IME, pregnancy is waaaaay harder than having a newborn.
Pregnancy means:
-you're sick all the time
-by late pregnancy you can't breathe properly or bend down and you need to go to the toilet every half hour
-you have to get up at night every hour or so to go to the toilet
At least when you have the baby:
-you only need to carry a baby around, not baby + placenta + fluid
-you have the option of putting it in a buggy or giving it to someone else for a while
-you can co-sleep so you don't actually have to get out of bed at all
-you have a sweet little baby which gets constantly admired

Surely it's not just me who thinks this? Or do I just have really really shite pregnancies?

I found pregnancy much harder. There is nothing like cuddling your new little baby that makes up for how ever many times he wakes you up. I would have millions of babies if I didn't have to go through being pregnant (and giving birth of course).

Love babies too but having a newborn is definitely harder!

bruhaha · 30/11/2007 13:28

having a newborn is harder - especially a premature newborn

Newborn
Newborn
Newborn

Every time. Although I am 31 weeks preg with DC2 so reserve the right to change my mind. But I don't mind pregnancy (except for the ghastly indigestion )

claraquitebignow · 30/11/2007 13:39

At the moment I would definitely say newborn.

But my 2nd is due tomorrow so I am hoping within the next few weeks I will be able to say this pregnancy has been harder than this newborn.

If that makes sense?

CloudAtlas · 30/11/2007 13:40

pregnancy, except the first one, where pregnancy is an indulgent piece of piss!

isaidhohoho · 30/11/2007 13:46

CloudAtlas that is very true!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/11/2007 13:59

I don't like either. Lord knows why I having a 4th. Oh yes, they grow into delightful toddlers.

motherinferior · 30/11/2007 14:01

They're both utterly loathsome. Newborn is even worse, though.

JetPeanut · 30/11/2007 14:04

Newborn - without a doubt.

I am shocked anyone has said pregnancy was harder, as I thought this was a no-brainer! Just goes to show that everyone's experience is different.

Pregnancy is worse - at least with a newborn you can have a break and someone else can take over for a while if your lucky.

With a huge bump, backache, constipation, hooters the size of small islands heading south, and ligaments stretching in anticipation for the torture you have to look forward to - you're on your own mate!!!

seb1 · 30/11/2007 14:14

With hindsight

Pregnancy - Easy
Childbirth - Easy
Newborn - Easy
Toddlers and afterwards - Hell

Mercy · 30/11/2007 14:21

First newborn is very hard

2nd pregnancy with a toddler is quite hard too

midnightexpress · 30/11/2007 14:27

Newborn DEFINITELY harder than PG for me. Everyone is so nice to you when you're pregnant. Not that they're horrible now, it's just that you feel all special and lovely, and then go from that to not getting a shower for three days at a time and sick all over your jumper.

loler · 30/11/2007 14:32

Call me weird (and probably still have happy hormones floating around!) but loved pg and newborns. toddlers not much fun but really really hating school child - guess this one lasts longer than just 9 months too!

had very easy pgs not particularly easy newborns.

MuffinMclay · 30/11/2007 14:43

Newborn is far worse if you have one of the non-sleeping, constantly screaming or feeding or puking type of baby (often all 3 at once).

I have never felt so exhausted or miserable as during those first 12 weeks of babydom.

I haven't stopped moaning about how much I hate being pg recently, but it is nothing more than being uncomfortable really. I am dreading the newborn stage of events.

tassisssss · 30/11/2007 14:51

1st time pregnancy was way easier

2nd time I had SPD and a 3 year old - a newborn was much easier!

coby · 30/11/2007 14:57

Surely the whole thing depends on the individual circumstances ??? Dealing with a newborn when you have PND or when the newborn has medical issues is not easy, coping with pregnancy after a history of MC or complications not easy either.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/11/2007 15:01

Course it does Coby, the point of the thread was to see how many people experience one and how many people the other, not to argue that one is necessarily easier for everyone

Twin pregnancy and premature twins. Probably about equal in terms of pain and suffering!

norkmaiden · 30/11/2007 15:07

Kathy, are you pg?
