Thanks @morphe - nice to meet a fellow Londoner!

@hwp22 I think it depends on the clinic and where they process the results, but it should be within two weeks of the test. I’ve heard anecdotally that they're usually quicker in contacting people if the results don't look great, though.

@fattycatty82 and @FateHasRedesignedMost Harmony is a brand name for the NIPT test - there are a few available (SAFE and Panorama are some other brand names) but they do essentially the same thing. They give more accurate results than the NHS testing for Down's, Patau and Edwards, which are the three main trisomies. They're still not diagnostic, though, so if you get a very elevated result then you still have to get CVS/amniocentesis if you want to know for certain.

Some tests also look for other chromosomal disorders, but the accuracy rate here is much lower (as low as 20% accuracy where the Down's test is >99% accurate) so I wouldn't bother with any extras - feels like it could create unnecessary extra stress or provide false reassurance.

Occasionally the NHS will offer NIPT testing but it depends on the trust and I’m not sure what the criteria for eligibility is.

fattycatty82 · 28/10/2021 08:10

@itssquidstella thank you very helpful info, sounds like you've done your research! Do you think it's still worth having if the NHS tests show no abnormalities?

itssquidstella · 28/10/2021 08:15

@fattycatty82 I think it's a really personal decision. A lot of 'older' (35+) women choose to get it because the way the NHS calculates your background risk, age is a big factor - so if you're 39, say, you're likely to get quite a 'bad' NHS result just because of your age, even if the nuchal fold measurement etc is okay. If the NHS results come back as 1:10000 then I probably wouldn't bother, though!

I’m getting it because I miscarried my last pregnancy owing to a chromosomal abnormality, and because I’ve booked in late so probably won't get an NHS scan till nearer 14 weeks - if there's a problem then I'd rather know sooner, so I’m having the Harmony at 11 weeks.

Minster2012 · 28/10/2021 08:25

@hwp22 yeah I'm reading the Zoe Clarke book pregnancy after loss & it's helping me, I have a DS who is 3 but my friend carried him for us so I haven't had a successful pregnancy yet 🤞🏻

We had the NIPT test for DS as we couldn't get the nuchal measurements on the 12 week scan, after an hour of trying he just wasn't lying right so we paid for it, also found out the sex then. I'm only going to have it this time if my results are high & then it might be offered by the nhs anyway, I'm also 37 so on the older end too

@robyna my throat feels really dry & I woke up craving water 😂@Sarah239 more like yours I think

I'm going to try get my Covid booster tomorrow too

fattycatty82 · 28/10/2021 08:29

@itssquidstella so much to think about! I hope all your tests go ok xx My scan is at 13 weeks so I'll see what the screening tests come up with and make a decision then. Looks like they're about £400 so not cheap, I hope the NHS ones don't just make me worry for nothing though... seems to be such a stigma to being an older mum but I know people way into their 40s with healthy babies 🤷‍♀️

GinnyBee · 28/10/2021 08:48

The NHS offer NIPT if the combined test comes back with a high risk. For older mums this is apparently quite usual because your age is considered, but then the NIPT will come back with a really low risk.

fattycatty82 · 28/10/2021 08:52

Thanks @GinnyBee x

GinnyBee · 28/10/2021 09:08

I have my first midwife appointment today and then another reassurance scan right after. Getting a bit nervous again. Last scan was two weeks ago at 8+4 which is the exact date when in my previous pregnancy we found no heartbeat, but the embryo was measuring about the right size, so would have probably passed within a day or two before the scan. Today I should be 10+4 and if everything is still fine it will be the furthest I've ever made it! 4.5 hours to go...

aNewYorkerInLondon · 28/10/2021 09:28

Fingers crossed for you @GinnyBee!!!! 🤞🍀

itssquidstella · 28/10/2021 09:30

Good luck @GinnyBee! Let us know how it goes x

Minster2012 · 28/10/2021 10:10

@GinnyBee good luck! I know the worry, I'm similar dates& had reassurance scan similar time and I'm really worried

Anyone else getting crampy or been crampy at just over 10 weeks?? Like actual af type cramps top leg?

