2nd scan today and baby is catching up. Was 5 days behind on first visit, now 2 days behind. She says that's totally normal as depends on ovulation day etc etc. Good strong heartbeat and looking more baby like, little hands and feet clearly visible etc. I had the panorama NIPT blood test so that's been sent off the California & we will have it back in about 7-10 days. And we can find out the gender too 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍Booking appointment is on the 23rd. They made it for me automatically- honestly so far it's just been so smooth & stress free. Delighted with myself 😂😁

@spttc Awww that's such good news!!! So pleased for you xx

expectinglittlebear · 06/07/2021 14:34

Also @spttc was that a private scan / blood test or an NHS one?

EsseKey · 06/07/2021 14:44

@spttc so pleased to hear that everything is looking good!!!! I think you did a great choice with your antenatal clinic! so exciting that you will know the sex of the baby so soon!
I am counting down the days to the next scan, next Wednesday!

spttc · 06/07/2021 14:45

@expectinglittlebear I'm in Ireland so we don't have NHS. We have HSE....same thing really! But no I decided to go private. I'm glad I did. It means I only go to the hospital twice. Booking visit and birth, the other visits are in The Evie Clinic in Dublin. It's like a fancy hotel no waiting or queuing etc. Really Modern top of the range equipment etc. it's great for Covid as there's no crowds etc. They only have 2 patients in the clinic at a time. So 1 in waiting room, 1 being seen. So literally it's so relaxing. It's €3000 total. It includes a scan at every visit etc. I get a visit as often as I like but it's every 2 weeks before booking visit, then after booking visit until 20 weeks it's every 4 weeks. Then I think every 2-3 weeks depending on your pregnancy. Then obviously the birth & private room after birth if desired is covered by insurance. I see the same consultant and same midwife at every visit & got to choose the consultant aswell so...It's great. I'm honestly shocked how great it is If I'm honest 💯😂 Then my consultant refunds anything you have paid if you suffer a loss at any stage....which I think is very kind of her. I really like her. Iv paid nothing so far. I think I pay the first €1000 at booking visit. It's been so worth it so far. I need to calm down about it I think 😂

@EsseKey I know we can't wait to know! I feel once I know it's a boy/a girl I can start getting really excited & really bonding ❤️

Is everyone going to find out the gender or no?

OP posts:
EsseKey · 06/07/2021 14:57

@spttc I think that for that price it's totally worth it!!! well done!
Yes we are going to find out if it's a boy or a girl, I see it as one more step towards getting to know my baby, whoever he or she is!

I am also curious to experience the 3D/4D scan, and the right moment for that will be right around my birthday, so I know already what I am going to gift myself for the occasion ahahah

Jonesy88 · 06/07/2021 15:01

@spttc I’d totally pay that for that service!

Meanwhile I had the telephone portion of my booking on Saturday but I’m still waiting for the appointment that does bloods etc. Feels like it’s getting a bit late on not to have it scheduled tbh.

sociallydistained · 06/07/2021 15:10

Anyone else not finding out the sex of their baby? I think partner was shocked when I said I didn’t want to but I’ve always said if I had a child I would want to be surprised.

I thought I was going to have to employer #2 today as they are calling a meeting with me this week about my role (redundancy or loss of hours is on the cards). I decided it was best for me to blurt out I’m pregnant at the start but it seems it will be on Thursday now…

I just found out I may be entitled to 2x maternity pay because of my two jobs. I know it seems completely unfair that I could get double when other people in one full time role can only ever get 1. However, to me this could be the difference of a few extra months with my baby as baby was not expected and I currently live alone I have to sell up and move somewhere with my partner (his place and my place are not big enough) if I didn’t do this I couldn’t cover my mortgage. However I am on the brink of losing job 2 so it all feels very much an “if” situation. I have been at job 2 15 years and Job 1 (main employer now) 7 years.

spttc · 06/07/2021 15:25

@EsseKey yeh I feel the same ❤️ I feel like it's like meeting them sooner, knowing them longer almost. We had our first little look around Mamas & Papas on Saturday & it was all just so exciting but I found it hard not knowing which clothes too look at....and whether looking at frilly dresses was a waste of time 😂 I can't wait. I'll be happy either way! Cute you'll be getting the 3D scan around your birthday you can make a day of it, go for a nice lunch after. We've done that at both scans so far 😂 a ritual!

@Jonesy88 that's frustrating. Did you have a private early scan? Hopefully they arrange that ASAP for you! Not fair to leave you waiting. At least you've done the first bit.

@sociallydistained it's funny my brother & his wife are the same as you, they have 3 children and didn't find out on any of them. Whereas that would drive me mad 😂🙈 Everyone is different.

OP posts:
Jonesy88 · 06/07/2021 15:32

@spttc yes we’ve had a private scan, but I think there’s people out there that aren’t in a position to do that so it annoys me is it’s assumed (not by you btw I mean the midwives!) - anything could be going on in theory.

@sociallydistained we’re not finding out. We’ve always said if we bless to have 2 kids we wouldn’t with the first but would probably with the second to see if we needed different things.

