Hi everyone made a new thread for all the ladies due end of March beginning of April 2022. We are coming to the end of the first trimester, some of you have already crossed that important milestone! Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

Ah congratulations @bubblybrit We’re similar as we have a toddler boy so would like to do a big clear out if it’s a girl. If it’s a boy we have everything we need. I think we’ll wait for 20 weeks to know for sure but as I said, just feel it’s a girl. Xx

FirstTimer22 · 25/09/2021 16:15

Hi ladies,

Thought I'd join if that's ok. I'm due 29th March so 13 1/2 weeks. Nausea has eased but still having chronic diarrhoea which I've had for about 6-7 weeks now 😩 has anyone else struggled with this? I've literally cut out all fruit and veg to make it more cope-able and I'm still really struggling.

Very grateful all ok with our little wriggly bean so far though ❤️ lovely to see all your scan pics too

@FirstTimer22 aww bless you. I've not had the same problem as such but definitely struggled with going and feeling constipated. The hormones can really mess with the tummy. I started taking probiotics now my sickness has died down. Might be worth it to see if it helps. These are the ones I have...

bubblybrit · 25/09/2021 17:20

Thanks @Catconfusion. I would have liked a complete surprise this time round but it made practical sense to find out beforehand. I thought I was having a boy both times and ended up with girls lol 😂 will be good to see if your hunch is correct! X

bubblybrit · 25/09/2021 17:23

Welcome @FirstTimer22. I had really bad diarrhoea for the first 3-4 weeks so you have my sympathies. I was lucky that it just seemed to go away on its own but like you I had to cut out a lot from my diet as it made it worse if I ate certain food x

FirstTimer22 · 25/09/2021 18:46

Thanks both! Nobody tells you that diarrhoea could be a thing do they!

@Catconfusion I was thinking about trying probiotics but I'm scared to have anything other than white bread/mashed potato/pasta etc at the mo in case it has the opposite effect! But I'm so desperate with it now think I may have to give probiotics a try. It's just so exhausting, had a right old cry to hubby this afternoon 😬😂

@bubblybrit sounds like you had it bad too! Out of interest have you ever had IBS? It's getting to a point now where my morning sickness has really improved but not the diarrhoea so I'm wondering if this could be IBS now. I'm usually constipated with IBS but maybe the hormones have made it go to the other extreme 🤷🏻‍♀️

X

bubblybrit · 25/09/2021 18:58

I had no idea either @FirstTimer22! I’ve never had IBS so it seemed to just have been a really unpleasant side effect of early pregnancy for me.

Catconfusion · 25/09/2021 19:11

@FirstTimer22 bless you, I’m sorry it’s so bad. I had it worse when I was pregnant with my son but then I’d been getting IBS symptoms in the run up to that pregnancy. It’s been more the other this time. I’d definitely give the probiotics a go. The ones I sent you the link for were part of a big study on pregnant women and are safe to take. I hope it improves soon now you’re a bit further a long. Xx

FirstTimer22 · 25/09/2021 21:58

Thanks both! It is reassuring to hear I'm not alone in it but I seem to have had it a lot longer than most! I will definitely give the probiotics a go. It's my first pregnancy as well... think I had visions of being this earthy yoga mum while pregnant but in reality I've spent most the time in my pjs on the sofa or on the loo 🙈😂

On a lighter note is anyone finding out the baby's sex? I'm thinking of doing an early gender scan to check well-being as seems such a long gap to 20 weeks and will be a bonus to find that out too. I really feel like I'm having a boy for some reason but I have no foundation for that at all and would be so happy with either!

Catconfusion · 26/09/2021 09:30

@FirstTimer22 it’s so hard trying to be healthy while feeling so rubbish. My GP was very reassuring. She said the baby doesn’t take much from you during the first trimester so keeping food down is more important than diet. I think the body needs the rest so the exhaustion is how it gets it.

