Great news @Justanothercyster hopefully it will speed up now!

Lexber · 09/11/2021 10:35

Ah @Gem176 I live that idea for @Minster2012 - you passed her the pregnancy torch 🔥 ❤️
He did say he didn't want to poke the babies and my response was "babe you ain't that big" 🤣🤣🌭

Positive section stories and good healing stories have helped my worry a little- give me the drugs!! Lol

@2020mission I wish! My first one ripped me front to back with her massive head 🤣🤣 I had stitches but tbh it wasn't that bad and witch hazel healed me well, my second tore me a little but they let me heal naturally and I wouldn't have known if they'd not told me! In fact with my 2nd I had her at 1.26am and was stood in my kitchen at 12noon that day making my then 3 year old a sandwich for dinner 🤣🤣🤣

@Justanothercyster great news on the progression hoped things progress quicker now the waters have been broken! It's so exciting!! Try and rest while you can and we are here with you for hand holds cxxx

lucyrp · 09/11/2021 13:18

@2020mission my first i had just gas and air and no tears, my second was just gas and air and the pool and I had a small graze. I said immediately after DD was born I'd do it all over again 🙈

Minster2012 · 09/11/2021 16:09

@Lexber face down into a bean bag??! That sounds like you were getting yourself into some weird sex position 😂but yeah def different this time!

@bez91 I'm pretty confident they get shat on an awful lot it's prob a bad day in the office if they don't get a 💩in the eye 😂did you stop the pessaries btw?

@Gem176 awww loving the pregnancy torch being passed on! I ovulated on the 1st sep so sometime near then 🤷🏼‍♀️liking the sound of your birth! It's so much a terrific Tuesday but it's ok, threw up this morning at 9.30 but it came on quick and then passed quickly & im feeling very lurgy-like so think it's that. And yep we def had a title featuring cervix touching 🍆

Come on @Justanothercyster PUSH!!!! (Or if that's appropriate?!)

@lucyrp I think you are thinking of doing it again already 😂😂

So things we've learnt;

  • if you have a c section take laxatives before
  • if you have constipation & a c section then take MORE laxatives
  • a bean bag birth is very comfy
  • not to be embarrassed if you shoot a 💩 at a health professional (maybe it's a badge of honour??)
  • Mother Nature hates us
  • *@lucyrp* is the queen of birthing!

I think one things for sure, bearing in mind my lack of bowels meaning I have many a loose BM per day I think whoever is near me for a birth needs to wear A LOT of protective clothing 😂😂I'm sure I'll win the 💩 prize

So a question...after the nuchal scan how long is it before you get the nuchal screening results?

Well I've got a fair few appointments coming up it seems...scan Thursday, then my first obs gyn appointment next Tuesday, I've just got a telephone appointment through for the week after with the antenatal anaesthetic the following week then my Endicrine antenatal phone call 7th Dec
Somewhere in there I've also got an oncology call where they'll ask for my oncology scans to be done - a lot of stuff 😂😂😂

2020mission · 09/11/2021 16:44

Ahh @lucyrp I hope I follow in your foot steps and have no more than a graze 🤞 😅 it makes sense you enjoyed it more since there wasn't any trauma. Good to hear of nice birth experiences for a change! Did you do any perineum massage/stretching in advance of labour or did it just come naturally? I imagine the younger you are the better your body can handle birth. I'm still expecting the worst so I'm not too shocked at the time!

@Minster2012 they told me the NT measurement seemed normal at the actual scan but the overall results including bloods took a month for me. Probably irrelevant to you though since I'm in Scotland! I just got told the results on my telephone appointment with a midwife a month after that scan and never had a letter through or anything with them written.

lucyrp · 09/11/2021 16:50

@2020mission I hate to think what a tear feels like because even the graze I had to pour water with a jug everytime I went to the loo for a couple of weeks! Stings! Yes I am very lucky and haven't had any trauma in either of my births however if I had had to have my induction I'm sure it would have been a different story. I didn't do any the first time but I was very young 17 and I was looking into doing it this time but read up on some statistics that basically said if you didn't tear the first time there's no evidence to show it helps the second time. Yes definitely best way to be and j didn't actually think too heavily about labour until right at the end which I think helped.

@Minster2012 queen of birthing 🤣 like to think my next would be lovely too but sure I'll due my fair share of trauma 🥴

bez91 · 09/11/2021 18:59

@Minster2012 maybe 💩 😂 yes sorry I think you asked me before. I meant to wean off them so only took a few on holiday but really couldn't be doing with them with wearing a bikini so I've gone cold turkey and stopped 😬 have you been told when/if to stop taking?
I'm waiting for results from 12 week scan (11 days ago) she said should hear within 2 weeks but everything looked ok.

