Hi ladies, I just found out I'm pregnant 4 weeks 1 day just seeing if there's any other newly pregnant who are as excited, terrified, elated, and shocked as I am 😂🤰🏻💕 Due Jan 30th 2022 🤞🤞🤞

Hi @spttc so glad that your early scan went well! It's so nice to see the little sausage with a heartbeat isn't it?
I will do the NHS screening, if it comes out to be higher risk we'll see. I guess that I would like to know for sure if any of these conditions will affect my baby, not that it will change anything. It's just for my own peace of mind I guess... I am trying not to think about it for now! :)

Hi @Penguin2021! I think you did right to try and get in contact with your GP/Midwife...I read from the NHS website that the early blood tests are better done before or around 10 weeks. Good luck!

how is everyone's nausea, for those affected? Mine was awful yesterday, today seems to be a bit better although I feel sooo sleepy. I'll try to go out for a walk or do some light exercise later, maybe that will wake me up :D

ChelleV · 22/06/2021 16:32

@spttc if it's the advanced blood test version, it's really unlikely to be that inaccurate. Your baby's DNA is in your blood, so they separate it and look for extra chromosomes. The higher risk is them saying everything is fine because they've not sourced enough of baby to be able to tell. The fetal fraction is the technical term for it, but I think that sounds awful. The further on you are, the more accurate it is, but by 12 weeks you usually have more than the minimum. In a meta-analysis of pregnant mothers, out of 5103, they had 5 false positives and 1 false negative. That's pretty accurate, nothing at all what that article is suggesting, but it very much depends on the specificity of the testing they use. I know that at my hospital, the tests increase with accuracy the higher the risk seems to be or if they're not happy with the sample quality.

The TL;DR:
If you want to know if it's worth getting the test, ask if you can find out if the lab looks at fetal fraction and only accept if they look at fetal fraction above 10% (which is very conservative as usually 4% can give you 99% accurate results).

Kayl23 · 22/06/2021 17:56

I'm planning on getting tested! Do they do the blood test for it at your booking in appointment? I have mine this Friday!

On a separate note, is anyone finding that they're becoming quite short of breath? Nothing drastic, but I'm definitely feeling it more when I walk up the stairs! I actually managed a gym session today too, well, half of a gym session because I gave up in the end due to being so out of breath after each set. That then made me start feeling really dizzy so thought it's best to leave it

EsseKey · 22/06/2021 18:17

@Kayl23 yep, out of breath if I just do the stairs a bit faster than my normal pregnant sloth-speed 😂
Well done for the gym session! Just showing up is already good! I managed to do 2 x 15 min sessions (1 upper body, 1 lower body) today, not much but it's better than nothing so I'm happy with that 😊

sociallydistained · 22/06/2021 18:58

I am (or was) very active and yet went for a visit to my usual local gardens today and there is a hill and I was chatting to a friend and found myself quite out of breath which hasn’t happened before 🤦🏻‍♀️

Tangfastic91 · 22/06/2021 19:31

@spttc so glad the scan went well!
@kayl23 yes totally get the breathlessness thing!

I would have been tempted by NIPT but the clinics are so far away, so will stick with the regular NHS screening unless something looks borderline.

thecapitalsunited · 22/06/2021 19:49

@spttc Glad your scan went well!

I’ve managed to do a few workouts this week. A short yoga session yesterday then a strength session today following along a video on my tv. My heart rate was through the roof and I was panting so I had to skip a few repetitions but I felt better for having done it. I have a high BMI (I’d lost 3.5 stone before falling pregnant so it was much worse) so I know I need to keep as active as possible as well as keeping an eye on my diet.

Penguin2021 · 22/06/2021 19:57

Thanks @EsseKey and @sociallydistained - sounds like Id better try 2 ring them again !

Im with you all on the breathlessness altho I’m not very fit anyway ! Hats off to those of you still working out Smile

Fraanne · 22/06/2021 20:05

@Kayl23 yes I’ve been feeling a bit breathless recently! I’m fairly fit and even walking up the stairs I was out of breath 🤣

I had an emergency gp appointment yesterday after morning (what a joke it’s all day) sickness got worse! I was struggling to eat meals or keep any water down and felt awful! So I have been given tablets to help and thank goodness they are working so I have actually eaten 3 meals for the first time in a week! How is everyone else with the sickness?!

ChelleV · 22/06/2021 22:00

@Kayl23 yes it's got something to do with progesterone making you need to breathe deeper! The crazy things I've googled... I've guess this is just life from now on though!

Kayl23 · 23/06/2021 07:33

I'm glad I'm not alone on the breathlessness thing haha seems as though a lot of us have it! I also read that it can be caused by increased progesterone although I'm not sure if it stays or will leave after the first trimester? Does anyone know?

I'm starting to feel a bit more excited and connected to it all following my post last week about not feeling much. I don't know if it's because my symptoms are increasing or because I'm getting further along but there's definitely been a shift over the last few days in regards to how I feel about the little prawn. I'm scared to feel anything more than I am now though incase something bad happens (ever the pessimist!!)

