Hi ladies, I just found out I'm pregnant 4 weeks 1 day just seeing if there's any other newly pregnant who are as excited, terrified, elated, and shocked as I am 😂🤰🏻💕 Due Jan 30th 2022 🤞🤞🤞

@OttilieKnackered so sorry to hear that, it must be scary! I know it's not easy, but I would not focus too much on the lack of symptoms, since they can come and go even in normal condition, and I would expect it to be even more variable when there is something else going on in your body!
I keep my fingers crossed that everything will be ok and the PCR test comes out negative! X

expectinglittlebear · 15/06/2021 09:20

Sorry to hear you are all feeling so rubbish girls Sad

I am in a constant state of tiredness at the moment, and the nausea is coming and going in waves, but ginger biscuits seem to have helped subside it! It is weird though, as I have been bloated and 'felt pregnant' for the past few weeks, but the past couple of days, my belly doesn't 'feel' pregnant anymore, if that makes sense. It is probably just the bloat finally calming down, and obviously not showing yet.. It has kind of got to me though haha, I enjoyed having a little 'bump'.. even if it was mostly just bloat!! Gets me excited for the future when bump does actually get bigger!

Also, side note, I love that so many of us are the same dates (7+2 today) Smile

OttilieKnackered · 15/06/2021 10:31

Thanks all. I’m feeling a little better now I’ve got up and showered and moved around. I keep wanting to take another test to check things are ok but I know even if the test was fine I would just worry about other things being wrong. Hoping the results come back today for the PCR. We are meant to be going away on Sunday! If it’s negative and we do go away I will book in for an early scan as soon as we’re back (Friday week).

Eugh. Sorry to be a downer everyone. I just want to get to a more relaxed stage I think!

EsseKey · 15/06/2021 11:21

@OttilieKnackered do not worry, this is the place to moan about anything, and I think that anyone here can relate :)
Are you talking about taking another pregnancy test or covid test?

I am sure that an early scan is the best way to be reassured about the progression of your pregnancy (at least in my experience!) and hopefully feel more relaxed. I would avoid doing further pregnancy tests unless you have them at home and want to use them, I know that seeing the line feels reassuring but it doesn't mean anything at this point (the result will be strongly positive even if baby is not doing well...been there!)

EsseKey · 15/06/2021 11:25

@expectinglittlebear I agree it's so nice to have company of people at exactly the same stage! It would be so nice to follow up for the entire pregnancy
I have never had ginger biscuits regularly in my cupboard, which type/brand are you having?I am looking for inspirations for nausea-management snacks to change a bit from my usual!

Tangfastic91 · 15/06/2021 11:46

Hi everyone, I can remember if I've joined this chat or have just been lurking in the shadows. 8 weeks today after 1 cycle of TTC #1. Keep thinking 'i don't feel pregnant' but then remember that hunger pangs have never made me feel so sick before. As I reach for emergency bread sticks because I can't wait the 10 mins until dinner is served. I'm eating every 2-3 hours just to quit the nausea, so I better be pregnant or something is wrong! Also had a Pfizer jab last week, so convinced I've maimed the little bean 🙈. Wow, noone IRL mentions the giant ball of anxiety you turn into when pregnant. Hope everyone is doing well in the heat, heat also not helping with nausea!

OttilieKnackered · 15/06/2021 12:58

@essekay I meant a pregnancy test! You’re absolutely right about them which is why I’m trying to avoid. I have two but I am trying to just ignore them.

I will have a scan in less than two weeks so then at least I will know it’s there and viable at that point.

I almost wish we didn’t find out so early nowadays in a way. I think it leads to a lot of over analysing and worrying.

EsseKey · 15/06/2021 13:15

@OttilieKnackered ah yes this is true, we find out about being pregnant early and start worrying about it. On the other hand, if you are TTC and don't know if you are pregnant or not, you are still worried because you don't know.
I think that we reached a point in life when the worries have started and will never end! (first TTC, then pregnancy, then baby health, etc etc...) - I think we will eventually find a way to deal with it :)

spttc · 15/06/2021 15:14

My morning sickness is OUT OF CONTROL. All day every day. Can't go to work as out of nowhere il have an hour long session of gagging over the loo. Nothing much comes out just violent wrenching! I read peppermint tea helps so Iv had some of that and I have a diffuser with peppermint oil in it now going. See if it helps 🙈😒🤦🏻‍♀️😭

spttc · 15/06/2021 15:19

@Tangfastic91 I wouldn't worry about the Pfizer jab I think it's great you got it!

