Hi all, hope ok to join, I'm 37 and very new to all this, not sure how you all manage to do the reply with usernames thing but some comments on the comments so far....!

Re drinking and hiding drinking - one thing that works is to say you are on a diet. That's true and these days seen as pretty normal. Or just say you've been getting two day hangovers these days and it's not worth it!

Re socialising - I'm only just over 4 weeks but feel like I've been hit by the tiredness truck, anyone else? Normally a night owl and work long hours but struggling to keep awake at desk after 7, supposed to be hosting a do on Sunday and not sure how I'm going to seem like my normal chatty self :-(

Re reassurance scans thanks for this info, I had a physically painful early mc followed by depressive episode first pg and feeling very anxious about this one. Thinking of booking a private scan now but booking anything feels dangerous - it was awful having to phone and cancel last time.

Re telling people - I found that when I had my mc the worst part was first having to tell Mum that I was pg before having to tell her the other bit. This time I've told her right away and it's a weight off my mind, just knowing I can talk to her about things that are worrying me and that she'll be ready to offer support is really making this pregnancy less anxious than the first one already. And she's able to make me giggle - mum quote was "well at least you both have your equipment in order and in use!"

Thanks for the welcome
Hoping to get an appointment with my previous consultant to see if we can get around the issues I’ve had in the past.
I still haven’t told the dad. No idea how to. I’ve written a letter, but I don’t know if I’ll have the guts to actually give it to him
Any tips on how to tell him would be great!

Shortmamashortcycles · 29/06/2021 20:47

@rainfrog21, I am both shattered and scatty - twice today I could have sworn I'd done something (sent an email, arranged a meeting) and apparently just imagined doing it. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

How did I keep it together the first time round? As much as it's nice not to be commuting, I think being in the office helped me keep my head in the game a bit more. 😬😬😬

rainfrog21 · 29/06/2021 22:57

@Shortmamashortcycles I'm planning to go back to office tomorrow to be honest, I've had the same feeling of floating around at home and now I'm paying for it up late drafting into the night, blrugh!!! Also it's a way to make myself walk - struggle when there's no purpose!

Missmcmonkeymcbean · 30/06/2021 08:53

Hi, please can I join this thread. I'm 39 and TTC #1. Got a BFP a couple of days ago and I'm now 4+3. Still a bit in shock as I thought it might take a while at my age but I think I got lucky as it was on cycle 3.
I've had a bit of cramping and a low level dull nausea but other than that not many symptoms.
I read through the thread this morning and was pleased to see I'm not alone now stressing about everything now that follows. I'm petrified it's not going to stick but there's not much I can do about that apart from wait and every day now seems to be lasting a lifetime!

Quick question - How much folic acid is everyone taking?

When I read 'It Starts With the Egg' I upped my folic acid from the 400ug in Pregnacare to an additional 400ug Active Folic making it 800ug each day. I stopped taking the CoQ10 I was taking but wondering if I should carry on with all the Folic? I was reading that whilst low amounts of Folic Acid are bad, too high amounts are also bad (about 1000ug).

Just wondering what everyone else is doing! (As google is the place where everything ends up making you worry).

Shortmamashortcycles · 30/06/2021 10:02

@Missmcmonkeymcbean, I realised the other day that my vit b complex (just the usual, from boots) has folic acid in as well as the separate folic acid in it. So... I'm prob double dosing! I was told that as I had Gestational diabetes in my prev pregnancy, I might be advised to up my folic acid intake but not been officially told that yet. So I'm just assuming all is ok!

All of which to say, I think as long as you're taking some sort of folic acid, you're prob fine.

P.s. if it helps you relax at all, after a very difficult time conceiving her first kid, my sister has a very simple conception, pregnancy and birth at 39 for her second. I hope it's as smooth for you!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 30/06/2021 10:08

@Missmcmonkeymcbean congrats! I was doing the ISWTE intermediate plan also. I dropped everything down on getting the positive test, and just switched to Zita West 1st trimester pills (has the more absorbable methyl folate in them). I asked somewhere on here what to keep taking, and just copied the others basically - was worried to take too much. I eat a lot of whole grains also so I probably get a fair amount of folic acid in my diet

rainfrog21 · 30/06/2021 12:58

Hi all just wanted to share in case anyone else found that they were feeling queasy elle TTC or now - combined vitamins like Pregnacare etc have that effect on lots of people, especially on empty stomach. NHS advises that Vit D and folic acid are sufficient unless you have a specific deficiency and I found that taking these separately means much smaller pills and no tummy upset and cheaper - sharing in case helpful. I also bought the folate rather than folic acid type. I take at night after dinner. Xx

Shortmamashortcycles · 30/06/2021 13:22

To add to rainfrog's excellent advice (I felt dreadful on the Pregnacare vits first time round), and for anyone who is constipated, Feroglobin iron tablets are way easier on your stomach and digestive system.

