@Alle1991 that sounds horrible! I would guess it’s nothing to worry about it if just happened once and no heavy bleeding or anything. It crazy what our bodies are going through. Hope fully it doesn’t happen again , maybe it’ll it does and you’re concerned you could mention to your midwife or doctor for piece of mind x

ChelleV · 23/06/2021 13:36

@1sttimemumn I've had horrific cramps! I have vomited and gone light-headed from them. I know that having them to that extent isn't normal but they can't give a reason why it's happening either - been checked over with nothing obviously wrong, and my referral to EPAU showed a healthy little bean with a good heartbeat. Still scares me when it happens though!

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 13:38

@Tangfastic91 oh it’s mental the amount of information you have to give isn’t it!! Definitely makes. All feel more real. Oh I know the wee pot is definitely hot ideal haha 🤣

Had anyone thought about birth? She said at the appointment where did I want to have the baby etc I was like erm hospital? Is this a trick question lol… she tried to sway me towards a home birth. To be honest I havn’t even thought that far ahead at all yet!! X

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 13:41

@ChelleV completely feel for you!!! They’ve made me sick too. Sooo got dizzy etc don’t know what to do with myself. I’m in the same boat they aren’t too sure they said it was probably to do with hormones slowing digestion down etc. It’s a relief to hear someone else is experiencing this too!

It’s affecting day to day life. How many weeks are you? The passed 2/3 is the first time they have eased slightly I still have them but they don’t keep me up half the night and only have had them bad 1/2 times a day vs numerous times. I didn’t know what to do with myself when they were constant it’s exhausting. Have you found anything that helps? TMI but I did start staking lactulose the last couple of days in case it was to do with bowells (never had constipation in my life) I don’t know if this has helped slightly or if it’s coincidence I hope you’re ok feel for you so much!!! Xx

Sorry excuse my awful typos and grammar in that message!

sociallydistained · 23/06/2021 14:08

I missed my call from the midwife about booking appointment earlier. There was no way I could take it at work. Feeling so upset and annoyed now. No message left either. I just googled the number. Do I call back or will they try again does anyone know?

EsseKey · 23/06/2021 14:19

@1sttimemumn gosh I had the same reaction! First time I called the midwife, I literally had no idea what I had to say/ask, so I just called and said "hello...ermm, I got a positive pregnancy test and the GP told me to call this number?" - and their very first answer was "ok, where do you want to give birth?"
I mean, really?? don't you understand I have no idea what I am doing here, and why you think I know already where I want to give birth? XD
I can laugh about that now!
Also, from that first call I was a bit disappointed because I was expecting someone to at least tell me basic precautions such as don't smoke/don't do drugs/don't drink alcohol , but nothing! I mean, I know most people know that, but you can't give it for granted!

@sociallydistained I am sure they will try again, but if I were you I would just call them back - in this way you are also a bit more in control of the time when you have this booking appointment! :)

EsseKey · 23/06/2021 14:29

@1sttimemumn sorry, forgot to add about the giving birth bit: I prefer to be monitored and have immediate access to medical intervention if necessary, so I have told the midwife I want to give birth at the nearest NHS hospital (luckily they have good ratings for the maternity unit!). I think I would be less comfortable with a home birth, but honestly I have heard people that are completely the opposite or have mixed feelings about one or the other option...so it's so much down to personal preferences and circumstances! I would love to hear other people's ideas and opinions though :)

Tangfastic91 · 23/06/2021 14:37

@EsseKey my face must have looked a right picture when she said 'one option is to have a home birth' and I looked at her like she had 2 heads. I want hospital, doctors and more importantly drugs. Also, think of the carpets!! Grin

The only thing I do know is that I'd rather a c section than forceps if it came to it.

sociallydistained · 23/06/2021 14:41

tried to call back the number that called but it just told me who called and cut off. Tried googling but at a loss. I guess I wait for a call back. Very stressful. Theres going to be points where I cannot take a call, bit of a nightmare!

I have booked a private scan for Sunday because judging by my experience and some of yours so far with the NHS I don’t think I can wait until 14 weeks to know what is going on. I’ll be 9+3 I believe. Very nervous!

Tangfastic91 · 23/06/2021 14:41

P.s not that I'd think anyone else mad to have a home birth. Just not for me!!

