Hi everyone made a new thread for all the ladies due end of March beginning of April 2022. We are coming to the end of the first trimester, some of you have already crossed that important milestone! Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

Forgot to ask at the time @Catconfusion, did you need to take the antibiotics in the end?

How's everyone doing? Can't believe I'm 24 weeks now. In the eyes of the law, this is an actual baby now. Kicks are definitely getting stronger, though DH hasn't been able to feel them yet. DD refused to move during her bump phase when he was trying to feel movement, despite doing her utmost to kick my liver into submission at all other rimes. Hopefully it's not history repeating itself. Started whacking my bump on things too 🤦🏻‍♀️. Sorted my maternity leave today with my manager as well. Still to be determined if my last day will be 31st of this month (last shift before 28 weeks, NHS), or my official one of 28th February. See what HR have to say.

Catconfusion · 06/12/2021 20:52

@dyra thanks for asking. The sample for negative for an infection so I’d have taken the antibiotics for no reason. I still can’t believe the gp didn’t do a dip test at least. I didn’t take them and I’m glad I didn’t. I think it’s just pregnancy related discomfort. I’m drinking plenty of water.

Congratulations on getting to 24 weeks. It’s such an important milestone. I’m 24 weeks on Thursday. It’s so lovely to know the baby is viable. Glad to hear you’re getting lots of kicks. Hopefully your partner will feel soon. Xx

Caass45 · 06/12/2021 21:13

I was just wondering if it was just me who's OH hadnt felt baby move yet @Dyra. She seems to kick me loads but even when he has hand on bump and I feel her move he says he can't feel anything. Thought maybe it was related to having an anterior placenta. We will be 24 weeks tomorrow ☺ time goes so fast!

Catconfusion · 07/12/2021 07:33

@Caass45 it probably is the anterior placenta. I had one with my son and it was much later when my DH finally felt him move. With this baby my DH has felt her for the last few weeks. I’m 24 weeks on Thursday with a posterior placenta. The difference in movements is insane. Xx

Dyra · 07/12/2021 08:17

I think it's a combination of anterior placenta, and naughty babies for me. It was weird with DD. She could be dancing away wildly, but the second DH tried to feel it, she'd stop. With this one it's similar. Still mostly feeling movement at the sides, but starting to feel some stuff centrally now too. I think this baby is also less wriggly than DD was. But again, whenever DH tries to feel? No kicks at all. Nothing.

Glad your results came back negative Catconfusion. Incredible your GP didn't even do a dip. Nevermind the whole contributing to antibiotic resistance, but surely just checking to see if there's antibodies in your urine first would have cost the NHS less money. Urgh. I'm going to invest in my own dip sticks for the future.

Scoaf · 07/12/2021 09:47

Hi All.
Glad everyone is doing well.
24+1 for me now and feeling baby move alot more now. OH has started to feel some of the bigger kicks occasionally but not all the time.
Like you say these naughty babas seem to stop as soon as anyone tries to feel.
Im starting to feel really bloated all the time and my bump seems quite hard alot of the time. Anyone else? Feel like ive got a football shoved up my top 🙈
Im quite petite and people keep asking me how many im having as my bump is quite round.
Does anyone mind me asking how much weight they have put on so far? Xx

MiracleBaby2022 · 07/12/2021 13:16

@Scoaf oh yes severe bloating and constipation right from day 1 for me. And I've been asked if I was having twins numerous times since I was 17 weeks, I'm petite too and the bump is just huge. I've put on about 3.5kg so far - I'm 24 weeks today.

Nats7504 · 07/12/2021 20:04

@Scoaf I’m 25+1 and put on 15lbs so far, no idea if this is too much or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

Baby parties most nights and OH can feel him, this is my 3rd pregnancy though so no doubt my stomach muscles are knackered 🤣

Caass45 · 07/12/2021 20:28

I am 24 weeks today I last checked my weight about a week ago and used gained 3kg. I think I might have lost a little in the first few months being sick though. I feel like my bump is huge but I suppose that's cause this is my first. Everyone else says it's quite small 🤷‍♀️

Dyra · 07/12/2021 21:05

I'm up 4-5kg. But I shouldn't really be gaining much because already obese.

Scoaf · 08/12/2021 06:53

Just me over here then with my 9kg gain then😱

@miraclebaby2022 yes bloating it ridiculous feel like a beach ball. Have you found anything that helps? Im so uncomfortable. X

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 06:59

@Scoaf ooh well the average weight gain is supposed to be around 10kg in total but I'm sure this varies a lot depending on body shape etc. As long as you're eating healthily I wouldn't worry too much about it.

For the constipation the only thing I found that worked (much better than drugs in fact) was prune juice. I just make sure I have one glass every day and it's ok now. For the bloating, I used to avoid wheat but I've sort of given up on that now and just accepted the discomfort. I think eating smaller meals would probably help, but I've got a big appetite 😁

Scoaf · 08/12/2021 08:22

Haha dont think ill manage to keep it to 1kg in 16 weeks 🙈
I was shocked when i got on the scales as im just all bump. A big bump but still.
Oh great thanks, ill be getting dome prune juice later.
Yes ive tried the smaller portions but not really going well 🤣 i ate very healthily before i was pregnant and was 53kg, but 1st trimester all i wanted was beige foods and my healthy eating has gone out the window.

