@rainfrog21, the range of normal is huge, and totally different from person to person. I've had regular / strong period cramps, tugging sensations, shooting pains in the fanny, all sorts. But never any boob pain, which is often symptom number 1 for others.

Once you're all hooked up with a midwife though, they are usually really good at helping you if you're worried, especially late on in the pregnancy.

rainfrog21 · 01/07/2021 15:31

@Shortmamashortcycles thank you! This is what I figured, no idea why all the regular websites insist on being so unhelpfully bland. Like they all say that only milky white cm is "the pregnancy cm" but even a casual scroll on mumsnet shows that's way off base!

rainfrog21 · 01/07/2021 15:32

Thank you @Shiftima - I'll try not to worry in that case - not bothered about pain so much so long as it's relatively normal :-)

Gummybear17 · 03/07/2021 17:19

Hi ladies . I am back . Had a MC in May and just got my BFP at 10DPO! X

Shiftima · 03/07/2021 19:12

Congrats @Gummybear17 here’s to a sticky bean for you x

MgW1 · 03/07/2021 19:24

@Gummybear17
Fingers crossed , so sorry to hear about the mc xx

Papillon33 · 05/07/2021 06:31

Hello ladies, can I please join? I'm 36, 13+1 with my second (I have a two year old).

I was about to join the @M4v3r1ck group on the Conception page a couple of months ago, then I got my bfp. It's so lovely to see familiar names from that group on here! I'm a really anxious person, so I've been waiting until it feels real before I join this group. I have my first scan this week (12 week scan, a little bit late)

@Noodella18 I've been having similar nausea this whole time too. I haven't actually been sick, it's just a general feeling all the time. I'm hoping it'll stop now that I'm 13 weeks 😬 insomnia is so unfair too!

I've told a few people about the pregnancy (my parents, brother and sister, and a couple of friends). Yesterday I saw my 8 year old niece (who doesn't know) and she hugged me round my waist, and looked up at me with a serious face and said "are you having another baby??" 😳 so I guess I'm starting to show now!

Anyway, wishing all of you the best with your pregnancies ❤

Hello and welcome @Papillon33 and welcome back @Gummybear17 - congrats both!

How's everyone getting on?

TigerRed · 09/07/2021 15:54
@TigerRed how have you found the pregnancy? I’m the same age as you and only 4+3 but really worried about being ‘elderly’ and pregnant. This will be my 4th DC
Hey hey! Everything crossed all is going well for all of you!

@Shiftima, I wonder if it’s better or worse when you already know what to expect!

This is our first - and I’d felt pretty well, all things considered - tiredness, nausea, sore boobs, ligament pain et al have been very much a thing - but no worse than I’d imagined, and seemingly no worse than friends who’ve been there younger. The lack of coffee has been a killer though 😉…

The hardest thing for me has been the waiting and the worrying about potential developmental problems TBH… particularly after our loss (MMC last time round - a pretty awful experience in the height of COVID).

The time went so slowly to 12 weeks - we found it glacial - but we eventually got there.

And once we saw the little one wriggling and all present and correct (and we got our combined test results through) it all got SO much better! Interestingly, despite all the propaganda we get about pregnancy at our ancient age eyeroll massively upping these odds substantially, mine came back reassuringly long - over 2K to 1 for DS, and much longer for everything else. I was really stressed about this, and considered the expensive private tests - glad we didn’t bother! My besty was exactly the same if that reassures anyone fretting.

Meanwhile, we went for our 20 week scan yesterday, and all was good!

So delighted - we can finally start to relax and believe that it’s really happening. He’s wriggled loads - made the sonographer really have to work! - and put on QUITE the show. We certainly couldn’t have missed his gender… 😂

On the way home, we bought his first little toy to celebrate 💖

Speaking of shopping, those of you who already have little ones - what are your must-buys! We’re a bit less-is-more when comes to shopping, so your ‘don’t bother’ purchase would be HUGELY appreciated too!

Shortmamashortcycles · 09/07/2021 16:01

@TigerRed, congrats!! So pleased all looks well for your little wriggler.

Re: purchases - don't buy lots of newborn clothes and encourage friends/family to buy 3-6 months or bigger. They grow so fast!

Lots of muslins is a good shout, esp if you plan to breastfeed, and also we loved the swaddles you can get that fasten with velcro - never quite got the hang of the long fabric ones.

We swore by our sleepyhead but maybe wait to see how he sleeps before shelling out. And if you want white noise, there's an app called Sound Sleeper which is amazing and much cheaper than the sheep thingy.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 11/07/2021 10:12

@TigerRed congratulations on the scan, that's lovely! I'll be listening for what not to buy too, first time here also, and we aren't into a lot of stuff so the less the better.

Missmcmonkeymcbean · 12/07/2021 16:13

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well.
Was just wondering for those that opted to have early scans done, what dates did you do them at? I'm currently 6+1 but have already overindulged with google self-scaremongering on statistics so was looking to book an early scan later this week but do you think it's better to wait until past the 7 weeks mark..?
Getting plenty of nausea (all day, every day) and just don't want to eat anything at the moment!

