We’re coming to the end of our last thread so here is, hopefully, the final instalment of our journeys. I’m going to compile a list of due dates and births from the last thread and I’ll post them below.

Hopefully we’ll have lots more baby announcements on the way! How is everyone doing?

Hi all, it's looking like a planned section is the safest route to deliver my baby but keep reading online that it's not "encouraged by health care professionals". Just wondering if anyone knows why?? My consultant only highlighted risks of early induction with a big baby in my situation. She briefly covered risks of infection etc with c section but I can't seem to find online risks associated with baby of c section after 39 weeks. I feel like I'm missing something

Nesski · 16/06/2021 20:30

Congratulations ladies on your new arrivals, they really are all coming through Grin

@Firsttimeconcerns I think it's just the general preference in the UK for vaginal births as any issues with surgery means risk of litigation for the NHS! It's also cheaper to go vaginal, and then there's the recovery period for mum. That's my observation anyway. I don't think there is a risk to the baby, not that I've read at least

AnxiousAnnie86 · 16/06/2021 20:37

@Lovethatjourneyforme I was wondering this too! I have packed sleepsuits and vests into little sandwich bags with nappies so it's all in little packs to hand, but wondering if vests are actually needed!!! How hot are the wards? X

Firsttimeconcerns · 16/06/2021 20:51

@Nesski thank you. I wondered about recovery time but for a planned c section with no complications then it doesn't seem as long.

So lovely hearing people's birth stories 😊

Humpty11 · 16/06/2021 21:00

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!
I hope everyone else isn’t waiting too long 🤞🏼.
@Lovethatjourneyforme the labour ward was quite cool where I was so used a vest and babygrow and then two cellular blankets that they provided, also wore a little hat all the time too. Now we’re home and in a very warm house we’ve just been putting a babygrow on and cellular blanket at night.

PinkPlantCase · 16/06/2021 21:24

@Firsttimeconcerns I think c-section babies can be more likely to have some fluid on their lungs as it doesn’t get squashed out! I have no idea how common it is though it isn’t something you hear about happening very often. I only know about it because DH had it when he was born.

Normando91 · 16/06/2021 23:56

So I’ve been at the hospital in full blown labour since 2pm today. I was given a sweep at my midwife appointment and things just ramped up within less than an hour and I was 4cm dilated. It has not been fun, oh god it really hasn’t. But I’m now fully dilated and my baby boy is ready to be born. They’re giving him a chance to move down himself so I only need to do minimum pushing.

I can’t wait to meet him.

@swiftt Congratulations 💕💕💕

Humpty11 · 17/06/2021 00:03

Oh wow @Normando91, that sounds intense but so exciting that he’ll soon be here. You’re amazing! You can do this 💪🏼

AlRRRR · 17/06/2021 11:23

@Normando91 wow! I’m guessing you have your baby now then! ❤️❤️❤️

Normando91 · 17/06/2021 11:46

@AlRRRR, I sure do. Unfortunately it was a very traumatic experience in the end as I tried to push for 80 minutes before they realised he was in the wrong position. Baby started getting very distressed and I was beyond knackered. I was taken to theatre where I had a forcep delivery.

But it’s true what they say, you really do forget all the pain once they put your baby in your arms… well perhaps not the third degree tear and muscle tear in my bum I know have, that’s going to take a lot more to forget about over the coming days 😢

PinkPlantCase · 17/06/2021 11:48

Ladies who’s babies are here how did you spend the first few days post birth?

I never really know if rest means lying in bed and trying to sleep pretty much all the time or flopping on the sofa infront of the telly and still going up and down the stairs.

I know everyone’s experiences will be a bit different but just wondered. Right now I’m pretty achey in lots of different places so am enjoying time just in bed x

AlRRRR · 17/06/2021 11:53

@Normando91 Awww bless you ❤️❤️ That must have been hard… :( Sorry to hear you went through that! What position did get into? These tricky babies eh!! I hope you have a speedy recovery sweety

AlRRRR · 17/06/2021 11:54

@PinkPlantCase Rest rest rest (That’s what i did with my first)

Sat down, let my womb recover, fed and was brought food, for at least a week! x

TerryRose · 17/06/2021 12:52

Congrats on all the babies 😊

Anyone else gone over their due date ? I'm 3 days and feeling a bit fed up today even though I know I'm not long over but I would just feel better if I had baby out , can't help but worry

Scarftown · 17/06/2021 14:11

@TerryRose

I’m 4 days over. I’m getting impatient now and nervous about the idea of an induction if it goes on much longer. No signs of labour either here

Fishingforhappiness · 17/06/2021 14:13

Its lovely catching up on all the new births. CONGRATULATIONS all. So 2.5 weeks post csection and I feel back to "normal". My little screamer less so. Still in premature baby grows and slowly growing my tiny. My nipples are so very cracked and painful and I think I have oversupply as she often coughs coming off the boob. We are getting through like 16 nappies a day and she has constant hiccups. Anyone else struggling a little?