I wanted to ask here I presume you are all in the uk....(I'm in Ireland), what's the recommendation there for Covid jabs during pregnancy? I know it's Pfizer & Moderna only but is there a particular gestation period they are recommending or just ASAP?

OP posts:
EsseKey · 15/06/2021 15:24

@spttc I spoke yesterday to the midwife, advice is for pregnant women to have both doses before the third trimester. Not sure about the reason though - as long as I get my vaccine (currently waiting for the 2nd dose!) :D

EsseKey · 15/06/2021 15:25

@spttc oh and sorry to hear about your sickness :( I hope the peppermint helps!

Tangfastic91 · 15/06/2021 15:27

@spttc the link I got from the midwife service was pretty much 'its up to you' and there has been no specific advice warning against having the jab when pregnant (so no restriction based on gestation). When I had the jab and they asked if I was pregnant, I just explained that I'd read all the info and was happy to proceed. The nurse agreed it was a good thing to do as recommended by royal college of obstetricians (I didn't fact check that one myself). She was then required to give me a VERY out of date (2020) leaflet that said don't have it, which was super helpful! But the guidance had been updated by then. Wouldnt have changed my decision anyway, in a very worst case scenario (which I hope doesn't happen) I am providing data for a registry to aid other pregnant women to make a decision about vaccination. Which can only be a good thing.

spttc · 15/06/2021 15:33

@Tangfastic91 @EsseKey did you both have your first dose while pregnant? Thanks for that info!

Please god the peppermint helps 🙈

OP posts:
Tangfastic91 · 15/06/2021 15:37

@spttc yep had it last week at 7 weeks. Second dose is booked when I'll be about 18 weeks

EsseKey · 15/06/2021 15:42

@spttc yep, actually I had the first dose the day after I found out!
I was a bit worried, but just because I had just found out so everything was causing me a bit of anxiety...but I had thought it through well before getting pregnant and decided that pregnant or not I wanted to have the vaccine. So i haven't hesitated and went for it

As Tangfastic says, guidance has changed since many pregnant women have been vaccinated and the safety data have been collected! The advice is to to offer the vaccine normally to pregnant women, it's safe and it will definitely outweigh the risk of getting COVID while pregnant.
Then obviously it is a personal decision!

Are you due to have your first dose soon? X

ChelleV · 15/06/2021 15:42

I had AstraZeneca, first dose ttc and the second last week (would've made it 7+3). Had to take a day off because I felt like death, but glad I did it, because a temperature can be really bad for baby's development so I feel like the extra protection is so worthwhile.

I so understand everyone struggling with exercise. I was training for an ultramarathon, now I can't do anything! I'm going to start swimming as soon as my NHS maternity exemption comes in (local uni offers it free for expectant mums!) and I've found some pregnancy-friendly exercise classes online that look like fun, so I might try those. I think strength in numbers but being at home still might help. Anyone welcome to join though!

Also I've found peppermint tea or mint in my drinking water has really helped settle my stomach a lot. That, and eating, but I can't keep doing that, I've already gained an ungodly amount (although if I'm honest with myself probably as much as I should've weighed, my body must love me treating it properly!)

expectinglittlebear · 15/06/2021 15:50

@EsseKey Just COOP own brand, they've been a life saver!

@Tangfastic91 Welcome lovely! I know what you mean about the ball of anxiety. Every little twinge or cramp I am terrified, always convinced I am going to go for a wee and see blood! I think I will finally be able to relax a bit more once I am at least well into my second trimester. This is my first so I am bricking it ha! I am with you with the hunger pangs too, if I don't eat breakfast within 5 minutes of waking up I feel terrible!!

@spttc Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time lovely, you've got this! xx

In regards to the COVID jab, I am still on the fence about it while pregnant. I am in the age bracket where I have just been called up for mine, but I know I definitely don't want it in the first trimester as development is so important. But I am on the fence about whether to get it in the second trimester (to protect me and baby, and I have heard the horror stories about how serious the risks are catching it in the third trimester) or to wait until baby is here and then get it.