I’ve been too ill to work in this pregnancy so we can’t really afford a gender scan. We have an EPAU scan at 16 weeks. They won’t tell us the sex but they usually do a between the legs shot. With my son I swear I saw something at that point. I’ve become quite interested in nub theory. Based on that our baby is a girl. I guess we’ll wait it out for the 20 weeks. Can’t wait to know. We’re not bothered either way but it’ll be good to have a sort out of baby stuff. Lots of it is unisex but we’d get rid of more gender specific stuff if my hunch is right.

I’d say go for it if you’re in a position to find out. It was lovely with ds to bond a bit more with him and start buying things. Xx

FirstTimer22 · 26/09/2021 21:54

Definitely! My GP said similar, just concerned if I have this IBS-y issue longer term as we're into second trimester now! Going to try and get some pregnancy vitamins this week though.

Sorry to hear you've been so ill! Ooh if they do a between the legs shot you should at least have a clue! That would be lovely to have one of each but of course a healthy baby is the no 1 priority! I find nub theory so confusing. No idea from my scan 🤣 I am trying to watch the pennies too but thought £50 odd wasn't too bad and hopefully it'll be reassuring to know things are still ok. Think it does make it feel more real knowing what you're having too, esp as it's my first pregnancy!

X

Catconfusion · 27/09/2021 05:28

@FirstTimer22 I really hope it improves for you. Tummy problems are miserable. I'm a bit sad as I've had an awful night and not a great day yesterday. After a few good days and getting a taste of how it could be I'm a bit disheartened. Just feel really nauseous and exhausted. My skin is also really bumpy and itchy. It must be the hormones.

Yes obviously just want a healthy baby. We don't mind either way. This pregnancy is just so different than with my son. It's such a strong hunch it's a girl. I think with nub theory it all depends how much detail is on the scan picture. You can see the nub on ours. Whether it's accurate or not is another thing.

We had an EPAU scan at 16 weeks last time and with this pregnancy so can't really justify paying for a gender scan. You should totally go for it though. I loved finding out last time. It was nice to bond and pick a name out. Also buy a few things. Xx

Carolinesyear · 27/09/2021 16:44

Great news on everyone's scans. I've been quiet as I've been so worried about my scan. I went in today at 12+5 but actually measured 13+1 and NT of 2mm. I really wanted it to start with a 1 but hopefully 2mm is ok, sonographer didn't seem concerned but I'm supper jealous when I read about NTs of 1.2 etc. Baby was so active I couldn't believe it, kicking and stretching, I suppose it should enjoy it while it lasts as it'll get tighter!
I'm in the dreaded 'wait for the phone call' phase now. I can't wait to be on the other side of that
@FirstTimer22 I had diarrhoea for weeks at the beginning but it's calmed down now, I started probiotics but I'm not sure if they helped or it was just a timing thing.

Catconfusion · 27/09/2021 17:41

@Carolinesyear I honestly wouldn't worry about an nt of 2. It's well within the normal range. I understand though, I nearly had a nervous breakdown about mine. It was 2.8 and with being an older mum I thought the worst. I still came out low chance. I did have a long chat with the screening midwife who was really reassuring. She said the nt shouldn't be looked at alone and the bloods are the most important thing. She's seen Nts of 3 plus and all was fine. Luckily my bloods don't fit the profile of a chromosomal abnormality. If your Papp a and hcg are close to 1 it should come back low risk. Great baby is measuring ahead and active so likely all ok. I hope you get the letter nice and quick. Xx

Ania89 · 27/09/2021 18:07

Congratulations on your scan @Carolinesyear ! Mine is tomorrow and I am absolutely petrified. It does not help that I have all sprts of pains and needles in my tummy atm. So worried :(

Catconfusion · 27/09/2021 18:11

@Ania89 good luck for tomorrow. I'm sorry to hear about the tummy pains. Sounds like it could be everything stretching. This time tomorrow it'll all be done and you'll have seen baby 🙂 xx

Thank you @Catconfusion
I bet you were worried but I'm glad everything is ok, it's funny I read some places that says 3mm and under is ok, others say 2.5mm. I suppose it's a sliding scale.
Good luck for your scan @Ania89, what is your gestational age?