I wouldn’t feel guilty about the extra SMP, I think it’s works that way for SSP too but flip side can impact the tax free allowance so you do what’s best for your family!

In other news, I had a next sale slot today and bought some baby bits. I know I’m not at 12 weeks so I’ve made a deal with myself I’ll only collect the parcels after that point. If anything were to go wrong they’d just return them to the depot and credit my account so I’m telling myself it’s allowed as it isn’t real buying. Grin

GoldenSun1 · 06/07/2021 15:46

@sociallydistained we might keep the sex a surprise. We've both spoken about the focus of the anomaly scan being the health of the baby but if the sonographer offers to tell us we can see how we feel right there and then. But if they can't tell I doubt we will have a private scan to find out, it will feel like fate is telling us to enjoy the surprise!

thecapitalsunited · 06/07/2021 15:49

@sociallydistained We’re not going to find out either. Well that’s the plan right now! I think DH was a little surprised but he’s happy with finding out when the baby is here.

Jonesy88 · 06/07/2021 15:57

Just to add although we’re not finding out I’m utterly convinced it’s a boy!

spttc · 06/07/2021 16:01

@Jonesy88 absolutely agree on the private scan. Honestly I think both the NHS & the HSE (here in Ireland) need to up their game on public maternity care. People shouldn't be left waiting. I know there are limits but it's an important area of medicine. My husband and I were saying this the other day. Here in Ireland (I don't know in the uk) but most drugs are subsidized by the government to make them affordable. There's a drug for severe pregnancy nausea....not subsidized..... €220 for 1 month supply (4 tablets a day). I think that's shocking!!! To think women would have to suffer simply as they cant afford it.

OP posts:
spttc · 06/07/2021 16:04

@Jonesy88 I was convinced mine is a boy until about week 8/9......now Iv changed my mind! 😂 my husband thinks it's a boy. There's no boy babies in my family so I think we are both thinking that as maybe it will be the first boy! Who knows time will tell. I'm happy either way

OP posts:
EsseKey · 06/07/2021 16:10

@spttc we were supposed to have a 'celebratory' dinner out after the 8wk scan but I had so much nausea in that period, that we had to postpone ahaha let's see how the next goes!

I know a few people who didn't want to know the sex of the baby, I honestly am so curious but everyone is different and as long as he/she is healthy, that's all what matters in the end :)

@Jonesy88 how far along are you? in my case after the telephone appointment I received the appointment for the blood & urine tests in a matter of hours, and the appointment for the scan just a couple of days later! I guess it has all been triggered almost automatically when the midwife recorded my information into the system. I hope it's the same for you...

thecapitalsunited · 06/07/2021 16:11

@Jonesy88 I’m convinced mine is a girl. DH says he doesn’t have a feeling either way and I’m crazy.

Jonesy88 · 06/07/2021 16:24

I’m 10 weeks. I think it’s a boy as for the first 8 weeks aside from a UTI and a missed period I was pretty much fine. The last couple of weeks I’ve felt a bit nauseous if I’ve not eaten or eaten too much but it’s very much manageable compared to other’s experiences.

My friends who had girls had pretty bad symptoms from day dot. Saying that though my mum didn’t even know she was pregnant until she was 5 months with me and I’m obviously a girl so it could be genetic.

spttc · 06/07/2021 16:30

@Jonesy88 oh yeh girls are meant to cause more nausea etc aren't they. Iv had very severe nausea. Maybe that's why I changed my mind. I do think it's a girl now. But obviously could be totally wrong like you said with your own mothers experience!

@thecapitalsunited have you had bad nausea? I wonder will we make it the whole 9 months on this thread so we can find out who has what gender! 😂

OP posts:
EsseKey · 06/07/2021 16:31

@Jonesy88 I had no idea there was this theory about boy/girl based on the symptoms! there are so many based on a lot of different things....
To be honest I really think the only reliable way to tell is with a scan or genetic testing...in the end is always a 50/50 chance :D

expectinglittlebear · 06/07/2021 16:33

I am convinced mine is a girl.. not sure why. A few of the people I have told seem to think its a girl too, with how sick I have been - an old wives tale I assume!

But then again, I was also convinced early on that it was twins and that turned out wrong haha! So I bet your bottom dollar it would be a little boy!

I would be absolutely over the moon with either, obviously!

thecapitalsunited · 06/07/2021 16:35

@spttc I haven’t really had much nausea just overwhelming tiredness. I haven’t read up on girl/boy specific symptoms - I’m guessing most are old wives tales. I just have this really strong feeling which is why DH thinks I’m crazy. I’ll be happy either way though.

Tangfastic91 · 06/07/2021 16:36

@spttc great news on your scan :)

I'm undecided about finding out gender. I always said I would because I'm super organized and like to feel prepared. It also really bugged me when friends didn't find out and I had to buy things in grey or wait until baby was born ha. Buuuuutt, now that I'm actually preggo I'm thinking it might give me that extra motivation in labor if I don't know. I think it's a boy based on symptom theory though, my mum was sooo sick with me so I figured I'd be the same it it was a girl, but I've only had bad nausea so far. I've known about 6 people have kids in the last couple years, people with nausea only had boys, people with sickness had girls, so make of that what you will!
