Hi everyone made a new thread for all the ladies due end of March beginning of April 2022. We are coming to the end of the first trimester, some of you have already crossed that important milestone! Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

Thanks @Dyra yes I think that’s what I will do. My symptoms are much milder today so I’m not convinced it’s a full on infection. The study coordinator has emailed to say do the sample before I take them and she will check I can still be a participant if I need the antibiotics. If I felt like I had a raging infection of course I’d take them but it’s such a shame to withdraw if I haven’t even got an infection which the labs may well show on Thursday. Xx

Morning 👋 hope you don’t mind me joining. I’m expecting my first baby in mid March! Wondering when everyone is planning on going on maternity leave? I literally have just started a new job but need to start thinking about this soon ..! X

Catconfusion · 30/11/2021 07:53

Welcome @HopefulRose I’m a sahm for the moment due my second at the end of March. I think it’s a personal choice and depends on circumstances. Are there any complications in the pregnancy? Are you feeling well? Will it be a natural birth? I think if I was working I’d want four weeks before the baby is due to prepare and just in case they come early. Some people would rather work up to the baby coming and take more time off after. All depends how you’re feeling? Xx

Dyra · 30/11/2021 08:45

Hi @HopefulRose. Welcome! And congratulations! What date are you due? What number baby is this for you? Do you know what you're expecting?

In regards to maternity leave. I worked all this out yesterday for myself.

So... I am taking all my remaining annual leave for this year, and choosing to begin my maternity leave a little earlier. So mat leave is beginning Mon. 21st March, (due 27th) and annual leave from Tues. 1st March. I don't have quite enough annual leave to cover the Monday as well. grumps

All that is, hopefully, moot. As I work for the NHS, the Covid policy for my trust is still for pregnant women to work from home or be suspended on full pay from 28 weeks. Which for me will be 3rd January. Still have to calculate the rest though. For HR. 🙄

I will be taking the full year off. I am also in the very fortunate position where NHS annual leave entitlement resets in April. So there's an entire year's worth of AL to take before returning from maternity! I will cut short the unpaid portion of mat leave and take AL so it finishes just before the new allocation starts (Mon. 13th February - Fri. 31st March). Therefore, my first day back will be Mon. 3rd April 2023.

Still need to run it all by my boss to make sure dates are correct (they like things ending on Sundays iirc), but the overall basics are still there.

I'm due mid March too and going on maternity leave end of February. I have a very full-on job where I'm on my feet walking all day in a busy environment (don't work from home).
Nats7504 · 30/11/2021 10:29

@HopefulRose Welcome lovely!

I’m due 21st March and hoping to finish at 37 weeks, taking 3 weeks annual leave and officially starting my maternity leave on my due date.

Regarding going back, I don’t think I’ll be able to afford to take the full year off but haven’t fully looked into the finances to see what is doable. OH and I had an argument over it yesterday as he told me to just take a year off and we’ll cope but I’m a planner!

MiracleBaby2022 · 30/11/2021 17:08

@Catconfusion just to update you on my meeting with the obstetrician - they're going to do growth scans at week 24, 28, 32, 36 and 39 and if nothing happened by then I'll be induced in week 40. Very relieved they're giving me all these scans!

Catconfusion · 30/11/2021 17:39

@MiracleBaby2022 that’s amazing news. I’m so pleased they’ll be monitoring you carefully. Chances are you’ll be fine but at least you’ll have a heads up if there are any issues. I’ve definitely felt reassured that I’m having the extra scans. I think all women should have at least one extra scan to check blood flow and growth. Xx

MiracleBaby2022 · 30/11/2021 18:55

@Catconfusion yes I was very surprised there's only 2 scans normally! Can't wait to see the little girl next week 🥰🤎 xx

Catconfusion · 30/11/2021 21:21

@MiracleBaby2022 how exciting. Are you getting lots of movement? Xx

MiracleBaby2022 · 30/11/2021 23:33

@Catconfusion yes my little girl seems determined to get a black belt in Kung Fu before she's born! 😂 How about you?