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 15:05

@Tangfastic91@EsseKey oh I am the same hospital for me I would feel safer there but also understand why people have home births too. I was shocked they even ask you so early haha oh the carpets haha same I was thinking have you seen my big cream rug woman 😆 x

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 15:07

@sociallydistained how frustrating!! I didn’t do an online referral for mine I just contacted the doctors and they gave me an email address, I emailed and then they called me from there on her work phone. Hopefully you manage to take the call soon!

That’s exciting you have a scan booked, you’ll be fine! Hope it all goes well x

Jonesy88 · 23/06/2021 15:34

Hi all, so the doctor called back and said he’s arranged a scan at the EPU but it’s not until Saturday. It seems so far away but I suppose with the delay things will have resolved themselves one way or another by then really.

Spotting has lessened off tbf and today I would have been due on my period so who knows. The doctor said my symptoms don’t sound horrific but obviously they can’t be certain. He also said in honesty there’s nothing they can do but to be an inactive as possible is thought to help. So I’m sitting on the sofa with a blanket until Saturday!

ChelleV · 23/06/2021 15:36

@1sttimemumn I'm 9 weeks today, just about! I've been trying to have regular fibrous food through the day in case it's IBS, and avoiding triggering foods, but they still randomly happen - usually once or twice a week, then nothing for a week, then they're back.

It's odd to be pushed for home birth for your first! I am lucky enough to have a midwife-led birthing centre near me and that's what I would like - I want to go for a water birth if I can, but knowing it's attached to the hospital is reassuring too (although I want to avoid hospital at all costs because I just hate being in hospital, I'm autistic and it's too loud/bright for me!)

@Tangfastic91 I think I'm going to go for suction over forceps but the thought of forceps also just isn't going down well with me. I've read two books to try to educate myself (Expecting Better, and Give Birth Like A Feminist - which is about expressing your choice and getting good data, not hypnobirthing or anything like that) and it's really opened my eyes to a lot of things I didn't know before. I don't want pitocin because I've already got a history of severe mental illness and it's associated with postnatal depression so I think I'm going C section over that. I'm terrified I'll get there and they'll dismiss this all though!

ChelleV · 23/06/2021 15:37

@Jonesy88 I had to wait a week for my EPAU appt too Sad but the reassurance is SO worth it. Have they warned you it might be quite a long appointment? I was in there for almost two hours

Jonesy88 · 23/06/2021 15:44

@ChelleV - oh no! No they didn’t say anything about the appointment tbf. I have to pick up some paperwork tomorrow so maybe that might set expectations.

GoldenSun1 · 23/06/2021 15:46

@Jonesy88 I'll have my fingers crossed for you this week and hopefully you will get some reassurance on Saturday

spttc · 23/06/2021 16:24

Definitely hospital birth for me! My sister in law had her first in hospital and her next 2 at home. They use a birthing pool so the cream carpets are fine 😅🤣

I'm going for consultant led private care in Ireland. So I chose my consultant. A lovely female who has 3 children herself which actually gives her much more knowledge I think (similarly a lot of midwives are female) I think it's better than having a man who has never been through it telling you what to do. You can only learn so much from a book. So I'll only be at the maternity hospital twice...... 12 week appointment & birth. All other appointments are at The Evie Clinic in Dublin. I get a scan at every appointment - this baby will be well photographed 😂 I went yesterday for the first time....was fantastic! Like a fancy hotel. Really high tech equipment, lovely staff, no waiting. Delighted with myself 😍😂

Hi ladies, hope we are all well. Just a little reminder that we have a private Facebook group if anyone would like to join. Just let me know (private message is best) and I can send you the link xxx

EsseKey · 24/06/2021 09:00

@spttc that clinic sounds amazing! I gave a thought about getting private care too, then we talked and decided to remain with the NHS but go private for some specific things or if anything with the NHS doesn't sound right...
how often do you have your appointments? X

spttc · 24/06/2021 10:25

@EsseKey so I had my early scan on Tuesday, then I'm back in in 2 weeks for another scan & NIPT if I want it, then my booking appointment in the hospital, my consultant organizes that so I don't have to phone or email etc. Then it's every 3-4 weeks in the Evie Clinic - to a certain stage of pregnancy (I can't remember....20something weeks?), then every 2 weeks, then once a week until birth. It's great as the consultant does all my scans and all my appointments so it's the same person the entire pregnancy 👌 I'm so happy with it I never imagined it would be as nice as it is. They have Pilates, nutritionists etc aswell & a private Facebook group I'll have to join. Just really top notch.