EastMidsGem · 28/10/2021 10:45

I have my “12 week scan” today although I’m nearer 13 weeks now and very, very nervous. Last scan was a couple of weeks ago due to spotting pink and brown. Everything was fine at that point. Feel a lot more sick today from nerves I think. It’s at 2.40pm

Positive21 · 28/10/2021 11:03

@GinnyBee I haven't gone for NIPT as I am 31 and first pregnancy, but I am still worried about the NHS results. I'm having my scan and combined tests tomorrow but I know it's at least a two week wait if it's not high risk results.

Good luck today!

@Minster2012 I haven't had any cramps. I get pain when I sneeze 🤦🏼‍♀️ and my nipples are worse but I'm not as tired as I was. I'm hoping it's all ok.

@EastMidsGem Hope today goes quick for you and your scan is all good! Mine is 9.30am tomorrow and I'm definitely anxious again and taking it out on my poor OH 😅

robyna · 28/10/2021 11:10

Good luck @GinnyBee and @EastMidsGem hope everything is ok! I'm distracting myself as I've got a scan tomorrow morning, not my 12 week scan but one of my high risk scans.

YummyMummyXoX · 28/10/2021 11:11

Good luck @EastMidsGem so jealous of everyone's scans! Mine isn't til weds x

fattycatty82 · 28/10/2021 11:14

@EastMidsGem best of luck for today xx

I have another two weeks to wait!!!

hwp22 · 28/10/2021 11:48

@morphe - Thankyou - I guessed around a week - that's going to feel like a month isn't it!
@fattycatty82 & @FateHasRedesignedMost - as far as I understand NIPT & Harmony are the same thing (different from the NHS combined screening) They are 99% accurate. Most of the time you have to pay for NIPT testing but a few hospitals offer it for free under certain circumstances. Unfortunately my hospital don't offer for free at all so I'm paying to have it done. Approx £550 which is an awful lot of money but given my age and risk factors it's worth it for my metal health alone!

fejkalove · 28/10/2021 11:52

@fattycatty82

Welcome everyone 😊 it's lovely to be part of this group

Is anyone else due on May 22nd?

Me ☺️
Zibidee · 28/10/2021 11:56

I had my booking appointment this week and they did want to know some details from my partner, but nothing I wouldn't have been able to answer. Nothing about blood types.
She had to wait outside for the first 10min for the safeguarding part then was invited in.
But she wanted to be there, so I guess its up to you unless they say you can't.

hwp22 · 28/10/2021 12:00

Good luck @EastMidsGem & @GinnyBee for scans today!

I've got a scan Saturday and feel so anxious about it.

@Minster2012 thanks for the info on the book - I might take a look if you recommend it. I've not got any Children yet - I had 2 miscarriages last year which knocked me for 6. Praying this time will be ok!

@robyna - the sour taste I had has improved a-lot recently but was really bad around 6/7 weeks - although coffee still tastes awful! Mostly I just feel nauseas if i'm not eating....so basically snacking my way through the days to keep it at bay! haha! I'm 10w4D xx

robyna · 28/10/2021 12:11

@hwp22 same, I'm struggling to eat anything without feeling awful after. My current saviour is popcorn, it's enough to fill me up but light enough to not make me feel horrendously sick after. My nausea seems a bit better today, but I've felt awful for the past few days so I'm wondering (hoping) it's the placenta starting to take over. Apparently you feel awful for a few days whilst it kicks in? 🤞🏻

Jowd92 · 28/10/2021 12:14

Good luck everyone with there scans should I be worried I still haven’t even received a letter for my scan yet? I’m 10+4

fattycatty82 · 28/10/2021 12:18

@hwp22 I'm so glad you said that about eating... when the sickness comes on the only thing that makes me feel better is having something to eat! Dread to think how big I'll be if I carry on like this.... 😳 also 10+4

Elsie2021 · 28/10/2021 12:43

@Minster2012 Yes! I’m 10+5 and I’ve been getting cramping the last at least week. It’s worried me but I think it’s normal. I try and tell myself it’s the little baby growing.

autumn321 · 28/10/2021 12:48

@Jowd92 I'm 10+1 and haven't had a letter yet. Midwife sent off the referral for a scan last Wednesday but haven't heard yet. Have you had your booking in appointment? Mine was yesterday
