We’re coming to the end of our last thread so here is, hopefully, the final instalment of our journeys. I’m going to compile a list of due dates and births from the last thread and I’ll post them below.

Hopefully we’ll have lots more baby announcements on the way! How is everyone doing?

@Fishingforhappiness If you don't like it, 100% don't register it and change it, your choice as much as your partners

AlRRRR · 12/06/2021 09:22

@Fishingforhappiness We went with a name from each part of the family ( used portuguse, chinese, english) it's double barrelled

Sitchervice · 12/06/2021 09:46

@AlRRRR very slowly. I think I'm in labour but I can't tell having never done this before. Have pessery got to wait till 5:30 for next steps.

AlRRRR · 12/06/2021 09:48

@Sitchervice Okay! Keep going strong! keep updating us x

Humpty11 · 12/06/2021 14:27

Our little lady arrived yesterday morning after a successful stretch and sweep on Thursday.
I hope you’re all getting on okay and there are some more babies on the horizon soon!

swiftt · 12/06/2021 14:54

I’ve had recurrent episodes of reduced movements throughout my pregnancy. Never been any cause for concern medically, but I had another episode and as I’m now at term, they’re recommending induction. Going in tomorrow to have balloon inserted!

@swiftt A balloon inserted??? What’s this???

AlRRRR · 12/06/2021 15:00

@Humpty11 congrats !!!! :)!

swiftt · 12/06/2021 15:03

@AlRRRR it’s some type of balloon catheter that helps to ripen and dilate your cervix! It’s what my trust use as their first option for induction, before they try the prostaglandin pessary or gel. It’s drug-free so should, if it works, lessen the chance of the contractions being too strong too quickly or needing further intervention as it’s a more natural way of induction, I guess. I can go home once it’s inserted and then if things progress normally, I can still birth on the midwife unit and have my birth plan. Obviously if things don’t progress then it’ll probably be labour ward and drugs but I’m glad I’ve got the option to try this first. Fingers crossed!

@swiftt Oh wow! Never knew this was a thing! wish you all the best with that! xx

ChasingARainbow · 12/06/2021 15:10

I've been in this morning with reduced movements too, going back tomorrow for an induction.

swiftt · 12/06/2021 15:18

@ChasingARainbow good luck tomorrow! Hopefully it won’t be long til we meet our babies.

@swiftt The balloon is the method my hospital uses too. If I don’t go by 41 weeks (two weeks tomorrow) I’ll have one inserted. How have you found it? Was it painful to have put in? I’m terrified of being induced, really want things to go naturally. I hate the thought of having my waters burst for me 😬

swiftt · 12/06/2021 21:15

@Normando91 I’m going back tomorrow morning to have it put in but I’ll update and let you know! I’m a bit nervous about it since they couldn’t even give me a sweep so hopefully they can get this in okay. I really wanted things to go naturally too but I’m happier with the option of the balloon and breaking waters in the first instance over going for the drugs. The balloon is supposed to be a more gentle form of induction so hopefully it works. You still have 2 weeks so I’m sure chances are that you’ll go spontaneously. Flowers

@swiftt Oh yes, please let me know how you get on. I hope it’s a smooth and quick process for you and your little one is here soon. Best of luck 💕

TerryRose · 13/06/2021 02:21

No updates from me, due date is tomorrow, Monday, can't see anything happening 🤣

Sitchervice · 13/06/2021 04:56

This has been the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I'm still waiting to have my waters broken. They sent my husband home so I've just been sat in pain crying my eyes out for hours alone. Paracetamol wares off pretty quickly. They keep offering me dihydrocodeine which caused me to have a weeks worth of the shits and end up in a drip due to dehydration last time I took it so I won't take it.

I'm so tired, I asked to go home but they wouldn't let me. I'm going to end up so depressed after this 😭 I just want to go home!!!

ChasingARainbow · 13/06/2021 05:28

@Sitchervice so sorry to hear what you're going through. Have they given you any idea when they will break your waters? Is there any other type of pain relief you can have?
Thinking of you x

Sitchervice · 13/06/2021 07:23

@ChasingARainbow no idea when they will break my waters. I just keep getting we are short staffed. If they were short staffed why did they bother inducing me!! Or why can't they transfer me to another hospital.

I did wonder out to get more pain killers and I was greated with a midwife on the phone who gave me an "Oh piss off" look. I'm sure she didn't mean it and was just busy but I just woddled back into my room.

PurpleishDahlia · 13/06/2021 07:41

Thinking of you @Sitchervice. When's your husband allowed back? Can you pick the best midwife and try to befriend her / open up to her? Do you have anything with you to distract yourself, tablet, headphones?

Sitchervice · 13/06/2021 08:05

@PurpleishDahlia he can come back in at 9. I have audio book and tablet and stuff. My back is so bad I can't really get comfortable. All my contractions are in my back.

Waitingforbabypage · 13/06/2021 08:17

@Sitchervice I really feel for you my love. You have to stay strong- but I'm saying that, it is completely normal to cry and shout and let your pain be known!

I went in for a growth scan on Monday, they said she hadn't grown and they needed to induce me, I had the pessary, started contracting Monday night, by Tuesday I was in so much pain I couldn't sit, stand, lay down. They checked me 9am Tuesday morning and there was no progress so they left me to it. Baring in mind for some reason our hospital wasn't allowing birthing partners in until you are considered in established labour so I was going through all this on my own. By 8pm I was in pieces, but constantly got told "we'll give you pethidine and see how you go" by midnight I lost my temper and told them something was wrong and they needed to help me. They finally checked me again and I was 6cm! I was taken to labour ward and called my other half to come in. Demanded an epidural which was a godsend.
Laboured through the night, after midwife changeover, my new one liked to do her own checks as well as going with what the previous midwife had done. Thank goodness she did! I told her baby had moved, she felt really up high and I was suddenly getting more pressure than usual in my bum, I reckon she's turned back to back...midwife checked and sure enough, baby had wriggled herself around. Typical.
She couldn't be found properly on the monitor so we had a clip put on her head and it showed decels and suddenly the room was filled with people and all hell broke loose.
I signed paperwork, hubs got in to scrubs and we were rushed to theatre. The plan was suction cup, if that didn't work then forceps and if that didn't work then c-sec.
thankfully the suction worked and my gorgeous 8lb 8.5oz girl was born.
Awful experience, but the best outcome.
Also, I am now completely in love with my anaesthetist. That man pumped me full of so many drugs it was amazing. Could have actually kissed him- and so could OH! He kept us nice and informed of what he was giving me, he checked in on OH which was really lovely of him.

Now on to the problem of why I've been put on fragmin for so long because no one seems to know.....but that's another story!

AlRRRR · 13/06/2021 14:51

@Sitchervice Oh gosh, I hope things have progressed for you and you have your partner there!

AlRRRR · 13/06/2021 14:52

@Waitingforbabypage was this a labour ward? They still have the policy of no partners eh?

Waitingforbabypage · 13/06/2021 15:23

No partners on the antenatal ward, they can be there once you're on the labour ward but then go again on the post natal ward.

The lady I was sharing a room with had a c-sec, and really struggled picking her baby up etc because the midwives just left her to it so I asked her if she wanted me to help her. Bloody glad I offered to be honest, hated hearing her struggle at the other side of the curtain.