Akijas · 23/06/2021 08:37

hahahaja

Akijas · 23/06/2021 08:39

Hello all , Yesterday i was feeling pinching pain in left abdomen area and i am feeling heavy near abdomen area as well , is that normal , i am at 9 week and scan went good as well , please let me know , should i worry or not !

spttc · 23/06/2021 10:37

@ChelleV thanks for that input! I guess I'm just going to have to think about it. I didn't even know there was a non blood test one at this stage....

I got a prescription for my nausea too @Fraanne, Havnt filled it yet as Iv felt too ill 😂🤦🏻‍♀️🤮 I'm going to send my husband today.

I feel like I'm really having to chase the midwife to get this appointment. I should've had a call last Thursday, so the 17th. Instead I'm getting a call on the 28th - and only after I called and asked why nobody had called, and the midwife who picked up (one of two at our surgery) didn't even know I was on their list. I've had medical trauma caused by negligence in the past which is really making me anxious about that repeating, and it's not really in line with the "try not to get too stressed while pregnant" advice Hmm My request for the bloods they recommend having sooner rather than later was also scoffed away.

Also today my supervisor informed me there's a loophole which means I'm not going to get any maternity pay, and my partner's pay is expected to cover us both even though it's barely going to scape making even.

I also think my pregnancy hormones are making me emotional suddenly...

Jonesy88 · 23/06/2021 12:35

So today I’ve woken up to a bit of brown spotting bang on the 8 week mark. Wiped and gone but when I went for my second wee of the day it was back again. The midwife team havent contacted me yet so
I’m still with my gp. Just waiting on a callback from them for some reassurance/next steps.

EsseKey · 23/06/2021 12:48

oh @ChelleV I can feel your frustration! I am sure everything will be fine in the end, but all these problems happening right now don't help! XX

@Jonesy88 sorry to hear you are spotting! They say most of the times if it's just light spotting it's probably nothing to be worried about, but honestly I know how upsetting that can be so I would also push for some reassurance! keep us posted, keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything will be ok X

GoldenSun1 · 23/06/2021 12:49

I had that too @Jonesy88. Scared the crap out of me. It was slightly worse after a bowel movement but then stopped (sorry if tmi). I had a private scan the day after and all was well. I've heard different things from different midwives/sonographer at the clinic - old implantation bleeding, body just too used to getting a period or the mucus plug not having hardened yet. Everything seems okay now (touch wood) so I really hope it will be the same for you

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 12:59

Hi Everyone!

Hope you’re all ok?

Well done for managing to do a workout 🏋🏼‍♀️ any workout at this stage is good going so well bloody done! I’ve not managed to do anything I’ve felt so rough had full intentions of keeping up fitness too 😁

I just wondered if anyone has had bad cramps? Mine have actually passed a bit this week only bad 1/2 times a day vs numerous times in the day and the night (will be 9 weeks Thursday) but they’ve been excruciating! Make me feel like I could pass out etc. I got sent to a and e Monday (my worst nightmare lol) and had an early scan and everything was fine with the baby so that was a massive relief but I just wondered if anyone else has had anything similar? I have IBS so I think that’s made them worse but never felt pain like it!

Sorry for the waffle none of my friends that have had babies have experienced anything like this so just wondered if anyone else has xx

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 13:01

@Jonesy88 hope you are ok! I havnt personally experienced spotting but I know numerous friends have and it has been completely normal so fingers crossed for you. Definitely the right thing to get it checked out though x

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 13:03

@Kayl23 just caught up in the messages. I’ve also been breathless too I was saying this just the other day!

EsseKey · 23/06/2021 13:17

@1sttimemumn I haven't experienced anything like you describe... The occasional mild cramp, nothing too bad to be honest! But it's a relief to know that everything seems to be ok with the baby! 🥰 Sorry you have to suffer though 😥

Alle1991 · 23/06/2021 13:24

@1sttimemumn I’ve been getting the odd cramp or pains which come and go. Something that has worried me slightly is one night last week and yesterday i turned over in the sleep and got this really sharpe pain down my side. It lasted for a few minutes then went. It’s been playing on my mind about speaking to the doctor but then I don’t know if im just over thinking it.

Not booked my early scan yet as im still 50/50 about it

Tangfastic91 · 23/06/2021 13:25

@Jonesy88 hope its some normal harmless bleeding that means nothing. That's the most likely scenario.

Had my booking app this morning. Wow, the amount of information. Just starting to sink in that this may actually be happening now. Also question (and sorry if tmi) but how the hell are you meant to aim into a urine sample pot that has the diameter of a penny. Wtf!

1sttimemumn · 23/06/2021 13:33

@EsseKey thank you for coming back to me! It doesn’t seem very common to be honest I found a couple of old three ads in here where people have described the same, hopefully it passes at the magical 12 week mark 😁 exactly main thing is all was ok with the baby which was a relief! And I feel lucky in a way how that it meant I got that extra scan (silver linings) x
