Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.

I am currently 9 weeks and 3 days and am really struggling with bloating! My normal jeans are fine in the morning but by lunch time are extremely uncomfortable and i have to unbutton them.
All the maternity jeans ive seen have the belly band that seems like it would be huge on me at the moment.
Anyone have any advice on things they have found to have helped?

aNewYorkerInLondon · 20/10/2021 14:15

Hi @uptothemoonandstars - nothing valuable here, sadly. My jeans got retired my jeans due to bloat super early - 5 weeks!! They buttoned and looked OK, they were just so uncomfortable. I've been living in dresses and soft jersey trousers.

GinnyBee · 20/10/2021 15:25

@uptothemoonandstars same here! I've been looking at those little extenders that are like an extra button attached to a strip of cloth that would give an extra inch or two, for now that should be enough to give me the extra space. Haven't ordered them yet though. If you search for jeans waist extender on Amazon you should find loads!

LouNewMum · 20/10/2021 19:24

Hi all,

I only found Mums et by chance & by god, thank god I did! Thankful to be joining this group (& have jst submitted FB request).

Am 9 weeks, had HORRRENDOUS nausea & cramps for the past 2 weeks, particularly keeping me up at night. And tbh it ruined a pre-booked trip to Paris 😕 but feeling a lot better now.

Looking forward to the 12wk scan so it actually feels real, right now I feel like I could get a call from the hospital any minute to say “you’re not actually pregnant…” 🤣🤣

Also, in the midst of looking / buying a bigger house, so it’s all go! Xx

Sarah239 · 20/10/2021 20:15

@LouNewMum welcome! I relate to this so much... constantly feel like someone will pinch me at some point and I'll wake up and realise I am not actually pregnant!

We are also thinking about moving house but everything feels a bit up in the air at the moment! Don't want to tempt fate or cause too much stress. We might try and just do our house up a bit to sell but not look to move until a few months after pregnancy. Good luck with your move.

LouNewMum · 20/10/2021 20:26

Thx Sarah, we live in a tiny 1bed in London, with a tiny kitchen/living room (originally I had bought jst for myself, before we met) so we’d really struggle with a baby too! But yes you’re right, the stress is going to be tricky Confused

Does anyone know if sumatriptan is safe in pregnancy? Thanks

cloudpopbump · 21/10/2021 07:41

Hi guys, looking back through some of your messages and I've not heard of a NIPT test before. For those of you having it are you getting it on the nhs or privately? Thanks x

Hbythesea · 21/10/2021 08:51

Morning everyone!
I wondered if anybody could help me please? I have my first appointment at the hospital on Saturday, it says it's screening and then the booking in appointment will be done over the phone
Does anybody know what will happen at the screening appointment please?
Thank you! Smile

EastMidsGem · 21/10/2021 10:23

@Minster2012 I’m not sure, though would love to know myself as had an awful migraine yesterday and the night before. I’m normally prescribed sumatriptan for menstrual migraines but haven’t had any migraines up until that since becoming pregnant. I decided just to take paracetamol though I have to say it’s still lingering today so that paracetamol really doesn’t cut it

Minster2012 · 21/10/2021 10:26

@cloudpopbump you can only get a NIPT test on the nhs if your risk level from the nuchal screening measurements at your nuchal/dating scan. Otherwise it's private only

aNewYorkerInLondon · 21/10/2021 11:44

@EastMidsGem and @Minster2012 - before being pregnant, I had a zolmitriptan prescription on hand for migraines. Once pregnant, my doc prescribed sumatriptan to replace it. She said it doesn't work quite as effectively as zolmitriptan but sumatriptan it is safe in pregnancy (and zolmitriptan is definitely not.)

That said, I had a migraine at about 9 or 10 weeks and I used paracetamol, dark room, cold compresses, and ear plugs. I was nervous to try a medicine I had never had before, plus I was still in first trimester. I think if I get a migraine in the second or third, I will definitely take the sumatriptan, because there is also risk in just riding out the pain/nausea (BP, cortisol, adrenalin, dehydration, etc.).

I would definitely clear it with your doctor first, but mine said it is OK.

LeeRainbow · 21/10/2021 12:08

@uptothemoonandstars i am 11w5d and have been living in leggings for last few weeks, also stretchy dresses and tights, jeans are old news, however my stomach has started going hard now so think will look into some maternity jeans and clothes over next few weeks as only going to get bigger and already struggling with my tops not long enough for bump.

Bubbasmama2017 · 21/10/2021 12:38

I've just ordered some tapered Jersey trousers from m&s hoping they'll be comfy but smart.

morphe · 21/10/2021 12:39

@cloudpopbump I am having my NIPT done privately. I am 42 so my risk level is higher.

