That dream and told her, and she was like
Omg I just found out I'm pregnant this morning 😲... crazy!
(Sorry for broken in half post kitten attacks my hands when I'm typing on my phone) 😂

@feb2022 a new kitten, how cute! Settling in okay?

I didn't get a 25 week appointment (FTM here) hospital said they've stopped doing them. I did get diagnosed with gestational diabetes last week, so have been doing the blood checks several times a day and trying to keep my levels in check. But means I'm now consultant led, and have had to cancel upcoming trips because I can't get a fit to fly. I also think it means I might be induced in mid Jan instead of due start of Feb, but waiting til I can talk to someone about it properly - the hospital seems so busy I can't even get through to book my extra scans etc.

Sorry for the ones feeling pain and discomfort, not fun. @Sunshine8888 glad you didn't suffer too badly from coronavirus, and have recovered.

Peachi82 · 30/10/2021 11:24

Thanks, appointment went ahead and the midwife was so nice and reassuring.
She is going to request the notes from my previous birth and we do a debrief to get a better idea about what's best this time round.
I'm glad she's not dismissed my concerns like the previous midwife.

Baby's heart sounded like a steam train 😂

Yeah she's adorable! I've always had dogs my whole life but my little one wanted a kitten and I'm so glad she's joined our family

@feb2022 your kitten is so adorable 🥰

Jellybean023 · 30/10/2021 19:22

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I had gestational diabetes with my first, though not diagnosed till about 34 weeks. This time round I had to be tested at 16 weeks (clear) and again at 28 weeks so we’ll see. I would have been induced between 39 and 40 weeks if I hadn’t gone into labour naturally at 38 + 5. I think it’s if they put you on metformin, it can interfere with the performance of the placenta later on so they won’t let you go beyond 40 weeks.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/10/2021 11:01

@feb2022 your kitten is sooo cute!

@Jellybean023 thank you, hopefully you avoid it for this pregnancy 🤞 did you go on metformin last time? I have a prescription for it but haven't used it yet - still trying to get to grips with diet

Jellybean023 · 31/10/2021 12:33

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes I was put on metformin but it was only a few weeks for me. Worth monitoring your diet and seeing if you can control it that way. I found I could eat potatoes without any problems but bread, pasta, breakfast cereals all sent my bloom sugar through the roof. Once I knew what I could eat and what I couldn’t it was manageable (albeit wouldn’t have wanted to do it long term) though I know there were other ladies who couldn’t tolerate any carbs at all without medication which I think would have been difficult. They don’t recommend giving up carbs completely as it’s important for the growing baby.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 31/10/2021 13:22

@Jellybean023 bizarrely I seem to tolerate wholemeal seeded bread and pasta quite well, but porridge or soup pushed me right over the sugar levels 🤷‍♀️ trying to figure it out! But yeah mostly subsisting on predominately veg, nuts, seeds, cheese etc. They said to have something with carbs for every meal, because my bmi isn't very high. Getting a bit bored already though 😂

catinthehat12 · 31/10/2021 15:59

Hope everyone’s doing well!! Time seems to have flew since that first painfully slow 12 weeks.

Wondering if anyone else gets a sort of stitch type pain at the bottom of their bump (mainly left side) while walking? I have to sit down for a minute or two and it’ll go away and I can carry on but it can be really quite uncomfortable. I walk the dogs every day, only usually for an hour though so nothing ridiculous, and over the past week it’s been a bit of a struggle!

Peachi82 · 31/10/2021 16:13

I had a little bit of glucose in my urine at yesterday's appointment 😔 Bit worried about it but midwife said they will follow it up if it happens 3 times.
I am travelling to see my mum this week and she is diabetic, so I'm hoping I can record a few fasting values when I'm at hers.

0Scapes · 31/10/2021 20:11

@catinthehat12 I get very similar too when taking the dog out. It sort of feels like baby’s in an uncomfortable position?? Thankfully our dog takes his time sniffing so when it gets a bit painful I just let him take his time. I feel like it’s only going to get more uncomfortable from here!

glasspaw · 31/10/2021 21:22

@catinthehat12 I’ve had similar but usually first thing in the morning. Like a foot is pushing down towards my hip or something and no matter what I do I can’t get comfy. I wish I had an ultrasound on hand at all times to see what was going on for sure though!

CucumberCool · 01/11/2021 04:10

@catinthehat12

Yes! I can't walk 50 yards without a side splitting stitch! Glad it's not only me!

It's been such along time since my last mw apt I have a A4 page of questions to ask her on Tuesday!

This whole not sleeping on your back thing is my main worry and is keeping me awake. Genuinely thinking of sleeping with a backpack on to stop me rolling over...!

catinthehat12 · 01/11/2021 09:17

Ok so glad that a few of you have noticed similar! It’s a pain, I can’t tell if I am pushing it too much or if I should walk through it? I have my midwife appointment on Friday too, so will ask about it. I thought it may have been dehydration so have drank lots more than usual but was still there. It could be that baby is in an uncomfortable position, but as soon as I slow down or sit it immediately goes.

0Scapes · 02/11/2021 10:02

Do any mummas have any recommendations for breast pumps? I have no idea where to even start. I’ve seen a hands free one called Pippeta advertised which looks good but it’s not cheap. It’ll just be helpful to hear some personal experiences with what worked and what hasn’t.

AtomicSquash · 02/11/2021 11:39

I just got a cheap hand pump to start with (the models harmony pump) as people kept telling me not to invest in anything very expensive before baby is here and you've got feeding established because there are so many variables. I'm glad they did because in the end my first never took to a bottle despite our repeated efforts! So I got very little use out of the pump. When I did use it occasionally though the hand pump was definitely efficient enough for getting a full bottle out and it was so easy to clean! Then if pumping is working for you you might want to invest in the more expensive electric machines. I also know that medela rent out their hospital grade electric pumps which are excellent and then you don't have to make a big investment.

AtomicSquash · 02/11/2021 11:40

*medela not models!

0Scapes · 02/11/2021 20:05

@AtomicSquash that makes sense - thank you!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 03/11/2021 09:57

@0Scapes I am getting the Spectre 1, it's an affordable hospital grade closed system portable pump - mains and battery. Hoping to use it to help establish supply also, and to pump at work. I went on the recommendations and reviews though

pusscous · 03/11/2021 19:38

I have a hospital grade medela pump. Yay to France, it's on prescription and I ordered it from my local pharmacy. I'll check the model later. Highly recommend even though I don't respond well to pumping

feb2022 · 04/11/2021 09:07
