IME, pregnancy is waaaaay harder than having a newborn.
Pregnancy means:
-you're sick all the time
-by late pregnancy you can't breathe properly or bend down and you need to go to the toilet every half hour
-you have to get up at night every hour or so to go to the toilet
At least when you have the baby:
-you only need to carry a baby around, not baby + placenta + fluid
-you have the option of putting it in a buggy or giving it to someone else for a while
-you can co-sleep so you don't actually have to get out of bed at all
-you have a sweet little baby which gets constantly admired

Surely it's not just me who thinks this? Or do I just have really really shite pregnancies?

Deathbysnoosnoo - you have the coolest name , are you one of the larger amazonains or of of the petite?

On the pre natal depression thing, I have it now although I feel a bit of a cheat as I am LT sufferer of depression. With last 3 pgs I was cured of depression immediately and no PND after either, this time I haven't been cured so I am reclassified pre-natal Depression (for the next 9 months I guess). I have heard that it is very under-diagnosed too.

newborn

orangehead · 30/11/2007 21:06

My pregancies were really hard but having a newborn was definetly harder.

melontum · 30/11/2007 21:16

Newborn.(!!!)

Bainmarie · 30/11/2007 21:32

Newborn (had very colicky non sleepers!)

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 30/11/2007 21:32

newborn harder only with first
from then on 'get them out!!!!'

honey2theb · 30/11/2007 21:35

they are both FAB! I adore having my 3 month old dd, but sooo miss my big belly cant wait to have another one

DeathBySnooSnoo · 30/11/2007 21:36

coby-i am definatley one of the larger ones

i had AND in all 5 pregnancies, but it was unheard of when i had ds1 and dd1.i had councelling when i was pregnant with ds2 but nobody said i had ante-natal depression,i just 'happened' to be depressed while i was pregnant(and 'happened' to be absolutley fine from when ds2 was about 3 months old).i was pretty ok after having dd2 as well.however,it could be that i found it easier with 3 and 4 as i was more experienced,it wasnt so much of a shock to the system and the babies had to fit in around everybody else.

that doesnt explain why i went on to develop full blown PND after having dd3 though.

expatinscotland · 30/11/2007 21:39

for me, PREGNANCY!

at least with a newborn, i could get pal-sy with wine again.

pregnancy gave me lots of health problems and i couldn't exercise a lot, which didn't do much for my depression.

coby · 30/11/2007 21:44

Deathbysnoosnoo - 5 pregnancies!!! That is a lot of snoo snoo!

I'm guessing they diagnose it as AND (if they ever do) only if it clears up after the pregnancy (?)

I find it mildy amusing I have a new 'label' to play with for the next few months.

I'm sure it would be useful to other mums-to-be who are not used to suffering from D to know that AND exists since much more is made of PND. I have been told that AND is around 60% less likely to change to PND if treated before the birth. Looking at the NHS waiting lists for treatment for D, I guess that a lot must go on to suffer from PND then

shimmy · 30/11/2007 21:44

newborn

not only coping with lack of sleep and total shell shock of becoming a parent but physically feelign as if you have been in a train crash from a brutal birth

prgenancy is just an excuse to eat lots of chocolate

oh pregnancy definitely - at least you can put a baby down...

expatinscotland · 30/11/2007 21:57

and you can also fob the newborn off on others whilst you go out.

FirstAtForty · 30/11/2007 21:57

and if you're bf (or even if you're not) you still have an excuse to eat chocolate for a while after the baby's born to keep your energy up - sore fanjo's the only real downside then

jellycat · 30/11/2007 22:05

Pregnancy definitely

amytheearwaxbanisher · 30/11/2007 22:15

pregnancy, had an easy one really no sickness but ds was bouncing on my blader for last two months so got loads more sleep with newborn baby than my last two months pregnant

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 30/11/2007 22:18

pregnancy definately, you cant palm that off on someone like you can a newborn!

DaphneHarvey · 30/11/2007 22:20

Newborn.

But luckily not bad pregnancies.

LyraSilvertongue · 30/11/2007 22:22

Newborn.
Pregnancy was a breeze in comparison.

DaphneHarvey · 30/11/2007 22:24

But having newborn and toddler harder than anything else I've been through in 45 years! Much harder than being pg with toddler too.
