Hi everyone, following up from our second thread here.

We’re just about through morning sickness and odd early pregnancy symptoms… what will the second trimester bring?

We are struggling with names 😬 I have two boys already & it took us until the bitter end to agree on DS2s name 🤣 I like short traditional names - we have a list so far but none that stand out. I fell in love with DS1s name & DDs name but not really finding that with any other boys names 😬 plenty of time left yet though!

Can anyone help. I’m a first time mum and need to have a scan on Friday, nothing is wrong about from Little one wouldn’t play ball at 20 week scan so need to re do some of it. As soon as I got the appointment I notified my general manager. Today someone else has come in saying they have a hospital appointment too on Friday so will be out the office all day. This person wants me to change my shift from a 9am start to a 7am start. It might not seem too much to ask but as I will be working until 8pm the night before it is a big thing and it’s only to suit their needs. I’ve read online that they can’t change your hours because of appointments or ask you to make up the missed time with maternity appointments, AIBU to say no?

Katy4321 · 20/07/2021 20:57

@lizlou85 not sure what the rules are, but that sounds very tough and is there someone else you can check with at work or maybe post this on main MN board. Hope all goes well with the scan.

Hope everyone is doing OK in this heat. I'm beginning to feel quite pregnant and bit daunting that there is still four months of getting bigger to go!

Katy4321 · 20/07/2021 21:01

@Hannah94L hope you are doing OK just saw your post saying they were very active at the scan, which sounds very good. Have you had any results yet?

Hannah94L · 20/07/2021 21:21

@Katy4321 we finally had the results yesterday. Baby has mild fluid on one side of the brain but no other brain abnormalities which means it’s isolated and outcome for babies with isolated cases is generally good.

There were also no other abnormalities found in all three of them so I think it’s best possible outcome we could of hoped for. Such a relief.

I’ve also felt my first proper kicks this week after a few weeks of flutters.

Lizlou85 · 20/07/2021 21:43

@katy4321 thank you. Spoke with a higher manager today and was told in no uncertain terms am I to change my hours and he’s had words with the person expecting me to change.

These last couple of days I’ve started to feel more pregnant, just keep telling myself I’ll be at my biggest in October and November and feeling sorry for people due August & September.

@Hannah94L glad it was the best possible outcome you could hope for. We had some worries around week 16 as they thought our little one had DS but after another scan and test our regional specialist centre said they didn’t see any strong indication on the scan. But it is such a worry. Glad you’ve felt the kicks. We’ve stopped playing baby or wind now as I’ve learnt the difference.

sparklyblue81 · 21/07/2021 11:16

@Hannah94L that sounds very positive 👍

Bloody glad I’m not having to labour in this heat. It was nearly at hot as this when my eldest was born at the end May & it was hideous 🥵 Weirdly the August my 2nd was born was cold & rainy so not too bad 😊 November is a much more sensible month for giving birth though 😍

Hannah94L · 21/07/2021 11:40

Just had another scan and the fluid on the brain has stayed stable over the last two weeks. They’ve said if it remains like that there’s only about 5% chance of any development issues in baby.

AlackAlasAlackaday · 21/07/2021 13:59

hannahl that’s really reassuring news. I was also wondering about you over the past week.

Absolutely melting here and have bought a neck fan. I look like a wally Grin

Hi everyone - hope you're all holding up in the heat. We went to have a cursory look at buggy's today. I had no idea there were so many to choose from. We are tall people so feel like the Uppababy or the silvercross wave is the way to go.

Has anyone any recommendations or 'no-go's' when it comes to choosing buggy's? What is your must have option on a buggy? Useful handbrake, easily foldable, large storage?

We have a very hungry bump at the moment. I'm 23 weeks and he wiggles when I'm hungry and does somersaults once I've eaten. At least I know I need a new mortgage to keep the fridge stocked when he grows up!

AlackAlasAlackaday · 26/07/2021 18:02

Gaaaw, roopers, that’s adorable! Mine respond well to Ben n Jerry’s here Grin.