I take one with my folic acid and vit D after dinner and things are... okay. Still a bit queasy, but don't think the vits are the issue there!

Missmcmonkeymcbean · 30/06/2021 14:40

@Shortmamashortcycles @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 @rainfrog21 Thank you for all the info on supplements. I think I'll stick with just the Pregnacare and the additional Vit D and then try and up my natural folic acid intake via food. :)

TigerRed · 30/06/2021 17:10

Hello everyone, my first post! I gulp... just turned 40 last month, and coming up to 20 weeks on Friday (19wks + 4). First successful pregnancy follow a pretty awful time with a missed miscarriage last year.

We've been keeping the news very low-key, only a handful of people know until after we have our 20 week scan. Though after a reassurance/gender scan at 16+4 –and feeling the first flutters –we're beginning to really believe it!

Anyone else expecting late November babies?

How are you all feeling?

I'm quietly excited, though more than a little nervous with it... and already feeing like a rather cumbersome beached whale!

Bladette84 · 30/06/2021 19:00

Hey all, I’m 36 and 12 weeks with an sticky little IVF bean.
In all honesty, I’ve been having a really rough time with anxiety. I have a SCH (started bleeding at 6.5 weeks) which is finally looking like it’s resolving. I’ve had 3 scans already with my 12 week scan coming next week. I’m also experiencing a lot of hip pain (already dodgy thanks to running strain).
The anxiety is crippling me. My GP has referred me to perinatal mental health services. These next few days seem endless.

Shiftima · 30/06/2021 19:39

Hi @Bladette84 I’ve had SCH twice. They were really bad. My DC are happy and healthy now so try not to worry too much(easier said than done I know). How big did they say they are? Mine were massive

Shiftima · 30/06/2021 19:41

@TigerRed how have you found the pregnancy? I’m the same age as you and only 4+3 but really worried about being ‘elderly’ and pregnant. This will be my 4th DC

Bladette84 · 30/06/2021 20:37

@Shiftima they didn’t say how big it was as they knew my anxiety was already high. At second scan they told me it wasn’t near bean so didn’t have any concerns.

Shiftima · 30/06/2021 20:43

That’s good news then. Just rest as much as possible, no sex(the big O always triggered a bleed for me) no heavy lifting

CurlyNo2 · 30/06/2021 22:34

@Shortmamashortcycles

What Vit D do you take? I asked in chemist yesterday as they were all high strength and she said I could only get them from the GP? Is that right?
Shortmamashortcycles · 01/07/2021 06:39

I just take the max strength ones from Boots which is 75mcg. You can get lower dose ones, e.g. 10mcg, but I know my vit D is often low so figured take the highest one!

Bladette84 · 01/07/2021 08:14

@Shiftima I have zero sex drive anyway Grin

Shiftima · 01/07/2021 09:21

Haha you’ll be gone then!!

Shiftima · 01/07/2021 09:21

Fine, not gone!

rainfrog21 · 01/07/2021 11:51

Question for ladies who have previously had children - could you be kind enough to share your experiences of "normal" aches and pains? The online health info is so vague! If anyone could say what sort of area of the tummy they had pains and the type of pain it would be so reassuring for us newbies! I think I'm having "normal" cramping, so like 3/10 pain but it's a bit sharper than period pains and moves around the lower areas - for me it's less severe than PMS (but then I suffer from PMDD normally so in agony a week every month). Also, I didn't expect constant nausea so early... literally only 4+2! Thank you in advance to anyone who can help :-)

Shiftima · 01/07/2021 14:50

Hi @rainfrog21 this is no4 for me. Could be round ligament pain which is everything stretching and shifting ready for that little bean to bed in! The good news is, that measly 3/10 gets even bigger as the months go on and everyone gets bigger and more lively!