Nellle · 17/06/2021 15:14

@scarftown @terryrose

I'm 40+4 and trying to stay relaxed. I don't put much stock into due dates - mums and babies don't ping like microwaves! Remember that some countries give you a due week rather than a due date. And if we were in France, we're not "due" until 41 weeks, in Kenya it's 43.

That said, I'm also opening my mind to the possibility of induction now. It's not the birth I want, but it may be what I get. I think flexibility of how you envision your labour is helpful now that we're "over".

Lovethatjourneyforme · 17/06/2021 15:39

@Fishingforhappiness we vary every single day. Sometimes I feel like we're doing fine, others are much harder. Gotta say, I was absolutely unprepared for how hard breastfeeding is, emotionally, mentally and physically. And no one ever mentioned cluster feeding to me, which is totally ruling my life right now 😅
Are you getting extra support for the BF? Do you think she's latching okay or is it just nipple damage that's already done at this point?
And yes, our record was for 17 poops in a day! Calmed down to about 10 now thankfully.

Waitingforbabypage · 17/06/2021 18:39

Am I completely crazy for thinking we'll go for baby number 4 (child 5 overall) I'm about 3 years?? 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm just so loved up and Baby is a complete dream, and seeing OH with her just makes me melt and fancy him even more than I already did!! X

Fishingforhappiness · 17/06/2021 20:53

@Lovethatjourneyforme latch is a little shallow. She has a ridiculously small mouth, and is generally little and I now have very large boobs, which hasn't helped. I saw someone this afternoon, oversupply problems are causing her to clamp and make them so sore. Cluster feeding is so hard, and I think the heat really isn't helping. I clocked 13 feeds yesterday... we haven't got below 12 nappies on pur lowest day yet. It really is rinse and repeatedly! today I've ordered eye cream Grin..

Whywontitname · 17/06/2021 23:03

Jumping back in - my boy was born at 37 weeks 3 weeks ago now.

@Fishingforhappiness I’m on 20 feeds today (from midnight) it’s exhausting. He’s just not stopping it’s been really tough today there have been several tears, it’s hard when you can’t get any sleep because he’s constantly wanting you. How are you finding burping? He never seems to burp for me and it’s making me worried his tummy hurts

Lovethatjourneyforme · 18/06/2021 02:03

@Fishingforhappiness good that you've seen someone and I 100% feel for you, luckily it doesn't hurt me anymore but just the memory of it is enough to make my toes curl. Fingers crossed it lessens soon Flowers

@whywontitname 20 is really rough. I've had days where I've just been in tears as well, it's incredibly hard! Obviously a very personal choice but one of the things that's helped me is I've just stopped tracking it. I know she's feeding tons, I know she's going through enough nappies (and then some) and counting everything was just making me more stressed. I mentally note her last feed but that's about it. And burping I find fine if it's the sat on knee, hand under chin kind. Any other version just doesn't work. And that one only works now that I've got better at it.

Whywontitname · 18/06/2021 05:50

@Lovethatjourneyforme that’s good advice actually, I’m tracking it on the baby plus app but like you said I know he’s feeding enough now and the nappies are never ending plus he put on like 7 ounces from his birth weight at day 14 so I’m not worried he’s hungry etc. I can’t believe how hard it is, he fed pretty much straight from 4pm till 3am yesterday and just wouldn’t settle between its so draining especially if you’re tired already!

I think I’m lacking confidence with his burping I try the shoulder and sat up but he just seems to hate it and ends up head butting me or trying to eat my hand ha. Suppose it’s all a learning curve.

AlRRRR · 18/06/2021 08:03

@Nellle and @Scarftown I'm the same regarding due dates, In some countries, like you said their 'term' is as much as 43 weeks and the longer you leave it before inducing etc, the better, according to a lot of sources. Some countries even give a due date window rather than 1 actual date as that can cause stress, thinking you've gone 'over' :D As long as there no serious issues or concerns, baby will come as soon as it sends signals to the body that it's ready

PurpleishDahlia · 18/06/2021 09:26

Many congratulations to all new mums, lovely to hear healthy babies are arriving. Take care off yourselves 💕

@AIRRR 6 days till our due date! But yes I agree with you, the date only indicates a time window 2 weeks either side. I'm definitely not holding my breath as it's my first baby and statistically she'll arrive after that.
I was sent for a scan due to static growth between 36 weeks and now. Fortunately baby looked an appropriate size in the ultrasound, so trying not to overthink it. I'm quite short myself so maybe the little lady is taking after me.
I've been waking up at 4am lately, lying in bed wide awake for a couple of hours. I'm in Scotland and it never really gets dark this time of the year which doesn't help. I think my body is preparing me for the sleepless nights to follow.
Patiently waiting for my Maternity Allowance to kick in, it's been delayed.
I want to go to the hairdresser's and buy a new vacuum cleaner! Very excited for both 😛
I still go swimming 3 times a week, it feels amazing floating in there without any weight.
Anyone else having trouble sleeping lately?
