I’ve been feeling really tired and crap over the weekend. Slept more than I have in forever.
Baby is kicking like a mentalist at times mostly at night and first thing in the morning! Laying down seems to do it!

thecapitalsunited · 25/10/2021 08:55

I'm getting more of a pattern to my movements now that I'm starting to be able to feel them while standing up as well as sat down. Until Saturday I could only feel movements while sitting or lying down, as soon as I stood up they stopped.

I don't plan on using a kick counter app - I think they aren't advised in the UK as much as they were because they were both causing people to panic and giving people a false sense of security. I'm just going to keep an eye on our normal movement times because I know I'll give myself mega anxiety if I tried to track and baby's movements weren't spot on what they should be.

I've ordered my cot and changing table/dresser now. I was planning on buying from Ikea but I saw something I liked from Silver Cross which wasn't too much more and now it means that I don't have to worry about Ikea ever getting more cots in stock. The last big ticket item for me is the car seat. Planning on getting a Joie i-spin 360 as I don't drive a lot and wanted something that would get a bit of use before baby outgrew it.

spttc · 25/10/2021 09:24

Hi ladies, glad all is well. No definite movement pattern here either. I Havnt been looking for one though. It's pretty much all day though 😂 just consistent. We ordered our travel system - pram, carrycot & car seat on Saturday, also elvie breast pump, shnuggle bath & the tommee tippee anti colic complete feeding kit. So we will have all that next week. We did the personal shopping in mamas & papas, I'm sure they do that in the uk too? Highly recommend. We happened to get assigned a really lovely woman so maybe that helped but she was wonderful, it was like an antenatal class she was so informative and full of tips 💯 we painted the baby room yesterday, we are getting the wallpaper on one wall this week, then we will do the wardrobes etc so it's all coming together now!

Sounds like lots of nursery organisation going on! Must be lovely to see it all coming together.

I got my gestational diabetes results back and have it unfortunately. Making me think I need to get on with ordering the cot and essentials etc because they mentioned earlier inductions on my phone call. Luckily the diet plan looks okay - lots of lentils beans chickpeas eggs etc which I eat already as vegetarian. Just makes me think I won't be able to control it with diet alone tho, and might need the drugs or insulin. Anyone else had their results back?

Alle1991 · 25/10/2021 13:48

@Kayl23 I have a anterior placenta as well so some days I can feel strong movement and others not so much. It can be hard not to worry but if you feel like something isn’t right get on the phone to the hospital. Try a cold fizzy drink and lay down for half an hour.

Having the placenta at the front defo doesn’t help with the anxiety x

EsseKey · 25/10/2021 17:47

Hi all!
I have definitely noticed a change in my baby's movements in the last week or so...not the frequency, but the intensity of it is so much different! Also I notice how big she has become because sometimes I feel movements on completely opposite sides of my abdomen at the same time! To be honest I quite like feeling those kicks now!! 🥰
We have bought the crib last week, haven't settled yet for a pram/travel system as we really wanted to see and try a few of them at the baby show (they had a track with different surfaces and obstacles to test the prams 😅) but we didn't manage to go there last weekend because my partner had to work 😡
We will go to the baby and toddler show in manchester in a couple of weeks, but they won't have the test drive track 😔 (I know it's like talking about a car, but I am so into it now ahahah). I think that we will buy the main things after that weekend, I start to feel the pressure of having everything ready asap, even though there is still relatively a lot of time!!

Trinacham · 25/10/2021 18:06

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I have my glucose tolerance test on 2nd Nov 🙂

Oh no. I feel almost certain I will have it! I am planning a homebirth and refusing induction though and I hope to continue with my birth glad GD or not as I have looked into it.
Candyfloss22 · 25/10/2021 22:51

I've been feeling movements from 24 weeks and partner felt a kick at 25 weeks, it was lovely! I've noticed a pattern which is normally late evening. I didn't feel any movement one evening and I got sent to the hopsital, everything was fine and heartbeat was really strong which they where happy about!
We've had our nursery done since the beginning of September and had to order our travel system in early August otherwise we wouldn't get until after baby was born because of a back log of shipping things and the price of it as well. Hopefully we will get it in early December. We have everything apart from clothes and nappies, we are leaving those until last minute though.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/10/2021 07:34

@sociallydistained hopefully you won't have it! I don't think it's very common, only a small percent have it.
I would want to be induced just due to placenta (and possible baby size). My sister had it and had to be induced a month early, baby still weighed average for a full term baby 🙀

