@chloed121 you lucky girl! This will be my first time going it looks amazing and can't wait. @Em39ma I will have a look at boots for that one. I haven't really had the chance to ask my midwife this kind of questions. I am 11 weeks 1 day today. My scan is next Friday, feeling really nervous hoping my baby is ok even though the radiation of the vq scan, I feel sick maybe once or twice a day lots of indigestion and tiredness. I started having a lot of anxiety about birth, I have been reading so much about it and the idea of possibly using forceps or assisted birth methods scare me so much I don't want to end up with a episotomy. I like a lot more the idea of a c section, please don't judge me on this one I know natural is best but I have been reading a lot about c sections and I would prefer this. Apparently I can ask for it to my midwife but I don't know how supportive they would be on that and it scares me to death that she says no.

My hay fever became insane yesterday, struggled to sleep because of it and woke up so bunged up struggling to breathe. I usually have prescription steroid nasal spray etc. I don't know how I'm going to cope, especially being a gardener...

climbershell · 09/06/2021 07:47

Also got stung by a bumble bee yesterday and it's gone pretty big and same issue regarding anti histamine damn

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/06/2021 08:33

@Hopesandsunshines Just so you know, you might not get to speak to a midwife next week either - I had my scan yesterday and my letter said I’d have a chat with the midwife afterwards so I went in loaded with questions; and didn’t see anyone to ask. Just scan, bloods; done.

But they also said that they don’t discuss labour until 16/20 weeks, and that fear of it is really normal. I was leaning C section for previous medical conditions but having read about the recovery being brutal, I’m leaning towards trying naturally but with a strict no forceps rule now... I think I’d prefer the potential pain beforehand with the reward of meeting baby and a better recovery over potentially an easier birth but a painful recovery afterwards... but I suspect they’re going to force the C section route. We’ve got plenty of time to think about it and it’s a personal choice, and absolutely normal to worry about it and change your mind a few times Flowers

I’m nervous about sunscreen. My GP said it isn’t U.K. guidance not to use chemical sunscreens and it’s to do with an ingredient largely used in the EU, and so they couldn’t advice on a mineral sunscreen but told me not to burn... but I feel weird about it, still.

Today I’m worrying about two random diabetes blood tests that I had. They didn’t tell me why, and I don’t have diabetes... Google says only the GD tests should be used during pregnancy for non-diabetics, and they are much later on. Confusing!

AnonymousXXIX · 09/06/2021 08:37

@climbershell I asked for pregnancy-safe anti-histamines at Boots this weekend and was given loratadine. I did ask my GP to call me about it today though, just to double-check it's ok.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/06/2021 09:19

@climbershell Can you not use the nasal spray? I was told categorically no tablet antihistamines but that nose sprays were okay if required.

I couldn’t survive without something; my hay fever is insane 🙈

Sparklestars86 · 09/06/2021 09:21

Does anyone have any natural remedies to help ease hayfever? I don't usually suffer and I wouldnt say I was having severe symptoms but I have a very runny nose and insanely itchy roof of my mouth- kept me awake last night! Xx

Sparklestars86 · 09/06/2021 09:27

@Hopesandsunshines did you see the comment further up about the childbirth webinar tonight? It's at 8pm. I've signed up. I'm like you and a section just seems way less scary. It's all I have direct experience of though as one sister had an emergency section with her first and then a very last minute elective on advice with her second due to a growth scan. My other sister had twins who ended up going to the backstop section date they put in place earlier in the pregnancy. Both seemed to have very straight forward recoveries. I've always thought section but trying to do as much research as possible. I'm also going to get the PBC Hypnobirthing programme. Xx

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/06/2021 09:36

@AnonymousXXIX Good to know the advice is consistent Grin

I'd kill for Loratadine, my hayfever kept me up for ages last night.

Elizabeth134 · 09/06/2021 10:01

Those hayfever sufferers have you tried having local honey regularly? I’ve been doing it for a couple of years now and my hayfever is so much better!

Had my scan this morning and all looked good. They had a brand new machine so even had a look at baby’s brain - which blew my mind at only 12 weeks, so detailed. Waiting on Harmony results and then the 20 week scan before we tell anyone but feels one step closer.

Sparklestars86 · 09/06/2021 10:57

@Elizabeth134 great idea with the honey. I'm going to do some searching locally. Lovely scan pic too! (Crazy that you can see the brain!!) Xx

Horehound · 09/06/2021 11:01

I think you have to be careful with honey as it can have bacteria in it!!

Sparklestars86 · 09/06/2021 11:02

@horehound oh really? Everything is such a minefield isn't it! Xx

Horehound · 09/06/2021 11:04

@Elizabeth134 nice scan! That's great you saw so much!!

Horehound · 09/06/2021 11:07

@Sparklestars86 I've just googled and it looks like the advice has changed so seems to be ok. Just not for a baby under 1yr old. :)

Sparklestars86 · 09/06/2021 11:42

Thank you! X

Cuddles21 · 09/06/2021 12:29

Hello everyone 😊
Had my scan this morning and measured 12+4 so due date got moved forward to 18th Dec. So amazing to see the baby moving about in there. It was my first scan and the only symptoms I've had so far is sore boobs and tiredness so delighted to know everything is OK!

Congratulations @Cuddles21! You are due the day before me Smile

Em39ma · 09/06/2021 15:36

@Hopesandsunshines i had a c section with dd. Was a really good experience and would recommend it. I’m asking for another this time around.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/06/2021 18:25

@Em39ma Did you have to stay in for long afterwards? I’m dreading that... I hate being in hospital 🙈

I’ve got an appointment about birth options in July, so I think they’re going to push for it for me.

TreeRoad · 09/06/2021 18:38

Got our gender scan booked for later this month when I’ll be 16+2. Things are reeeally accelerating now!

Is everyone else planning to find out what they’re having?

flowersatthecastle · 09/06/2021 18:39

@Hopesandsunshines I think the fear you have of assisted birth and episiotomy is completely normal. I was exactly the same before I gave birth last time. All through antenatal classes I couldn't deal with talk of it and was petrified. Ended up with episiotomy and forceps as baby's heart rate was unstable and he needed to arrive after a long labour. It wasn't pleasant but I would do it a thousand times over to have my baby. Recovery was fine. On reflection if I'd known that's how it was going to turn out I think I would have considered a section. I won't this time round as I'll have two to look after and not being able to do things with a toddler running around isn't an option. Have a think but you shouldn't be judged for opting for a section. And if you do have a natural birth and end up needing assistance because that's what's best for the baby, it'll all be worth it in the end.

TreeRoad · 09/06/2021 18:40

@Em39ma I’m not keen on getting a section (if at all possible - I know that decision might be taken out of my hands) because I’m worried about the recovery time.

This is my first baby so I have nothing to compare it to but I’ve read you can’t pick up your baby for a while afterwards. How was your experience with things like that?

Em39ma · 09/06/2021 18:46

@TakeYourFinalPosition only 2 days. I had been in a week before that as the tried to induce me. I have a lot of food allergies so was dreading it too. Mum had to bring my food in every day as they couldn’t deal with allergies. Was a pain, but I had a whole ward to myself before the c section and paid for a private room for after. DH stayed with me 24/7, which I’m not sure they are allowed to do now.
Pain wise I had hardly any, but I had felt so ill when pregnant, that once she was out I felt like I could do a gig.
