovulation dates for it to be too early, and then you'd be panicking that something was wrong until you could have a follow up the week later!

Speaking from experience here as I had a scan at what I thought was 6+1 in September after three miscarriages, was dated at around five weeks and was convinced it was another miscarriage. A week later I was 6+4 with a heartbeat (now 24+4).

I took progesterone until 16 weeks this time, and have been on low-side aspirin too. I don't know if it's made a difference - I had one early natural miscarriage, one blighted ovum and one MMC so I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with my body's ability to hold on to a pregnancy - but it can't hurt, and it was helpful to feel like I was doing something even if it wasn't having any real effect.

@Tandabear it was the recurrent miscarriage clinic who said 16 weeks; I don't actually know what the rationale was but I assume it gets you well over the first trimester hurdle and allows the placenta to properly establish itself. I had bad bloating around weeks 7-11 which I think was a side effect but other than that I got off pretty symptom-free!

Hi @Tandabear and welcome! No sage advice to offer but just wanted to say I've been there with the anxiety and second-guessing!

@Tandabear I strongly advise you staying away from the tests they will drive you mad! If one was with fmu and the other in the afternoon that will be why your hormone is more diluted, you will have drunk water during the day so it gets weaker. Also those cb digitals are well known for driving people crazy trying to get a 3+ and they aren’t accurate for how far along you are xx

OnceUponAThread · 04/02/2022 16:23

@Tandabear

Thank you *@susiebluebell* x

I did a CB digital on Monday and it showed 3+ that was with fmu. I did another this afternoon and it’s back to 2-3. I’m thinking afternoon should be showing 3+ by now? Can’t be a good sign 😞

@Tandabear try to avoid the digitals. I was exactly the same as you. And got really panicked when I didn't get 3+ when I expected it. All my scan so far have been fine and progressing nicely.

They're notoriously unreliable and it doesn't mean anything if you flick back and forth between 2 and 3. Loads of people with healthy pregnancies never get to 3+.

(I completely understand the desire to test and the worry though. I was exactly the same x)
