Waters breaking stories

Currently 31 weeks pregnant with DC2 and I'm wanting to hear stories about how your waters broke🙈

I was started off with DD1 so never got to experience my waters going naturally as they were broken in the Labour ward. I'm excited for everything to go as natural as possible this time but I keep thinking about how and when my waters will go 🤣

Somone told me they mostly go at night time so if this is true I'll be home when it happens but does anyone else have any stories about how and when theirs went?

Thanks all 😁

Lying in bed at 37+6 and my pyjamas felt a bit damp. Put a sanitary towel on and lay back down, half an hour later I stood up and it gushed all over the floor. Went into hospital for a sweep. Sent back home. Went to another hospital to visit a relative and they went again on the floor! Luckily she was in a private room. They seemed to leak all day.
The following morning the midwife had to break my waters again whilst I was in labour, god knows where it had all come from.

helpmechoosewheretolive · 27/05/2021 16:43

Mine were broken by a midwife as my labour wasn't progressing after being induced. My main memory is the smell. My husband said it smelled like "the end of the world" Grin

bakingdemon · 27/05/2021 16:44

Mine didn't. Had to be broken for me when I was maaaannnny hours into labour.

NaToth · 27/05/2021 16:45

Mine were broken by midwives both times, when I was in transition. Two easy labours.

quietlyspoken08 · 27/05/2021 16:47

Mine went both times in bed. First time was early hours of the morning second time late at night. Definitely heard the pop sound both times and was unmistakeable. Currently 28 weeks (10 years later) and also having the fear they will go in public!

On my first and second baby, my waters both broke a few minutes before my babies were both born and on their own. I had my 3rd baby 13 days ago and I was in hospital after being induced. Led in bed on my side and I had this weird loud click come from stomach, I also felt it too. I was just led there thinking what an earth was that and in shock a little. About 20/30 seconds later I had the gush of waters which just did not stop. Don't know why but I didn't imagine feeling in my stomach first.

My waters broke at 2am when I was 38 + 5. I woke up feeling a bit wet and like more was coming, so I went to the loo and had a trickle. No pop, no gush - one midwife dismissed it as 'other loss' and sent me home. I went back when it carried on during the day and was told a trickle is normal and likely means my waters broke higher up

macshoto · 27/05/2021 17:44

Not mine (obviously), but one of the guests at my wedding had their waters break at the church midway through the service.

Stood at the front we had little idea what had happened, but realised there was a slight disturbance among the congregation.

Only found out after the signing of the registers what had happened!

MooChops89 · 27/05/2021 18:10

Mine very tidily went on the toilet Grin

I was induced the first time so they were broken for me.
Second time I was like you, left to it and no idea what would happen!
Started contracting about 8pm (but it had stopped and started a few times before), was restless all night, went for a wee about 2.30 and felt them go - not really a pop or a gush, I was just aware it was coming from my vagina and nowhere else! Unfortunately baby had passed thick meconium in them so it was a bit action stations then, but I was even more grateful they hadn't gone on the sofa or the mattress, I'd have had to bin it!

Snowpatrolling · 27/05/2021 18:39

Mine went in Asda down the cake isle!
Never got that cake! :(

georgarina · 27/05/2021 19:04

Water broke just before transition. It was like a balloon popped - it was a really sharp POP and water exploded everywhere. Lol

Kolo · 27/05/2021 19:17

I was desperate for my waters to break in John Lewis or Sainsbury's or something as I heard you got loads of free baby stuff 😂.

Alas I was induced - felt my waters break as I was walking crab-like up and down the stairs to help things move along after the pessary. Went back to birthing suite thing to proudly tell my midwife, only to discover is just pissed myself during a contraction.

4fingerKitKat · 27/05/2021 19:21

Mine went when I was driving the car back from John Lewis. Still gutted as if they’d gone about 15mins earlier I would have found out whether they really do give you a heap of free stuff if this happens!

As it was I just had to sit in a puddle in a traffic jam, then waddle back to my front door in soggy trousers.

Lovelydovey · 27/05/2021 19:27

Both times 2 weeks early sat on the bed early evening watching tv! Ruined two duvets.

Both times it was the first symptom of labour though I didn’t progress in the second and needed to be induced. Babies arrived 36 and 48 hours after they broke....

3JsMa · 27/05/2021 19:40

1st baby - huge gush in the hospital corridor,no proper contractions yet, baby born 3 hours later. Was told off by the midwife but don't blame her as the puddle was huge Grin
2nd baby - I gave birth in water so not sure
3rd baby-induction by breaking waters, constant trickle while in bed as was attached to CTG for first 30 min, baby born within 2 hours
4th- felt little pop,got up and only started leaking while going down the stairs, small but constant trickle for about 30 minutes, baby born within next hour

TwittleBee · 27/05/2021 19:45

DS1 - waters broke with an almighty gush all over DH's side of the bed at around 11pm, ended up labouring for 3 days, pushed for 6 hours and ended in forceps delivery (both had sepsis so long stay)

DS2 - waters went at around 11pm again, no labour this time but ended in EMCS 3 days later due to sepsis

DS3 - waters went again at around 11pm but no labour for a further 4 weeks, ended in EMCS due to sepsis

As a warning, if your waters break and you don't deliver straight way please please please ensure you treat thrush if you know you've had it or if you end up having a swab that comes back positive with it. Fungal infections, like thrush, can cause sepsis too

TwittleBee · 27/05/2021 19:47

Should have added DS2's waters went all over our sofa!