Catconfusion · 01/12/2021 04:23

@MiracleBaby2022 that’s really reassuring for you. Yes I’m getting near constant movement now. It wasn’t like this with my ds as I had an anterior placenta. This time it’s posterior so she’s moving loads. It’s affecting my sleep so I’m a bit like a zombie but I’m a lot more anxious this time so I’m glad of it overall. Xx

MiracleBaby2022 · 01/12/2021 08:41

@Catconfusion ahh mine is 'posterior high' it says. Perhaps that's why I've felt her moving from very early on? Have no idea about these things being a first time mum!

Catconfusion · 01/12/2021 09:41

@MiracleBaby2022 yes that’ll be why you’re getting movement earlier. I was past 20 weeks before I felt my son and he was big too so it’s a very different experience. I felt flutters with this one at 12 weeks. Have you had your Covid booster? Xx

Catconfusion · 01/12/2021 09:44

I was just wondering if anyone else had two doses of Astra Zeneca before they fell pregnant and has had the Pfizer booster during pregnancy? I’ve heard the side effects are worse. I’ve got mine tomorrow and I’m so sensitive to vaccines. I was really ill after my normal flu jab which was a surprise. The plan is to just pregame with paracetamol and hope it’s not too bad. Xx

Dyra · 01/12/2021 12:06

That would be me @Catconfusion. Zero side effects with the Pfizer booster. Barely even a sore arm. Hope it's the same for you.

Nats7504 · 01/12/2021 12:19

@Catconfusion I had my first two vaccines before I fell pregnant, both were AZ and I had the Pfizer booster last week. Felt a bit achy and tired for a few days but felt fine other than that.

MiracleBaby2022 · 01/12/2021 13:38

@Catconfusion ah that explains it then. Not yet, but I've got it booked for January 13th, hoping I'll be able to one sooner now that they're rolling it out earlier than 6 months past your previous one! If so, I'll change the date. Especially as I've just started swimming at the local pool and feel very wary of catching Covid while there... 😬 xx

MiracleBaby2022 · 01/12/2021 13:41

@Catconfusion I had my first dose of AZ vaccine before I was pregnant, the second dose whilst pregnant and didn't know I was. The booster will be a Moderna in January, my partner had quite a reaction to the Moderna booster (flu symptoms) but I've heard with the Pfizer people aren't getting many, if any, side effects.

Derbee · 01/12/2021 13:43

I had Pfizer both times. Booster due 4th Feb, so getting it sometime in Jan will be ideal really. Feel so relieved that we’re getting boosters!

Catconfusion · 01/12/2021 15:04

Thank you ladies. Yes it’s amazing we’re able to get covered. Glad you hear those who had it felt reasonably ok. I just can’t wait to get it over with now. I seem to be very sensitive to these things so hoping it’ll be different this time. Pfizer does seem quite mild with regards to symptoms. Hoping those who haven’t had it can get in soon. Xx

Derbee · 01/12/2021 15:41

Just be careful about taking paracetamol in advance. It’s known to detrimentally affect the efficacy of the flu vaccine. Although they don’t know about the covid vaccine yet, it’s worth bearing in mind. I’ve always been advised by the medical people in my life not to take preventative medication before a vaccine.

Catconfusion · 02/12/2021 16:57

Oh really, that’s odd. I told the vaccination nurse I had a bad reaction to the flu jab and she asked if I’d taken paracetamol earlier and advised to keep taking every 4 hours for the rest of today. I can’t find any evidence it lowers the immune response so it seems just a precaution in case. I’ve needed paracetamol for my arthritis today anyway.

Dyra · 03/12/2021 18:03

Did you have any reaction to the jab in the end @Catconfusion?

Catconfusion · 03/12/2021 21:33

I was ok last night thanks. For once I actually slept pretty much through the night. Today I be woke up feeling sick again. I had hyperemesis earlier in the pregnancy and it felt very much like before. Not sure if it’s anything to do with the booster. This afternoon I’ve felt wiped out so I think I’ve had a mild reaction to it. I’m sure I’ll be fine in the morning. It certainly wasn’t as bad as the normal flu jab after which I had a high temperature. Overall I’m relieved I’ve now had it. X