Dyra · 27/09/2021 18:38

Awwww what a lovely scan photo @Carolinesyear. Congratulations. ❤️

I'm working on the same hunch as you @Catconfusion. This pregnancy (so far) feels so different to that of my previous, it must be the opposite sex! So I'm tentatively guessing boy atm. Won't be finding out though. No matter which sex I get they'll be in neutral baby grows until at least 3 months..... And I just realised this one is going to be in cute summer rompers when they're still tiny. Stupid hormones. Crying is for not at work! 🥲

Catconfusion · 27/09/2021 18:42

@Carolinesyear gorgeous pic ❤️

The nhs guidance is anything under 3.5mm is normal if the bloods are ok. Mine is something like the 97th centile which was a bit alarming. I did however read everything going on it and one study found 94% of babies with this measurement are perfectly normal. Even babies over 3.5 have a good chance if everything else is ok. I think anywhere with lower parameters are being super cautious.

Do you have any hunches about the sex. Xx

Catconfusion · 27/09/2021 18:46

@Dyra it's hard not to make assumptions when it feels different. My cravings are so different and I've been whole new level sick. Also carrying very low and wide. My skin is awful too.

It's lovely you're having a surprise. As you say the early days can be pretty neutral anyway. In fact a lot of my sons clothes are neutral. It will be nice to have a good sort out though and get rid of the boy stuff if it is a girl. We also have a two bedroom house so a bit more planning for the future if it's a girl. Two boys can share.

I'll look forward to finding out if your hunch is right. Xx

Ania89 · 27/09/2021 18:51

@Carolinesyear I should be 13+2 tomorrow x

rosiej95 · 27/09/2021 19:57

Hi all
Hope it's ok to join
I'm 12 weeks tomorrow 🥰

I've had a right nightmare with my scan 🤦🏼‍♀️
It's my first pregnancy so not sure what's normal & what's not but when I had my booking appointment at 9 weeks midwife said if I hadn't heard anything by 11 weeks to ring her & let her know.
I've been trying for the past week to get hold of her 🤦🏼‍♀️
Got told that if you ring the hospital they can tell you the date & time over the phone so did that as didn't wanna keep pestering the midwife if she was busy & they said they have no record of me & no scan booked. Said they can't do anything until midwife refers me so I've tried ringing the midwife without any luck. Gp can't do anything as it's down to the midwife so ended up being given a number to ring to then have to ring another number where the lady was a little rude to me & that was it then started sobbing uncontrollably on the phone to her telling her how I don't know what else to do as I can't get in contact with midwife & no one can do anything but the midwife. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ she then gave me another number to ring where the lady on the phone was absolutely lovely (I had controlled myself by then haha!) told me that the reason the midwife hasn't been in contact with me is because she's self isolating & her phones off so I need to ring her on Wednesday & they will put it through as urgent.
So hopefully soon I will have a scan date 🤞🏻

I am absolutely loving pregnancy so far & not planning on finding out the sex but have noticed there's not much neutral clothes in shops 😂🙈

Catconfusion · 27/09/2021 20:07

Oh no @rosiej95 what a nightmare. I think it's bad when you don't get a date by 12 weeks. If you want the screening tests I think there's a cut off so hopefully they'll get you in quick.

I had similar with my son. The letter had got lost in the post. Thank goodness I rang up. They got me in at 12 plus 5 in the end so it was fine.

Glad you're enjoying pregnancy. I know what you mean about lack of neutral stuff in the shops. There's some lovely stuff on the Frugi and Piccalilly websites. Next do Frugi and Little Bird too.

I hope you get a scan date soon. Xx

GeorgiaMcGraw · 27/09/2021 22:32

Just a heads up, apparently you shouldn't use salicylic acid while pregnant. I slap it on my face (recurring cystic acne) twice a day and had no idea. How the hell are you supposed to know all of these things? I only found out because I was looking up acne in pregnancy and trying to find out if it's normal for it to get worse. Bleedin Nora...