Applecrumble24 · 12/07/2021 19:10

I had one at 6+3 and saw the heartbeat and another at 9+3 which was amazing, so much better. Depends how desperate you are to see the heartbeat 🙂

MgW1 · 12/07/2021 19:23

@Applecrumble24
Hi did it resemble a baby? I had one at 6 and it looked like a bean. Got one on friday and il be 10 weeks so hoping I can see much more 🤞🏻x

Applecrumble24 · 13/07/2021 08:33

Yes, it was kicking it's legs and wriggling about all over the place!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/07/2021 10:42

@Missmcmonkeymcbean I had one at 7+1 and it's more of a blob, but wanted to check it was in the right place, measuring the right dates, and had a heartbeat. Eight weeks with a heartbeat brings the risk down to 2% apparently. I might go for another scan this week when I'll be 10.5

Bladette84 · 13/07/2021 10:53

Combined test results came back as 1 in 150 for DS which is a high chance. I’m definitely not having an amino but can’t decide whether to have NIPT or not. This bean is loved and wanted no matter what but I just don’t know whether to have the test or not

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/07/2021 11:29

@Bladette84 I'm really sorry you've had that news. I've heard that the nipt tests are a lot more accurate than the nhs one, and people that were high risk on the nhs one have been downgraded in risk a lot with the nipt.

I don't know what's best really, what're you leaning towards?

Noodella18 · 15/07/2021 12:25

Hi all! Just checking in. Had an early scan yesterday as part of the NIPT package and all was fine, 4 limbs, 1 head, a beating heart and most importantly no twin in there with it! Baby was moving its little arms around and looked vaguely baby shaped. Feeling relieved but also very nauseous and refluxy which is miserable. In case any of you try cyclizine, be aware that it can cause killer reflux, I had to stop taking it because the reflux was so bad.

@bladette84 sorry to hear your results. Please keep in mind that they are measuring a teeny tiny bit of the baby's neck and that the factor they multiply it by is based on age, so it's not necessarily super accurate. I am having a NIPT because I would not continue a pregnancy if it picked up on genetic abnormalities and NIPT is 100% accurate for DS (slightly less for the other conditions). If you would continue with it regardless, I suppose the question boils down to whether you would want to know either way before the baby was born. Personally I would, so that I could prepare myself and others so that baby's arrival was 100% joyful, rather than having to go through an adjustment period getting used to the situation. There are other markers which can give a hint at later scans, I think nasal bridge is one of them, but to be honest, if you're going to be looking for those markers you may as well do the NIPT and get a firm answer (provided you can afford it of course - shop around, Spire was £200 more than Imaginatal!)

Bladette84 · 15/07/2021 12:35

We’ve decided not to have any more screening. The fluid at the back of the neck and blood results were normal, it’s predominantly my age and bmi that are a factor. This little bean is from successful ivf and we wouldn’t terminate even if there was the potential of DS. We’ve waited so long and gone through so much more that this baby will be loved regardless. We’ve been offered a 16 week scan which we might take up. Other than that, I just don’t need to anxiety of waiting on yet more text results!

Noodella18 · 15/07/2021 12:41

@Bladette84 well that's great, good for you :) It's reassuring that it's mainly the age and bmi driving it and that the other factors are normal. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and congratulations for getting your sticky bean after such a difficult journey xx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/07/2021 13:05

@Bladette84 that sounds good, I'm glad all the other markers were okay!

@Noodella18 yay on the good scan, and just one baby! I had a scan today, also saw the baby kicking, would have quite liked another in there but just the one

Noodella18 · 20/07/2021 20:43

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ah great news about the scan, and sorry that there's no twin but you'll definitely have an easier ride with a singleton! How are you feeling generally? My morning sickness isn't great but my reflux has levelled off. Can't wait for it just to do one.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 21/07/2021 16:04

@Noodella18 was hoping for just the one pregnancy I think 😂 as opposed to the reality of twins. And I haven't even had it too bad! I'm good thanks, just feel a bit hungover almost, but have been lucky not to be too sick. Don't know how you've coped with the nausea, and hope it goes away for you v soon!

Catconfusion · 24/07/2021 11:16

Hey everyone, can I join? I briefly joined in May but had my second early loss since January. After that I had another early loss straight after. I then got a BFP on Monday at 8dpo so I’ll be 4 weeks tomorrow. It’s the furthest I’ve got since trying for baby number two. My ds is 15 months. I’m 42 years old so figure age might have caused the losses. We did have a mmc and another early loss before ds so I don’t know, it’s unexplained. All I know is that this time I started progesterone earlier at 3dpo and took baby aspirin throughout my cycle rather than just with a bfp. The last three losses all went wrong at about 12dpo and I didn’t get a strong positive. This time the tests are blazing and I’m feeling really sick so I’m taking that as a good sign. Anyway, looking forward to chatting with you all. Xx
