All good at the scan, measuring one day ahead at 12 weeks exactly. So cool to see baby turning around and kicking it's legs out!

Elm98 · 08/06/2021 05:55

@Kinsters happy to hear everything went well!
Sending best of luck to those who have their scans this week.

10 days to go for my 12 week scan and I’m just willing for time to go quicker Grin

Feeling awfully fatigued lately and the heartburn I’ve been getting is evil, I’ve been sipping gaviscon by the pint Grin

Horehound · 08/06/2021 08:25

Oh that's great @Kinsters it's so nice to see isn't it?
I'm so Intrigued now! What did you move there for? Are you from UK originally? What do you work as?

I loved Penang hill..loads to see and do! One night we went to restaurant Blanc...was fab!! Uft in so jealous you live there!!

HPmagic · 08/06/2021 09:40

Morning everyone, I have my scan and booking in appointment today, can't wait for it to be over with and I can relax a bit

1ce1cebaby · 08/06/2021 11:27

I’m intrigued about the screening results a lot of you have mentioned - are these bloods? Are they routinely done or only in some circumstances? The only bloods I had were the usual iron, blood type, HepB.
Just curious as lots of chat about them

Kinsters · 08/06/2021 11:29

Horehound yes I'm British, we moved for DH's work. I'm an accountant but I don't work here. It's such a nice place to live! It's a bit miserable with covid though, can't do much. I've actually never been up Penang hill 🙈

Good luck HPmagic

TakeYourFinalPosition · 08/06/2021 11:40

@1ce1cebaby Have you had your 12-week scan?

I had iron, blood type and major conditions at booking in. Then at your 12-week scan in the UK, you're offered screening bloods - where they test for Downs, Edwards, Pataus, etc. It's not compulsory but I believe a lot of people take them.

@Kinsters Glad everything went well!

1ce1cebaby · 08/06/2021 12:03

Hi @TakeYourFinalPosition. Yea I’ve had my scan - there was no offer of screening bloods for Downs etc. Just wondering if it’s a risk factor where you’re offered or depending on area- just on these boards it seems to be the norm.

1ce1cebaby · 08/06/2021 12:04

Should add I’m in Northern Ireland - our booking in is done at the 12 week scan appointment so we don’t speak to a midwife to between 11 and 14 weeks and do all at one appointment - which is why I’m wondering if it varies by region.

HPmagic · 08/06/2021 13:49

@1ce1cebaby I'm Northern Ireland also Smile

Just had my booking scan today and yes everything is done in one go here.

1ce1cebaby · 08/06/2021 13:58

@HPmagic - did you have screening bloods for Downs, Edwards etc like others have?

HPmagic · 08/06/2021 16:12

@1ce1cebaby no don't think that's routine unless there is risk factors.

Sparklestars86 · 08/06/2021 17:42

@hpmagic hope all went well at your scan. Xx

1ce1cebaby · 08/06/2021 17:56

@HPmagic funny how it differs here isn’t it?! I hope it went well for you anyway and all is good x

HPmagic · 08/06/2021 19:02

Thank you scan went well although was worried because woke up with spotting this morning. No apparent reason for it which was weird currently 11+4.

Hopesandsunshines · 08/06/2021 19:17

Very pleased to hear the scan went well @HPmagic.

Also, thankfully my exams went well and I don't have a blood clot just a bad cough, high heart rate and shortness of breath for no reason!

I am trying to find an spf that it is suitable during pregnancy, I have been reading we pregnant ladies should avoid chemical sunscreen but I am finding bit hard to get an affordable mineral sunscreen that won't leave a white cast! I love la Roche posay but if the ingredients would harm my baby I won't use it. Does anyone has more knowledge on this topic that can share please?

Scarletpig1 · 08/06/2021 19:20

What's in normal sunscreen we need to avoid? I've just been using normal

OP posts:
Theawkwardblonde · 08/06/2021 21:25

@Hopesandsunshines didn't realise we couldn't use normal sunscreen. I've been lathered in it the last 10 days 😳

Hopesandsunshines · 08/06/2021 21:35

@Theawkwardblonde sorry I did not mean to scare you, please don't take my word for advise. I have been researching about it but there is not any detail about the chemical sunscreen in the NHS website, the articles I've read are about certain ingredients that may cause problems but I am not entirely sure which is why I am asking if someone in our lovely group has more knowledge.

Horehound · 08/06/2021 21:37

Tbh I think making sure we don't get so much UV rays and burning is better for us than what any suncream will do

Theawkwardblonde · 08/06/2021 21:38

@Hopesandsunshines I've been doing a frantic google 🤣 I'm very fair so need to be covered in factor 50 with any hint of sun 🤣

Hopesandsunshines · 08/06/2021 21:43

I started researching this as I am going to Cornwall in a week.

For example this are a few of the articles I've read www.parents.com/news/using-chemical-sunscreen-during-pregnancy-may-cause-a-rare-birth-defect/

www.womenshealthmag.com/beauty/g26799309/best-sunscreen-for-pregnancy/

www.15minutebeauty.com/pregnancy-friendly-skincare-products.html#

Another thing that caused me concern is that I contacted la Roche posay explaining I am pregnant and was looking for a mineral sunscreen that was safe to use in pregnancy and this was their reply:
Hello Amy,
Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately all of the sunscreens available in our UK catalogue are chemical.

I would recommend signing up to our newsletter to be notified of the latest product releases and La Roche-Posay news.

I would also suggest taking a look at our sister website SkinCeuticals which has a few mineral sunscreens available:
www.skinceuticals.co.uk/en_GB/search?q=mineral&lang=&awc=15728_1615977582_897f2d4d792bf6ecb4042dd143db9ea7 A

In case they are out of stock you can also find them at our verified retailer on the following link:

www.feelunique.com/brands/skinceuticals?aff=rak&ranMID=44235&ranEAID=TnL5HPStwNw&ranSiteID=TnL5HPStwNw-W0bpGrDrFUv4OzXYfNkbLQ

I hope that helps,
Thanks,
Naville

Em39ma · 09/06/2021 06:47

I’m in Cornwall now and using boots soltan sun cream. Though missed a big chunk of one leg, which is now bright red and burnt.
I used it in my last pregnancy, midwife just said to use as normal, but we can burn easier in pregnancy. I explained not possible, I’m a red head and can burn in winter 😂

chloed121 · 09/06/2021 07:14

@Em39ma & @Hopesandsunshines Hope you both enjoy Cornwall! I'm lucky enough to live here ! 🥰

AnonymousXXIX · 09/06/2021 07:27

I bought an amazing natural sunscreen whilst travelling pre-pandemic and have never been so grateful for it! So scared of it running out though.
