Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

@morningvenus get some spatone for the iron rather than taking iron tablets.

Tonic water for the leg cramps!

Dyra · 09/12/2021 15:32

Welcome @morningvenus! No experience with low haemoglobin or iron. Leg cramps however I do. The main thing is to keep them warm while asleep. Long legged pyjamas, extra blanket across your legs, warm room. Then get extra potassium where you can. I detest bananas, so I drink a glass of orange juice every day (helps with iron absorption too!), and try to eat more broccoli.

As for movements, it's very early days still to be establishing a pattern. It's also not how much they move, but what is normal for them. Times of day, triggers, and style of movement. For example, with DD, she much preferred kicking. Didn't take much to set her off either... She was most active in the afternoon/evening, not at all overnight, and stretched most in the morning.
This one is much less active (might be I'm feeling less still due to anterior placenta). Also prefers kicking. Especially my right hand side. Most active so far in the evening/night, but usually gives me a ping to let me know they're still there every few hours. I get absolutely nothing in the mornings, but at mealtimes, especially dinner, and especially after I've eaten dairy, I get very noticeable wriggling.

Hi everyone, sorry I’ve been a bit mia recently. I have been fighting an awful anxiety, I believe it is due to the hormones. We are expecting a little boy :) 23+4 days. I do worry about him a lot as I can hardly feel any movements yet due to anterior placenta.

In terms of leg cramps, I’ve been told by my consultant (went privately) that I might be lacking magnesium so have been trying to supplement that. For iron, I was having two smoothies a week with organic spinach, one pear and a bit of orange juice. I believe it did the trick as my midwife said my iron levels were excellent. I was a bit worried about it as I had a few episodes of anemia in the past. I hope that’s hwlpful. I am glad everyone is doing well :)

Nats7504 · 10/12/2021 11:37

Morning ladies - Happy Friday 😊

Has anyone had their 25 week midwife appointment yet? I had mine this morning (I’m 25+4) and was wondering what they had done etc.

Dyra · 10/12/2021 11:45

You're our trailblazer @Nats7504! 😄 We're all due after you. Mine's next week (and with the GP), but it's just a standard appointment iirc. Blood pressure, urine dip, quick chat about how things are going. Should listen in on baby with the sonicaid too. I don't think they do fundal measurement at 25 weeks. Think that's from 28 weeks, but I might be wrong.

Nats7504 · 10/12/2021 11:53

@Dyra Ahh… 🤣

Maybe I’m not the best person to set the standard as mine was very underwhelming 🙈 My normal midwife is now on long term sick so my replacement for the foreseeable is a midwife from labour ward. She did the usual wee sample and blood pressure. Told me that she’d see me at 31 weeks as I have a growth scan at 28 weeks so the hospital can do the rest of checks and bloods? No listening to babies heartbeat or measuring mentioned. Then as I was leaving she said I should be having growth scans from 32 weeks, not 28 weeks. So she’ll see if I really need it or not but no mention of bringing my appointment earlier if that’s the case 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dyra · 10/12/2021 12:07

That's a bit mean not to listen in on the heartbeat. Shame your normal midwife is off sick. IME, labour ward midwives don't really want to do community, and vice versa.

I think you should be getting the midwife appointment at 28 weeks though. I had a growth scan at 28 weeks with DD, as well the midwife appointment. Though I did have the GTT at the same time then. The scan was just the scan. No bloods or other checks done. I would definitely try to get one booked in. It's tough for the midwives I know, because it's the Christmas period, but tough beans.

Forgive me, as I've forgotten why you're getting growth scans. I know how many depends on which "pathway" you're on (assuming it's standardised across trusts). Last time I was D, this time A. One of the pathways (C? Not near my notes to check) is 32 and 36 weeks though, so she could be correct. Hopefully you still get the 28 week scan anyway.

Updated list. I've done some detective/guesswork with you @morningvenus. If I've gotten anything wrong, please correct me.

