Just got two letters from the hospital changing my scan dates and they say you aren't allowed to take anyone with you. I've been allowed at the other scans so they must be reintroducing covid measures here

@Scarletpig1 oh that's surprising! Where are you located? Is it the 20 week scan? I have heard of some places not allowing partners into the additional scans so any scans you have other than the 12 and 20 week ones.

Has anyone else got a compressed upper leg nerve in pregnancy (meralgia paresthetica)? My outer right thigh is constantly switching between being numb and then sharp pain twinges 😬 after some googling it definitely seems to be a pregnancy thing due to the pressure on the abdomen. I'm having to take it easy and not sit for too long or walk for too long and do stretches. Thankfully it hasn't bothered me during the night yet!

Prams wise, I can't decided between the Oyster 3, iCandy lime and the Joie Versatrax. We just want something that folds with the chair attached, is fairly compact and not really heavy. We are mostly going to be walking on pavements and park paths so don't need one for all terrain. Such price differences between brands though and they all have pros and cons 😅 help! Feel free to throw in any other pram suggestions if you have any ladies.

Scarletpig1 · 24/08/2021 19:13

It's the 28 week growth scan and 34 week scan cos I was a c section last time. Maybe it's that then, I'll check my old appointment letters. NHS Grampian in Scotland. We're quite low in the covid table for Scotland I think last time I looked

2020mission · 24/08/2021 19:36

@Scarletpig1 ahh that will be it likely. It's a shame as surely if they can come into one with a mask you'd think they'd let them in then all as it's not like they are that often! I'm with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. I'm sure Grampian is no worse than here.

Flowersandrainbows2017 · 24/08/2021 20:30

Joyless is a good word for the sonographer!
Very different experience to our 12 week scan and also the scans with my first, where the sonographers were lovely, so caught us off guard.
She actually said we should only hope for a healthy baby! Clearly doesn’t agree with finding out the sex. But of course healthy is our main priority. Anyway, the private scan is on Friday 👍 so fingers crossed.

Flowersandrainbows2017 · 24/08/2021 20:35

@Scarletpig1 that’s harsh Sad hope they do let you bring someone.

@2020mission we have a Joie chrome pram currently-can’t fault it. I didn’t want to spend a fortune and it’s stood the test of time and easy to fold etc. I also like their ilevel car seat which lies flat and clips easily on to the pram frame 👍

If we go double buggy once we have 2, I’ll be looking at a Joie option again 😁

Scarletpig1 · 24/08/2021 22:25

Just checked the old letter for the 34 week one and no mention of having to go alone. In fact it says if anyone with you is noisy the sonographer may ask them to leave so seems like you were ballowed to take people before. They must have changed to rules now due to rising covid rates. Shame, my partner missed the 20 week one as he was working away

@2020mission don't know if you saw my post earlier but the mamas and papas ocarro folds with the seat on and it's not too heavy. They do good bundles too.

Any advice on must haves? Things that you ended up needing that you didn't think of. Or items that were life savers and you couldn't of lived without? A friend recommended a bumbo seat and white noise machine. Will I really need a baby nasal aspirator?
I ended up buying a 2nd hand egg pram as I loved using my nieces.

Sparklestars86 · 27/08/2021 11:58

I had to Google baby nasal aspirator! My sister just uses Spotify for the white noise through an echo dot (not sure how expensive the machines are?). Xx

Em39ma · 27/08/2021 13:15

I had to use the nasal aspirator quite a few times when dd was little. She was a c section baby and they can be quite congested. I have an electric Braun one. Don’t have a white noise machine, but dd is still in with us, until we hopefully move into our new house in a week or too ( had to completely redecorate it, was in quite a state) and I have spoken books on at night as I hate the quiet.

My must have items were nipple shields. I'd have stopped breastfeeding on day 5 if a Dr hadn't given them to me as I just couldn't get her to latch.

A Haakaa breast pump was also really handy, it doesn't use electricity or manual pumping - you just stick it on your breast and the milk comes out somehow. I used it in the very early days when I couldn't latch DD but she was hungry and I was engorged. It was also really useful when she had a sore throat and wouldn't feed so I could express off my milk and syringe feed her.

Never had a bumbo or white noise machine. We got a lot of use out of a swinging baby chair. Tbh I wouldn't worry too much, anything you need you can usually buy it pretty quickly. The only must have I'd say is some way to feed your baby that doesn't rely on them latching cause even if breastfeeding starts off going really well it can quickly not be going so well. I was so glad I'd got the Haakaa pump as we hadn't bought any formula as breastfeeding went great the first few days then suddenly on night 4 she wouldn't latch anymore and it was the middle of the night and all the shops were shut.

SouthwestSis · 27/08/2021 17:43

Oh @Scarletpig1I'm sad for you but not surprised. Covid rates are on the rise again across the whole of the UK and we havent even seen the impact of schools going back yet. Makes me nervous about how much access our partners will have for those of us due to deliver over winter.

Nasal aspirators have no evidence of any impact for the baby so deffo something you could do without, more plastic destined for landfil!

