IME, pregnancy is waaaaay harder than having a newborn.
Pregnancy means:
-you're sick all the time
-by late pregnancy you can't breathe properly or bend down and you need to go to the toilet every half hour
-you have to get up at night every hour or so to go to the toilet
At least when you have the baby:
-you only need to carry a baby around, not baby + placenta + fluid
-you have the option of putting it in a buggy or giving it to someone else for a while
-you can co-sleep so you don't actually have to get out of bed at all
-you have a sweet little baby which gets constantly admired

Surely it's not just me who thinks this? Or do I just have really really shite pregnancies?

Having a newborn is great!!!!! It's hard work at times but it's such a nice time as well.

Dinosaur · 30/11/2007 11:56

Nah - I loved being pregnant.

The first few weeks of having a newborn just did my head in though, and it wasn't any different second and third time around.

But when I say "did my head in" I mean in a nice way. But I found it very weird, much weirder than pregnancy.

pucca · 30/11/2007 11:57

Pregnancy...Definately!

Newborns are a doddle.

malfoy · 30/11/2007 11:58

I was going to say the opposite!

I had 2 wonderful pregnancies & loved the fact that:
-everybody is so nice to you,
-the feeling of never being alone,
-that your body is serving a useful purpose

I missed sleeping on my front most but I was never really bothered but the other ailments (peeing when sneezing, feeling rough for the first 12 weeks).

The shock of my first newborn was huge. I think it was the relentlessness of it all that got to me (on demand feeding, interrupted sleep)

prettymum · 30/11/2007 11:59

definately newborn!!
after having dc1, i was so exhausted i couldnt leave the house for first two weeks. my breast were sore and cracked from breastfeeding with both dc, i used to be in agony, and cant wont even start on the lack of sleep!

i loved both my pregnancies, they were so easy going and i miss being pregnant!!

SmartArse · 30/11/2007 11:59

New born! But I guess it depends on your pregnancy: mine were both relatively easy (yours sound hideous, Kathy!).

pregnancy is easier - but can get tedious and boring by lasting too long.

having a newborn is much more rewarding!

JeremyVile · 30/11/2007 12:00

By god, you did it!

Newborn is harder.

You are suffering the fallout of labour.
Probably feeling a bit depressed (hormones or otherwise)
Exhausted - lack of sleep, demands of a tiny baby can be constant.
Getting used to fitting everything you do around a whole other person.
You need to carry around a lot more than just the baby - spare clothes, wipes, nappies, buggy (or having them strapped to you a la pg anyway) etc.

But I say that as someone who loved being pg and felt great right up to the end (not always, there were crappy moments, but mostly great).

MeAndMyMonkey · 30/11/2007 12:01

Both bloody hard but newborn WAY harder! And I had a shite pregnancy to boot!

fryalot · 30/11/2007 12:01

newborn is harder for a week.

Pregnancy is harder for mooooooooonths

cece · 30/11/2007 12:03

I've always liked being pregnant and enjoyed it so I would say having a newborn is a lot harder than being pregnant.

turtleye · 30/11/2007 12:04

PREGNANCY...

Give me birth or a new born anyday rather than the long boring 9 mnths of pregnancy!!!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/11/2007 12:04

i had a very easy pg..no morning sickness, craving, anything apart from being mega hot but i would say Newborn as it was very hard work and my body was in shock for the next 3 months...then i started to enjoy it

Aitch · 30/11/2007 12:09

ooohh i loved being pregnant, me and dh were just saying last night that i was at my happiest and most chilled-out, i adored it.
so pg is easier imo. but a newborn's not so difficult, tbh. if you expect it to be miserable, it will be. if you expect it to be an enormous treat then you never know, it might be.

foxinsocks · 30/11/2007 12:11

I'd go through pregnancy and childbirth about 10 times over before I'd have another newborn.

Of course that wouldn't be physically possible but you know what I mean .

Having a newborn nearly put me off sex for life (as sex = getting pregnant = having another newborn!).

tiredAli · 30/11/2007 12:11

Newborn harder. Constant worry, no sleep, that completely clueless feeling.
Loved being pregnant, I also miss it!
Just wondering how many on here that are saying newborn easier are 2nd/3rd time etc mums? Is it really easier 2nd time round?

sweetkitty · 30/11/2007 12:12

pregnancy

but then I get SPD which leaves me nearly as soon as the baby is born, so a newborn is easier once you can walk pain free again

derah · 30/11/2007 12:15

Newborn. Pregnancy is annoying but looking after a newborn did my head in!! I went to some very weird places in my head. Physically they're both difficult but mentally the newborn thing was much harder.

She's lovely now she's 2 though!!

gegs73 · 30/11/2007 12:17

Pregnancy with DS2. Though with DS1 I would have said newborn.

Anna8888 · 30/11/2007 12:18

Pregnancy. I remember my sister telling my before I had my daughter how I would instantly feel so much better once she had come out. And she was so right.

norkmaiden · 30/11/2007 12:23

Newborn

Nothing in the world, but nothing, could have prepared me for the shock of it.