Minster2012 · 09/11/2021 20:45

@2020mission I think it's relatively similar here, I spoke to a friend earlier who, on a side note, is also celebrating a "3rd time lucky baby" who had her 12 week scan on Friday & she said she's waiting on the bloods but they told her the measurement & they were happy with that. I'm so happy for them, and I suspected she was pregnant again from something she said a couple of weeks ago but bless her she sent me a message so I could hear it from her and to chat in case it upset me but I'm over the moon for them 😊🌈

@lucyrp I think we are all wanting to follow in your footsteps!!

@bez91 that's good to know, yeah I seem to think it's about 2 weeks for the blood results here too. I haven't been told yet on the pessaries but I said that after our ivf where my friend got pregnant with X she was told to just go cold turkey from our viability scan and that was at 7.5 weeks so I thought it would be fine. Can't WAIT to stop them if it's ok 😂😂

Gem176 · 09/11/2021 23:58

@2020mission I genuinely enjoyed both my births, the only bit I really didn't like was the cannula but I think most women end up with one of them however they deliver in case they need blood?? Although the first was classed as an emergency, it was only called that because labour had started, it was still a very calm experience and I skipped the 4 hour wait on the ward beforehand 🤣 lovely teams looking after me, no pain, no parts I can't remember. I understand it's not for everyone but it was absolutely the best choice for me and I'm so glad I stuck to my guns and got the births I wanted. I'd encourage everyone to be their own biggest advocates and ensure their choices are known and respected wherever possible. Shout louder if they aren't and don't be pushed into anything you don't want just because someone else says so without a very good reason.

@Lexber 🤣🤣🤣 best we stop their egos getting too big immediately!! Definitely take all the drugs on offer! That was the best piece of advice ever given... even when you feel fine do not skip your painkillers. 4 days of diclofenac then onto regular paracetamol and internet purchased prescription of naproxen ibuprofen until day 7. Also keep the compression stockings on.... they ain't sexy but neither are giant tree trunks where your legs used to be 🤣

@Minster2012 of course Mother Nature hates us.... periods are proof enough without the horror of bringing forth the next generation! Bubba's are so worth it though 🥰
Well Katie was 31st august so I'd say that's close enough to pass on the torch 🥰
I genuinely think a good birth is one where you get what you want iyswim? For some a CS would be the worst birth imaginable if they wanted a completely intervention free home birth. Me and @lucyrp had completely different births but we are both really happy with them because I think we both got what we wanted/planned for.
It was two weeks for results to appear in my online notes after 12 week scan but I was told if there was anything wrong I'd get a call before that.

Gem176 · 09/11/2021 23:59

Oh and for anyone wanting a really good laugh, on the classics board there is a thread about funny labour stories..... I was killing myself laughing reading through them this afternoon!! 🤣🤣🤣

DKDK123 · 10/11/2021 04:20

@lexber 'face down into a giant bean bag' 😂 chuckling away at the image. What a lovely memory to have of feeling so chilled.

@bez91 don't worry I've heard from a friend that was a midwife that 💩 during labour is very common, a lot of the time they just discretely scoop it away and the woman is unaware it even happened.

@Gem176 love the idea of passing the pregnancy torch along, hopefully we can all pass a torch along to the rest of the bus passengers.
Home after 24 hours sounds bliss, nothing beats your own bed. They wouldn't let me get out of bed for 24hours (not that I even remember most of it anyways I was so out of it) but lying immobile for 24 hours before trying to walk probably didn't help with the pain factor. I was also only given the good drugs for the first 3 days then told to just stick to paracetamol so that I didnt over do it ......bugger that this time round I'm demanding at least a week of decent drugs 😂
The cannula didn't bother me at first but because I was in hospital for weeks beforehand they had to put in a fresh canula every 3 days to prevent infection, towards the end they were running out of decent hand veins and having to stick them in the side of my wrists and things like that. Instead of becoming used to having them done I actually grew to fear them and I'm usually 100% fine with needles but I remember by that last week crying like a baby any time they said it was time to give me a new cannula 🙈 think I was just emotional, exhausted and fed up of hospital by that point.

@Justanothercyster hooray for waters breaking!!!!! Hopefully by the time you're reading this you've got your little one cradled in your arms.

@Minster2012 how lovely of your friend to think of you and tell you privately first. Did you tell her your news?

The more I remember DS pregnancy now, the more I remember declaring I was NEVER going through it again. Yet here I am fighting so hard for this little one. Pretty sure many women no matter how they gave birth declared the same thing...funny how your body just makes you forget (till you actually get pregnant then the oh shit I gotta do it again sinks in).

Thinkingandblinking · 10/11/2021 07:58

Morning, hope everyone is well! Just a quick note as not been keeping up with the thread but wanted to let everyone know, we had a beautiful baby boy born on Halloween!

Been in hospital with him until know but finally out and feel like I can catch my breath!