My main advice with prams is a) consider buying 2nd hand, you can pick up a real bargain and b) think about your lifestyle - does it need to fit in a car boot? Will you need to lug it up/down stairs? Go offroad a lot (walks in woods/beach)? Go running a lot? Budget? Planning a 2nd child in quick succession (ie might make sense to get one that can become a tandem)? Do lots of shopping on foot (= lots of storage)?

OP posts:
Knock123 · 26/07/2021 18:35

We're going with Uppababy Vista 2, mostly because we are also tall people, it felt quite sturdy and it stands when folded so can be stuck in the cupboard under the stairs. We also want to use the bassinet on a stand for baby to sleep in downstairs during the day rather than buying a moses basket as well and that bassinet is actually safe for overnight sleeping (we're having a Snoo upstairs which will be too heavy to move up and down every day).
The other thing we like is that you can convert it to make it a double and we're hoping we will be lucky enough to have a second not too long after this one. It also has big wheels so good for all terrain. Final reason - I got quite bored looking at them and sat down while my partner fiddled and marched around with them all and that's the one he chose.

We will also probably buy a smaller run around when baby is a bit older as we live in London and want something lightweight for the tube and also to take on holiday (let's hope that's a thing next year!)

I was trying not to get sucked into buying everything new but MIL kindly said she'd pay for the pushchair and told us to get new as we would use it for more than one child but I do agree with @Alak that second hand is a good move! There's even companies you can send second hand pushchairs to for a deep clean and 'MOT'. Especially good if you're spending all your hard earned cash on food!! However if you've got the budget to splash out new, go for it

sparklyblue81 · 26/07/2021 19:37

@Hannah94L that sounds very reassuring- hopefully all is good then 😊

I have my travel system from my older ones so reusing that. It’s a cossatto mobi in red which I love and only cost me £150 second hand for DS1, & it’s still in great condition for no.4. The covers come off for washing which is very handy & the pram part has a Moses basket sized mattress so perfect for naps. It’s great for walking but a right palava to fold - you have to take it apart & it’s still bulky! It’s perfect for me as I don’t drive so it lives in the porch & we have a small fold up one for the car for when we go out as a family. Can’t remember what that is called but it lives in the car boot. So definitely try out how easy they are to put up & down & how much they weigh as once DC is older pushing a heavy pram up hills, etc is hard work 🙈 Adjustable handle height is a must for us too as DH is taller than me. I personally prefer one handle to push than two as you can push it one handed if you need to (holding toddlers hand to cross roads/ carrying awkward baby who decides half way home they won’t stop screaming unless you pick them up 🙈).

Knock123 · 05/08/2021 19:14

How is everyone doing? I'm 27 weeks now and my nausea seems to have returned. Not as bad as first trimester at the moment but has been getting worse all week, feeling very rough in the evenings which is the same as earlier in pregnancy. I'm feeling pretty miserable about it, is anyone else suffering?

ElmtreeMama · 05/08/2021 19:25

@Knock123 I'm 24+1 and been really nauseous these last few days
Also had a bleed yesterday and had to go in for a check, thankfully they said all is OK although bleeding is unexplained.
Just want her here now but happy to wait until she's bigger and stronger Smile

Lizlou85 · 05/08/2021 19:37

@knock123 and @ElmtressMama I’m 24+1 today and glad I’m not the only one have nausea. I’ve also been dizzy the last couple days so took today off work. I’ve reverted back to my 12 week staples of Ginger nuts and Lemonade to see if that helps. Had a 24 week check up yesterday and they are happy with baby but said to rest up.

Hope you feel better soon.

Knock123 · 05/08/2021 20:04

Argh so sorry you've both also been feeling rough but it is reassuring to know I'm not suffering alone! I'm wondering if it's a lot to do with being tired, I have got PGP and back ache and just not sleeping well at all at the moment.

@Lizlou85 oh no bless you, dizziness doesn't sound good, definitely sounds like you need to put your feet up. Glad baby is doing well.

@ElmtreeMama oh no how awful, so glad baby is all good and fingers crossed that's the last unexplained bleed you have. I'm with you, desperate for baby to be here but want it fully cooked first!