Em39ma · 30/08/2021 10:01

Is anyone else having trouble with cramp in there legs.
Last night I got it twice, one in one leg then both then both at the same time.
Definitely not short of salt, if anything have too much. Bananas make it worse, not sure what else I can do, to try and stop it.
Really need some sleep, between the cramp, having to wee every couple of hours and DH snoring, not getting much at all.

flowersatthecastle · 30/08/2021 13:46

@Em39ma yes!! Only at night and at about 2am Confused I'm scared to google... It's agony!

Pineapple87 · 30/08/2021 13:55

I have really restless legs that’s the only way I can describe it, it last about an hour before I fall asleep it’s not painful but extremely uncomfortable, is it normal?

2020mission · 30/08/2021 15:26

@Pineapple87 yeah I get restless legs in the evening it's not pain or anything just a horrible feeling that is only eased by getting up and walking around. Thankfully mines passes before bedtime and so doesn't disrupt my sleep. I have another leg issue too with a compressed nerve (meralgia paresthetica) in my right outer thigh that switches between itchy, pins and needles and sharp pain throughout the day 😬 at its worst with a long walk but again thankfully is fine when I'm sleeping. Other than that I feel fine though 😅

Hope everyone else is doing ok

Babycakes39 · 30/08/2021 15:57

Just found out I have gestational diabetes so I'm feeling a bit shocked and sorry for myself today! First two pregnancies were so easy and I had brilliant labours with no pain relief. Now I'm scared I'll be at risk of a c section or being 'interefered' with which I know stressed me out last time! I couldn't even bear to be examined to see how dilated I was as I couldn't bear to be touched. Gas and air made me feel sick and faint. Sorry I'm rambling! Just so much racing through my mind! 🙄

CityGirl182 · 30/08/2021 18:30

@Babycakes39 I was diagnosed with GD in my last pregnancy, awaiting a GTT for this pregnancy so we'll see if I have it again... It's a bit of mind bend but you do sort of get used to it. I'd recommend looking at "gestational diabetes UK" on Facebook, and Jo the founder also has a really really helpful website.

They don't always push for a c section, I was induced at 40 weeks as I was diet controlled and levels all stayed very stable. All inductions are different, but mine was so straightforward, and so much easier than my first pregnancy so it might not be too bad!

Em39ma · 30/08/2021 19:44

@flowersatthecastle mines be getting slowly worse over the last couple of weeks, up until last few nights have managed to stop it before it was full blown cramp. Not looking forward to sleeping tonight, know it will happen again, both calves have been sore all day.
I also have a hip problem which is bearable at the moment, but will mention to the midwife on Thursday, hopefully get physio like I did last time.

Babycakes39 · 30/08/2021 19:58

@CityGirl182 thank you! I already feel a bit calmer, think it was just the shock! Might explain why I'm so huge at 26 weeks! Fingers crossed you don't get it again XXX

CityGirl182 · 04/09/2021 08:25

@Babycakes39 I had my GTT and have been diagnosed with GD again Confused. I'm really surprised and have felt quite sorry for myself the last couple of days as I was fairly convinced I didn't have it as my home testing levels were normal.
Anyway, how's it going? Got your head around the diet? I don't like many of the useful things so pair foods with so end up eating cheese with almost everything, but it works and I do like cheese at least!

Babycakes39 · 04/09/2021 08:32

Oh @CityGirl182, so sorry to hear that. It really is taking the joy out of pregnancy for me which is so sad. I have. Een having an apple with peanut butter most days as a snack and that's nice! Oat cakes as a snack but they are boring! I did get some Nairn's low sugar biscuits yesterday at Lidl and they're lovely! Only had one but didn't affect my levels! I might go wild and have some cheese today! Forgot about that! 😅 Do you find you are suffering from extreme fatigue? I had to stay off work yesterday as I could barely get up the stairs! I think I will be starting my maternity leave a lot earlier than I had planned. Xxx

CityGirl182 · 04/09/2021 09:37

@Babycakes39 yes! The sugar hangover! I remember it wearing off after a bit and feeling better on the new diet, but there was an adjustment period. I'm planning to start mat leave at 37 weeks, but will play it by ear, if I'm feeling tired towards the end I might shift to 36 weeks.
Cheese is definitely sugar free so go for it :) I've been feeling really guilty for everything I eat in case it spikes levels but I think I'm getting into the groove again now

Em39ma · 04/09/2021 12:19

I’ve got gtt test in a couple weeks, but last time I reacted to the testing drink. Said I will test blood sugars with my machine and they said they weren’t sure about me doing it that way. Said I did last time and was ok.
Really back hip and pelvic pain now, midwife is sending off a referral for me to get physio, as soon as possible.
Had another chat about Covid jab and this midwife ( haven’t seen the same one twice yet) wasn’t keen on me having it at all. Getting such mixed signals, she just wants me to isolate until due date and said even if do eventually get the jab to still isolate. Boring life staying in all the time.

In the last 6 weeks I’ve knitted 6 cardies and a dress for dd. They will have too many for the chest of drawers soon.