I didn’t believe I would take home a baby until the moment he was born and cried, the midwife said she saw the look of absolute shock on my face!

All the heartache and dark days are not forgotten but they are at least worth it as he is perfect to me xx

Thank you ladies for all the support and messages through ttc and pregnancy, it was my virtual safety net where anything could be aired and nothing judged, you’ve been a part of my journey xxxx

Minster2012 · 10/11/2021 08:32

@Gem176 thank you that's reassuring on the nuchal result I guess, just a bit worried as I'm so faulty & 37 so would that make it higher anyway?? We'll take the 31st as torch passing on 🥰😘is it a good laugh for those of us that haven't given birth??? That classics one??

@DKDK123 just noticed you writing at 4am, I could have joined you from 2.44 onwards 😬😬yes o said to our friend that I'm hoping to be a week behind her & have my scan on Thursday but that a close mutual friend of ours doesn't know yet, ahhh for forgetting the bad births!!

@Thinkingandblinking congratulations 🎊 that's so great, you have a gorgeous baby boy!! Yesssss!!!

Gem176 · 10/11/2021 12:14

@DKDK123 that sounds horrendous, hopefully absolutely nothing like that this time round. It sounds so counterintuitive but getting up and walking around early really helps! First time my legs were still a bit numb but I had been told get up and walk if you want to beat the pain just go slowly so I had this really weird walk where my leg sort of twanged up every time I took a step so my heel went right up to touch just below my bum 🤣 it was so weird but was gone a few hours later 🙌🏻
Think the midwives were quite surprised that my first question when back on the ward was "when can I have the cannula out?" 🙈
Definitely, with my day in hospital and 4 days at home I got 5 days worth of diclofenac and was told I could get more from GP but didn't bother as I had the naproxen and by day 5 i was only taking it before bed just in case I rolled and pulled something in my sleep! Diclofenac is absolute magic though!!

@Thinkingandblinking congratulations 💙 👶🏻 enjoy the newborn bubble!!

@Minster2012 no one I'd have been happier to pass a pregnancy torch onto ❤️
it's not an actual test as such, they give you a chance based on risk factors from levels of certain things in your blood (hcg is one), the questions they ask you, the nuchal fold length, your age etc etc and age is one thing that increases your risk. I was 1:10000 for edwards and pataus with M and Katie but with Katie my downs risk was higher (still very low) and that was purely because I was 8 years older. You can go for a NIPT test which is a blood test from you that tests the foetal DNA that is in your blood and is much more accurate than the NHS test without the risk of amniocentesis. Have a look at the NIPT, especially if a high risk result from the NHS screening is likely to worsen your anxiety. The NHS screening isn't a test on the baby really it's assessing risk factors and deciding if you are at high risk. If I was over 35 I probably wouldn't bother with the NHS screening as a lot of mums over 35 get a high risk result as the age skews it and end up doing NIPT to put their mind at ease. And with NIPT being private you get results quicker, it's about £400 but I'd have happily paid it for peace of mind.
Yes, still hilarious, I've only done a few hours of labour and I found them so funny! A lot of it is funny things said/done while high as a kite on gas & air.... The title was something like "bit her during labour". If you have a spare hour it's well worth it 🤣

Minster2012 · 10/11/2021 12:44

@Gem176 I shall look that up. We had the NIPT done with X as they couldn't get the measurements he just wouldn't lie right & so the only option then was just the bloods so we paid for the NIPT. We decided against it this time as I thought I'd rather just try get to my scan instead & if it comes back as high risk then the nhs might do it anyway, my reasoning being that I don't know what we'd do if it came back as quite likely for anything so we thought we might as well wait & if we get bad results we'll face them at the time IYSWIM? I shall maybe read the thread later to keep me entertained 😂

Lexber · 10/11/2021 13:19

In my first labour I spat chocolate mini roll all up my MWs arm... I hadn't eaten for hours and as a contraction finish someone put some in my mouth and I suddenly got another contraction so grabbed my gas and air and as I blew out chocolate roll went everywhere- in the mouthpiece over my bed and up my poor MWs arm... 🤣🤣🤣 luckily she found it hilarious 😆

I also later on post birth had to be stitched up and was very off my tits with my legs in stirrups and midwife at the faff end ready to stitch as the door opened and my mum and 2 sisters were stood there.. I openly invited them on to join the party 🤣🤣 "come on in..." my mw suggested they waited in the family room and she would fetch them when I was decent 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

And finally, the best one... because it was a big tear I had gas and air when the midwife explained she would put a tampon in my bum to ensure she didn't stitch too far to which I sat up looked at her in pure horror and told her "I know we have gotten close but I feel that you are trying to take advantage of me now" she burst out laughing and reminded me I'd spat choc roll on her so I laid down and told her to crack on 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ them drugs have a lot to answer for!!