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/10/2021 07:37

@spttc we tried to do the personal shopping in John Lewis but everything was out of stock 😂 so we came home pretty empty handed. Have just ordered the Stokke birth to 10years cot bed and planning the Yoyo travel system. The Stokke can be pulled around the flat on little wheels, and looked so cute

tinydancingbean · 26/10/2021 07:44

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 another one of us with GD diagnosis here - found out last week. Sister had it in pregnancy so must be a family thing - her DC was term and normal size tho. So far good results from diet management - am finding also if i go for a walk after eating it really helps. Would like to avoid meds if i can as already on lots for other reasons. Will just have to stock up on favourite Christmas treats and have them in February!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/10/2021 08:36

@tinydancingbean thank you that's reassuring to hear about your sister. Yes we'll have to have lots of treats for after baby 😁 And also we can still have some yummy treat food like baked Camembert with crudités instead of delicious bread. It's not looking too awful the more I look into it, just a pain to be having to think about the levels and what I can't eat etc

spttc · 26/10/2021 08:49

That's crazy your travel system is taking so long @Candyfloss22 😱 I know there's serious stock issues over there in the uk tho, same with you @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 at John Lewis 😂🙈🙈 I'll have my travel system by this coming Friday so 6 days total wait time including a bank holiday weekend (it was a bank holiday here yesterday).

I Havnt had the GD test yet, not sure when I'm having it. I wouldn't be shocked if I did have it I can't say my diet has been perfect sugar content wise 😬🙈 I Havnt gained too much weight though which is good. Maybe I'll make a conscious effort this week to improve my diet! ✅

thecapitalsunited · 26/10/2021 09:55

I'm due my GTT on the 12th. I'm obese so more likely to develop it. I'm going to cry if I can't have my favourite snacks over Christmas. I've already got a tin of biscuits, After Eights and twiglets laid in! Fingers crossed that keeping up with exercise (my watch says I'm doing an average of 71 mins moderate or above exercise a day) and having kept my weight in check (just 1.4lbs on!) will help me avoid GD but from research I don't think there is a lot you can do to prevent GD as it's caused by hormone levels not by a poor diet.

spttc · 26/10/2021 10:18

@thecapitalsunited you can't completely get rid of the risk but a healthy diet and exercise does reduce your risk. My diet hasn't been great, not awful. Exercise has fallen off a cliff since I got pregnant 🙈 just gotta do what I can and hope for the best.

thecapitalsunited · 26/10/2021 10:26

@spttc You're right that exercise and diet help with insulin resistance but at the same time no one should be feeling guilty if they develop it because it does happen to perfectly healthy women. At least that's what I'll try and tell myself if I fail my glucose tolerance test!

spttc · 26/10/2021 11:05

@thecapitalsunited oh totally!! Definitely no need for guilt 💯 dressing mine now 😂🙈

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/10/2021 11:45

I'm at my diabetes clinic this morning and there's only one person who is larger here, the majority are lower bmi. So I don't think that has much effect honestly, and it comes down to how your hormones react. So you'll prob be fine! Few people get it x

Scottishgal85 · 26/10/2021 12:30

Hi all. Hope everyone is keeping well. I've definitely got a little wriggler, this boy is crazy active, most notably at night. We have been feeling him for a few weeks now (I'm 29 weeks tomorrow).

Does everyone get tested for GD? I had a growth scan yesterday where they took blood and I got my flu and whooping cough jags, but no one mentioned testing for GD. Not sure if it's only high risk people who are tested..?

expectinglittlebear · 26/10/2021 12:47

I haven't been contacted for GD either @Scottishgal85, I don't know if we are meant to or not. I will ask my midwife at my 28wk appointment if I don't hear anything beforehand.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yeh I don't think your weight has an affect right? Just your current diet.....eg if you eat a lot of sugar daily (like me at the moment 🙈)

spttc · 26/10/2021 13:33

@Scottishgal85 @expectinglittlebear nothing has been mentioned to me either. Maybe not everyone is tested? I'm next in on nov 9th so I'll see. I won't be volunteering 🤣🙈

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/10/2021 14:01

@spttc I don't know tbh! I don't eat much sugar, eat mostly whole grains and a little honey, and exercise daily. So did some of the others at the group. However my sister and some of my cousins have had it also - their diets have varied on the sugar front. People with PCOS and fat around abdomen more prone to get it also 🤷‍♀️ and there's a link of you have diabetes or gestational diabetes in the family is what they said today.

I thought everyone had the test at between 26 and 28 weeks, but maybe it varies from trust to trust. Yeah the test is not very pleasant! The drink was vile, and almost made me sick 😂
