CECE - I'm am so sorry to hear your bad news. My thoughts are with you at this very tough time. I have mc'd at both 16 and 20 weeks and both times I had to go through labour and push the baby out. It was painful both physically and emotionally. Both of mine were spontanious so there was no time to set up an epidural and I had morphine to cope with the pain, it heped with the 20 week mc but didn't with the last one so maybe they had given me a lower dose. If yours is going to be induced they will have time to set up an epidural for you which will really help physically to manage the pain. If there is anything else you would like to know please don't hesitate to ask me. Again I'm so sorry that you have to go through this awful trauma.

gingercat12 · 12/12/2007 10:05

Cece I cannot even imagine what you are going through, but my thought and prayers are with you.

for Cece

MincecePie · 12/12/2007 14:56

Thank you for your kind messages.

I asked for a second scan this morning and saw for myself that there is no movement and no heartbeat. So 4 (professional) people have now confirmed it. So sadly no miracle here. However, I agree the second scan should ease my mind afterwards. I too wished I had had a second scan after my last mmc at 9 weeks, so specifically asked for another scan today. They weren't going to do one but very kindly said I could have it done.

goingfor3 - I am rather scared of what it will entail. I have had the first drug this lunchtime and if nothing happens have to go back Friday lunchtime for the other drugs. She siad I might have to stay in overnight if it takes a while to get started.

I am not allowed an epidural due to lower back problems. I didn't realise it would be that painful? She said it would probably be like bad period pains...

MincecePie · 12/12/2007 14:57

MoM just clicked on your link

Thank you

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 12/12/2007 15:06

CeCe my own poersonal experince was that it was far more painful than a bad period but it may be different for everyone. Please don't forget that you can ask for drugs if the pain gets too much, you may be offered gas and air which does help as does morphine. I'll be thinking of you

MincecePie · 12/12/2007 15:10

Do I need to pack a bag like if I were going in for labour? What will I need?

MrsMcJnr · 12/12/2007 15:17

minspugs · 12/12/2007 15:31

cece - i would take a bag with things to keep yourself comfortable, snacks, drinks etc in case you stay in. i had tablets to bring on an early mmc (totally different i know) and took in some pjs, books and snacks. also dont go in by yourself hun, make sure you have someone who can stay with you the whole time. A friend of mine lost her twins at 16 weeks and i know she was given morphine, though she thought it was more like a milder version of normal labour and over much quicker. [hugs]

MincecePie · 12/12/2007 15:36

Thanks MrsMc

I have DH who will come with me. They said it would probably be born quite quickly as don't need to get to 10cm dilated.

MincecePie · 12/12/2007 15:40

sorry minispugs I meant you - a bit hazy today

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 12/12/2007 15:52

Minispugs gave a good list of things to take. When I mc'd at 20 weeks after a couple of days my breasts filled with milk though this didn't happen at 16 weeks, it may happen to you and although there is nothing you can do about it it's good to know. The hospital will provide you with maternity pads while you are there but it's worth having some at home as the bleeding can be very heavy after, I used Tesco night time ones.

minspugs · 12/12/2007 16:08

my friend got her milk in after losing her twins, doesnt always happen though and i think they can give you something to make it dry up.best to be prephared though just in case. always nighttime pads are good by the way.

becklesparkle · 12/12/2007 16:17

Cece, so sorry again . Glad they agreed to scan you again though just to set your mind at rest. I hope it all goes as well as it can do and will be thinking of you x

gingercat12 · 12/12/2007 16:17

MrsMc I think when you are pregnant you are not supposed to arch upwards only downwards (or the other way round, am a bit confused). See this page

becklesparkle · 12/12/2007 16:21

MrsMc, whats relaxing?!!! Haven't managed any yet as still got loads to do! Finished off the Santa letters for DSs school last night so just got to pop them all in their envelopes tonight. Thankfully that is the last of stuff I need to do for others so I can get on with cleaning the kitchen out, wrapping presents and writing cards! Mind you, it does seem that baby is in no hurry, was posterior today and not engaged. Baby does seem to twizzle around a lot in there, a friend even commented this afternoon as bump kept changing shape! Her 3rd didn't do that at 38 weeks, reckon I must have a lot of water or a baggy uterus! How's things with you? When does your MAT Leave start so you can begin to take it easy?

p2b · 12/12/2007 17:01

Cece

Just wanted to say how very very sorry I am to hear your news. The next few days will be tough both emotionally and physically but you will come out the other side. I had a mmc discovered at 20 weeks (baby died around 15 weeks) and also had medical management. I had to take the full dose of the second lot of tablets (2 tablets every four hours, four times) and stay in overnight because they took a long time to work. My husband was with me until about 10.00pm at night but they would not let him stay overnight. It was, as others have said more painful than I was led to believe but if (god forbid) I ever had to go through this again (and I would choose this method again) I would take the painkillers as soon as the pain started. As the lovely nurses told me there is no need to be feeling any pain. I would also advise that if nothing seems to be happening (but you have experienced strong contractions) that you request that the doctor examines you.

Other things to take with you: lots of change for the car park and to feed the little telly. My husband and I also opted for an autopsy which may be the last thing you want to think of right now but the findings have been very comforting for us and are hopefully helping to guide support for our current pregnancy.

Again, I am so very very sorrry that you are going through this. Please let me know if I can help any further. Thinking of you and your family at this terrible time.

MincecePie · 12/12/2007 17:49