Gem176 · 10/11/2021 16:29

@Minster2012 totally get what you mean it's just that as the NHS is a screening to pick out the people who are at high risk rather than detect the babies that actually have a syndrome I didn't know if you might prefer to go straight for something more accurate. I think pregnancy is stressful enough without getting a high risk result to then stress and wait a bit longer to be told actually no, nothing wrong carry on with your day sort of thing. For the vast majority of people that get a high risk result their baby is fine. 1 in 150 means a 0.6% chance of baby having that syndrome. I had the testing but like you had no idea what I'd do with a high risk result, I think I'd have gone for further testing to know for sure as knowledge is power and I'd want to be prepared mentally and practically for having a disabled child.
Good for a giggle, never had gas&air but think I fancy a shot recreationally now 🤣

@lexber see stories like this make me think gas and air would be a good laugh, especially when you aren't having stitches in a very delicate area or a tampon put up your bum 😂

Lexber · 10/11/2021 16:39

@Gem176 gas and air is wonderful haha my first birth I disgraced myself in wonderful ways that I laugh about 🤣🤣🤣
My second birth I mounted a giant bean bag... 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe it is a good job my 3rd birth could be a section or monitored, I'd probably be attempting to swim the Chanel in the birthing pool this time round.. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣

2020mission · 10/11/2021 18:09

@Lexber love that birth story 😂 chocolate is so much better than bodily fluids so that have been a nice change for her haha I actually quite fancy a chocolate mini roll now.

@Gem176 a tampon up the bum? Whaaat? 😅

My uncle had high risk ratios for both his children for Down's syndrome, one was in the teens e.g. 1 in 15. Both of them are absolutely fine so those risks definitely can be well off! Mines came back as 1 in 2500 for this pregnancy. I was expecting higher given I'm in my 30s. It's a shame they don't just do the more accurate NIPT blood test instead of the NT screening. Would definitely save a lot of people the worry and stress of the less accurate NT results.

2020mission · 10/11/2021 18:11

To those who've been in labour, did the gas and air make you feel sick or light headed? I've kind of assumed it won't work for me since I feel light headed quite easily due to low blood pressure. I'll definitely give it a go at least.

Lexber · 10/11/2021 18:16

@2020mission the tampon was meeee again that @Gem176 refered to... 🤷🏽‍♀️
And the gas and air first time I was convinced I was slurring my words like when your really drunk and kept asking everyone if I was slurring my words apparently I wasn't but it was funny I was convinced I was...
2nd time I can't remember much it was that quick!!

I do remember also the first one (now baring in mind I was 20 and scared as hell to show the Dr/Mw my faff when I went in at 6.30am) I had a student mw and a dr popped by at one point so I had a few different people check my dilation and by the end I apparently asked if anyone else wanted a go and offered it out to everyone 🤣🤣🤣 and she was born at 6.26 am

*apparently I'm also a fun drunk too...

bez91 · 10/11/2021 20:38

@Thinkingandblinking ahhh congratulations on your baby boy 🥳💕

Gas and air, it's pretty good. I gave birth without it then needed it to be stitched up 😂 just felt like I was floating. On a more sour note I also had it for my D&C. Who needs gas and air for a D&C but not actual giving birth 🙄 actually I'd rate the pain of the D&C worse, maybe it was the emotional side!

I@2020mission i have low blood pressure too and didn't struggle with sickness after, definitely light headed but I didn't faint!

Lexber · 10/11/2021 21:08

Jesus talk about a scare!

Ive just gone to pick the youngest up from her friends gone inside to wait for her got too warm and as ive gone outside for air I fainted on the doorstep - thankfully her friends mum grabbed me and stopped me going face first and slowed my fall massively while I tried to grab the wall with my other hand.

I feel ok now just tired and sick. Thankfully I didn't go down hard or on my stomach. OH is worried sick bless him.

lucyrp · 10/11/2021 21:12

@2020mission umm I don't really know how to answer that one. If you've done laughing gas recreationally then you kind of know what to expect in terms of how to use it. When they say to stop when you're not having a contraction... don't listen. By the time you start sucking on it with the contraction the pain has already begun and it kicks in once the contraction has passed. Hang on to it and don't let go 😂🤣 pretty sure I used basically a whole tank and I was only on it for maybe 2 hours 🥴

2020mission · 10/11/2021 21:29

@lucyrp never had laughing gas but definitely keeping note of staying on it when they say stop 👍

@Lexber hope you're doing ok and that's good someone managed to catch you. I'm surprised I haven't fainted at all during this pregnancy so far as I'm prone to it at times outside of pregnancy. Hopefully it won't happen again for you. Take it easy!

@bez91 thanks that's helpful to know - I might be absolutely fine on it then 🤞