DS3's went all in my hospital bed on the antenatal ward, like a huge tsunami

TheGriffle · 27/05/2021 19:48

Dd1 I had contractions first so I’d been pottering about (it was the middle of the night) having a bath etc to ease the pain and walking around, getting in and out of bed and my waters went on the bedroom floor as I got out of bed.

Dd2 I felt them bulging as I was walking round Tesco’s and they went about half an hour after I’d got home just as we were in our way out to the park.
I was meant to be induced a couple of days later as my water volume was low so they didn’t go everywhere thankfully, just had to change my jeans! Went to the park and phoned the hospital to let them know and they asked us to come in, spent a couple of hours being monitored as my contractions didn’t start, sent home for the night and was induced the next day.
I had a second pop while in labour the next day which I assume was my hind waters but didn’t notice anything coming out (thanks low water volume!) I felt/heard the pop inside me though and the pain level ramped up straight away.

BigMoveHome · 27/05/2021 19:51

36 weeks pregnant and went to the loo for a pee at 2.00 am. Finished and «more pee» came out whilst still sat on the loo. That’s odd I thought - must be incontinence Grin

Stood up and there was a gush - big puddle in the middle of the bathroom floor.

Called ex h who came running barefoot and straight into the broken waters :)

Set off for hospital sat on a bin bag. Got to the hospital and water went again all over the hospital car park.

Was soaked to my knees!!!!

Baby was only born 36 hours later hmmmmm

Fun memories of that night in the bathroom

hiredandsqueak · 27/05/2021 19:56

I had polyhydraminos, my waters went spectacularly in my hallway as I stood laughing with my 16yo son and a bunch of his mates. I have never seen a bunch of lads move quite so quickly before, they were horrified.

Chanel05 · 27/05/2021 19:58

Mine went when I had been having contractions for 11 hours. I was sat on my bed, watching 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' (to get in the mood!), laying on a huge maternity puppy pad type thing and I felt a 'pop'. I knew instantly what the pop was, whipped the pad off the bed and stood on it, my waters gushing out. I ran to the toilet and called the labour ward but was in too much pain to speak. They said to my husband to call back in an hour or when I'd filled a pad but all the while the phone call was happening, I filled pad after pad after pad. Went to hospital then, soaking wet!

Melroses · 27/05/2021 20:03

1st all over the bed.
2nd broken by a doctor on instructions from the registrar who was in bed (and without my consent). He was sat on the bed and got soaked coz he was sat in it Grin.
3rd was second twin (from above) and by then the registrar had arrived had me in stirrups. Waters broke whilst pushing, quite spectacularly Halo

StevieNix · 27/05/2021 20:06

Mine went naturally at 38 weeks with my DS, me and DH had just moved house a week before, and we were trying to fix the tv aerial into the back of the tv. We were having a minor disagreement about it, DH was struggling and being very vocal about it, so I offered to help, as I crouched down to connect it I heard a pop (like a loud elastic band snapping) and there was a huge gush and my waters broke. It was completely painless and my contractions didn’t really start until 4 hours after.
The only annoying thing was I had a very patronising midwife at the hospital who despite me being 100% sure it was my waters that went, she tried to ‘explain’ to me that I was wrong, women’s waters don’t break like they do in the movies and that I probably just wet myself Hmm
I had to kick up a huge fuss (which is hard for me) and ask if they could actually swab to check that they had indeed broken (as obviously after a certain period of time after they break the risk of infection increases if you don’t go into labour) and of course I was bloody right. She was such a rude patronising bitch lol

DC1 I was running a bath and as I went to step into it, my waters started pouring down my leg. Felt like when you do a wee, but coming from somewhere else and unstoppable. Labour never started and I was induced a day or so later.

DC2. I was lying in bed and remember feeling so 'full' that it was unbearable, like an immense pressure. I turned on my side to get comfortable and just felt like I was going to pop. I wasnt quite at my due date yet and wasn't carrying that big. The next morning, I stood up to go to the bathroom and out the waters poured, just like last time! Again, labour didn't start and again I was induced a day or so later.

I had no other warning signs beforehand at all, with either.

Cannes12 · 27/05/2021 20:12

Just to say something I didn't know until my waters went and I continued to labour for 3 days..
Your waters never stop going until the baby is born so I had to wear huge pads/sit on towels and got drenched several times!