Yes

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 08:28

@Scoaf haha I know how you feel. We're both exactly the same weight actually, and if you've got the constipation as badly as I did, I actually lost 1.5kgs as soon as the prune juice started doing its job. The over the counter constipation drugs did nothing whatsoever strangely. So it might be that some of your extra weight gain is that - plus as you say starchy food, that's a big no no for me, the kilo's just pile on by the hour. The only way I managed to avoid that was by not buying any of it, and instead plan for more wholesome meals. Easier said than done though...

Scoaf · 08/12/2021 08:38

@MiracleBaby2022
Yes ive been taking Fybrogel but doesnt seemed to have helped.
Im going to try eating smaller portions today and a trip to the shops after work for some more fresh fruit and prune juice.
Thanks for your advice 🙃

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 08:58

@Scoaf let me know how you get on 😊

time2tork · 08/12/2021 09:06

I was 53kg before pregnancy too! I'm 25 weeks now and 4 weeks ago I weight 56kg and I'm now NOT going back on the scales. My mental health cannot cope with it. Only 3 months left and I'll be well enough to deal with it. No point when I'm still nauseas and need bread.

Dyra · 08/12/2021 13:10

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. Weight gain is very individual and can vary greatly from woman to woman. If not pregnancy to pregnancy! First pregnancy I gained nearly 15kg (and still had a month to go), but a vast amount of it was water weight. A week or so of post partum night sweats, and most of that weight was gone.

I would love to weigh what you guys do. I love food and carbs far too much to do so though. 🤣

Countingchicks · 08/12/2021 15:51

@Scoaf I've put on 8kg. Was 71.4 to start with but I'm tall. Really knocks the confidence as I was overweight in the past at 86kg my heaviest and worked so hard to get it down and kept it down for ten years and now it's just piling on.

Pac35 · 09/12/2021 08:41

I've put on 4kg. My bump has really popped out this week and the movements are crazy! I'm 26 weeks.

This week I made homemade granola and was having that with yogurt & fruit for breakfast. Didn't poo for 3 days! Went back to trusty weetabix and eating a few prunes at night and all back to normal now Smile I swear weetabix is the answer! My sister who is a nutritional therapist says kiwis are also really good.

Has anyone bought anything yet? My mum bought me a couple of baby gros and it was a bit overwhelming! We haven't bought anything yet. Starting to look though. Think we'll wait for the sales

Caass45 · 09/12/2021 08:53

@Pac35 everyone is so different with weight gain etc during pregnancy. I'm trying not to focus too much on it as long as I feel good and baby measures well.

Oh my goodness I've got half a wardrobe full of stuff already 🙈 my sister has loads of clothes from her daughter to hand down but keeps buying me more haha but big things like car seats etc I'm going to try and get in the sales 🤞

MiracleBaby2022 · 09/12/2021 09:24

@Pac35 oh my goodness, you've not bought anything yet? I feel really bad now, I've done nothing but shopping the last two months 😂

morningvenus · 09/12/2021 13:24

Hey All, glad I found this thread :) Hope you all are doing fine / trying to cope as best as you can!

I am 24 weeks. The due date is the end of March

I have some sleeping troubles. I can hardly sleep at night due to leg cramps. During the day they are better. I have extreme fatigue & extreme hair loss too, but that could be due to low hemoglobin. Mine is 97 and the range is 115-something. I am taking iron tablets prescribed by my GP. The hbg doesn't increase but has been stable around 100 since pregnancy started.

Also, I have been worried a bit about baby movements (Midwife says it's normal for this stage). But I thought it'll be good to hear your experiences too, so sharing mine.
I felt some baby movements just before my 20 wk scan. Then nothing for a few days but the baby was fine during the scan. Since the last few days, I started to feel movements again. Somedays I feel lots of strong movements & on others very very light or perhaps just one-two kicks a day. I spoke to the midwife and she said it's normal at this stage, but I should go to the hospital if it worries me.
How do I know what's normal vs what is not? I sometimes feel if I just focus on reduced movements, then I'll be at the hospital like 2-3 times a week.

Please share your experiences with me. Also, any advice & tips will be really really appreciated.

Caass45 · 09/12/2021 13:40

Welcome @morningvenus ! Congrats firstly.

I dont have much experience with low hemoglobin. My sleep issues are struggling to get used to sleeping on my side!

I have the exact same with my baby movements. I'm 24+2. Some days she seems very active some days I hardly feel her. At my last appointment the midwife said to monitor her movements from weeks 24-28 and they should settle into a kind of routine. 28 onwards baby's pattern should be more obvious. Its so easy to worry when I don't feel much for a day or 2 but she always makes up for it 😅Hope this helps.

SouthwestSis · 09/12/2021 13:50

Don't worry too much about the pattern of movements if you are only 24w as this does settle into something a lot more regular by 27-28weeks and you'll get to know the habits of your little ones movements better!

As for low iron, having your medication with orange juice can help (vitamin C) and try and eat more iron rich foods, dried apricots, brocoli, spinach, lentils and beans, eggs,
