I've been told that I'm at higher risk of GD due to my weight but my BMI is over 40 so I'm bigger than your usual larger lady. My consultant did tell me to keep my weight as close to my pre-pregnancy weight as possible which I've actually found relatively easy but does definitely differ to your normal advice!

I think in my trust you only have the test if you are at risk which is a bit crazy since you can develop it with no risk factors at all.

Candyfloss22 · 26/10/2021 16:33

I must admit I love chocolate and crisps but I always have! However I think I have a high metabolism because since before being pregnant I have always been around 55kg and u am now 59.5kg and my craving for sweety foods have got worse! I would say thought that I eat very healthy main meals but snack on chocolate, sweets etc in between meals.
I have had to constantly chase my midwife for appointments, I've missed my 25 week appointment because they didn't call me so I called today to chase again and I've been told I have to wait till Monday for an appointment now (I'll then be 27+3) which will count as my 28 week appointment. I have also only seen a midwife once which was when I first found out at 10 weeks and had 2 scans both I had to chase for an appointment!

Jonesy88 · 26/10/2021 20:33

Hi everyone!

I have my GD check too in a couple of weeks (on a Sunday morning- rude!). Mine I think was booked in as a result of being under consultant led care (although I’ve not seen one yet).

Movements wise there is a loose pattern emerging, but only when I’m in a routine - eg mon-fri are pretty standard but as I’m out and about more at the weekend I lose the pattern. I’m not concerned atm as long as movements return when I sit down still/after food.

We’ve bought a mamas & papa’s nursery set and travel system - they were what we wanted and on offer so just went for it. We’re not tackling the nursery until closer to Christmas though.

Trinacham · 26/10/2021 20:44

The glucose tolerance test isn't given to everyone. They weren't going to test me for GD even though both my mother and my sister had it. Weirdly though once I mentioned them both also having type 2 diabetes after pregnancy, this is when they said I needed the test.

tinydancingbean · 28/10/2021 08:02

From what I understand while there are some risk factors that make it more likely, everyone who gets pregnant can develop GD because it’s not about diet it’s about insulin resistance - as with everything else at this time our bodies have to work harder on that front due to pregnancy and for some it’s just too much. I’m sure most on here who get tested will be fine, and it’s better to know if you do have it so you can make the changes needed to manage it. I’m missing biscuits for sure but enjoying plenty of cheese guilt free!

Anybody else really struggling with tiredness and lack of sleep? Haven't been sleeping great for a few weeks now, due to being uncomfortable and having to re-position, or getting up multiple times for a wee. But also this past week I have been dealing with insomnia and each time I wake up, it takes me forever to get back to sleep. Sat at work today and feel like I have been hit by a truck, the tiredness is making me feel a bit dizzy too which is always fun! Sad

I also feel in this weird limbo at the moment too, like most of the 'exciting' parts of pregnancy have been and gone i.e. scans and finding out the gender etc, but yet it is still such a long way away until baby is here for the most exciting part. Definitely not enjoying the last part of the 2nd trimester in pregnancy so far!

I enter the 3rd trimester next week though, so I am hoping things start to feel like they are moving quicker! :(

@expectinglittlebear I'm also tired. I can't get comfortable on my side, I'm waking up to use the loo at 3am every night and like you I can't get back to sleep once I've woken up. I've also had some heartburn keeping me up. I've gone back to having a 30 min nap after lunch but I'm lucky that I can.

You're right about this part seeming to drag. It feels like I've been pregnant for ages but my due date is still three months away. At the same time it seems very close because I have no clue about how I'm actually going to manage being a mum.

EsseKey · 28/10/2021 11:06

@expectinglittlebear
sorry to hear you feel this way! lack of sleep is definitely not helping if you are already feeling a bit down about some aspects of pregnancy 😓
have you tried using a pregnancy pillow or sth like that? I am not using a pregnancy specific one at the moment, but just a normal pillow that I had at home in between my legs, and it helps a lot to settle down when I feel uncomfortable in bed! I guess everyone finds it different though...

true that it feels like a long way to go, but I am sure time will fly! I have set some little "milestones" to look forward to, even in absence of big things such as the next scan or similar. For example, we have planned in advance the day when we will go shopping for baby stuff - so that we have something to look forward to! :)