Nats7504 · 10/12/2021 12:22

@Dyra I’m clueless! My youngest is 11 and antenatal care is so different this time round. You’re kind of left to your own devices it seems. That makes sense, she didn’t seem happy to be doing community and made sure to tell me numerous times! 🙄

I’m having growth scans due to my 2 previous boys being SGA. I just attend the appointments I’m sent. 🤷🏻‍♀️ If she wants the scan cancelled then shouldn’t she should start to monitor my growth? It’s a minefield!

Caass45 · 10/12/2021 12:47

I haven't had any word about a 25 week appointment. I had a 22 week midwife appointment and my next one isn't until Jan 4th when I'll be 28 weeks 🤔

Dyra · 10/12/2021 14:43

@Caass45 Pretty sure your 22 week appointment is the equivalent to our 25 week one. Think it's just a basic one that can be done at any point between 20 and 25. Pretty much only for FTMs and high(er) risk pregnancies.

@Nats7504 Just looked at my notes. Looks like your new midwife would be in the right. Previous SGA babies would be pathway C (no idea what B is), so scans at 32 and 36. Definitely means you should be getting a 28 week midwife appointment then. But then I still think you should be getting one, even if you had a scan.

Definitely feels like we are left to our own devices now. Even more so with Covid. Guess they only really start to care once you're in the third trimester.

Caass45 · 10/12/2021 14:52

@Dyra oh thank you this puts my mind at rest! Think I'll call the midwives later anyways as I've had some pain in my rib area right side on and off for a few days now. Rather just check its not a worry

MiracleBaby2022 · 10/12/2021 15:55

Hi everyone -

just thought I'd say I had my 24 week scan yesterday - and everything looks good. Lots of interesting measurements I didn't even know they could do, like the blood flow going through the umbilical cord - fascinating!

Unfortunately the cheeky little thing had turned her back to the camera and was in a breach position so couldn't really get a good view of her (no pictures), but hopefully in January we'll get to see a better view of her then 💕

Caass45 · 11/12/2021 00:32

@MiracleBaby2022 glad baby is doing well even if being a bit shy!

I'm not sure if this is normal or not but I called maternity triage today due to my side pain. 10 calls went unanswered. 11th call was answered then left on hold for 30 minutes. Advised to go into the hospital for a check up and sat in the waiting room for 3hours 45 mins before being taken. Is this a normal time frame? Never had to call them before. I got home at midnight and I'm so tired and have work at 9 tomorrow 😴

MiracleBaby2022 · 11/12/2021 12:55

@Caass45 around where I live it's certainly waiting times like that! I also got pains under my lower rib cage, on both sides, but I just assumed it's the pressure from the baby and growing uterus. Mostly only hurts when I lie on my side, making it difficult to sleep unless I'm on my back. Is it something similar to what I have?

Caass45 · 11/12/2021 12:59

@MiracleBaby2022 it is pain only on the right side right in at my ribs. Yesterday it got very painful hence the call. It comes and goes though but the doctor was happy with me and thinks it's just muscular pain due to the muscles being more relaxed. Couldn't believe the wait time. My oh ended up in a&e 2 months ago and waited less time. But were all good so that's the main thing.

MiracleBaby2022 · 11/12/2021 13:02

@Caass45 yes glad you're ok. Muscle pains could explain it I suppose. I'll have to ask my midwife about it next week, I've had it every night for about two weeks now

Caass45 · 11/12/2021 13:06

@MiracleBaby2022 it could be the same thing for sure. The doctor advised me to ensure I only sleep on my left because I must be agitating the muscles on the right lying on them. There's really nothing worse than disturbed sleep is there? I know we will have to get used to it but still 😅

MiracleBaby2022 · 11/12/2021 15:52

@Caass45 yes although mine's on both sides which forces me to sleep on my back, and we're not supposed to sleep on our backs when pregnant. I don't really have much choice though.

Caass45 · 11/12/2021 21:51

@MiracleBaby2022 absolutely that sounds dreadful! See what midwife says at your next appointment hopefully they have some suggestions

SouthwestSis · 12/12/2021 19:47

FYI covid booster jab booking is now open for >30s in England and Scotland, not sure about NI or Wales but deffo go and get one if you are >3 months out from your 2nd jab