@LouNewMum welcome! We will be looking into moving house next year, we have a DD who will start school next year so we want to wait until we find out where she gets a place first. I really wish we could move before the baby gets here, I'm sure it would be easier to move when pregnant than with a small baby!

@uptothemoonandstars you can use hairbands as a stopgap to extend jeans/trousers. I'm wearing joggers at home but sticking with jeans outdoors at the moment, I'll probably give in to the maternity jeans soon!

Bubbasmama2017 · 21/10/2021 12:39

Is anyone else constipated? What can we take? It's making my nausea so much worse

GinnyBee · 21/10/2021 12:58

@Bubbasmama2017 yep, me! I used to be super regular, but now not so much. When I go I have to strain, and it's not daily anymore. I don't know what I can take though, every Google result suggests drinking lots of water and eating fruit and veg which I already do anyway. It's super annoying but at least it's not painful or uncomfortable for me at the moment. I'm hoping once I can stop taking extra progesterone it'll help a bit. I also find I have to eat much smaller meals than what I'm used to, larger portions make me feel like crap possibly because my digestive system just can't handle it.

aNewYorkerInLondon · 21/10/2021 13:03

@Bubbasmama2017 - this sounds old fashioned, and I know some ladies on here have heard me say it before, but a daily bowl of porridge (not instant) can really work miracles for constipation.

I had a terrible gut infection about six years ago that left me with lots of problems in this department. It may take a few days to work the first time, but I find that if I have porridge (I just buy the plain Scottish porridge oats from Sainsbury) every morning, I stay super regular with daily results. If I slack off, things become unpleasant.

Hope91 · 21/10/2021 13:07

@Bubbasmama2017 I was literally about to ask this question. I am massively and it’s making me feel more nauseous too. I text my midwife this morning and she recommended Lactulose she said “it’s safe for use in pregnancy and you can grab some from over the counter at a pharmacist”. So I’m going to go and get some this eve as all 1st trimester I’ve either been sick and constipated or not sick but had diarrhoea. Horrendous really. Got to laugh or you cry lol x

Bubbasmama2017 · 21/10/2021 13:11

Thanks everyone!
@aNewYorkerInLondon I do find porridge in the morning helps way more than a piece of toast or similar.
I'm going to really try and up my fruit and veg when I can although I've got an aversion to a lot of them at the moment.
Will try and get some lactulose this evening! Only been sick once so far today so maybe it's getting better? Fingers crossed!

EastMidsGem · 21/10/2021 14:09

@aNewYorkerInLondon Thank you for that - I will definitely run it past the doctor as I’ve never had to put up with it longer than 24 hours before and it was awful! It has finally gone and the thing that seemed to make it go away in the end… was being sick! I thought that would make it worse so I was avoiding it as you know the heaving makes your head pound but it was like a switch had been flicked after. Suddenly gone. Very strange

LouNewMum · 21/10/2021 15:39

How are people dealing with feeling rough but not bng able to/not wanting to tell work yet (I’m waiting until Dec/jan, but it means I can’t share when I’m feeling crappy)??

Similarly with friends, I want to wait until at least 12 wks if not more, but the invites for ‘drinks’ are becoming hard to stave off! 😬 Am typically still going but jst saying I’m having a break from booze & excuse me if I look & feel like crap 🤣🤣

LS2020 · 21/10/2021 16:15

@Bubbasmama2017 I’ve been using fybogel which is safe for pregnancy, won’t make you go as quick as a laxative but better for “every day use” - the orange one tastes fine as long as you get down quick! Grapes for some reason always get me going so try some different fruit out 🙂

@LouNewMum I told my boss early as she’s a mum of 2 and she’s been a brilliant help with wfh and doing odd hours, the week before my annual leave she approved me doing a flexed 5 day week instead of 4 day so I could come on later in the day after I’d been unwell and got some more sleep. I think you can ask them to keep confidential too until you’re ready to share.
Mines been made easier by being on holiday weeks 10-12 so I’ve been putting off drinks til “when I’m back” and means I’ll be 13 weeks at least. Can you pretend to have covid to buy you two weeks? 😂

Ashleighz88 · 21/10/2021 16:15

@LouNewMum I've found it impossible so I had to tell work as I was hospitalised early on. Only HR and my manager (and his manager) know at work though.

In terms of friends I've had to cancel drinking plans and say I haven't been well, if I say I'm not drinking I might aswell just tell them I'm pregnant as it will be obvious 🙈

When will you be 12 weeks. I'm nearly 10 weeks so I'm so glad I'll be able to tell people before all the Christmas nights out and plans start!