@thecapitalsunited omg the heartburn...never had it in my life, I have it now quite often. Gaviscon helps a lot, even though I had to try different flavours because the taste of that aniseed flavoured stuff was making me sick (so it was actually worse) 😅

@expectinglittlebear I'm exhausted aswell. I'm sleeping fine. I wake up around 3am to pee but get straight back to sleep. It seems no matter how much sleep I get I'm still tired though. Im in good form generally and feel good just very very tired. I feel like the time will fly though now. @thecapitalsunited the heartburn is a killer. Mine was INSANE about 2 weeks back. Just non stop. It's much better now so I think it comes and goes. I highly recommend the bbhugme pillow for insomnia, when I first got it I didn't love it but it has been invaluable, I'm sleeping so well.

I'm the same as @EsseKey we plan in advance going to look at baby stuff etc, nursery planning etc so I feel we are busy and always have stuff on, maybe it makes it more fun 🤩

Our travel system is meant to be ready for collection on Saturday which we're looking forward to! We're going to look at our potential cotbed on the 19th nov - hopefully order it. Between now and then we are getting the wallpaper done, wardrobes organized etc. I have scans every 2 weeks from next Tuesday onwards so that will keep us busy too. I feel like we need every day of the pregnancy 😂 would you believe im STILL on anti nausea meds.... I tried coming off them one day last week, vomited within an hour of when I was due my pill 😏🙄 the consultant says some people just have nausea the whole 40 weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

thecapitalsunited · 28/10/2021 17:06

@spttc I have a Kally Sleep pillow which I do find comfortable but I'm a natural fidgeter and a body pillow (plus not using abs) makes it super awkward to roll over. I'm fine going from my left to my right but the other way round means I throw the duvet off and get cold. I'm also finding that if I sleep on my left side for too long it makes my hip hurt and once its started hurting, it hurts no matter which side I'm on. Which is annoying because my left side is generally more comfortable than my right. DH has wisely said nothing about me bashing him with my pillow every 5-10 mins while I'm trying to drop off!

Your nausea does not sound fun. But at least you are being treated for it. You hear of loads of women being fobbed off with the old 'eat ginger biscuits' crap.

Tangfastic91 · 28/10/2021 17:24

Ah my fellow insomnia and heartburn sisters.... it sucks!!! I'm awake at least 3 times a night (but only need to pee once), mostly I just lie there awake for at least 20 minutes a time trying to get back to sleep. Still, I know come January it's going to be a million times worse hah so taking this as 'training' for the main event.

Gaviscon takes up a permanent residence on my bedside table... resting the urge to go to the GP and get omeprazole or something.

Jonesy88 · 28/10/2021 18:50

I’m also there with tiredness. Mainly because after about an hour I wake up with heartburn/reflex. Then I need a wee probably twice a night and then from 3/4 onwards my hips hurt so I constantly wake myself up trying to turn over. Oh the joys!

thecapitalsunited · 28/10/2021 19:01

I am so glad that I’m not the only one with the heartburn and the hip pain and the disturbed sleep. It seems that I’m alone in the Rennies love though 😂

babyyy1926 · 28/10/2021 19:58

Hi ladies I haven't posted here for a while but been reading everyones messages. Just wondering if anyone else has suffered with a migraine yet? I have been having the worst headache i have ever had in my life since yesterday. I've been taking 2 paracetamol as often as i can and they don't even take the edge off. Its just constant throbbing pains. I can't stand up because of the shooting pains in my head. Don't know what to do Sad

thecapitalsunited · 28/10/2021 20:56

@babyyy1926 I had a migraine a few weeks back. Because mine normally go after a good nights sleep I phoned my midwifery support line and they asked for me to come to the hospital and be checked out. Mine was nothing but they did a full work up because a headache that won’t go away is a symptom of preeclampsia. I would suggest that if this migraine is not normal for you then you consult your midwife/gp/hospital as a matter of urgency. Much better to get checked out and find everything is ok then to find out later that you’ve ignored a symptom of something serious.

I had a follow up scan yesterday to the one I had after 20 weeks (measurement of right brain ventricle was measuring borderline high at 20 week scan, was measured as under at the follow up but asked back for reassurance). Again, thankfully babies brain looks fine! It was such an intense scan though and went on forever. She actually said as pushing down on my ribs “I’d rather have my whole rib cage broken than have an internal scan” which is what they said I might have to have if brain wasn’t entirely visible. So I am not keen to repeat the experience although I have been asked back at 35 weeks just for another follow up.