It is such a hard decision to make. There are so many threads on here about it, and it is about 50/50 to whether people are going to get it while pregnant or not.

I am definitely swaying more towards getting it in the second trimester though - the thought of the increased risk of stillbirth or preterm birth terrifies me!

thecapitalsunited · 15/06/2021 16:00

@spttc I had my first AstraZeneca dose before I fell pregnant and my second at 5 weeks. The advice was that it was completely up to me and that some women might want to wait until 12 weeks just to be on the safe side but even that was personal choice. I decided that because I fall into the vulnerable group due to BMI that the risks of getting covid were higher than of something going wrong from the vaccine.

I think if I did miscarry then I would wonder about it especially since it took 3.5 years to get here and we had just resigned ourselves to a child free life when I realised that I might be pregnant and took a test.

I had my first bought of real nausea last night. Right after dinner rather bizarrely. Some peppermint tea seemed to sort it so I’m going to try to stick to that instead of digging into the emergency ginger nuts I bought in anticipation.

spttc · 15/06/2021 16:07

@EsseKey so here they say definitely get it while pregnant as the risk of getting Covid while pregnant is huge. But they are saying only after 14weeks. The reason I asked what they are saying there is because I don't feel the after 14weeks thing is based on anything apart from people being worried/blaming their miscarriage on the vaccine when it would have nothing to do with it! The USA are also administering Pfizer to pregnant people in the first trimester. I might see what they are doing in Europe. I just feel if I'm offered it here based on age before I hit 14weeks I'd be tempted to get it because I really don't think there's a reason not to and with the Indian strain the risk is higher than ever!

@expectinglittlebear it's absolutely a personal decision. I will definitely be getting it due to the risk of stillbirth. I feel the vaccines are safe. For me it's just down to when I choose to get it. I'm laying very low at the moment. My head is down the loo most of the day these days so no risk of Covid I suppose 😂 my husband is getting Pfizer tomorrow.

@ChelleV yeh I think the peppermint has helped! Even if it's just relaxing me once it's helping I don't care how! Yeh the constant eating isn't sustainable 🙈🤣 it helps me too but only WHILE eating, I can't eat all day, it's a slippery slope to morbid obesity 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

OP posts:
EsseKey · 15/06/2021 16:09

Yeah I understand how scary it can be to have the vaccination in pregnancy, I am always on the "get vaccinated" team but it's totally understandable why someone with different experience/background/fears would prefer not to have it for the time being. Totally personal decision indeed :)

@expectinglittlebear I am going on a mission for ginger biscuits now ahah

EsseKey · 15/06/2021 16:14

@spttc I 100% agree with you on the vaccine. I haven't hear anything here about specific timings in the gestation for getting the vaccine, as I said just the midwife told me that it is recommended to have both doses before 3rd trimester, but I don't know why and haven't looked it up (I will do that as I am a curious science geek ahah). I also think the 14 wk thing might be to avoid blaming of potential miscarriage on the vaccine (it is very easy to scare people when 1 small thing goes wrong even if there is no causal relationship)

oh and the constant eating...I am also kind of trying to avoid it otherwise I will be obese by the end of first trimester...but on the other hand it's the only thing that helps :( I really hope this phase doesn't last too long!

OttilieKnackered · 15/06/2021 17:28

My PCR test was negative! That’s a huge relief. Now I just need to actually FEEL better. My symptoms seem to be changing rather than actually improving.

Hopefully this is the beginning of an upward curve though!

spttc · 15/06/2021 17:31

@EsseKey yeh they say before 3rd trimester as in the studies they've done it seems more protection is obtained by the baby the earlier you get vaccinated. A friend of mine is a doctor and he said the only reason he could see for waiting until after 14weeks is if you had a bad reaction to the vaccine and a very high fever as a result. But he said that is easily managed by taking paracetamol before you have the vaccine and again that evening etc. I'm meeting my consultant next week and I'm going to ask. I'm sure she can't say to go against HSE guidelines on the record though 🙄 but I'll see by her reaction I think. I'll ask for the reasons WHY they are saying wait. I'm just curious aswell like yourself I like information 👌