Hope you both feel better soon ❤️

JackJack84 · 05/08/2021 20:16

Sorry you're all feeling rough, it's no fun. I haven't had any more nausea thankfully but I'm on crutches with PGP. Had my glucose tolerance test today, hoping my levels were ok. Has anyone else been tested?

sparklyblue81 · 06/08/2021 07:03

Ah sorry you’re feeling rough ladies 😩 I’m ok most of the time but had a random really bad bout of car sickness last week (I suffered really badly with being car sick with DS2 but been fine since) and the dreaded indigestion has hit so I’m having to be careful not to eat too late in the evening or I can’t sleep for it 😭

I have my consultant appointment today to see if I have to do clexane injections daily from 28 weeks 😩 I hate injections so I’m hoping not 🤞

Knock123 · 06/08/2021 11:40

@JackJack84 you're on crutches?! Omg you poor thing, are you getting any physio? Thankfully my pgp is very mild and being managed with physio.

@sparklyblue81 oh yeah I have constant indigestion as well! Good luck with the consultant. I had Clexane injections up to 16 weeks, I had to get my partner to do the first few days but then did manage on my own after. The needle is really thin so it doesn't hurt but I found the injection did sting a bit, you have to try not to rub the skin as that can make it bruise. I only bruised twice as I was careful to grab a big chunky bit of flesh. It's better to just do it quickly! You can also put them in your thighs but I found that more painful, good to experiment and see what works for you. Hopefully you won't need them!

sparklyblue81 · 06/08/2021 12:03

Have got to have the injections from 28 weeks and for 6 weeks after the birth too 😩 hey ho, better than getting a blood clot! They’ve put me on extra monitoring too because of my age so growth scan at 28 weeks & go from there. Glad of the extra monitoring really, good to have the reassurance. Induction at 40 weeks too due to increased risk of still birth post due date with being “ancient” (40 🙈🤣). Don’t mind the induction too much as had to be induced with no 2 & 3 and they were both ok births after that, better than my first when I wasn’t induced anyway!! Makes planning childcare easier anyway at least 🤣 Although hopefully I will go naturally before then - I’ll be bouncing on my ball like a fiend & trying every trick going from 37 weeks 🤣

JackJack84 · 06/08/2021 12:18

@Knock123 yeah I've had a face to face appointment with the physio where she gave me the crutches & a tubigrip to wear. I can't seem to get away with the tubigrip though as it just rides up under my boobs 😂 I've got a pregnancy support belt which I'm using instead.

My trust also did a group physio session online where she gave us exercises so I've been doing them every day but I'm not seeing much difference. I've made a private appointment for some manual therapy as I know this is what the pelvic partnership recommends so hopefully that'll help!

Knock123 · 06/08/2021 14:42

@sparklyblue81 oh no but you're right, it's better than a clot and honestly once you get used to them it is fine!

@JackJack84 look at KT tape, you can get it from amazon and there's loads of videos on how to tape your bump, takes a bit of practice but I have found it better than a support. If you have sensitive skin it might irritate you a bit though. I love the NHS but my experience has been they are shit when it comes to physio so I always go private.
Having someone give your back a good rub and also really look at the problem one on one and create a specific plan tailored for your needs is well worth the money. Especially as there's still a few months to go!

Dinosaurus86 · 06/08/2021 15:59

Glad to see I'm not the only one whose nausea has returned @Knock123 @Lizlou85 @sparklyblue81 @ElmtreeMama. I thought I had been lucky and saw the back of it by the end of the first trimester! But the last couple of days I've had the weird ravenous-hunger-and-yet-nauseous-at-the-same-time feeling again. Hoping it will go soon! I'm 24+6 and I read weeks 23-27 are a major period of growth so maybe that's why several of us are noticing it.

Sorry to hear about the PGP @JackJack84. Have you had your GTT results? I have a few weeks to go before my test.

JackJack84 · 07/08/2021 06:54

@Knock123 thanks, I'll have a look at the KT tape. At this point I'll try anything 😂 My private appointment is on the 27th August which was the earliest I could get, really hoping they can help.

@Dinosaurus86 haven't had my results yet, they said they'd phone within 2 days & that was Thursday but I'm not sure if the hospital would ring on a Saturday. Hopefully no news is good news. Good luck with your test!