Right at the end she showed us a 4D close up of babies face. I have never wanted a 4D scan I find them a bit creepy but couldn’t believe it seeing the nose and eyes up close. I think it looks like me already 😂
I did wake up this morning really excited about baby though and I think it must of been seeing it on the screen.

The most disappointing thing was I’m pretty sure she gave the gender away! I won’t be revealing it here and my partner and I are also in denial and still proceeding as if we don’t know as I guess it hasn’t been confirmed by anyone 🙈

EsseKey · 29/10/2021 10:24

@sociallydistained glad to hear your baby looks fine!!

I am in the opposite position about the gender, I wanted to know and they told me at 16 wk (private scan), the sonographer was quite certain about my baby being a girl, but she also had to say that the sex seen at the ultrasound is never 100% sure! Then at the 20wk scan they couldn't tell, so I am here thinking about my baby girl, but I still have this doubt in the background that she might be a boy ahaha

so yeah, even if they gave away something, it's never 100% so you can keep this uncertainty with you until baby is born and have an actual surprise! :)

sociallydistained · 29/10/2021 14:45

That’s very true and how I’m choosing to look at
It! :)

Jonesy88 · 29/10/2021 21:20

@thecapitalsunited rennies are my go to! I’ve heard though love hearts are also meant to be effective but haven’t tried.

Is anyone on countdown to Mat leave but also a little bit freaked out by how fast it’s going? Just under 7 weeks left for me as I’ve been saving my annual leave. I don’t know if that was the right decision as I could do with a week off now tbh, but I figure if I’m tired now I’ll definitely be more tired in 7 weeks. Plus it’ll be nice to have Christmas completely off to get cosy and nest (and nap).

Trinacham · 29/10/2021 21:29

@Jonesy88 made me realise i've got 7-8 weeks left to go too! And before then I've got a couple more weeks booked annual leave. I'm taking the whole of January as annual leave (up until due date of 29th) as you say, bit freaked out by how fast it's whizzing by. So looking forward to having him but feel we need time to prepare.. and of course the birth is something I'm not overly looking forward to!

thecapitalsunited · 30/10/2021 14:09

I’m not planning to finish work until mid-January but I’ve got three weeks off over Christmas and two long weekends left so I’ve got 8 weeks left at work. It doesn’t sound anywhere near enough time to finish everything before I finish.

musicalgymball · 31/10/2021 21:58

I've booked from mid-Jan to get as much time off after the birth as possible, I have a WFH office job so I hope it will be ok. It depends how I feel come January. I have a scan at 36 weeks just before Christmas then more than a week off. I'm not sure I'll have the energy to go back after that!

@Trinacham @Jonesy88 @thecapitalsunited 7-8 weeks sounds dreamy, I am counting down the weeks!

BobbleWobble1 · 01/11/2021 18:38

Hello ladies. Hope everyone is doing ok. Sorry to those that have been told they have GD.

I feel you all on the insomnia. I've had it all the way through this time. Going through a better patch at the moment but I know there's worse to come in the final weeks. I don't get up to pee either. Just awake for no reason.

Will be 30 weeks on Wednesday and also counting down the weeks at work. 7 weeks left til I finish and one of those is annual leave. Had my growth scan last week and all was fine as expected. I just don't look nearly as pregnant as I actually am!

Kayl23 · 01/11/2021 20:19

Hi! Nice to see that everyone is doing okay (minus a few rubbish physical symptoms creeping in!). I haven't been too bad apart from the fact I'm getting a really uncomfortable back ache EVERY evening which is driving me mad. It's actually my upper back between my shoulder blades so I don't think it's actually my bump that's causing it, it seems to be a result of my boobs now resembling mountains rather than breasts!! Is anyone else having this issue?

Also looking for some reassurance, we're currently away on a mini break for my partners birthday and baby has been very quiet this afternoon. I've felt him but not much and no super strong kicks so it's got me worrying. Just trying to remind myself he isn't in a regular pattern yet and I have an anterior placenta so he's probably just moved position but it's so hard not to worry. I don't want to spoil the trip by worrying too much though!
